My husband and I stopped into Jackson Street Tavern after a day downtown, and we were so happy at the discovery!
The whole ambiance was very homey and casual, with an exposed ceiling, wood panel walls, black and white photos, and industrial looking hanging lights.
The staff were also really kind and chill and gave great recommendations. And the laid-back/cool vibe also translated to the food. Very hearty, big portions, and super tasty!
We started with a Caesar Salad and the Poutine, and both were excellent. The Caesar was well dressed and large (we shared it), and the Poutine was also a big portion and had lots of toppings of a brown demi-glace gravy, cheese curds, and chives.
Our entrees were also amazing:
-My husband got the Jammin Salmon, which was a good size filet, topped with a jerk rub, pineapple mango salsa, and a side of jasmine rice - which sounds like a lot of different components, but all the flavors worked so well together!
-I got the Gnocchi Saltimbocca (I'm a huge Gnocchi fan), and this dish was AWESOME. Proschiutto wrapped pieces of chicken, delicious béchamel sauce, and of course the pillowy gnocchi. It reminded me of a fancy version of the Chicken and Gnocchi from Jimi D's. It was so simiar that I Googled and found out the two are related restaurants! Love it.
We were stuffed at this point, but had to top off our meal with something sweet, and we picked the Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding. We are both bread pudding fans, and this was one of the best we've had! Not too sweet in terms of the bread pudding portion, but topped with caramel, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream - so definitely a nice dessert, but not overly sweet!
If you're in the downtown area and looking for a nice local spot with great food at a nice price, give Jackson Street Tavern a try - you will definitely find something to fall in love with!
