I've known about Jaiya since I was maybe 10 years old, because they used to have a restaurant in Long Island! They then relocated to the city, and I was reunited with it when I started going to school in the city. The one rule to remember at Jaiya, is that spicy means SPICY. I once got their basil chicken lunch special, medium, and cried throughout my whole meal. It was my own fault, but it was still delicious.
Jaiya's Tom Yum soup is to die for. It easily feeds 3 people so keep that in mind. It tastes best with shrimp.
The best dish at Jaiya is their king crab with special sauce. Their special sauce is this sweet, spicy, tangy, basil kind of sauce that is only found at Jaiya. If you're coming here for the first time, get whatever you prefer, in special sauce.
Eating the crab is fairly expensive, and hard to eat. You have to work for your food and crack the shell and what not, and the crab doesn't always have a lot of meat (or at least not as much as I'd like). The shrimp in special sauce is the second best at Jaiya, and then the beef. It's easier to eat the beef because you don't have to pick the shrimp shells. You can get extra sauce on your entree for an additional fee- that's how you know this stuff is good.
My only issue with Jaiya, overall, is that it's overpriced for thai food especially in this area. I understand the special sauce costs more, but in general their basic foods are more expensive than most. If you're not coming for the special sauce or tom yum, I suggest going somewhere else because it is more pricey here.
