This is the first time I've had fried catfish in a long while. I ordered a 3 piece catfish with Mac and greens. This brings back a lot of memories from our family friends cooking. The catfish was very tender and not dry at all! Greens were perfectly seasoned and that mac is unreal! Thank you so much! Highly recommended!

Disappointed. A 3 could have been a 5. Why? I ordered via DoorDash. I did not get 1 napkin, not 1 fork, not 1 sauce/hot sauce. If I order DoorDash and get a bag stapled w a receipt - that is now on the restaurant and not DoorDash to provide my accessories that will make my meal enjoyable! Yeah - so enjoy your 3 from your out of town guests who when we return to the area will not return here. Saying you are the best soul food in Portland and not giving that experience is a fail. 🤕

First of all, this place is amazing. I was in downtown flavor town with the catfish po'boy, which was amazing. The catfish was fried fresh with a super crunchy crust but buttery smooth fish on the inside. It's the kinda soul food I felt in my soul. The price for the portion size is definitely more than worth it! One po'boy was more than enough for me, and I'm 230lbs. I definitely will be coming back! Best food on mlk!

Enjoyed a catered order by Jada’s Soulful eats! Great food, great portions and great flavor! We served to a large, mixed crowd of people who couldn’t help but gobble up their share and come back for seconds! The green beans with turkey and the lasagna were the biggest hits! The Apple and feta salad was perfectly proportioned for a great balance of flavors! All of it was great food and the priced right! Almost forgot the barbecue wings- which perfectly cooked! Yum!

I ordered a pork chop dinner with Macaroni and Sweet potatoes. The pork chops were made to order, they were still steaming hot by the time I got them home. The sweet potatoes were okay. The Mac and cheese was interesting, it is not southern Mac and cheese. It is seasoned differently than what I am use to. I wouldn’t order it again personally but it wasn’t bad, just different.

Catered our church's anniversary banquet and the food was very good! Loved the lasagna, green beans, red beans and rice! The sweet tea, cookies, pies...it was all good!!

This place is so incredible!! I went here for the first time today with a friend who loves soul food and he said it’s the best he’s ever had. The catfish was amazing, super fresh with a very clean flavor and not oily at all. We got the collard greens and mac and cheese, which were also top tier! It’s a substantial portion size for the price, we shared the 3pc catfish between 2 people and it was plenty of food. The service was great and everyone working there was really sweet!! We will DEFINITELY be back.

Me and wife have been thinking about this for awhile, we have finally came let me tell you they do not disappoint. I ordered the chicken po'boy with a side of mac and cheese, my wife got the catfish plate with a side of greens and an extra mac and cheese. Everything was portioned as it should be and seasoned well and juicy and surpassed our standards by far. The kool aid was sweet as it should be with a good amount of ice to keep it cold and refreshing. We can't wait to come back. And the service was so amazing the hospitality was great I would highly recommend

Oh yeah baby! THIS is some good food! Actually worth my money time and gas. This is now a staple for all of my friends100000/10 I'm talking service,food and vibes all matched.

Came here for lunch on a Wednesday and had to wait almost 45 minutes to an hour for my meal. I did notice though that she was taking orders before the opening time so that might have had something to do with it. I got the catfish Poboy and it was pretty good and the amount of catfish in the sandwich was very plentiful. There was also a very good serving of fries and it was all crispy. The weight aside which might have not been her fault completely I will definitely try this place again.

I absolutely LOVED everything that I ate here. The chicken was nice and juicy, FRESH, and seasoned to perfection! Mac was perfect!!! The sweet potato pie was good as well. 10/10!!! With kool-aid too??!! Classic :) can't wait to try other things!!!

Stopped by the first time today and got their Mac & Cheese and Shrimp Po'Boy. Yummmmmy! Fast service, large servings and super good. I will go back.

This is the sweetest food truck! I was looking for a Good place for a snack and right away they were so sweet and gave me a sample of the sauce. Mango habanero, spicy and sweet! Love it she ended up giving me a wing too! If I was going to eat here I would've def ate here! We are leaving to dinn so I can't eat that much but I want to come back for the Mac and cheese! And chicken wings! Yum yum yum

This food truck area seems to have two long lines. One line coming from the Grindz, the other coming from here. But the first line you see upon arrival appears to be linked to Ja'das. I actually placed an order with the Grindz first. Then while waiting, noticed "catfish" on Ja'das menu. This meant, I had to give these guys a try too lol! Now let's talk about this little Soulful Eatz truck called Ja'das: + Parking + Not many spaces in the lot, so plan for parking along the street. I think all the businesses that are there also use that same entrance/exit. It's not Ja'das fault, but it's just not a good flow imo. Traffic jams expected. ++ My Order ++ Two Pieces of "Cornmeal Fried Catfish" and one side ($11), but two orders of the same. Man o'man oh MAN! So worth it! MMM mmm MMM mmm mmm! So crispy on the outside. And so tasty in the inside, with no heavy fishy smell either. I simply LOVED it with every bite! As for the Sides, I wasn't expecting much so I just asked for Mac'n'Cheese and some Yams. I'm not a fan of yams, but I absolutely loved the way there's is made. It wasn't overly sweet that it actually made me like yams more than before lol. Same goes for their Mac'n'Cheese. It's not my All-time favorite mac (as that honor goes to Homeroom in Oakland), but damn their's is just fresh cheesy goodness! +++ Staff +++ I only had interactions with the lady taking my order, but she was cordial. ++++ A Soulful Closure ++++ I just checked out their menu again (see pic)... Deep Fried Ribs and Shrimp & Grits! Oh yeah, I'll be back. Now back to my closing statements: As I had mentioned, I wasn't planning on ordering here, but I honestly believe this place just has that aura around it. You know what I'm talkin' about. That "fried up smellin' aura" that makes your head pop up and look around. Where's that coming from? Your nose tracks it, you see it, and you have got to have it! Kind of like that good smellin' BBQ from the outside. I've only been here once, but that's what I feel Ja'das Soulful Eatz is all about! Bringing folks together with some great tasting food! If it wasn't for covid, I can see everyone at those picnic tables enjoying food together too.

I really enjoy this spot I had the 3 pieces of catfish with macaroni and cheese and greens, plus a watermelon drink. I couldn't eat it all. The place is a food truck surrounded by other culturally diverse food trucks. Service was excellent and I felt the prices were reasonable. There is like a central courtyard area covered by a tent. Parking in the area is tight so you may end up on the side streets which is okay too. I'll be back

10/10 hands down the best Mac n cheese . Double back next time I visit. Although when my Mac n cheese wasn't done they warmed it in the microwave, next time I can put it back in the oven. Either way it was GREAT!!

Went during the quarantine to support businesses in our community. The wife and I had the catfish basket and chicken strips. The sides we chose were Mac & cheese, yams, and red beans & rice. The service was great and the food was delicious. Also, Love the location and fact they are still in the community. Will definitely be returning and so should you. Keep up the good work and the best of luck during these trying times.

Holy heck, try the dirty Mac!!! You will not be sorry and your taste buds will dance with delight! A tad spicy but I found it beyond perfect !

So, I'm in town, my first time in Portland and I'm from Chicago. I arrived Sunday, late, and it's Wednesday. The food has been lackluster to say the least (caught a nice place for drinks but I'll leave a separate review) and I went looking for the best food places. Portland is know for food trucks (according to "Somebody Feed Phil").... So, I google and found this spot on: Martin Luther King Dr. No less that's Black owned!! And said "let me try it!". I had the fried catfish, two sides, Mac n cheese and greens (they're made with smoked Turkey) and it was SOOO good!!! My friend had the shrimp po boy which she adored and our stomachs are happy! I went to leave a personal compliment and met the owner Naomi (she wasn't here when I ordered). Long/short when in Portland eat here! Toodles!!

Chicken was seasoned well greens were ok Sweet potatoes were Awesome!! Macaroni & cheese DO NOT PURCHASE Please was not tasty at all. They need to have cornbread when you serve greens. People from the south used Cornbread and greens. Otherwise they were Super Friendly and Cordial.. In town visiting fro ATL way of Birmingham Al. MS. Roberts

FINALLY!!! I've been on the soul food hunt for about 3 months now and my taste buds finally got what they had been waiting for! Ja'das Soulful Eatz shined the light for soul food here in Portland. The food stand is located at a site where there are many others around. Parking is very difficult inside the actual food stall area and the streets around it. It took me about 10 minutes to find a park. But it may be easier for those that know the area! The menu has changed compared to what is on Yelp (I'll take a picture next time I'm there), but today I was sold on the 3 piece catfish and 2 sides. For the sides I got candied yams and Mac & cheese. I was a little disappointed to see that they did not have greens on the menu (the only veggie option was fried okra), but then this gave me excuse to really pig out with the yams! I also ordered the raspberry lemonade. The food took about 30 minutes to be prepared. But this gave me time to see all of the food carts, and wait in the outside seated area. I came on the perfect day! It was a warm and sunny evening and it prompted me to even stay there to eat my food. I was very excited getting my food! I had high hopes for Ja'das Soulful Eatz, and knew my intuition wouldn't steer me wrong! Just from the sight of the food upon opening it, I knew I was finally getting the soul food that I'd been waiting for. The catfish was hot and crispy, even after the time I took to eat it, the texture did not soften. The catfish has a very slightly dirty taste but the sauces that accompanied it (one aioli, one tartar, and two packets of cayenne pepper sauce came with the meal), helped blend all the flavours together. The mac and cheese was TOO GOOD! From the taste I think they use some kind of garlic butter in it, because it definitely had a strong garlicy kick (which I did enjoy). I always love a Mac and cheese that has some kind of seasoning in it that actually complements the cheese rather than it just being a very cheesy. The yams were warm and soft as well with an amazing hint of vanilla in each bite. I took my TIME to eat this meal. I honestly did not want it to end! This is definitely one place that I will miss as I days out here are coming to an end. If you're ever visiting Portland, on a warm and sunny day, this is definitely a great place to have lunch or dinner with your family.

Took a friend from out of the country here for her first try of mac n cheese. Ordered the side mac which came in a maybe 1c serving for around $5. She loved it! She raved how ooey gooey and cheese it was. Also, despite looking pretty small, it filled her right up! A little on the spendy side which had me drop 1-star, but solid food.

Food was AMAZING!! Seemed like the whole event was spent with people asking where we got the catering from. Will order again. Catfish was amazing, as was the bread pudding.

I love Ja'das! They make an amazing macaroni and cheese and being that I've been a macaroni and cheese connoisseur since the day I could eat solid food (it was my first) I give this mac an A+. The fired Basa fish is so crispy on the outside and the fish is perfect moist and flaky. This is one of my go to restaurant.

That fried catfish platter and that dirty mac tho!!! Listen..... that fried catfish is cooked to perfection... EVERY TIME. I always get that perfect crunch mingled with the meaty catfish. They've never steered me wrong, I get it EVERY TIME. I also order their dirty Mac and usually have it for lunch the next day. The shrimp dirty Mac is my fav. But if you feel bold, get the combo. And just to make me feel like I'm back in Mississippi, I always get the kool-aid. It's delicious. This is a great soul food spot, I highly recommend!

This is the closest I have had to real soul food. Real cornmeal fish Pies are excellent Yams not too sweet and has good flavor Customer service is top notch You will love it. Give it a try

A little of a drive coming from SE, but traffic hasn't been as awful as it had been, pre-Covid. I parked a few blocks away, as people are still home and parking is a little scarce. I wanted to try their fried ribs, which look delicious in his photos, but they didn't have any that day. I ended up with chicken strips, 'mac and cheese, banana pudding, and their decadent red velvet cupcakes. Not that I am counting calories, but I probably ate two days worth of calories and it was worth it. They also have shrimp and grits, I think on Sundays and I'll have to stop by when they have it. I love shrimp and grits! They were all really friendly and my food came out hot and fresh within 20 minutes. Look them up on Instagram to see their daily specials!

Soul Food has been a tough find in Beaverton. Soul is defiantly something that is lacking out here. My mom and I were helping my sister with quarantine supplies and decided that Soul Food in Portland was the way to go, and we ended up here. We ordered two 3 piece meals of catfish and chicken, each with 2 sides so we could try every side. I'm gonna review them each in order of least favorite to favorite. These scores are reviewed against each other not other restaurants. Fries 3/5 They came crinkle cut which is not my favorite kind of fries experience but were tasty enough. There was also a TON of them. Beans and Rice 3.5/5 It is beans and rice. It is good, and seasoned well. But it is a very simple standby. Catfish sauce: 3.5/5 Some kind of spicy mayo sauce came with the catfish. It was good but we didn't use much because of the other sauces. Chicken 4.5/5 Flavorful AF. Really great breading, good quality chicken. Catfish 4.5/5 Same as the chicken. Good stuff, great breading, awesome seasoning. I think it slightly won out against the chicken. Barbecue sauce: 5/5 If you come here. Ask for EXTRA of this. It is tangy with spice and has an excellent flavor. We sadly only had one cup of it with the chicken. We used 100% of it as it improved both chicken and catfish better than the other sauces. Yams 5/5 The yam side dish was absolutely delicious. I never expected it to be among my favorites but it helped greatly along to the 5 star review. It is sweet but not too sweet. It was like the best candied yams I've had but it wasn't even candied. Mac and Cheese 5/5 Sooooooooooo good. Expertly seasoned, rockin' cheesy texture. Just great ingredients all around on these dishes. But this was probably the best side dish, just closely beating out the yams. Banana Pudding 5/5 Good lord. I love banana pudding to start with, even lackluster banana pudding is enough to peak my interest. But this was knocking it out of the park. Such good flavors, lots of (what appear to be some kind of ladyfingers or waffers?) cookies in there and just an excellent texture experience. So if you are debating coming here let me just sum up. Yes. This place is awesome. I recommend the Yams and Mac N Cheese (if they have it. The sides seem to change daily) and whatever preference of entree you have.

Shrimp and grits are sooooo good (served on Sunday's) and the fried basa and catfish is just as good as you can imagine. Such a nice staff too.

What is up with Portland ??? I have yet to eat bad shrimp and grits in this town - This time I ordered it from here and whoah. Thoughtful peeps too - they put the bacon on the side (yay for supporting our non-pork eating friends) but you know it'll ALL land in my belly - AND BONUS NEWS they are taking covid seriously in their store on MLK - I appreciate the care and the amazing food.

Great find! My Husband actually came across this food pod a week ago and decided to try Ja'das, and was surprisingly very happy with how hot and fresh the food was. This was definitely very good for me to hear, since he's a Chef himself and extremely picky with his food. He brought me back here today and I ordered the honey garlic chicken tenders, seasoned fries and Mac n cheese. My Husband ordered the Shrimp & Catfish basket with collard greens. Everything was hot & freshly made. We also ordered the banana pudding, which was delicious. We drove all the way from Tigard, to eat here and it was definitely worth the drive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some good soul food. The lady working at the front was also very nice and welcoming.

Oh no Came back and the Mac and cheese was stodgy and congealed.. basically this happens when you use pre shredded cheeses instead of shredding it manually ... I was bummed that the owners decided to sell this.. Tried the pie and it put a coating of sugar on my teeth .. tasted like candy .. with barely any spice. Catfish was still good so we're the greens .. But honestly .. if your Mac isn't smooth and creamy please don't sell it .. Make a new batch and accept the loss because now I honestly won't be back ..

I'm glad that we stumbled across this food truck pod. The wait was a bit long but the food was on point. We ordered the Mac and cheese, chicken wings, fried basa, and sweet potato pie. Didn't know Portland had food like this! We'll definitely be back!

I am shocked and disappointed at how dry and crumbly the Mac is. A complete opposite experience than my first. Not sure why they would even serve this.

My husband is from Virginia and it's hard to find catfish let alone it cooked well. We read about this place in Portland Mercury and read the review. We drove over an hour to try it out. We called first to make sure they were open and the gal who answered the phone was super nice. Once we got there the parking is a little tight but we got a spot. We ordered our food and it was so good. We got the catfish, Mac n cheese and shrimp po boy. The Mac n cheese was some of the best I ever had. The cat fish was fried to perfection and the po boy could throw down with ones I've had in New Orleans. So good and we will be back!

Incredible! Everything I got was so delicious, and definitely some of the best yams I've ever had. Plus the people who work there are friendly, kind, and fun. I don't live nearby, but know that anytime I'm around this is where I'll be stopping for food!

Was in the mood for some southern style fried catfish and all the places local to us were closed as of now. Found Ja'das and ordered the 3piece catfish basket and a side of mac to go with for dinner last night. This spot definitely held it down and provided us with that catfish fix, flavor was amazing and worth the drive out to get it! We will absolutely be back - Recommend for sure!!

LOVED the shrimp poboy! The serving was huge - my partner and I could have happily split one. I can't wait to go back and have another poboy and try more of their food. Made with love and tasted the love with every bite. Bravo!

The fish fried to a golden perfection. The deep fried ribs is so good you will think of them for days after and the sides are every mouths desire!!! I can eat at this place everyday and guaranteed to walk away with a full belly and a smile on my face made that I'm full because I want to eat more

This place has no right to be this good. The greens and mac SLAP. Catfish is fried to a perfect crisp and the banana pudding tastes like home. At least the end of the world is tasty as hell.
