Jaffna Railway Station

Jaffna Railway Station is a convenient and well-maintained station for travelers heading to or from Jaffna. We took the Night Mail train, but honestly, it’s not recommended—the seats were uncomfortable, and the journey took too long. If comfort and time matter, the Balloon Bus is a much better option. We arrived early in the morning, and having a restroom available was really helpful. We could freshen up with a face wash and use the toilet, which, while not luxurious, was clean and usable. There’s also a canteen for a quick meal or tea. One of the most interesting things about the station is that they offer super cheap rooms on the upper floor—a great option for budget travelers who need a place to rest for a few hours. Overall, Jaffna Railway Station is well-maintained and provides the basics needed for travelers, but the train journey itself might not be the best experience.

After the war, Jaffna Railway Station has been constructed beautifully. We visited a few years back and were impressed with the cleanliness and the overall condition of the station. The train service from Colombo to Jaffna is excellent, making travel convenient and comfortable. The station is well-maintained, and the journey itself is scenic and enjoyable.
