¡Jaime! Taqueria - All Service, No Seasoning!
I had high expectations for ¡Jaime! Taqueria, partly because we share a name and partly due to the hype. While the ambience is "upscale taqueria" with a nice bar and a nice patio, the music was a bit too loud for comfort or to have a conversation.
The staff saved the experience. They were attentive and kind--especially helpful since my dining guest was 55 minutes late. Unfortunately, the service is the only reason this place gets any stars, because the food was beyond mediocre.
The food was a series of disappointments, starting with the $9 "Happy Hour" guacamole, which was a textbook case of shrinkflation--a tiny, sample-sized portion that completely lacked seasoning. The drinks didn't fare much better, as the $9 Pepino Aqua Fresca was aggressively sweet, though my guest did enjoy her $18 mojito. As for the main event, the $22 Carnitas Tacos were remarkably bland, served on tortillas that felt chewy and cardboard-like. Altogether, the meal felt like a pricey, fast-casual imitation of Mexican food that simply didn't justify the cost.
At these prices, the value just isn't there. You can get a Michelin-level meal at Holbox or authentic, flavorful gems at Sonoratown, Leo's, or Taco Social for a fraction of the cost. Save your money.
Skip the ¡Jaime! name and hit your local truck or street stand instead.
