Jalebi Street - Review - Haight - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Jalebi Street does vegetarian Indian staples in the Haight, with a big chaat selection and a few curries. Expect dishes like pani puri, samosas, and paneer butter masala, plus, of course, jalebi for dessert. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Google
We experienced one of the authentic tasting north Indian chats out here that’s closer to what you will eat in Delhi. We tried 4-5 items and all of them tasted very good. Plus presentation is also at par. Jalebi at the end worked as cherry on the top. Service has some room to improve. Ambience is bit rustic and matches the Haight district but can be better.

Nabila K.

Google
The dahi puri and samosa chaat were really good. The gulab jamuns were tasty but I’ve had better in SF. Mango Lassis were also really good. Everything else was just OK. We tried the saag paneer, Kashmiri kofta curry and laacha parathas. While they were good, the portion sizes felt small. The service was very chaotic as we had to ask for water multiple times.

Ashwin M.

Google
Phenomenal North Indian joint in the Indian food desert of the Haight neighborhood. Everything we ordered was top notch. The channa batura was as authentic as it gets. The chaat was tangy and spicy as God intended it to be. The hot jalebis were icing on the cake and they lived up their eponymous expectations! The chai was the only loose tooth and left me desiring for more. Go here and it's worth the wait.

Sushmita S.

Google
Amazing North Indian street food in the heart of SF! We went on a Friday evening and it was very packed and lively, with a constant supply of fluffy bhaturas (deep fried flatbread) and jalebis (crispy dessert) being served everywhere. The restaurant was slightly understaffed because of how busy it was but the server was very efficient in getting walkins on the waitlist, seating, and taking our order. Raj kachori - probably the best chaat item, very fresh and crisp Dahi puri - standard Delhi style Chhole bhature - pretty good, not greasy Jalebi - fresh, made to order, we loved this best. The quantity is lesser than similar places in South Bay, but overall a very good chaat place for SF / Peninsula.

Akshay B.

Google
Chole bhature was good. The laccha paratha nice and crispy with good layers. The garlic naan was a little doughy Daal makhani and palak paneer were both good. Not too oily and no heavy whipped cream. Jalebi and rabrdi were ok. Overall a little expensive for home style food.

Google
Yoooo found THE SPOT for CHOLE BHATURE!! Kinda hard to get seated and they don't do online reservations and their service seems quite chaotic for some reason. It's usually pretty busy I find but the food is good. Would come back regularly for the chole bhature!!

Himani P.

Google
We got chhole and pav bhaji. I found the spices and oils were not over the top which is amazing. Bedmi poori with chhole was not oily at all but at the same it it was soft and tasty. Felt like when mom makes something restraunt style. Dahi puri chat was also nice.

Achal R.

Google
Great Indian restaurant with delicious food and warm hospitality. The flavors were authentic, portions generous, and service quick. Definitely worth visiting!

Yelp
Visited downtown SF with family and this place really hit the spot after some sightseeing. It was packed but luckily a reservation got us a table fast. They were super busy and it took some time to place the order and get the food. But it was worth the wait. One of the best Chana Bathura I've had in the US. Dahi puri was really good and the jilebi was the highlight. It was priced reasonably for SF as well. If they can speed up the service it would be the cherry on top. Recommend this spot especially since it's pure vegetarian and they were able to have dishes with no garlic for my parents as well.

Yelp
This place has been on my radar. A friend had tried this place and told me it was legit so I had to try it too. I haven't eaten Indian snacks and street foods before but I love trying different foods and happen to be in the area. I walked in and was immediately seated. The restaurant wasn't too busy so I was able to order without much delay. I ordered the Dahl Sev Puri, Onion Kachori, and Jalebi. The Dahl Sev Puri was my favorite. The cool yogurt topped crispy Puri stuffed with flavorful potatoes and chickpeas, and drizzled with their spicy sweet tamarind and cilantro mint sauces was truly a symphony of flavors and textures in my mouth. I was taken aback, surprised and marveled at the flavors as it transitioned with each chew. It was sweet, spicy, and oh so tantalizing with each bite. This is a must get. I had to order the Jalebi, as it's the store's name. The crispy flat spirals were fried then soaked in saffron syrup, which gave it a mild honey-like scent. It was served warm-hot. The texture of the spirals reminds me of phyllo dough, that delicate crispy/flaky texture, but Jalebi is not actually flaky. With each bite, golden beads of syrup dribbles from the sweet treat. It was sweet and delicious. Perfect for those with sweet tooths. The Onion Kachori reminds me of samosas, just without the potatoes stuffing. It was served piping hot with a side of the cilantro mint and spicy tamarind sauce. The interior was mostly hollow, with a lining of minced onions and spices. It was finger food sized and tasty. Overall, had a great experience trying these street food snacks. It is on the pricer side for the portion size but the quality and flavor is there. Highly recommended trying this place. I will be back for the Dahl Sev Puri.

Yelp
A great option for Indian street food in SF! It's located in Haight which is pretty central to the city. This place is new and focuses on light bites from India, though they offer entrees as well. There is plenty of seating inside, and it seems pretty easy to get a table as we were greeted promptly. 4/5 Sev Puri was solid and really good quality, but lacked some flavor as I would generally prefer more chutney in the dish as it felt pretty dry. 4/5 Bhel puri was the same story as the Sev Puri, dry and could have used more chutney. But it was nice and crunchy. 5/5 Raj Kachori was really nice, dahi is their strong suite, so would recommend all their chaats with yogurt 4.5/5 Daal Kachori was solid, a little hard but not too oily and tasty. 6/5 Jalebi Rabri was phenomenal, I never had anything like it! The Jalebi itself was so nice and crispy and exactly how Jalebi should be. The Rabri was a nice touch, with a more watery consistency but adding some malai and cardamom flavor to the Jalebi. I felt like I didn't need it, but nervetheless good. Their quantity for the value is less than what you get from the South Bay counterparts, but it's fair considering it's the city. I would definitely stick to the chaats and the ones with yogurt, that seems to be what they are good at. But solid Indian spot for those who want their Chaat fix!

Yelp
We got their Chole Bhature, Dal Makhani with Tandoor Roti (butter), Kachori Chaat, and Jalebi. As Indians we loved the flavour. I like their Dal Makhani the best, it was sooooo good. The service was very nice, the ambiance was good too. Will visit again (Don't have any pictures, because we were too hungry)

Yelp
Rare find in San Francisco for Indian street food! They are also true vegetarian here so great for both vegans and vegetarians. The prices are a bit on the higher end for what you pay for in terms of portions, but all very flavorful. I wish that for dine in, the dishes would be presented on cookware and silverware instead of plastic and single-use. But, service was great and staff were warm towards us. The chef went out to greet us too, although that was close to when they first opened. I really enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. The paneer was just the right texture for me. Can taste the love and authenticity in the dishes. Great addition to Haight!

Yelp
We were excited to see an authentic Rajasthani snack shop open up in Haight Ashbury. The location is perfect and I think it fits right in to the hippie/Indic vibes of that street. We ordered the masala chai, the dahi sev puri, and the regular sev puri. This was the perfect afternoon pick me up treat that we were looking for. If you're unfamiliar with what "chaat" is or how to eat it, feel free to ask the staff for more details - they were very helpful with good recommendations.

Kedar V.

Yelp
Came here with some friends and tried an assortment of chaat dishes and mains, and everything was excellent. Hardly had room for jalebi at the end of the meal, but it was so fresh and worth it! Not much to say regarding ambiance, they've only been open for a month so hopefully they can continue to build out the restaurant with decor and real plates/glassware. Will be back soon!

Yelp
Wow, we were lucky to discover this new Indian vegetarian place that is set to open in the coming weeks. All the dishes are spot on when it comes to taste, flavour and texture! Their chaat times are so mouth watering and simply so original and authentic! The owners are very friendly and got to learn that they are vegetarians too! Explains the passion in setting up this restaurant :) I really really hope that their quality keeps up! Omg almost forgot the foot note on Jalebi - it's a must try, they are so thin and meticulously done!!!

Yelp
Jalebi Street on Haight is a gem. We had the kachori chaat, chole bhature, pav bhaji, bedmi aloo puri, kadai paneer, garlic naan, 2 orders of pani puri, and rabri jalebi ...everything was packed with flavor and beautifully done. I used to drive to Sunnyvale for their food truck, so I'm thrilled they're now in SF. The city's lucky to have them . Great food, great service, and even as a non-vegetarian, I loved every bite.

Onzali S.

Yelp
Okay ! I no longer miss food from South Bay! Everything was delicious including the service ! We in fact couldn't get in the previous evening and when we mentioned it, they made sure we get a table the next day ! The best Indian food place in SF by far !
google avatar

Jaime N.

Yelp
Samosa chaat and mango lassi were great. I like the toppings and the sweet and savoriness of the samosa. It does have a mild spicy kick to it, adding some extra pizazz. Nice, simple place to take a break or escape the elements.

Dana M.

Yelp
Great Pav Bhaji (the bhaji had great flavor),Pani Puri, Jeera Lassi, masala cola - would definitely go back. Make sure you have a reservation as the wait can be long. The chole bhature and aloo chaat were good but the first list was closer to epic compared to these.

Yelp
So yum and so friendly! This place is new (they still don't have their plates and silverware - being shipped from India), so much so that they're still serving on paper plates and disposable utensils. But! It's worth it. It's kind of fun to even have such personable staff who are just motivated to bring you back for repeat business and feel like you're supporting a new growing small business. The food is delicious - I was a big fan of the dev puri and the palak paneer and naan. I'd definitely go back to try more, and I can just imagine this place getting more and more beautiful as their decorations get shipped in.

Yelp
Very happy to have a new restaurant in the Haight. And a vegetarian one at that with lots of vegan options as well. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and always helpful to explain items if you're unfamiliar with anything. And the food is delicious! Also I saw one review mentioned the disposable plates, etc. That I'm happy to say has been changed and they now have real plates and utensils! Yippee I think they are still developing the look of the place but it's comfy as it is, informal as befits a place specializing in street food
google avatar

Nik G.

Yelp
Wow! This place is still setting up in front but the kitchen is already cooking up some of the best chaat (Indian snack foods) I've tasted in the bay area. The hosts were very welcoming and kind too. Menu looks to be all vegetarian with quite a few dishes also looking to be vegan. I got the samosa chaat and bhel puri. The samosa was rich and full of flavors and just the right amount of spicy heat. This was offset quite nicely by the bhel puri, a mix of puffed rice, other crunchy bits, diced onion and potato, mild spices, and a touch of chutney. Not cloyingly sweet like at many places. They also offer a good selection of fresh juices. I tried the apple/lemon/ginger and it was perfectly balanced, with a solid ginger kick but it didn't overwhelm the apple or lemon. I will be back!

Yelp
A pleasant and welcome change to the Indian food scene in San Francisco. I've never been able to find a reliable and tasty Chaat spot place and finally there is one with the plenty of space and plenty of vibes to go around. The couple that owns this restaurant are really nice and open the feedback on their menu. We had their Aloo Tiki, Aloo Poori, the chole bature (as a Punjabi, this is the first time I had one similar to my mom's cooking) and so many other dishes. Everything was so delicious that we could not stop. We tried their whole dessert menu (the Jalebi Rabri is a special standout). Indian food in SF is a tough scene and now Jalebi Street has started to fill it in with some quality.

Yelp
Incredible food, and a great menu with a variety of chaat, street food and other specialty dishes that are hard to come by at most Indian restaurants in San Francisco.
google avatar

Sahana A.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly service! Will definitely be back. :) Really enjoyed the dahi sev puri, dal makhani, and mango lassi.

Yelp
The absolute best samosas I've ever had! Nice and crispy on the outside and the filling was full of flavor. I loved the chutneys and achar which just added to every delicious bite!

Yelp
So I found myself right at Haight & Ashbury, a lil bummed cause the friend I was supposed to meet up with bailed last minute. So I needed to find a quick spot and found this gem! Food was excellent, service was super helpful and accommodating... though a little slow because they were so busy. Ambiance... well, nothing to write home about, but clean. I was just more impressed that this Indian fast casual spot had mostly Indian people inside. In the Haight! On a Wednesday! Anyways, samosas were lovely, the curry i had was super yummy (portion looked a little small but was quite filling!) and the garlic naan. Damn, I was so happy. I also had a mango lassi (originally ordered the salty milk drink with cumin... not a fan but i could see how people might like it-- they happily switched out my drink!). I only gave 4 stars bc I think this new business is still working out the kinks in servicing high volume of customers. I hope they stick around!

Ayush R.

Yelp
Food was decent but extremely slow service. We ordered Raj Kachori, Chole Bhature, Bedmi Aloo Sabji and Jalebi. They only served one dish at a time and then made us wait for good 20 min to get another dish. We were so done that we decided to cancel our order for Jalebi. Never expected it takes hours to prepare Jalebis. As a customer, I would never return back to this place given their exceptionally slow service.
google avatar

Aarthi M.

Yelp
Great service, spacious place, good vibes and DELICIOUS food! Jalebi - rabdi was heaven! Accidentally found this place as it was close to Cal Academy and we were hungry. We tried aloo tamatar subji, kadai paneer, paneer butter masala, a variety of parathas, rotis and puris, jeera rice, yogurt and chai. Everything was simple and tasty. Will definitely visit next time we are in that area.

Yelp
My wife is Indian and knows good Indian food, and this place is IT! Lovely owners, so very accommodating, and absolutely delicious fresh food! Such a delight to have in the Haight. The chole batura is incredible, as is the naan and paneer masala. Wish them all the best, and really looking forward to seeing this spot blossom (they're very new!)

Kinjal K.

Yelp
Rude staff- bad customer service, tasteless food, not worth the price. Owner needs to give staff professional training how to talk to customers.

N. A.

Yelp
Best Indian food in SF, if not in the Bay Area. Frankly one of the best indian restaurants I've ever been to. Was deeply skeptical as being native to the cuisine, the location in The Height, and the dismal track record of Indian food in the city. But absolutely blown away! High quality ingredients, freshly cooked, and rich depth in flavors. Already been three times in the past few weeks. Everything was delclicious so far. Special shout outs to their pani puri, samosa chaat, chole bhatura, aloo tamatar (maybe best thing we've eaten there!), and of course, their namesake, Jalebi (not too sweet is a huge plus!). Super nice folks. Have no personal connection, but couldn't be happier for their early success. And hope they can maintain quality as they scale with more demand
google avatar

Rima M.

Yelp
My favorite Indian restaurant in SF. Finally a chaat place worth praising. The selection is incredible and I adore the desserts. Please go support this incredible restaurant and happy eating!!

Roma J.

Yelp
Overpriced, poor service (only one server seems to be doing any work) and quite dirty! You're essentially paying Amber prices but for tiny portions and in a dingy "dhaba" setting with trash all over the floor. Also, the jalebis taste like chlorine

Yelp
MAKE THIS YOUR NEXT INDIAN SPOT TO TRY This is July 2025, so things will change when you read this. They moved into the old vegan burger, so allow them some grace as they get the decor together. The food is simply soul touching. As someone who grew up in Delhi and spent time in Mumbai, the food here scratches that itch which other Indian places can't. The vada pav even comes with a green chili. Lovely touch. It doesn't have to be a 1 to 1 of what you had in your childhood, but everything is just there. The flavours, the stretch of the bhatura, the band of the panic pyro and the freshness of the jalebi. Take your time eating here and pack some for when you get home, because you WILL want it the very next day. My words maybe grandeoise, but I desperately want this place to stay so I'm recommending this to absolutely everyone.

Darlene D.

Yelp
Delicious food and nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. Love this place, I've been several times now and it always hits

Andy S.

Yelp
Our first time visit was amazing! Excellent food and great service with a smile!!! Chole bhature and Jalebi - both items were fresh and tasty. Keep up the good work.

Saziya L.

Yelp
Great authentic food! My friends from Mumbai gave it 10/10, which is a great testament. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This place is fantastic and is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. The owner, Hans, was super gracious and welcoming. The chaat, chole bhature, and fresh squeezed juices were delicious. We will be coming back for sure!

Shivansh I.

Yelp
Food was amazing, and service was great too! Really felt like very authentic Indian food. Ordered a bunch of stuff: - pani puri - dahi sev puri - chole bhature - kachori - saag paneer - aloo poori - dal makhani - jalebi - rabri Everything was amazing and quick to come out. Really enjoyed the place and hope they stick around and do well.

Greg B.

Yelp
This was the most unique Indian food I've ever eaten, and the owner took the time to explain to me items on the menu that I asked about. They were great, and the food was a great value as well as very delicious.

Latte Queen W.

Yelp
Rounding up a bit. There are some service issues that need to be ironed out. The servers tried to take away plates while we are still eating, which caused us to feel rushed during our meal. There are several dishes that just fine, nothing to write home about, including the pav bhaji and daal tadka. However there are several dishes that are EXCELLENT. The chole bhatura is one of the most flavorful, spicy chole bhaturas I have ever had. The bhatura is soft and perfect. The milk cake is really a treat. Can't wait to order it again. The kachoris are all pretty good. They also serve a house made soda that is delicious. All in all, an absolutely fantastic addition to the neighborhood.

J. Delfina P.

Yelp
The food was so delicious and fresh ingredients! The menu is unique with Super tasty Chaat dishes and so much more. My Indian friend recommended it and endorses its authenticity. The service was so kind and attentive. The mango lassi was memorable .

Jiya K.

Yelp
Chole bhature, kachori, tea & dal makhani were amazing! Veg gem in the heart of SF! U shld visit!

Devin P.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. If you've ever thought "it's so hard to find good Indian food in San Francisco" ... this is the place!
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
This is by far the best Indian food I've had in SF! I will be a regular without a doubt - get the sev puri & pao bhaji - truly incredible!

Rasna B.

Yelp
We've eaten here twice now - once in the restaurant and once via delivery and both times the food was great. We got the dahi puri chaat, bedmi puri and aloo and jalebi. All were great and authentic. Bedmi puri and the aloo are rajasthani specialities that I've only seen at this restaurant

Sanjay C.

Yelp
The food was fabulous! It's a little like Vik's came to SF. We came during their soft opening, so they're still working out their operational processes. I see a bright future for Jalebi Street.

Sriharish P.

Yelp
Been waiting for a chaat place in SF this good. went with some friends and basically ordered the whole menu, everything was phenomenal

Kavi R.

Yelp
Such good fresh Indian street food hidden in the Haight area. Great customer service, passionate owners. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Paul T.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious authentic vegetarian Indian cuisine! Though brand new and still installing décor as of this writing, the kitchen is fully functioning, and super friendly hosts Bhawanaa and Sam are very welcoming, informative and eager to share their delicacies with San Francisco. Grand Opening is set for early May. We can't wait to go back at the earliest opportunity. Don't miss their namesake dessert, Jalebi. It's out of this world. Enjoy!

Saptarshi D.

Yelp
Excellent food. One of the best in SF. We will go there again. Service was good but little slow. It seems they are still trying to be more organized after opening the place in 45 days.

Richard G.

Yelp
So excited this place is open! Best Indian food in the city that I've had. The Sev Puri and Pao Bhaji are incredible. Worth a visit!

S G.

Yelp
We had a lovely meal here -- everything was delicious. The jalebi was a standout, we loved the chhole bhature; and the dahi papdi chaat. They accommodated us even though we got there around 15 mins before closing. Definitely go!

Kathleen M.

Yelp
A new favorite stop. Stopped in for some snacks and everything is so flavorful. The textures are great and food is very fresh. Very excited to come back for dinner / mains. A great addition to the Haight!!

Ron Goodwin R.

Yelp
This wonderful new Indian vegetarian restaurant is still in its soft opening. I was told their grand opening will be in late May. I tried samosas, dal makhani and garlic naan. Everything was so delicious. Dal is a good test of an Indian kitchen, and this dal was beautifully spiced and perfect with the garlic naan. I will return soon to try many of their dishes.
