The MICHELIN Guide Singapore Bib Gourmand 2024 Selection

"Newly moved from the MICHELIN Selected category to Bib Gourmand, this place has been in operation for over 70 years, serving aromatic dry prawn mee in sambal with heaps of fried scallion, adding depth; the soup version has a prawn broth loaded with natural umami." - The MICHELIN Guide

Breakfast Club: Our Picks for Early-Morning Prawn Mee

"There's a special kind of comfort that comes with a bowl of piping hot noodles in the morning. The sweet aromas of prawn and fried shallots permeate the air and morning is made." - Alethea Tan

No crowd when I came on Sunday morning before 10am, it’s like 10% occupied. Ordered the local recommended pork rib prawn noodle, I selected soup version. Inside the restaurant it’s clean and considered comfortable. On the table a container is provided for pran shell and bones, I found this very well organized. For tourist, beware that it’s not a common practice that the restaurant provide tissue paper or napkin so bring your own especially when you come to this kind of food place where potentially you use your finger to unshell the prawn. Outside the shop at the front entrance there is a big garbage bin when I walked passed i can smell the odor. I came from the back and left from the front, if I came from the front with this smell, it would probably affect my appetite. But from the back was much better as I saw crows bitting dead rat just right in front of me on the pedestrian path. The noodle taste average for me (for malaysian please don’t expect the same taste like our prawn noodle), the broth has some umami but can taste the sweetness was not from the bone or prawn but rather sugar or rock sugar. The broth is lacking the “spices kick” if to compare with prawn noodle from different countries in the region. The prawn texture was good, probably it’s boiled before putting into the noodle. The pork rib was tasteless and texture a bit too lean in my opinion, not recommended. Afterall if you haven’t tried Singapore prawn noodle, it’s ok to experience it but my suggestion just take the prawn noodle, pork rib is not necessary it’s not adding any positive element to the dish.

Google
Update on their prawn mee, ever since their michellin awarded last year the taste still taste the same very scrumptious. Very deep prawn flavor & peeled for you if order small. Their Pig tail especially delicious can't wait to go back 🫡

Google
> Fresh and firm prawns with a rich, flavourful soup that isn’t too heavy. Classic, satisfying bowl of prawn mee — portions a little small but taste makes up for it. Chilli wise, not quite the level I like n prefer. Less crowded as I came on a Sunday afternoon.

That umami-heaven of a prawn broth is what customers would come here for - rich and full of depth and prawn flavour, there are options to have noodles and bee hoon served in it or prepared dry with a mild chili sauce. Both soup and dry versions are garnished with fried shallots, bits of pork lard, crunchy bean sprouts and some kang kong vegetables. A variety of protein combinations and sizes can be opted for, whether it is only with prawns, mixed with pork ribs, or the more premium Sultan prawns that are larger, meatier, and sweeter than the regular ones. Some of the Sultan prawns also had trails of orange roe in the tails, which has a taste similar to the prawn butter in the heads. 🦐 Further back into the open-air restaurant, one would find a booth selling ngoh hiang prawn crackers by Hock Lian Huat. A variety of ingredients can be chosen, then fried, cut, and served with sweet and savoury dips. Drinks are also available beside the noodle ordering counter. Special thanks to the uncle from the service crew who watched over the food at our table when we were ordering other items, preventing hungry birds from stealing our prized prawns.

Like the rating and most said. It’s a hit or miss. Used to be so good but these days the sauce lack punch as old times. The soup I don’t feel I need another bowl not so powerful anymore. The prawn is fresh and pork ribs. Soft. The WuXing is a disappointment. So you expensive and yet give u so little dip So little it is pathetic and sad. Like beggar have to ask over and over again. Since we have that much pieces to dip why give so small sauce dish. My gosh. For that the place lose one star

Google
Not sure how they’re still maintaining their reputation. The broth lacked depth and umami, the pork lard — although freshly made — was already soft and disappointing, and the service attitude from the ordering auntie was poor. For $8, this was honestly not worth it. Pretty underwhelming overall.

Google
Not a fan of prawn noodles but I think is a quite good as it has alot of flavor and the prawn used was fresh. Like it when it is served hot. Understand this place has been around for at least 30 to 40 years. $8

This restaurant is within walking distance of Kallang MRT. Once you spot Jalan Ayer, look for the distinct restaurant at corner shophouse. The prawns 🦐 offered here are large ($10 or $15) or regular smaller ones ($6 or $8). The soup is savoury and tastes of rich prawn. However the prawn meat is the same as Beach Road East Coast restaurant (lacking certain prawn 🦐 taste and the springy taste of succulent prawn. Anyway it is a nice place to visit. The soup is delicious and rich.

Yelp
Super fast and super delicious. To be honest, my appetite was just recovering from some earlier issues, but the prawn mee soup was amazing and so good that I had to go back for seconds. There is some degree of customization with what type of noodle you want. You can also get beef ribs added to your bowl, and they were quite tender and meaty. I highly recommend just getting all of it. This place does get busy really fast as soon as rush hour hits. There is also a little booth next to it that sells an assortment of fried goods that serve as a great side dish/appetizer for the soup. The seating area is basically outdoors and there is plenty of space. I don't know when is the next time I'll be visiting Singapore, but I would definitely want to come back here.

Yelp
The sultan prawn noodle with the jumbo prawn was sooo good! Love the prawn broth soup also. The platter with all different kind of fried stuff was so good also! Love this place! I wish they have AC, that would be so perfect.

Yelp
Love the prawn noodles here. The soup version is much better than the dry version as the prawn soup here is awesome. We like that it is not too oily and has that great seafood broth taste. Very sweet! Love the bee-hoon-mee combination. The standard combination of ngo hiang is great to go with the prawn noodles. The ngo hiang is not the best out there, but it's a great side dish to share among when you are there. Service is swift and quick. I guess the broth is all ready and just need to be poured over the noodles. Opening hours are from 8am to 3.30pm. So it can get really hot here in the mid-afternoon humidity. Ice cold barley or lime juice is great with the noodles. They are closed on tuesdays.

Yelp
Some of the best prawn mee soup in sg. I have been a fan of Jln Sultan hae mee soup since the 1970s! The place can be hot and stuffy though. I find it is better to go before the lunch rush as it can get crowded. This and the beach rd hae mee soup are the 2 favourite places for me to indulge in this dish!

Yelp
Flavour city. Sauce and soup is great, not overdone. Prawns are fresh. Noodles are done perfectly. Parking is limited. They are open until 3:30 but frequently sell out by 2:30.

Yelp
Its very common for shops to have names when they're nowhere near the supposed location and Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee is one of them. Introduced by a friend who found out I enjoyed everything prawn related, the stall is conveniently located near Kallang MRT and is just a short 3min walk away. It gets packed during lunch really quickly so be prepared to wait or visit after the peak hours to be safe and if you don't like to wait. Service there is swift and curt, with no room for small talk. The prawns are decently large and full of flavor and the prices are much, much cheaper compared to other more 'famous' places.
