Yelp
I came here really wanting to love this place, especially after reading all the 4 and 5 star reviews and knowing how much I enjoy a good dive bar. Though I thought it was shade better than A-OK as 3 stars on Yelp denotes, it wasn't such a great experience that I'll be rushing back here anytime soon.
I stopped in on a Friday night at around 10:30, I entered the front patio area which is basically a large, covered, open space with a pool table and some seating. As Kevin C. stated in his review, if I hadn't known there was a proper bar inside this building from the photos I'd seen on Yelp, I may have simply left at that point. I walked to the back of the patio and into the bar proper and initially liked what I saw; A smallish, divey feeling bar with some damaged and dirty floor tiles, a long, fully stocked L-shaped bar to the left with some cigarette burns and damaged areas on the top of it, a group of people huddled around a few tables in a corner to the right, and in the back, live music provided by a cellist, bass player and some pre-recorded audio sequences. There are also a few TVs behind the bar for watching sports.
Maybe I came here on an off night, but neither the bartenders or the patrons were particularly friendly (though the little black dog running around the place that belongs to one of the bartenders was cool), and a few of the patrons simply seemed like dirty asses vs. the beloved "characters" that one normally finds in most any good dive bar. Domestic drafts (Yuenling, not craft beers) were $6, more expensive than Hooters and Ale House down the street.
The other thing that struck me about this place is that it's relatively small. When I came here, there were 1/2 dozen people on the patio smoking or playing pool, about the same amount at the bar (that's about all the bar stool seating they have), and another 8 or 10 people in the corner seated at the tables having a private party. That was it, that was pretty much the capacity of the place; it almost feels a bit too small to be lively and fun most nights.
It should be noted that Jada Coles doesn't serve food, but while I was here, a few customers did order pizza and other food via delivery and the bar staff furnished them with plates and napkins.
