Why Jacobsen Salt Co. Is One of the Only U.S. Producers of Sea Salt | Eater

"Ben Jacobsen and his Portland-based team hand-harvest salt from seawater and are among the few companies in the United States doing so. They focus on producing great salt consistently by sourcing seawater from a particularly high-salinity bay on the Oregon Coast after testing samples up and down the coast and finding that spot far superior. The operation turns that seawater into several curated products — pure flake salt, finishing salt, and pure kosher salt — while emphasizing local stewardship and the importance of maintaining the source’s long-standing water quality." - Avery Dalal

Whoa, Nelly! Don't get the caramels unless you just seriously want to eat a large piece of chewy salt! However, get the salty licorice! It's delightful. It's salty with a pleasant anise licorice kick. Their salt is beautiful, but the flavored ones need more flavor. Especially the truffle salt version. I will try a box of caramels next year as we love that you are local!

Was at the coast for my birthday! I was happy and joyful until my experience at Jacobsen. It’s clear they don’t really want visitors, as there are minimal parking spots. I entered the gift shop had items in my hand to purchase. I made the mistake of asking about their story and process. I was very rudely told by staff to go to the website or if I saw a salt maker.. ask them. They also said I don’t have time, some people are coming as they walked out to the parking area. There was another car who parked in the wrong place. They were clearly more concerned with policing parking than selling me anything. I put all of it back and left. I won’t go back for rude contemptuous treatment for being curious. They make salt, not a lifesaving drug. I’m still shocked by the rudeness. Just keep driving not worth the visit.

Don’t pass by. No tours but a nice little gift shop, friendly assistant, and great variety of salts and honey! We are hooked on the Ramen, the Black Garlic, and the Seafood seasonings! Every salt is of guaranteed quality and is actually beautiful to look at! Oregon can be proud that Jacobson’s is here. So glad to visit here.

Life on a “Grand”-ular scale is right! This place is a must stop!!! I highly recommend Marcy’s top picks including the salty classic caramels. Just one takes a minimum of a weeks worry away. Promise!

Warehouse style store, with selection of locally produced Oregon salts. The staff were reasonably knowledgeable… Though I found the quality of the salts in the Meadow Salt store to be far superior and of equal value. Also they did not have all the salts in stock for purchase. Selection was somewhat limited as well as the quality. They also carry their own line of Caramel, that were quite nice! As well as collaborations with honey producers. Overall Worth a visit.

I haven't tried their salt but I got some of their salty caramels for Christmas. The caramels were horrible, extremely crumbly and the flavor was off. I had to spit it in the trash. My mom couldn't finish her caramel either! I love salted caramels and buy new ones to try when I travel and was really excited about these from Oregon. I would not suggest buying these caramels.

Salt and wine tastings with local wineries every other Wednesday. Super solid product with lots of variety. Love their habanero and ghost pepper salts. They also carry a good selection of local honey as well as other products from other local businesses. Their in house made caramel is awesome as well. Cool comoany with awesome products! Its a bit more than what you'd pay for Morton's salt, but it's worlds better and so worth the money!

Fun place with the most amazing selection of specialty salts I have ever seen! All of their selections are available to taste with friendly people to guide you on the best uses for each. Bee Local Honey is also setup here with the full line available to try, it is a must! We had a nice time and I can't wait to come back with friends.
