The 13 Best Restaurants In Troy, New York - Troy - The Infatuation

"Jacob Alejandro is a chic little coffee shop near the waterfront that makes some inventive caffeinated beverages. A good example is the Uptown Chapina, made with single-origin Guatemalan espresso, pureed tropical fruits, and Guatemalan spice syrup, served over vanilla bean and citrus ice cubes and topped with an edible flower. They rotate through 20 of these specialty drinks every year, in addition to their regular menu, which has some exciting single-origin beans, mocha lattes made with the exceptional chocolate from local bean-to-bar spot Fruition, and strawberry milk cold brew. One of the best coffee spots in the Capital Region! The drinks here are not only delicious but also incredibly creative. I tried the strawberry milk cold brew and it was refreshing and beautifully presented. The baristas are friendly, and the space is modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed. You can tell that the owners put a lot of heart into every detail — from the coffee to the interior. Their pastries are also amazing — fresh, flavorful, and made in-house. Whether you’re grabbing a quick latte or sitting down to work or chat, this place is a gem in downtown Troy. Highly recommend!

Google
I ordered a vanilla latte and a scone. The latte tasted a bit different from the vanilla lattes I usually drink — sweeter, with a smooth honey-like flavor. The rich vanilla aroma blended perfectly with the coffee, making each sip delightful. The scone was crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside, with a deep buttery flavor that made it very satisfying. It paired perfectly with the latte.😘

Could easily be the name of cologne on sale in Macy's. But it's not. This was one of the best cappuccino I've ever had anywhere On Earth. Even California. The gentlemen who took my order was very professional. Bought some shades for 13.50 because I left mine at home. 5 stars.

Google
Place is great for coffee. I got regular filter coffee all black and it tastes just like how I wanted. A little bitter. Cappuccino is well made and beautiful. Too bad we don’t eat much pastry breakfast but they look great. We come here because the ambiance is well designed and the leather couch. Luckily we got here super early and the window seats are open. The town is so cute and quiet for a weekend getaway. I can tell the owners put a lot of thought into this place with little touches. There are a lot of tasteful green color. My maybe future cafe would totally have their vibe. Overall a great place for your first cup to just chill and relax.

Google
No visit to this town is complete without making it a stop. Without a doubt, this Troy coffee shop is my favorite. A true treasure is cold brew strawberry milk. Jacob Alejandro's ambiance, which radiates sophistication, is the ideal match for the experience. The space's meticulous attention to detail and lush green accents are my favorites. A vibe, that is all!

Google
This cafe offers more than coffee. It offers an indulgent experience that encourages you to slow down and linger in the elegant aesthetic of the cafe, and the rich, layered flavors and textures of the drinks. We sampled many offerings from the menu. The velvety vanilla citrus spice latte was comfort in a cup on a raw, blustery day. My family especially enjoyed the warm spices of the horchata latte, and the delicate sweetness of the saffron latte. And the creative cold brews offered bold and unexpected flavors. It’s no surprise then that the baristas are winning international competitions and acclaim.

Google
I e stopped in several times but in December went with friends to an evening (after normal hours) Geisha tasting event here… interesting experience learning about coffee roasters and sampling geisha style. Tiny but beautiful space, met people drawn to the location from more than an hour away which says something. Love the little window seat nook overlooking River Street. Every cup they put out is a work of art. Inclusive, friendly, have yet to try any of the pastries/smaller bite cafe food but looks yummy. Cute, clean bathroom with the best air freshening scent and I am never a fan of public restrooms.

Google
I’m a coffee addict, and I was genuinely excited about visiting this café, especially since they present themselves as a coffee specialty spot. Unfortunately, my expectations weren’t fully met. Although the café is equipped with professional machines and the baristas clearly know what they’re doing, the cappuccino I ordered wasn’t of the quality I had hoped for. The beans, as is often the case in the U.S., were over-roasted, and the milk foam lacked the firmness typical of a proper cappuccino. That said, compared to other cafés within many miles, this one is definitely among the better options. There was a line for coffee on Saturday, which speaks to its popularity. The atmosphere inside is pleasant, the staff is friendly, and they offer a selection of pastries.

Yelp
Jacob Alejandro truly goes above and beyond with their selection of coffee. As in, you've never truly tasted coffee until you have tried this place. It's hands down the best coffee I've ever had. My partner and I stopped in the morning after a wedding for a pick me up and were so pleasantly surprised. They have a beautiful interior, fast service, and delicious options sitting in their bakery case. We tried the cinnamon roll and it hit the spot! If you are a coffee lover, this place belongs on your list!

Yelp
My coworker told me to check out this coffee shop in Troy and I'm SO glad she did! I wanted a spot to get some work done while in town and Jacob Alejandro's vibes were perfect. I loved the dark and moody atmosphere and their playlist was on point - great background music for working that wasn't too loud. I love a good specialty drink, and I got so excited when I saw their cold brew with strawberry milk. This is basically the drink I had every morning while in Seoul, and their version was so good. The strawberry milk was so fresh and had chunks of actual strawberry. I even bought stuff to make it when I got home. The wifi was free and fast, and I spent a couple of hours working here. I didn't have anything to eat, but their pastry case was full of delicious looking treats. If I lived in the area, this would be my go-to coffee shop.

Sara F.

Yelp
12 dollars for a matcha is a little insane. The drink was good but definitely not worth 12 dollars. Their specialty drinks should have prices, puts customer in an uncomfortable position and is honestly just ridiculously priced.

Yelp
This is such a beautiful coffee shop. I really like the aesthetic in here, and I'm glad we finally stopped in this weekend. The baristas were courteous and quick. The prices are a bit steep so it's definitely a place to go for a special treat. I got the orange blossom pistachio iced latte ($8) and it was delicious. The other flavors sounded really good too, so I'll definitely return.

Yelp
I made a special trip to this coffee shop to try the strawberry milk cold brew. Enjoyed it so much that I have been trying to recreate it at home. The caprese sandwich was perfect travel lunch for my flight. Opening the package you could smell the fresh rosemary sprig that was on top of the focaccia. Everything was delicious! The lady sitting next to me said she was jealous and wanted one too.

Yelp
This was our first time here while visiting and it won't be our last! The vibes are classy and elegant. You feel like you're in a designer coffee shop. I had the peanut butter banana flambé, which I've never heard of such a thing. It was fantastic! Not overpowering with either flavor, and a great balance with the espresso. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Jacob Alejandro is truly an incredible coffee shop. The owners put an insane amount of attention into every little detail. From the decor to the menu, everything is carefully curated to ensure their customers have the best possible experience. I'm a HUGE fan of their specialty lattes. Their summer seasonal Blueberry Lime is my all time favorite as are the Blackberry Mary and Lucky You (St. Patrick's Day seasonal flavor.) Alejandro is an amazing barista who competes at coffee competitions around the world. His unique flavor combinations are like nothing you've ever tried and he's constantly pushing the boundaries to create something new. Even if one of the latte specials leaves you puzzled, trust me and try it. You'll fall in love! Their baked goods are also incredible and every day there's something new to try. Visit Jacob Alejandro and if there's a line, which there usually is, get in it and be ready to experience coffee like you never had before. The Capital Region is lucky to have Jacob Alejandro!

Yelp
This is a wonderful coffee shop. The coffee is amazing. The baked goods are spectacular. The decore and the service is out of this world. It feels like a welcoming city coffee shop. Just make sure your computer is charged. I couldn't find an outlet anywhere and my computer died about half way through my visit.

Yelp
I'm still obsessed with the snacks and homemade pastries that Jacob Alejandro has to offer, but lately, their coffee has been a bit disappointing. The last few times I've been, the coffee had a strange powdery texture, which wasn't the case before. It's a weird, grainy feel that I've never experienced with coffee before. Despite that, I still love everything else about Jacob Alejandro--the interiors are charming, the staff always seem genuine and sweet, and their food items are always yum.

Yelp
My coworker told me she always takes out of towners here, and I can see why. The coffee is phenomenal. I like cold brew but I've never had it with jam before. I went with the PBJ, which had strawberry preserves at the bottom of the cup along with peanut flavoring. The jelly made for a really interesting, cool texture and tasted very fresh. Coffee itself was well roasted. Had kind of a weird experience with the internet usage. The WiFi password is really long - it's posted on the wall, but looks like decor rather than an obvious WiFi sign. My guess is that they don't want people loitering for hours, which makes sense because it's a small space with limited seating. I had to get up and physically ask for the password again to connect my phone, and felt a bit like the barista (not the one who checked me out) was giving me the third degree to make sure I had actually ordered something. Not docking a star because the coffee is still phenomenal. I came back the next day for the farmer's market and got a hibiscus cream concha and more cold brew. If you're in the Albany area, get your caffeine fix here!

Yelp
Best coffee I've had in the area. Classy shop in downtown Troy, really very nice staff. I really suggest this place but seating gets tight and it gets pretty busy.

Yelp
Excellent choices for elaborate Coffee options. The three of us all had different selections and they all were excellent. The baristas were very helpful in assisting us with our choices. The have some very unique coffee concoctions. So happy our daughter recommended this place.

Yelp
I have been a loyal customer of JA since they opened in Troy and wash thrilled when the Albany location opened up. However, in the last few weeks they have switched to a homemade oatmilk that is absolutely terrible, making that almost $8 iced latte pretty regrettable. The first time I tried it in an iced vanilla citrus latte, I had to go back to the counter and ask for it to be remade with regular milk bc it was just not good. The employee was nice enough to remake the latte but was clearly annoyed at the request. I went back last week and was reassured the home made oatmilk phase is done, and thankfully I can confirm my latte was back to its delicious self! Unfortunately, today I came to the Troy location and asked to make sure the oatmilk situation was back to normal before I ordered a black sesame rosemary latte. I was assured the homemade version was not being used. Upon my first sip I knew instantly that either that was a lie or they are using some other type of oatmilk. I was expecting a creamy, filling sip but instead was met with a thin, watery milk that leaves a sour aftertaste. Very similar to that homemade oatmilk I've tried before. It's almost the consistency of a cold brew. Not to mention the black sesame flavor was nowhere to be found. I love JA and hate to feel that I'm overspending on what is supposed to be good coffee. I hope to come back and be met with the coffee standard it has previously set.

Yelp
This places gives "holy shit, I can't believe I'm in upstate NY right now". JA reminds me of my favorite coffee shop in Mexico City. The branding is impeccable- I love the green colors- and the lattes and treats are to die for. I love this place so much I recently got a soft sweatshirt from them, with the gold detailing. Troy is so lucky to have this spot!!

Yelp
This coffee shop could easily be transplanted to a big city and hold its own for the quality of the coffee drinks and style. My mom is a pumpkin spice latte kinda person and she was forewarned not to expect the faux pumpkin sugar filled drink from the chain coffee places with questionable coffee... she liked her drink but didn't love it. My BF is the serious coffee connoisseur who declared his latte an A+ My rosemary (and something else but forgot what) was so unique and special, as we passed my cup around the table everyone agreed it was THE BEST. I should add that I ordered it 'as is' and when it arrived it was far too sweet for my tastes and the barista told me to request less sweet next time. Then she must have decided, why not and she remade my drink with less sweetener. Whenever I am in town, this will be my preferred coffee shop. Note: like most places in Troy the access is challenging for people with walkers or strollers.

Yelp
This place serves pour over coffee and the barista is highly skilled. Pastries were good as well. Solid coffee shop!!

Yelp
Damnnnn talk about level up! It's like I'm in the city or BK -chic colors, furniture, brass lighting, cute dish-ware, nice presentation! Lots of unique creative drinks, lattes, scones and desserts! I got pear lavender latte and rosé pistachio tart both bold flavorful delish! Service was wonderful by the longer hair person and the shorter haired individuals were okay lol. Of course Alejandro was as cool and friendly as usual just like when I saw him working at various cafes before! Congrats again Jacob Alejandro and glad you're in the Cap Region --which is much needed!

Yelp
We love going to Jacob Alejandro! We normally go to their outdoor stand during the farmers market, but this week we went inside their shop. The shop has more options than the stand out front, but both have a good variety! The strawberry milk cold brew is my normal go to coffee, but this week I got their matcha paradise. The strawberries in the matcha are fresh. The service was quick, everyone who worked behind the counter were very friendly. Highly recommend trying if you haven't yet, their coffee is one of the best in the area!

Hailey H.

Yelp
Amazing coffee & lattes. Super cute gem! Really friendly staff too! highly recommend the cream brûlée latte
google avatar

Kristin K.

Yelp
Coffee was very good. More expensive than in Ohio- oat milk latte was 6.75! Service was fast but not as friendly as it could be. Nice music and comfortable chairs. Lots of difference house made pastries available. They have a variety of unusual coffee drinks including a watermelon tonic with espresso. Great place for an excellent latte. Relatively quiet at 8 am.

Madeline L.

Yelp
Jacob Alejandro has great coffee and attention to detail. The two guys who owns it always smile and are glad you are there.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing cold brew w some fun flavors like pbj, toffee coffee, strawberry milk. Very calm and soothing and accepting atmosphere!

Yelp
Another positive review for this phenomenal coffee shop. Was in Troy, NY for a wedding weekend and the bride couldn't stop recommending Jacob Alejando! We knew we had to stop. What a beautiful shop, we were absolutely blown away. The staff was amazing - helpful, chatty, and friendly as heck! We ordered some of their special drinks and learned a bit about their background. All their syrups and bakery items are made fresh daily. The barista said to us "we're just trying to do things right" which I love! You can absolutely tell from the moment you walk in! 10/10.
google avatar

Yelp
Boyfie said Jacob Alejandro was one of his favorite coffee shops near Albany, so of course I asked him to bring me here while I was in town! I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of their drinks. I felt that their menu was very carefully and thoughtfully curated to include a variety of traditional and more innovative drinks (think tiramisu latte and strawberry milk cold brew!) I opted for a hot matcha latte with their homemade almond milk, and I could definitely taste the difference between their almond milk and my usual almond milk of choice (which is Califia). Even when I asked for my latte to be unsweetened as well, the sweetness from the almond milk complemented the matcha nicely. This was - surprisingly - one of the more memorable matcha lattes I've tasted (aside from Cha Cha Matcha's, which is my all-time favorite). Admittedly, while I was spending over a week in Albany, it was hard to find places I'd like. But Jacob Alejandro proved to be a standout.

Yelp
A solid latte, friendly staff and wonderful ambiance, what more could you want. So happy I found this place while in town.

Yelp
I love Jacob Alejandro coffee shop! We dropped in form out of town and I was positively overjoyed by baristas helping us and chatting with us, tasty treats and drinks we got, and the ambiance of the place! I got matcha latte with oat milk and my brother got coffee late, we also got a savory scone - sage dried tomato, from a mouthwatering options, and I went back for a ginger turmeric tea later. The matcha latte was the best one I've ever had! Velvety smooth, perfect temperature, and spot on balance of Matcha-ness. Barista was attentive enough to offer adding honey for sweetness - I chose without it and absolutely loved the creation. The barista preparing our drinks put a lot of heart ( literally - the foam design was beautiful, and figuratively - I felt cared for!). While we were waiting for our treats to be prepared, the other Barista was a joy to chat with, about their menu choices, origins ( Jacob and Alejandro's creations!! One is the master behind the pastries - sweet and savory, and the other one sounds like the soul and creativity behind the enticing menu of flavors!) and travel. I'm addition to the caring and welcoming crew here, the ambiance is warm and comfy! There is indoor and outdoor seating. And cool Jacob Alejandro merchandise. I must also mention the brand - Jacob and Alejandro clearly put in volumes of love, thought and care into their brand!! From coffee cups beautiful design, to elegant pieces of branded parchment papers under pastries, to beautiful business cards, and much more around the shop - all these creative touches added up to the tasty and relaxing experience we have! If you are in Troy, passing by, visiting RPI, or just want to make a dedicated trip - I recommend the gem that's Jacob Alejandro specialty coffee shop.

Karen L.

Yelp
Really good latte and great service! The barista noticed I was working and brought me a table lamp unprompted.

Yelp
This is such a cute place! The interior is very aesthetically pleasing and creates a fun environment for socializing or getting some work done. They had some really unique drinks as well. I don't remember exactly what the drink is called by it was an iced latte with a hint of rosemary which surprisingly really complimented and enhanced the taste of the espresso within the latte. I was in Troy for a conference and met up with a friend who is local and really wish this place was closer to where I live because I would be here all the time.

Jordon E.

Yelp
It was a very comfortable space. I enjoyed the cold brew I got, the flavor or notes were very unique.
google avatar

Hopie D.

Yelp
I went here to study and I got a lot done. I ordered a matcha latte and it was wonderful. The people are really nice and the menu has a lot to offer if you drink coffee.

T J.

Yelp
I'm all about the full experience. The decor of this place is very nice. But the actual owners make you not want to support their business. Their personalities are so unwelcoming!! Even when they're faking a smile you can feel it. There used to be better staff at one point. I remember 2 younger guys that were always working and I loved talking with them. They even remembered customers. Now it just feels dry and bitter in there. But hey, at least it looks cute.
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
Love the interior design with the rich deep blue colors. The vibe of the cafe is a combination of it being very fancy but also relaxed and chill. I enjoyed my lattes and cappuccinos but sometimes the espresso flavor gets lost. It is also on the pricier side. They have a few tables for it to be a great place to catch up with family/friends or enjoy some time alone.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Beautiful coffee shop with creative options. I had a matcha paradise drink - it was great! Love the beautiful historic building the shop is located in and the gorgeous interior design and stained glass windows. Baristas were friendly and helpful. Definitely a must visit!
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
So delicious! The quality of their ingredients is top notch! Really nothing like it! These owners really put their heart and soul in their drinks and special treats! I will definitely go again and again!
google avatar

Anh N.

Yelp
I walked in and felt as though I was in a distinguished tailor's shop rather than a coffee shop. There's a lot of dark wood and paint, so the shop has a very elegant feel to it. After a hot day of wandering around the weekend farmer's market, I needed something to cool me down, so I got their seasonal latte (not the vanilla one, the other one that I can't seem to remember...it might have been something floral). What initially struck me was that the drink was super concentrated, in the sense that the flavors were very distinct and I had no problem picking out the flavor profile they were aiming for--I really liked it! I think the espresso itself was a little on the acidic side, but the oatmilk helped balance that out really well.
google avatar

Bradley B.

Yelp
Jacob Alejandro is the go to cafe in Troy and Albany as a whole. The cold brew is fantastic, especially the strawberry oat milk cold brew. I always love any of their many matcha creations too! They're always kind despite the long lines they can have, and their food always is a delight. Can't recommend it more!

Ken G.

Yelp
Very very very cool place and definitely troy needed this unique coffee shop. You pay what you get for which can be a little tad bit pricey but again the coffee is just wow. They take their time and it shows with the taste. Staff is friendly and is efficient!!
google avatar

Lexi C.

Yelp
Happened upon this quaint cafe on a whim, but this is probably the best coffee I've ever had. I try to get a new latte flavor each time I visit, but my favorite so far has to be their creme brulee latte or their seasonal candied lemon crepe latte. Both were delicious and the sweetness balanced out the typical bitterness of the espresso. Service is fast and friendly, will definitely come back!
google avatar

Alec K.

Yelp
Absolutely top 2 best coffee places in the capital region. Coming from Seattle, where every block has at least two cafe's, I've been waiting for a place like this to open in upstate New York. Something unique, delicious, and intriguing. Not only is their coffee of the highest quality, but they also have amazing scratch made seasonal drinks like their horchata latte. You can tell that Jacob and Alejandro have put their heart and soul into their work. Jacob's baked goods are also unbelievable to look at and even better to eat.

Carole J.

Yelp
The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. The baristas are helpful and friendly in both the albany and troy locations. Their coffee drinks are defiently sub par--very bitter tasting for a speciality coffeeshop. The espresso drinks aren't worth the price. Your better off going to the lark st or broadway location of Stacks Espresso Bar. Their coffeee is far superior!
google avatar

Jaeda H.

Yelp
A must have in you're in the area!! They're creative and the quality of their coffee and matcha is

Whitney-Victoria B.

Yelp
I had been referred here by a friend . 0 stars. Employees were rude and judgmental. I asked for a Columbia Victoria coffee. Did not know it didn't come iced as I never been . He told me the wait was 3 min. After 8 min I was still waiting and another employee made him aware I was waiting. I then asked if my coffee was iced.he said no I didn't say iced and I said that's fine then. He made me a cold brew which I can not drink being pregnant so basically waited for nothing. When I asked what it was he rudely said cold brew then asked me "well what do you want" offended I left with a cold brew I can't drink
google avatar

Dominica D.

Yelp
The prices, attitudes, demeanor, and flavor of this place (literally and figuratively) lead me to this 2 star rating. I get that you make your own almond milk, that's dedication to quality, but the coffee beans are extremely bitter and strong for my pallet. no matter what milk or flavoring I get, I always regret not getting Starbucks. There is so much potential here. But I will no longer be trying to convince myself of its worth because consistently the attitudes of the workers, as well as the hefty $12 price tag for TWO SUBPAR coffees in TROY NEW YORK is not worth it. Not in any world. It's extremely clean and great ambiance / vibe. Their hours could be better, coffee shops in Europe are open past 3:00pm y'all. Europe is known For their accessible coffee shops and to close so early in such a popping area, not living out your values of embodying a European coffee shop, is , well , a disgrace. I get where you're going though. I wish this place luck in the future to get it together because it's truly in a fantastic location. And Jacob and Alejandro are adorable !! Anyways, better off going to superior merchandise two streets over for a $7 latte that actually tastes decent and they are nicer there.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious coffee, espresso, and cappuccino beverages in the Capital District. Jacob offers a variety of freshly baked treats (scones, cookies, tarts, etc) to accompany your beverage. The laid-back atmosphere offers free wifi and comfortable seating (indoors and outside during the summer months) which is warm and inviting. It's my new coffee "hang out" when I'm in Troy.

Yelp
my family and i walked in since we were at the troy farmer's market. it was very busy but we were able to order quickly. we got a iced chai tea latte, a tiramisu iced latte and a regular coffee. everything was so delicious. the workers were all friendly and the service was very fast. you can tell the workers are very experienced and you can tell they know what they are doing. they also have a ton of merchandise to buy!!
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect place in the morning to grab a coffee! Love seeing places like this popping up in downtown Troy. I used to trade coffee, so I can be a bit of a snob. Highlights worth noting: - I had an oat milk flat white and it was on point. - Service was patient and friendly. - Their scones were so moist and fluffy! - Seating outside to enjoy the coffee was a treat.

Yelp
Very popular during last weekend's farmer's market. The espresso has some nice fruity notes. Quite a wait for that but the regular coffee outside was excellent too.
