"In a sea of Sichuan pepper broths and herbal soups, Jaew Hon is the rare Thai-style all-you-can-eat hot pot where diners can fill their pots with favorite Thai soups like tom yum and yentafo. The tom zap (lemongrass, galangal, lime leaf, shallot, heavy on the herbs) and jaew hon (shallot, basil, beef or pork blood) broths make up the spicy options. For those who miss the DIY flavors at Chinese hot pot places, Jaew Hon offers three sauces: spicy, less spicy, and savory with bean curd. Despite the Thai influence, there are all the standard fixings like beef slices, fish balls, and noodles included in the $30 all-you-can-eat meal (there is a 90-minute limit). Don’t skip out on the garlic fried rice, either. This spot is tiny and inconspicuous; it sits atop Playground, the restaurant on the ground floor. Bring cash and walk in; the restaurant doesn’t take reservations." - Caroline Shin, Eater Staff

Place was very small Seating and mobility around the Restaurant was terrible The fish, square fish balls and marinated pork were great! The garlic fried rice was also great. The service was below average This place is cash only The chicken was super bland For $35 (not including tax and tip) , it’s an okay deal. Went with a group of 11 people Total was $49 per person

First of all, I went to this Thai hot pot more than one time but never put a review. Another time the service was good BUT this time the women server was NASTY to our group. She was TERRIBlE!!! Another waiter was good but only her, She acted like she was mad and maybe she was upset with her sad life. So she didn't want to serve the customer good. I feel sorry for the business, to hire this suffer and sad person to serve customers. If you don't want to work at that day, you should take a day off and fix it out what you want to do, instead of destroying your workplace. I still gave 20% tip for the guy but still not happy with the woman. As long as you speak the same language, don't you want to get a good pay? the advantage of working at the Thai place didn't give you enough happiness? LOL! Poor you! Anyway, CASH only!!!

Google
I made special trip to NY from west coast for this place. My favorite is the clear spicy broth (tom zap) and of course the garlic fried rice. The dipping sauces are special too. I made sure to come by before 5pm to avoid dinner rush.

Google
The best hot pot place in NYC, and probably my favorite of all the hot pot places ever. The only Thai hot pot place that I know of in the city as well. It is AYCE and the prices have gone up over the past few years from $19.95 until now $34.95. Thank you, inflation. But it is still worth it. And it is CASH ONLY, which is slightly inconvenient, but still worth it. The broth is always so delicious. I always stick with the Tom Yum and Jaew Hon broth. They are both spicy and flavorful. Some days are more spicy than others. The beef is good quality and fresh. I especially like the fish filet and calamari. To dip these in their amazing spicy lime sauce - just divine. Since Covid, the customers are no longer allowed up to the veggies and rice stand. But the servers are quick with getting me what I need. I love the morning glory which none of the other hot pot places has. It is perfect when soaked in the flavors of the Thai broth. Another unique item is the unlimited garlic rice! My husband always devours this. Even though the place is small and the menu items are not expansive like some major hot pot restaurants nowadays, the freshness of the ingredients, the flavorful broth choices, the delicious sauces are more than enough to keep me and plenty of other from coming back. I always enjoy my meals here. It was worth the trek to Queens every single time.

Google
nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. However, for the $27 price tag, i prefer places with higher quality meats, such as 99 Favor Taste, and several others. for example, no lamb. 2 beefs, 1 is ok, the other kind of though . vegetable wise, they didn't have my 3 hotpot favorites - taro, spinach, winter melon and corn. :( one thing that was really good however was the shrimp and calamari. Overall a good experience, but i feel overpriced based on the selections which isn't quite in the same category as other places in this price range. i give it 3.5 stars

Google
Fantastic! Limited amount of meat selections, but you can ask for seconds (or thirds) and you can pickup as many vegetables or other items to include fish balls, cooked rice, etc... to fill your appetite. This place was packed and we waited about 15 minutes before being seated. It was our first Thai All-You-Can-Eat Buffet dining experience. Definitely worth a revisit. Courteous staff and credit is not accepted. Make sure to bring cash.

We visited NY and stayed at Hilton/midtown. It took us almost an hour to come to Jaew Hon in Queens. What I have to say is that it was worth it!! The restaurant was on the second floor. It had so many options on the menu to order. This restaurant is a buffet with time limit for 90 mins. We were here on Sunday at 6.45pm and it was not too busy. The food came out a lot on each order. I usually eat a lot,but couldn't order the second round. ☺

Yelp
Tldr - pricey novelty hotpot and not a must try given food variety and excessive surcharges Facts - CASH ONLY. It is 35 pp pre tax/tip. 90 mins eating time. Additional $10 per person per 15 mins. That is an potential $40 extra pp for an additional hour stayed. There is additional surcharge for food being wasted. Addtl prices - Can soda is $3, beer bottle is $7, smoothies are $8, and various drinks like thai tea are $4. Starting service charge (tip) starts at 20%. Receipts shows tip prices up to 30%. THEY CALC TAX POST TAX. IE: bill was $142 pre tax . Should be $28.59. The receipt said $31.13. This is schemey behavior. I dont see many restaurants do this. Visit opinion - service was fine. Food came prompt. They refilled broth stock when they saw it was getting low. Stand out prepared foods is def the garlic rice that everyone boasts about. The variety isnt as extensive as it can be for a $35 price tag especially when u think about other general hotpot spots like spring, hai di lao, sheep, etc. Granted, they are not thai hotpots but the concepts are the same. The smell in the restuarant is very food strong. Reviews on thr spacing is accurate. It can fit like 8 4 ppl tables. I would not recommend this for a must try given the price point, food variety, addtl surcharges for bigger parties, drinks, and how they calculate tip using post tax amount.

Yelp
~ CASH ONLY ~ In loveee with this thai hot pot! Pretty affordable ayce hot pot with a variety of options to choose from. I've gotten the tom zap, jaew hon and clear soup and don't be discouraged by the clear color of the soup, it's still packed with flavors! The quality of the meat isn't the best but I don't really mind given the quality of the soup, the sauces, price of ayce and GARLIC FRIED RICE were unbeatable.

Sally W.

Yelp
This was a neat experience - I've never had Thai hotpot and the base of the hotpot was really good. My friends and I got a tom yum base and it was so unique compared to typical hotpot/shabushabu I get. Additionally, their garlic fried rice is phenomenal, so definitely give it a taste when you go!

Yelp
The restaurant is a couple blocks from the 69th St subway station so it is convenient to get to. I was initially confused on where it was located. Jaew Hon is the restaurant upstairs and it is CASH ONLY. The restaurant is small but very clean and nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer an all you can eat experience from an extensive menu for a reasonable $35. Jaew Hon is basically a Thai hotpot where you cook veggies, meats, and seafood in a variety of delicious broths. You have a pen and a list of what you offer and mark on the paper what you want. They are very generous with the portions so start small. I was surprised at how good the quality of the meats were for an all you can eat. The sauces that accompany your meal are spicy but delicious. The garlic fried rice is fire, you will eat at least one bowl guaranteed. Definitely a great experience and worth checking out if you like Thai food. Make sure you bring cash and an appetite.

Yelp
CASH ONLY. I LOVE hotpot so I was intrigued when my friend told me about an AYCE Thai hotpot place. The place is a bit small but we came at 5:30 PM on a Saturday and there was no wait. The décor is really adorable and I probably said "this is soooo cute" 10 times. The broth flavors were all new to me since I've only had Chinese and Japanese hotpot before. We got the clear (chicken) broth and the beef blood broth - both extremely flavorful (the beef blood one was a bit spicy). Service was fast and they are really generous with the amount of food. My friend recommended the garlic fried rice, which I originally judged him for (because why would you order rice at an AYCE hotpot place right?!) but yes, GET THE FRIED RICE! I don't know what they put in there but it is heavenly and addicting and...we ended up getting a second bowl. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jaew Hon New York and trying their Thai hot pot, or sukiyaki. The broth, made with coconut milk and red curry paste, was rich and flavorful, and the addition of a variety of meats and vegetables made for a filling and satisfying meal. One standout element of the hot pot at Jaew Hon was the variety of dipping sauces and condiments that were served on the side. These sauces, which included fish sauce and chili flakes, added a bright, acidic, and spicy pop of flavor to the dish. They were particularly effective in cutting through the fattiness of some of the meats, such as the pork belly and beef. The ingredients at Jaew Hon were of high quality, with the meats being tender and cooked to perfection and the vegetables being fresh and crisp. The service was also excellent, with the staff being attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at Jaew Hon and would highly recommend their Thai hot pot to anyone seeking a delicious and authentic meal.

Yelp
I always. came at Jaew hon i love the soup base. Jaew hon and tom zap Meat quality and vegetables very fresh plus excellent service from the server team . Highly recommended

Yelp
I came here a few weeks ago with my 2 friends. It was a rainy Sunday evening and we happened to get in just in time before the dinner rush happened as we managed to quickly snag a table without too long of a wait. I told the servers that I was a vegetarian, so they were able to set me up with a separate pot with veg-friendly dipping sauces, which I immensely appreciated. This place works a lot like a dim sum place in that you get a checklist of items that you wish to order. I opted for ingredients that I don't normally find in Chinese hot pot places, such as morning glory. Ingredients were fresh, the service was excellent, and I certainly ate to my heart's content. My friends were also really happy with their choices, and the restaurant itself is super cute and kitschy to boot. Definitely looking forward to coming back here, especially when the weather gets colder. Cash only.

Yelp
This place was a little confusing as to what door led where, but just note that you have to go upstairs for this restaurant and you should be golden! We came here on a Wednesday evening and the place was relatively empty with only 1 or 2 tables getting taken during our meal. This led to a relatively peaceful and quiet meal which I enjoyed so I'd say weekdays are a safe time to go without much of a wait. As an all you can eat place, their menu was pretty diverse and they had pretty much anything you can think of for hotpot - no complaints there! Their non-alcoholic drinks were also pretty large and tasty so I'd recommend one if you're looking for something a little sweet. The broths they have are delicious as well and really make the meal Thai which I enjoyed. I would say that the meat seemed a little frozen when it came out, but that was the only thing we noticed that wasn't great. Everything else quality wise and service wise was really great! This place is cash only just as a heads up too - payment was quick though and the price I think was worth the meal. Overall, great place to grab hotpot and enjoy yourselves with friends. I would definitely come back to try their other teas/juices as well as another soup base!

Corliss K.

Yelp
A friend of mine from out state was visiting and they wanted to try this place out. The place is a little hard to find -- once you're at the location, there are two staircases. Take the one on the left. Once you're inside, there's cute Thai decor. A small space overall, but enough tables to fit some big groups if necessary. We came on a Saturday evening and had 5 people and were able to be sat immediately. Our table ordered the clear soup, Tom zap beef, Jaew hon beef, and yen ta fo broths just to be adventurous. All of them were really delicious and the food soaked up the flavors really well. The sauces were also soooo good. Very spicy and flavorful, but very reminiscent of Thai flavors. It's about $35/person for AYCE. The garlic rice is a must try here! Adding dill and the basil is also recommended -- helps the aroma with the broth. This place is cash only!

Maggie L.

Yelp
They charged your extra service fee and they also impose tax even cash only policy! They charged extra service fee for 5 above people but they should've informed us ahead Such awful service!

David C.

Yelp
Service average at best. Then holding the iPad while you tip and I cannot even see my bill. Just the tip screen? How about you let me see the itemized bill and I'll decide the tip amount.

Frielly T.

Yelp
If you're looking for Thai hot pot in queens and with some spicy ?? This is the ones! Not disappointed! One of my fave spots in any season ... Good food , good customers service so far And the spicy is killing it, makes me want more! Lol ... And don't forget to bring cash on you , no Zelle card or nothing .. Check it out guys and wait , don't forget to try garlic fried rice and refreshing plum juice ... Ciao

Crystal Y.

Yelp
Very similar to Chinese hot pot, Jaew Hon is a very cute place. The smell of fish sauce and other thai spices hit you when you open the door on the second floor. Not a huge place so I can see it getting very busy. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because I personally can't handle much spice. While I understand it is a thai place and the cuisine is all about it, there wasn't any non-spicy sauces for me and I felt it wasn't very friendly for someone like me. Otherwise I have no complaints with all you can eat that includes seafood :)

Michelle S.

Yelp
This is my first time trying thai hot pot and it was SOOO good! Came on a Saturday for dinner with a party of 6 and there was no wait. AYCE for $35 per person with a 90-minute limit. The soup and sauce here are AMAZING!!! I wish I can buy the sauce and bring it home so I can dip everything with it. For soup, we ordered the chicken broth, tom zap and jaew hon. My favorite was the jaew hon, it is SOO good! The meat here was ok, it was a bit hard to cook cause it was all stuck together. They also have a wide variety of veggies, some I don't usually see at other hot pot places. The garlic fried rice is a must try. Service was quick. I do notice that they tend to forget a thing or two when bringing out the food so you will have to ask for it but overall good service. This place is cash only.

Viona C.

Yelp
A solid 3.5. The options, flavors and service was good, but I don't really think I would crave this as much or often as other hotpot joints. Its AYCE and pretty reasonably price; I did see that the price has gone up over $10 the past years, but inflation There's a container with papers to order on your table and you can order as much as you want for a fixed price. First, you choose two broth flavors. The broth flavors are definitely want makes this spot a lot more distinctive compared to other Asian hotpot places you see in NYC. I highly recommend the Tom zap broth if you enjoy lemongrass! It was my by far my favorite broth and I'd probs go back here solely for that broth. We also ordered the bean curd broth, which honestly wasn't as enjoyable for our group. It's a little on the sweeter side and fermented, so it's def an acquired taste and I didn't really think it paired well with most of our food selection; although, it does go pretty well with the vegetables. I also really enjoyed the vegetable selection here! Not a lot of places offer morning glory for hotpot, but they did as well as a plethora of other vegetables like bokchoy and Napa cabbage. The meat selection was adequate; it has all the main ones you would normally want for hotpot. They also provide you with three sauces to pair with your hotpot. They all have a kick to it but they're pretty good. One of them appears to be fish sauce based and that one def packs the most heat. Service is good. They didn't rush us and they were also pretty attentive. Granted the restaurant is small, but they were always conveniently nearby when we needed something or wanted to place an order. Would still recommend checking this place out if you wanted to try more hotpot variations.

Christopher C.

Yelp
Been here a few times over the past few years and it had decent food for a decent price. But my last visit I feel like I was being scammed. They added a service fee of 22% that we never seen before in our previous visits. No mention of it to us or any signs indicating the new service fee. We had large party in the past with 8 people and never had this mandatory service fee. If you look at the receipt I posted it shows a service charge sneaked in there of about 22% and then that was taxed. Normally tip is not taxed and I doubt they actually pay the tax since it is cash only. And on top of that they have tip suggestions under it so if someone wasn't paying attention they would've paid another 20% of the subtotal + service fee + tax. Can't think of any other scummy way they can squeeze anymore money out of their customers. I won't be coming back here ever again with the way they run their business. Bunch of con artists running a restaurant.

Christopher N.

Yelp
First experience with hot pot ever and I loved it! Wow were both of those soups flavorful and tasty. The Tom Zap is very spicy so if you can't handle spice I'd watch out! The pink bean curd soup was also very good. It had an interesting sort of sweet and savory flavor that I enjoyed very much! Loved the variety of mushrooms and the meats! Ended up ordering way more meat than I expected so if you're a first timer I'd recommend just asking for 1 of each thing you'd like if you're eating with one other person. Kinda wish I had more fish balls because they were so good, but I definitely expect there to be a "next time"!

Kelly L.

Yelp
This place gives off an authentic Thai vibe. I love hotpot but had never tried Thai hotpot so went with an open-mind and curiosity. I ordered the clear broth and Tom Zap for 2 soup choices. The Tom Zap is the spicier choice but it has a very clean spicy flavor and what seems to be a lot of ginger added to the broth. My absolute recommendation is the garlic rice. It's so flavorful! Make sure to leave some room for this rice on top of the main hotpot. The hotpot ingredients are similar to Chinese hotpot and it's all you can eat so be ready to eat generous portions of everything. Generally, my favorite hotpot ingredient is tofu skin but the one they served here was a bit too chewy and tough compared to the soft tofu skins I've tried - keeping it in the boiling broth for a while didn't help either.

Uyen N.

Yelp
Usually ayce hot pot places are Chinese hot pot, but this one is Thai. The broth here is really good, especially the Yen Ta Fo (chinese beancurd) one. It's a little sour and well-seasoned. Their garlic fried rice is also delicious! The place is located on 2nd floor, is pretty small (if you have a big party, your party might be separated to 2 tables), and takes cash only.

Jacky C.

Yelp
An "All You Can Eat" hotpot with a Thai twist? Count me in! They have recently jacked the price to $35 per person (thanks inflation), but it's still a pretty damn good deal. Great for coming with a group of friends. Funny the best item on the menu is not hot pot related: Garlic Fried Rice. I literally could have 6-8 bowls of this and call it a meal. They allow you to choose two soup bases, which we opted for Clear Soup and Tom Zap. They are generous with the portions of meat and veggies you pick for the hot pot. There's not a sauce station, but they give you three different sauces ranging from sweet to spicy. Other's things to note: CASH ONLY. There's a 90 minute limit, but it's loosely enforced, until all the tables are filled and they start looking for higher table turnovers. The shop is located on the 2nd floor, so don't make the mistake like we did and walk into a different Thai restaurant on the first floor.

Jami H.

Yelp
On a hunt for the best AYCE hotpot NYC has to offer, I stumbled across a Strictly Dumpling video on YouTube in which he visited this spot. I've never had Thai hotpot before and off his descriptions of the sauces alone I knew I had to try Jaew Hon asap!!!! Came around 8:30pm on a Tuesday night and got seated immediately despite how small of a restaurant it is. We ordered the sliced beef, marinated beef, marinated pork, bok choy, tofu skin, eggs, quail eggs, enoki mushroom and garlic fried rice. While I didn't love the marinated beef, everything else was so good! Especially the sliced beef. And as expected the sauces were amazing - my favorite was the middle one because it was nice and spicy. In addition to the food, the service was impeccable. Our waiter checked in often and was very friendly. Be warned this spot is cash only but there's a deli across the street if you need an ATM.

Nick J.

Yelp
Food was amazing! It has a very welcoming vibe and the decorations are really cool. My favorite had to be the seasoned pork and the garlic rice was delicious! Also had my first Thai Beer and now I'm hooked! Highly recommend!

Sooji H.

Yelp
Been here about 4 times and this made me love Thai styled hot pot. Nothing better than all you can eat. Prices went up. It is now $30/person with a 90 minute limit. choices of sauces all have some level of spice. Spicy/sweet, spicy/tangy, etc. You are writing the how much food you want on a piece of paper (1,2,3,4) for certain things, they do take the number you wrote down literally.... If you write 1 fish tofu...expect just ONE. Some veggies are seasonal so make sure you ask if they have it. A lot of people like their garlic fried rice! It's a hit or miss in my opinion. Some days are real good and some days are too sweet. I do realize that the servers always forget at least 1-2 things on your paper. You find out they didn't give it to you once you place your second order. I'm not sure if they're doing it on purpose because I find expensive veggies or other foods not being served unless you bring it to their attention. This is what I have noticed after being here a few times. Also, most servers are very quiet and speak in a low voice. I wouldn't say they are quite welcoming. When we left, we said goodnight and thank you and all the servers were standing by the cashier and didn't say a word or smiled. Despite that, I do thoroughly enjoy the food and sauces here.

Susan H.

Yelp
Although it was a bit pricier for the limited selections on the menu. I liked that the sauces were already prepared. Everything was tasty and drinks were good too. The service was fast and server is friendly.

Rachel H.

Yelp
Went there to eat by myself because I was really craving for some hotpot and wasn't disappointed! They only accept cash so make sure you have cash before going.

Vera L.

Yelp
It is tiny. You wouldn't even think there was a restaurant here because it is UPSTAIRS. But this is by far probably my most favorite hot pot in NYC. I've tried almost all of them in both Flushing and in Manhattan. But this takes the cake. I would highly recommend the AYCE option and going for it. Most favorite thing: Garlic fried rice PROS - addicting. I know it doesn't sound good but it's SO GOOD. And I'm a noodles girl! - good flavor - not overly salty - not greasy! CONS: - not enough! We had to order two rounds of it. Service was great. Their dipping sauces have three different flavors. It's definitely got that great authentic Thai taste, good amount of heat if not killer heat level (this can be moderated upon request). I like how they send the items out in small portions because honestly, given how much of the world is on food shortages or starvation, we really shouldn't be wasting food (regardless if it is AYCE...and it's AYCE, not all you can purchase to waste!). There is a time limit which is totally understandable. I would say 1.5 hours for a decent size party is good enough, especially if you're hungry. I made it all the way out here from FiDi and it was well worth the 45min train ride to Jackson Heights!

Robin Y.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best hot pot in NYC?!? Came with a party of 3 on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. Tried to call ahead for reservations as per Yelp reviewers that recommended, but was informed they don't take reservations. This place is small and cozy - perfect for a cold night. We had the chicken broth and Tom zap broth (think beef broth with lemongrass, galangal, heavy on the herbs and really good for cutting through the fatty meat). Both broths were delicious! As for the selection, you can pick from a wide variety and everything was super fresh. We had beef, fish balls, seafood, noodles, etc. don't forget their garlic fried rice!! Definitely one of the highlights. All 3 of us really enjoyed our experience here due to the freshness of the meats, veggies, and seafood, and the broth! Something about this place feels homier and more delicious than a lot of the other bigger chain hot pot restaurants I've been to. At only $28, this is a steal! Heads up thay this place is cash only :)

Yelp
While it's true there is no shortage of all you can eat hot pot places in NYC, it's also true that an overwhelming majority of them are Chinese based. (#1) Jaew Hon offers a little something different in the form of Thai cuisine inspired ingredients, and is just a stone's throw away from the most Thai area of Queens (#2). And the best part? It's pretty good. The interior of the restaurant is like many others along this section of Roosevelt Ave: small'ish and narrow. Yet in spite of it all, Jaew Hon makes the most of their space and is able to sit up to a couple dozen folks at any given time. The decor is funky and eclectic, with dividers in between some tables for added safety. While it's not always a given, I love it when Thai pop music is playing in the background. (#3) The Thai hotpot experience here is usually done with two broths at the same time, similar to the yin-yang style that most Chinese hot pot goers know well. The clear soup (chicken based) and the classic beef / pork jaew hon broth base are my usual choices, but I'm never one to say no to the tom zap (also beef / pork) option as well. There are a myriad of food choices, but the ones I appreciate the most are the marinated choice, which include all the proteins but the minced fish wins my vote. I am never one to deny a little organ meat (liver, kidney, etc.) but I do think the clam / squid / shrimp options are better in the clear chicken broth. A little morning glory, Thai basil, and dill are fun choices on the greens front. The AYCE price will set one back about $30, which is a steep increase from the $18 what I remembered during their opening just a handful of years ago. Service has always been pretty good, before and after the pandemic. They've managed to become one of the neighborhood's most popular options and I hope it stays that way. ____________ (#1) Yes, even the ones that are "Shabu" (#2) Woodside, stand up. (#3) More Ploychompoo (Jannine Weigel) please: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2yvEJdQKuo

Nichakorn C.

Yelp
It was very gooddddd!! One of the authentic Thai hotpot in USA. Meat was very fresh. Soup and sauce was just like in Thailand. They take cash only.

Kimmy U.

Yelp
$30 for ayce thai hot pot! (but increasing to $35 starting 5/1/22!!) For $30, this is a great value! They start you off with a paper menu that you mark how many of each item you want. You can choose 2 soup bases for the whole table, because there's only 1 pot for everyone. Be careful with how many items you choose though, because they will charge for food waste! Thai hot pot has different flavors than other hot pot places I've been to - a little bit sour and spicy (similar to tom yum soup flavs). They also provide 3 different sauces, so you don't have to make your own. There's so many options to choose from - all different kinds of meats, seafood, veggies/mushrooms/tofu, fish cake/balls, and noodles. Don't sleep on the GARLIC FRIED RICE! highly recommend They also have a pretty big assortment of drinks other than just plain soda, like slushies/smoothies, and iced teas. I'm definitely down to come back, but the price increase is kinda ehh **CASH ONLY and no outside drinks, so don't go to the downstairs boba spot right before

Yelp
Tried here twice cuz we really like the idea of unlimited Thai style hot pot. There's two spicy Thai hot pot bases they kinda tasted pretty similar. The three dipping were all spicy at different levels. However the sliced fatty beef has a bit too much fat. Overall the quality is not bad for its price and there's a lot of options! Def try their garlic rice! They also have Thai beer, and I heard their nonalcoholic drinks are pretty good too.

Yelp
Definitely won't be coming back. Terrible service. After not being checked on, having to flag somebody for assistance to get anything (and yes, there was plenty of staff in the small dining area), I still felt that it would be kind to leave 20% (pre-tax). Here's where it gets funny- As we got up and started walking out, the staff member that took our payment stood in our way of exit and BLOCKED us from leaving, all in front of other guests, until we paid more tip. She had circled the receipt with the total after tax, and said that we have to pay at least 20% of the total after tax. The treatment was as if we didn't pay for the bill, and she wouldn't let us leave until we did. The friend I went to eat with gave the woman another $5 to get her out of our way so we could exit and not cause a scene, when we really should have taken all of the tip back for this rude action. Is this how customers should be treated? I see other reviews with the same complaint and can't help but wonder... how much cash did they swindle out of people by doing this over the years?

Yelp
There's no hospitality but the unprofessional service has shocked me that why ppl is still rating 4.5 ? Unbelievable.... Worst service ever.

Yelp
The ambience is very welcoming and very well decorated. The food is amazing. And the service is spectacular.

Yelp
If you're looking for an AYCE hot pot with a twist this is a good option to try. This Thai hot pot shines with the broth and the sauces. The Tom zap broth has good flavors, but has a sour kick. There's no sauce bar here, but they give you 3 different sauces to dip your meat in. The meat here was ok, but the vegetables were really fresh. Again it's 30$ and all you can eat. Supposedly there's a 90 minute time limit but it wasn't really enforced. The Thai ice tea was solid and only 3$. Not the best but for 3$ it's a good deal. This is a great option to try if looking for something different than your typical hot pot. Definitely get the garlic fried rice!!

Yelp
Used to live around the neighbor so wanted to give it a try. Not many food selections and meat not very fresh.

Yelp
On a gloomy cloudy cold Friday - my husband and I decided it's time to warm our souls up with some good hotpot. Searching through the depths of Yelp we found our two favorite cuisines put together! Thai and Hot Pot! The servers were very welcoming - we got started right away. Chose the two broths, vegetarian broth and the Tom Yum broth. We chose to have a few of the seafood options as well the veggies. The seafood was fresh and tasted great with the broth and some additional sauces. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that their service would wane where sometimes they would be missed and you'd wait for a while. Overall I would suggest in having a plain broth so we can up and down the flavoring. Other than that / this was a lovely place to eat on a cloud gloomy day.

Yelp
It was an extremely cold day so I was craving hotpot and found JH. I really enjoyed the sauces and the soups. I appreciated the Thai fusion. I usually get spicy soups at the Chinese hotpot places and would take out the peppercorns. Here, I didn't need to do that. The JH broth was spicy and so were the sauces provided. I like spice. The hotpot itself is $30. I ordered a Thai iced coffee and plum juice, both were $3. The plum juice didn't taste like any plum juice that I've had before. It was too sour for me. The Thai iced coffee was good. The portion sizes are pretty good. I usually need to order 2 or more of something at ayce places. Here, I only needed 1. I had to force myself to finish as to not incur the waste cost of $5. The beef was fatty and melted in my mouth. There were a few misses. I didn't get my broth until about 15 minutes in and when you're being timed, every second counts. I wasn't told until my time was over that my time was over. I think it would be a good idea for the staff to remind the customers of the fee when ordering and remind them 10 or so minutes before their time was up. I was enjoying the food, not looking at the time. A big minus was the temperature in the establishment. I believe that the windows were allowed a draft so that fresh air can get through the restaurant but I was trying my best to stay warm with the soup. It was just too cold. Maybe there should also be heaters. So essentially one of my reasons for going was a bust because I never got as warm as I wanted to. I would come back here in the spring to try again.

Yelp
Came here in Oct 2022, my first visit here post-pandemic. Happy to report that the quality at Jaew Hon remains top notch! We had a split pot with half chicken broth and half tom yum broth. The garlic fried rice remains a must-have, as well as the prawns, clams, pork belly, and stuffed fish balls. This place is the perfect comfort food to enjoy with friends when it gets cold out. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Hot Pot - If I were forced to eat only one type of cuisine for the rest of my life, it would be hotpot. Particularly AYCE. Now, I'm familiar with the catchall Chinese hotpot joints that are popular and mainstream, I'm familiar with Japanese Shabu Shabu which probably paved the way to the modern hot pot restaurant model. So imagine my surprise and wonder when I discovered this little gem of Thai hotpot. What would be the alternative cuisine I would eat for the rest of my life if I were so forced? I'm glad you asked. It's Thai. Do you see where I am going with this? I bolted over that very night upon this discovery that was certainly the right choice. The business model is very familiar. You order meat and vegetables and the staff bring them to you. The ingredient choices are similar to those at mainstream hotpot establishments. Where the Thai part shines is in the soup base and the sauces they provide. They are decidedly different and very good. The bad The only downside is that the sauce options are limited. I am accustomed to a sauce station wherein I can switch up my choices mid-meal. I think if they provided a peanut butter based sauce (think Thai summer roll accompaniment) this meal would be out of this world.

Yelp
Though I haven't been here in a while, when they first opened I pretty much visited as much as I could to the point where it became an obsession. Location is a bit inconspicuous and is up a stairway on top of another restaurant. Broth selection is a bit limited but what they do have has variety, I prefer the pork blood broth. There is a good array of veggies to choose from and it is self serve. Sauces are served as well as the meat. It is not AYCE but prices are affordable. Beer and drink selection is great. Friendly staff. Just lots of good things to say. I absolutely love this place. Come here! Won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The service attitude is very poor, and I will not come again. Don't go through these bad service attitudes everyone don't go anymore This kind of service attitude can still open a store, I don't understand

Yelp
For quite some time I've been telling my boyfriend that I've wanted to experience going to a hot pot restaurant. Chinatown is a bit out of the way and in Astoria there were no options. The restaurant is up a flight of stairs, keep in mind you're going there for the food, not the decor and aesthetics. All you can eat hot pot! How haven't I experienced this? $30 per person. We had the chicken broth and mushroom broth since we can't handle any spice. The first broth we originally had was too spicy and the waitress accommodated us by swapping it out. Our veggie choices were the oyster mushrooms, baby bok choy and enoki mushrooms. The stars were the meats, we had marinated beef, pork belly, marinated pork, and shrimp. The restaurant only serves beer and & wine. I'm looking forward to returning, next time I'll have to check the fried rice everyone is raving about.

Yelp
Reminded me authentic hot pot in Thailand. Sauces were outstanding. Warning they are spicy. They have variety of meat and vegetables. We can also order food from the restaurant Playground which located downstairs.

Yelp
A cute little hot pot place in elmhurst! The meats are so fresh and given in huge portion. Their service is great. I like the soup, it's sour and spicy, very Thai and very special. Love it. Recommend.

Yelp
First off, please be aware that this is a cash only establishment. A small hotpot joint on a 2nd floor with unique decors. Their services are pretty good and quick. For AYCE, food is pretty fresh and there are decent variety of ingredients for their price point. I was surprised that the shrimps were bouncy. We frequent Chinese hotpot a lot, and the difference are the soup base and sauces. It was nice for a change and I am glad that we tried this. I do highly recommend the garlic fried rice! I know rice fill you up BUT it's so flavorful that I ate the whole bowl! :D

Yelp
Went a little after they opened so it wasn't super busy, really quick service. Got the pork blood broth as well as the other signature one in beef, the pork blood one is delicious but spicy!! Had your typical fish balls, meat and veggies. My favorite was the seafood section with the shrimp, clams, and squid. Also recommend the watercress and thinly sliced beef. We also got the pork but it was kind of lean and dry.
