Jade Garden restaurant

I visited Jade Restaurant at 1041 North Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ 07201 and it was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The shrimp fried rice and chicken were absolutely horrible — stale, flavorless, and clearly not fresh. The food was so bad, I wouldn’t serve it to animals, let alone people. It’s alarming that something like this is being served to paying customers. What’s even more concerning is how a restaurant operating at this level is still in business. Why are local food authorities not stepping in? Are there no inspections being carried out? This place is a serious health risk and should be reviewed immediately by the relevant authorities. Avoid this restaurant at all costs — both your money and your health deserve better.

Ordered take out at a nearby hotel. Order said 55 min, but it arrived much quicker than that. Food was average- General Tso was better than Sesame Chicken. I personally would have liked a little more sauce with each combo, they were fairly dry. After a long day of travel and nothing within walking distance, it worked.

The food was ok but have had much better. I ordered delivery to a hotel and the usual condiments were not provided, nor was a spoon for the soup. The wings and egg roll were good.

This may be one of the worst restaurants that I’ve ever had delivery from. The food was over an hour late and the food was absolutely disgusting. The shrimp was undercooked. The broccoli and garlic sauce was terrible. This food could make someone sick. Absolutely terrible!!

Every time my total ends in something and 50 cents, they always give my a quarter and nickle instead of two quarters in change. I think they've made $1 in profit off me by now. Also, when i ordered General Tao's over the phone, they made me regular wings instead. A bit bummed but i told them just to put the General Tao sauce on the wings and itd be fine. They had the audacity to charge me 2 more dollars to put on the sauce onto the order they messed up. Idk how theyre still in business. As of Aug 10, their wonton soup and sesame chicken has zero sodium or flavor. Just a heads up for anyone else interested in these two dishes what so ever.

I ordered from Jade Garden today hoping for a good Chinese meal, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The chop suey was just okay—nothing special in terms of flavor. The special fried rice honestly would’ve turned out better if I had made it at home. Same with the lo mein—bland and lacking character. It just didn’t meet my expectations. I do appreciate the prompt service, but I hope they improve the seasoning and overall quality.

Charged me extra for putting ketchup on my chicken wings ... rude service on the phone and in person .. very low quality Chinese food .. no place to wait for the food .. sanitation may be a issue. Jade Chinese food was good 10 years ago but I stop buying from them because they really fell off.

The food is okay, it’s not the best thing I’ve ever tasted. For the price they’re charging for food, you would think that they would offer free soda. I get it , the pandemic was hard on everyone but they don’t even give fortune cookies either. I also only got three sauces when I got my food. I will not be ordering from here again. Good luck with your business.

I recently had a terrible experience with the customer service at "Jade garden " on July 5" when I called to discuss my problem the lady rudely dismissed me and gave me me attitude and then she proceeded and she hung up.

Ordered take-out to our hotel and service was quick, food was hot and delicious. We got the pork fried rice and chicken lo mein and loved both. Wish we would've tried more off the menu.

Horrible, horrible, horrible!! Very nasty and awful person who called me to verify my Grub Hub order. Here on business and stuck in the hotel for one night and I had to deal with this foolishness. The owner was exceptionally rude and condescending, as if I'm that desperate to eat anything from an establishment with someone that disgusting in behavior. I only ordered two items, but with the delivery fee and tip, my total came to $40. Needless to say, I expeditiously cancelled everything because of his horrific mannerism. So, no food pics here....

My family & I have been ordering from this place for years now and they always have the best, fast service & the food has always came out great especially the noodles amazing.

It's a small shop, but the food is good and the service is quick. Best of all working at the airport it's nearby. Will definitely come back again.

This food was so disgusting the shrimp was Gray in color over battered fries were greasy and disgusting the cheesecake was horrible I will never order here again deliver was slow I do not write bad reviews, but I do not want anyone to deal with this just nasty

Attitude is everything.... Just lost a regular for unnecessary hostility from their delivery driver. Sorry to have to change my review :/ On to the next Chinese place lol

I agreed with most Yelpers- this place is a OKAY. There was a guy in our hotel lobby to take delivery order (Ramada near EWR) which was helpful. However, the food did not come within the timeframe as promised and I had to call the restaurant to check. The food was pretty plain: 1) tomatoes with eggs - good but it is hard to mess up this dish. 2) sautéed mixed veggies - good. 3) fish with pickled vegetables- awful, too salty and vinegary for me. The last thing I did not like was that they profiled me (a Chinese person touring in NYC) and charged 10% tips for delivery and did not give us a receipt. I usually tip fair, but I don't like mandatory tips.

i'm literally jade gardens biggest fan. i've been ordering regularly for literal years and i just recently saw the reviews on yelp which are scathing and honestly in my opinion completely unfair. i have a weird address because there's a street on the opposite side of town with the same numbers and street name and i've had issues with that but they've NEVER been rude, condescending, or anything like any of these words people have used to describe them. They've only ever been kind and at "worst" curt but honestly they're running a busy restaurant so they're pressed on time and we live in the city. why are you expecting leisurely experiences? they've got things to do and places to be and i appreciate that immensely because you get a sense of them caring about YOUR time too. their food is great and anytime i've ever had an issue with an order (which is extremely rare) they've had no problem with fixing it or letting me add onto something next time i order. Only thing i could even consider criticizing is the time delivery can take but even then it's understandable because they're usually busy and i'm not the only person who wants great chinese food. i have a PERSONAL vendetta with anyone who speaks ill about this restaurant because i will defend them till i die. The problem with 99% of yelp reviewers and on this restaurant in particular is they only review negative experiences and they aren't understanding whatsoever and have a weird sense of entitlement. Get over yourselves and don't leave such insulting and scathing reviews because of one mildly inconvenient experience. your actions can shut down a business who does not deserve it at all. to end on a positive: i'd recommend the steamed dumplings, house special lo mein, and orange chicken (it can be a bit spicy if you're not used to spice so be advised) if you order from jade gardens i hope you love it just as much as i do!

Do not go here these people are complete rip offs. I ordered shrimp fried rice with chicken wings and they charged me $10.35 and an extra dollar for using my card so in total $11.35. Out of the whole meal I got literally three shrimps and four small chicken wings. I called the restaurant to tell them about my complaint and the only thing the guy could tell me was that's how it comes. He didn't offer a free soda or any kind of accommodation for me being unsatisfied with my meal. I was highly disappointed with this place and feel they need to do better by the people they serve in the community.

Ordered online.....took over and hour and a half for food to arrive on a Saturday afternoon.....they are 2.0 miles from my location.

Do not order here unless you like getting ripped off. 13.57 for a small portion of general tso chicken. I got charged full the full order but only gave me a combination portion which is only 10 on Uber eats. The owner did not budge when I said that is not what I ordered. He said that's how it comes. HEED TO OTHER REVIEWS.

Order at your own risk! I was visiting a friend in New Jersey and placed a telephone order at this place. The chicken wings had actual feathers on them. The fries were stale, reheated, and full of grease. This was the worst I've ever had. Never will order from them again. Absolutely.........Horrible!!

If I could read the comments here before I ordered. I stayed in a hotel by Newark airport for a short visit to NYC. Thought this could be a quick and easy way for dinner. I missed Chinese food anyway, and their menu definitely didn't look awful. Turned out that I was totally Wrong. It was a Disaster! The dish looked nothing like the pic on the menu. They didn't even feel the trouble to chop the veggies into a bitable size. And the food tasted awful. I know this restaurant is working with some of the travel agencies to take advantage of Chinese tourists, I can't come up with any other reasons that they are still running this business. SHAME!

This is like a re-run of the Seinfeld, I just can't believe is actually happened I just moved to the area, so I was counting on "Yelp" and giving me some info, this place pops up and sound like an okay place I ordered the lunch deliver to my apartment, after 25 minutes, the driver called me, and as usual the Chinese deliver guy start out line soonest you pick up the phone: Ya Chanins foo is here! (you know they all sound like that. lol) My response was okay, bring it up to my apartment building, you have the apartment number He said: O...k I asked: You have my apartment number right? I buzz you in He replied: Huh? No! You come down, you come down NOW (with a very angry voice) So I asked: Why? You can just bring it up to me, can you? He replied with a very angry attitude: You come down now or no Chanins foo for you Now he just pissing me off I told him if I go down there now, I am kicking your ass! He took off running I understand if he have to be careful delivery inside the building, but first, this is a luxury brand new building with locked door and security cameras, use some common sense! But what really unexceptable is the attitude, he pretty much ordering me to go downstairs and meet with him, Who the hell he think he is? I got money, if I want the Chinese guy delivery the food into my apartment and serve it onto my dinner table, I CAN DO IT, I don't need YOU JADE GARDEN, REMEMBER! You are NOT the only FAKE Chinese restaurant here, I'm only 30 minutes from Manhattan, MORON!

We stay in Elizabeth whenever we're visiting relatives in the area and we're always looking for good places that deliver. Have been disappointed with the other Chinese places we've ordered from in the past, but NOT Jade Garden. Is it the best Chinese ever? No, not from the limited sample set we've had, however it certainly wasn't bad like a couple of the others we've ordered from! Ordered a Roast Pork Egg Roll, Egg Drop Soup, Crab Rangoon, and Roast Port Fried Rice and couple of cans of Coca Cola. All tasted great to me. The food was hot, the drinks were cold. Nothing was greasy at all. Nothing was salty at all. They delivery for free for orders over $10. They say they'll do Low Fat/Low Calorie/Low Cholesterol upon request (though, see the not greasy comment above).

Uhm... This is your basic Chinese spot. The bf went inside for pick up so for now I can't give any review of the inside. I ordered the safest thing when trying a new place... Chicken wings w fried rice. Thanks be to the food Gods it was real chicken ( found some sneaky feathers that survived hit grease!!) most may say eww but it somehow gave me small comfort. They give a ton of rice w the combo orders so I definitely have left overs. The chicken tasted great... Flavorful and crispy but not greasy at all. The rice was OK but I didn't like the peas ( beef fried rice had peas and carrots ) I'm a little biased as my benchmark for good rice is either equal to or better than Chinese take out in NY. ( been living in Jerz for over 5 years now an still haven't found anything amazing ) I would order from here again. They take cc Whoo hoo!!

General Tso TOFU ! You won't be disappointed, it's a healthier alternative to the meat, and with brown rice, it becomes the best comfort food. At least the best Chinese food take out I've had by far

We ordered through grubhub and after it was dropped off, the driver called back to ask us how much of a tip we gave. He then went on to say how he doesn't get his tips and wanted to come back for cash. We are good tippers but we are not going to get strong armed for more tips. To have it done over, we should not have tipped at all. We will not order from there again.

The yelpers have been harsh on this place. So IMHO, it won't make you sick, and the staff wasn't rude. I tried it, despite the shade, because it's across the street. My main issue is, it has no flavor. I had the shrimp fried rice and the beef lo mein, and both had an ever-present taste of nothingness. Even adding the wrong spice or sauce in the wok would have been a step up, but this is just real bland Chinese food. If you have to make a special trip or have it delivered, don't. If you are close by and it's only a short walk, why not... You might enjoy it more than everyone else.

Heed the reviews...this food is inedible. It's disgusting. I've never tasted anything like it and I eat ALOT of take-out Chinese food. It's vile. GrubHub delivered and it took an hour and 45 minutes. Eat ANYWHERE else.

This is an OK please. Also decent but def not great. Safe place for something quick and easy. Don't expect too much though.

I'm Chinese but don't like Chinese food at USA because is the deteriorate quality! Chinese restaurants at US and other places in the world compete prices only with sacrifice of quality. It's a disaster.

Not the best Chinese food ever, but it's pretty decent. I've don't have a complaint about the food as it's always been good. Delivery can be a hit or miss, once I waited almost 2 hours for a delivery. The owner of the restaurants sometimes brings the delivery to me and is always super pleasant. Great guy. As for Kenny T's review, would it be courteous for the guy to deliver to your doorstep, yes. But having been personally linked to chinese delivery guys being beaten half to death to be robbed of a few dollars, I can certainly relate to their hesitence to do so- "luxury building" or not.

This is probably the worst Chinese take out I have ever had. The wonton soup and beef fried rice was flavorless.

I ordered total 6 items! I only got 5! It took 1.5 hours to get the order. The hot and spicy beef only have few slices beefs. The sweet and sour rib was made with bbq 。The pickled beef noodles had no taste 。The Chinese broccolis became broccolis 。I would like to give them half star if there was one.

Ordered food on a regular Tuesday and they took over an hour and a half to deliver it. And when I received the food it was cold. I called the restaurant and they were extremely rude. Besides the food being nasty. Don't waste your money.

I've been ordering here for 2 years now and this place is a go to Chinese place for me they are the only place that lets me order plain mei fun and they are all I crave during my pregnancy .

Placed an order for a large order of Lo mein and a small order of mixed vegetables SEPARATE. They sent ONE small order of lo mein WITH vegetables TOGETHER. charged it as "the cheapest" but didn't send me what I wanted. Smh make sure when you order they repeat the order clearly because otherwise they'll choose for you what to send.

I ordered Shrimp chow mei fun. All the shrimp were not cleaned. I called and the shop staff told me the only clean jumbo shrimp. Then wanted to know if they wanted me to have them clean my shrimp. Seriously ! I replied that instead I will call the Dept of Health.

When I placed an order with these folks last night, the person taking the order said my food would be there in 30 minutes. An hour later, I called to see where it was. He assured me it would be just five minutes more. Twenty minutes after that, I called back a second time. He called the driver and said he was just two minutes away. Ten minutes later, I finally received my food. Total weight time for 30 minute delivery: 90 minutes.

Ive been eating at jade gardeb for sometime now the food is not bad but how they cook the food it sucks I once saw them make my food when i ordered the boneless spare rib tips and the lady literary took the pork microwaved it then cooked it, i was like wtf and the place look kinda messy in that place they need to make it look a lot better too, so now i order at panda kitchen.

There were two great things about this delivery order - - - 1) it arrived in the time frame as promised and 2.) the steamed rice was excellent. Other than those two things, the food was terrible. We ordered pork egg rolls (the wrapper was sooo thick), fried wontons (very greasy), egg drop wonton soup (no flavor), and a shrimp entree that had an interesting zing to it - but not in a good way. I really was hoping this could be my go to place for Chinese food when I was staying near the airport. But it's not even close.

Ever since they changed owner food is not the same any more. Will not get food from this place they need better chefs/cookers in this place.

We have ordered from jade garden since I was child. Many years past , they still got same quality food and good service.

Bland, overloaded with a taste if preservatives. No fortune cookies and they told me driver would bring credit card machine. Driver gives me a hard time demanding cash and then demanded 40% tip for not answering phone. I came out within 2 minutes of phone call, I figured out it was food and explained hotel phone (Double Tree, horrible hotel, usually they're good) was broken and none of the buttons worked.

Placed an order for delivery to a hotel for vegetarian spring rolls, Broccoli w Garlic Sauce, and General Tso's Tofu. The food came in the 40 minute quoted delivery time... yay! I opened up my order... to find General Tso's Chicken. Ick. I called back to explain that I don't eat meat and ordered tofu, not chicken and was told that they don't have General Tso's Tofu. (It's item #123 on the menu) After stating repeatedly that it is indeed on the menu, I was told I would be charged $2 extra as it doesn't come in a size small. I had to point out that I was looking at the menu and it is offered in small & large. As I write this I am waiting for my General Tso's Tofu to be delivered. For ordering more than $10 worth of grub I received a free soda- pass on the Orange Plunge.

Not bad good flavor but take for ever to delivery so you need to call like one hr before you want to eat .....

Probably the worst Chinese I have had. I ordered delivery they didn't bring the drink I ordered yet still tried to charge me for it. The food was cold. Definitely will avoid if I travel to this area again.

Food was bland. I got the chicken with broccoli and there was little to no brown sauce on it. Also, they said 30-45 mins and the guy was here in 10! :-)

I only order Chinese from here. They don't drown the food and grease. However its not dry at all it still taste great! And they have alot of vegetarian plates which is great since its very rare to get a good vegetarian place.

I probably won't be ordering from here again. My order was incorrect then I also had a beverage the beverage was not on my bill but I took the food anyway because I'm hungry and I would have to wait even longer for my correct order I had to pay for a beverage that I thought was already included in order. Food was decent but service between ordering and receiving my food was terrible

I am an honest person reviewer and I don't know why the ratings are low for this place. I have ordered from them and had delivery and I find their food much better than other Chinese take out places. I LOVE their Garlic Chicken with white rice. Their dumplings are tasty also. Take a chance and check them out. I have no affiliation with this restaurant, by the way, only a customer.

Waited an hour and half, called back in twice, no food delivered. It might have been good, but if they can't bother to show up with it then I can't eat it. I would suggest ANY other place for food.

I had purchased boneless ribs special and the food was just bad. The meat was very dry and it seemed like it was old. The rice had a few pieces of meat as well. Just a very bad first time experience. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

I should read reviews from here before place an order. My experience was awful :( I ordered from them 3 items (I was starving on that time) after I tried the first dish ;Fish with garlic sauce, I called back to the restaurant about taste was too sour. The lady who picked up my phone said everywhere garlic sauce tastes like this (really?) I told her even baby corn was sour too, she said because that baby corn canned. (Might be I order the wrong one) so, I'd like to place a new order and I don't mind to pay for it ... I asked her how's the black bean sauce taste ,not sour right? She told me she doesn't know the taste cause she never tried food before (make me surprised) if staffs don't have any information or knowledge about their job I mean FOOD how they gonna make confidence to customers??! So I didn't order anything more. After that the owner called me back and said if I want refund I have to go to restaurant tomorrow (he got a wrong point) Before I don't want any refund at all but now I need fully refund !! (except tip for delivery guy because he didn't do anything wrong) I didn't eat anything after that :( they ruined my dinner!!

I have lived in Elizabeth my whole life and trust me i've eaten from every chinese resturant in town and this one is my favorite.Yes its small not for eating in but the food is good and my family always gets takeout or delivery.Honestly ive had sum bad encounters with others (food posioning) so i always been cautious. And the owner is so nice he delivers himself some time .There Lo mien is the best and so is there general tos.Ive read some of the reviews and Kenny T is a pompous twit. Just because he has money dosent mean the guy has to bring his food up to his apartment maybe he needs to take the stick stuck up his bum turn off the Seinfeld and walk downstairs to get his food. This is Elizabeth people get shot and robbed everyday especially delivery guys.

worst delivery service ever!!!! every time i called to see where was my food at they keep saying is on the way..when 2 hours pass i told them to keep it!! so ridiculous having to wait over 2 hours for food when im like 10 minutes away!!! never again...

place order over the phone was told delivery time about 45minutes. its took about a hour and a half until i got the order, my wife and i was staying at the doubletree hotel in newark airport for few days while visiting nyc so we decided to order some takeout, we waited about a hour so i called them up to check the status, they told me on the way almost there, so i waited in the lobby for about half a hour for my food, no tip for him. he had the audacity to ask me for a tip after making me wait this long, hes lucky i didnt cancel my order making him bring it back i kept the food only becuase my wife was starving, but their wings were overcooked, ribs didn't taste too well, felt like soggy microwave. maybe it was because the food took so long and sat in the car for a hour and a half, rice was okay, i woudnt order from them again, maybe i ll order pizza next time to be safe
