What can I say about Jake's Roadhouse that hasn't already been said in the myriad reviews that precede mine? Perhaps nothing at all; nevertheless, I'll add my voice to the culinary chorus.
Aptly named, Jake's features a cool, Route 66 roadhouse aesthetic, complete with old metal signs and license plates that adorn the walls. One need not stretch the imagination to picture Jake and Elwood Blues knocking out a soulful rendition of the theme from Rawhide as diners gnosh away. Don't get too excited, however. There is neither a stage nor live performances at Jake's, and honestly, I'm glad. It's nice to be able to actually hear what one's server is saying, and vice versa.
Speaking of servers and service, both are outstanding. I've been coming to Jake's for years now, at least ten years, and I see many of the same servers and bud staff year in and year out. Servers remember us, and they often inquire after family members who may not be with us on a given visit. It feels good to be remembered, but they don't just remember their customers. They treat customers as valued guests, making sure their coffees stay full and hot (for those of us into hot coffee) and their food comes out swiftly.
Naturally, the food is terrific. Portions are large, and there is a wide selection with something delicious for every palate. I'm a breakfast guy myself, so I generally go for that. The Jake's Country Breakfast is amazing! If you are exceptionally hungry, be sure to get it. The Texas spicy sausage is actually spicy, so I recommend it if you like spicy food. Whatever you order, if it's an option (it is!) try the lemon raspberry pancakes. They are divine! Today I wasn't as hungry, so I got the Godfather Omelet. I loved it. On the rare occasion that I'm not in the mood for breakfast (so rare) or I come in at night, I also enjoy Jake's sandwiches. I really like the Southwest Chicken Sandwich, as does my daughter.
Okay, so what do we do at Jake's? We arrive hungry, and we leave stuffed and happy. I look forward to seeing you there!
