Segundo Barrio’s menudo destination for decades, Jalisco Cafe is woven into neighborhood life—hosting community meals and marking World Menudo Day every New Year’s. Local news regularly spotlights its generosity and its weekend menudo tradition that keeps regulars lining up early.

Menudo. Pancakes. Beans. Rice. Chilaquiles. Super good Oh and the bread for the menudo they don’t skimp out on. And it’s not smashed like other places. Up there in how menudo should be for me. . Only down fall is weekends only. And it’s small inside so it can be crowded easy. Was not crowded when I went. But a wave of people was starting to come.

Best menudo in town! Add red chili 🌶️! Great atmosphere & very cheap

An Artist & A Kitchen

A Colonial treasure passing through the generations of good eats! Their signature, menudo has become a staple here. Proudly so, empty pots routinely enter through their front door existing with a slow cooked deliciousness of corn homonym and beef tripe. Topped and plated with fresh onion, cilantro , lime and homemade fresh bread. There is nothing fancy here but the flavors are historically calibrated with stove top tradition. Be patient with the table service, it’s worth the wait. Outstanding cheap good eats!

Their food is pretty good, my only complain is that they use stale bread when you get menudo. It doesn’t matter how much butter they put on it, it’s not good.

Up untill 5 years or so ago, the Menudo here had been better than most. Since then and up to today, the Menudo is probobly the most ive ever tasted. This is not an exaggeration and it's sad that what was once so good for so long is now so very bad.

I usually order green enchiladas but I had to try their red, they make them just how I like them. My boyfriend took me there for my first time. He’s been going forever. Loved the vibes it felt super cozy and the food was so good

The food was on point every time we go to El paso I have to have some breakfast especially menudo wow

I had menudo here back in 2016 on a visit. It was some of the best I've had. The atmosphere was great and it was full of happy customers. The music on Saturday morning was such a treat also. They're so nice and genuine, the allowed me to retrieve my notebook that I forgot way after hours. So very grateful and I SHALL return! 😉

Yelp
If you like the maiz to be all exploted and mushy, you would like this place . 1 small milk cup is 3.75 . I would recommend getting your menudo at village in

Yelp
When in Rome as they say... I had an itch for Menudo. Lots of folks sell Menudo, but not all folks sell GOOD Menudo. We considered a few places, the usual suapects, but then one popped up - this place. Fair warning. You are going to have to go to El Segundo barrio area, right by Bowie Bakery, and it's cool for us, but maybe not for you. Second, it's a cash only restaurant. Beyond that, it was worth the trip. It's a small little place that is defitnetly a neighborhood embedded favorite. They claim their Menudo is world famous. Now, I don't know about world famous but I do know freaking good. Also, try the burrito de Picadillo and Flautas de Carne desebrada. Very nice or as one would say in El Paso - a toda madre!

Yelp
Quirky little spot in the Segundo Barrio. Senator Shapleigh Special had huevos a la mexicana, beans, chile colorado, avocado and tortilla. Portion was small. Chile had tender meat and good flavor, but only had a couple pieces of meat and potatoes. Eggs had too much onion for my taste, Beans were a bit runny. Flour tortilla was freshly made and delicious. Avocado wasn't ripe. Overall the place was decent, but I felt the breakfast plate was a tad bit overpriced. They need to update their menus.

Yelp
Wow! This place is located in the heart of the Segundo Barrio! Excellent authentic home made Mexican food, just like my Nana use to make! We came on Sunday and it was packed, mainly with to-go orders of Menudo! Overall, amazing food and the waitress was super friendly with fast service!!! All of our food was freshly prepared!!! We ordered pancakes, Huevos con Chorizo, Enchiladas Montadas, and Menudo! Reasonably priced-make sure and take cash!!!! We will be back...

Yelp
My wife and I came here because of the history of this restaurant and it's ties to the city. Additionally, Padma from Taste the Nation, came and visited El Paso, and she also went to Jalisco Cafe. Very friendly people, affordable and plentiful, tasty as well. I'd go back the next time we visit!

Yelp
Ain't all that. Is this what they call TexMex food? I was not impressed one bit Padma Lakshmi shouldn't give advice in food she knows nothing about

Yelp
Jalisco Cafe has the best menudo and barbacoa in town. I love how nice the staff is and the food is always great.

Valerie V.

Yelp
Had the green chillaquilles plato, enjoyed it very much the tortillas were very crispy. I recommend this place for breakfast or brunch. The menudo was pretty good too

Yelp
Delicious food!! Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant, delicious food...homemade and authentic. The place itself is old and rundown. But don't let that scare you. They also only take cash but there's an ATM inside.

Yelp
First we do not speak anything but English but wanted to try a small local Mexican restaurant for breakfast. This place has about ten booths. They speak very little English. My wife ordered Eggs and chorizo breakfast and I ordered a egg and chorizo sandwich. To day it was good would be an understatement. Service was friendly and all the guest says hi as they walking in.

Yelp
Jalisco Café is that small, family-owned restaurant that so many Yelpers love to find. I had the ham & cheese torts and a chorizo burrito. Both were excellent. The brothers that waited on me were great and conversation and overall it was a wonderful experience. Menudo is what they are known for but they only serve it on weekends. Will update this review after eating their menudo.

Yelp
Ok not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews but if you are ever in the area this is a must try. The menudo was delicious, it was very authentic. It had that fresh smell and the flavor was amazing. The aguas frescas were excellent. I had the melon one and my husband had the horchata. Both were outstanding, my daughter had the steak torta and that too was very good. The service was amazing and you also get live music. We will be back next time we are in El Paso.

Yelp
Not a bad I left for the Navy in 1984 and my family on the Bowie side loved Jalisco y did as well. My spouse lived there a couple of blocks away. And my suegra would send me to Menudo by the ladle at Jalisco. Just amazing. The people are always helpful. Specially Navy Veteran Hector is a great person and the Menudo is nothing less than SUPERB!!! THANKS VERY VERY MUCH. Definetly an El Chuco staple. Very respectfully, H. Melchor Disabled Navy Veterano. Hooyah The Journey Continues. The pic shows my family loves this Menudo always empty plates. Support local. ATM!!!

Yelp
Jalisco cafe puts the 'ole' in hole in the wall. Their website says they've been serving meals for 50 years but I'm sure the building is at least 150 years old and no doubt Pancho Villa and General Pershing shared a bowl of soup here. Jalisco is located on the eastern edge of downtown in an ancient neighborhood where Mexican food eateries are found every 50 feet. And any serious Mexican food diner had better mark the spot on their GPS. My first visit to Jalisco was in 1975 when Cathedral HS coach Manny Aguilar took me there for a lunch of Caldo de Res. In the 44 years since then every bowl of caldo I have eaten anywhere has been measured against the standard set by Jalisco. But until now I had never been there for breakfast. Looking for a difference, yelp reviews brought us here. Parking is a shot in the dark and we came close to giving up but I'm so glad we found a spot. As other reviewers have said, do not let the exterior if the building scare you off. You will really miss a treat if you do. Upon entering we were immediately greeted like long lost family. I can't remember a friendlier restaurant staff. The seating area is a bit small and the booths are somewhat tight to sit in. If you have a redneck belly like me you might need a lot of napkins. Reviewers had raved about the menudo and chorizo so we opted for both. The chorizo and egg burrito was made on a freshly made flour tortilla and was every bit as good as we heard. But I came for menudo. How do you say "increíble" in English: INCREDIBLE. Jalisco makes their menudo differently from most other places which is really nice for variety. I am going on record that the best menudos in Texas are Jalisco's, Jaime's Hut, and the Good Luck Cafe. They are 1-2-3, but I will not tell you which order I rate them. You'll have to do that yourself. Suffice it to say that all the other great menudos (L&j, La Malinche,Lunch Box, Mundos, Lucy's, Martha's) in El Paso are battling for 4th place. Live music was an added extra and lollipops at checkout made my day. Go early and go often but when you see me coming get out of my way or you might get trampled.

Shona C.

Yelp
What an awesome find on our road trip back to Texas! Fantastic Menudo! In fact there were lines out the door! The place is quaint, very clean and masks and social distancing is followed! The refried beans don't get any bette! Thank you Jalisco cafe!

Yelp
I tried the menudo here and it was delicious. The service was great and friendly. I'm looking forward to going back.

Yelp
AMAZING... I'm driving from Los Angeles to Atlanta and wanted some real good authentic Mexican food right by the border AND THIS IS IT!!!!! Feels like home

Genie N.

Yelp
The food is very authenticate. We went as a result of the 5-star rating in YELP. We had menudo and it was good. Is it the best in El Paso, don't know, but it's pretty good. We ordered the Shapleigh special and it was pretty good too. I would like to take my elderly father, but it is not wheel chair accessible.

John H.

Yelp
Fabulous cafe! The food was delicious and staff was wonderful. Good price for quality Traditional Mexican food. Hector (the Owner) was very attentive and helpful. Enjoyed the singer too!

Yelp
Wow great atmosphere real Mexican, I wish they had a bigger location! When you walk in you thing it's small but you can see into the kitchen walking in and it was immaculate! Very clean and very nice people. The tacos were awesome! I will be back. Parking is a bit of an issue but worth it.

Yelp
A right of passage for any El Pasoan or visitor. Menudo is beyond good and try the red chile chilaquiles (not to be missed).

Karina A.

Yelp
The best Mexican place in EP! Incredible most lovely staff and delicious food! Tortillas de harina for burritos are everything!! NATURAL agua frescas no b.s! What are you doing not being there is the real question

V S.

Yelp
Jaliscos is a really good place to eat. The Menudo is really good. They have really good customer service. We go there often, and we really hope that you like it when you go there too.

Vic P.

Yelp
Best menudo in town! The meat is tender and the hominy is not from the can. The juice is nice and spicy I suggest eating in so you can also have some of their delicious buttered bread. Always great service and great people no matter who you are!

Jaime P.

Yelp
So far best menudo that I've had. Good services and prices are not bad. It truly is a hole in the wall.

Jesus E.

Yelp
Please don't make a decision based on location or outside appearance. This restaurant has the best customer service the best menudo and beans I've ever had in my life! Mind you I'm from San Antonio Texas! San Antonio food is very different this restaurant belongs in San Antonio IJS
