Nice restaurant, slightly remodeled from the original restaurant "screen door" fresh paint new doors, different menu set up, cross between high-end tacos and fine? Dining. Staff is friendly. The nachos were good, fried egg on top and avacodo slices. Entree carne Asad, and she got the enchilada. Low end spicy (jalapeños to me are no more than a green pepper). Wife says hers has kick. Homemade corn tortilla. Over all very good.

The food was SO good. My husband and I each got 3 tacos and for appetizers we shared the tamale and the elote dip. I had the mango Margarita which was really good as well. Our waitress was very nice and the food came quickly.

Amazing chicken enchiladas. The cilantro and lime rice was good and the fresh pinto beans with cured ham was quite tasty. Rhino served me and he was very nice, attentive and he took the time to go through the menu and answer all of my questions. Great job! Amazing food and service.

I’ve had the birria taco dish twice now - I wish I could say they were good. Instead, I’ll tell you the birria tacos are mind-blowing! These are the best tacos I’ve had in my 67 years, folks! You gotta stop by and try them soon.

I've eaten at literally thousands of Mexican restaurants all over the world. Jalisco Taqueria is in the top 5. They make everything including their tortillas from scratch and use farm to table fresh ingredients. The staff are friendly and attentive and pricing is good. AMAZING authentic Mexican food! Chef Mike came to our table and was very welcoming and humble! We will be back here to eat next time we are visiting Charleston! We highly recommend this establishment for amazing food, great cocktails and atmosphere!!!

The food was really good, but expensive. Portions were small. The restaurant was very clean and service was great.Lunch for 2 was $40+ with no alcohol or appetizers. Overall value for your money is where Jalisco is lacking

What a fantastic visit! I chose this place to try somewhere new when my Mexican food loving friend was in town. We hopped over on a Monday evening which was perfect because they were NOT busy. We asked to sit outside (the only ones out there) and they happily accommodated us. They have a decent happy hour on their snacks (queso, dips etc) which I prefer to discounts on alcohol. The elote dip was delicious. Chips are not brought out unless you order dips including salsa from the menu. Their jalapeno margarita may be my new favorite in Charleston! We ordered 10 tacos which were a fun variety of what they have to offer (and a good deal 10 for 39 when most of the tacos on the menu are $5 each). We also had the churros as a special birthday treat on the house. They really know what they're doing at Jalisco! 👏

Jalisco's menu is fantastic--I prefer it over ALL the other Mexican restaurants I've been to in the greater Charleston area. I thought the food was all very tasty. My husband thought their queso was "plain," though I thought it was typical of most queso I've had. We both LOVED their margaritas. Service was attentive, quick, without hovering. Ambiance was good except the bathroom stalls were very weird; plastic like a port-a-potty, and one of the stalls was missing it's purse hook. They have outside tables with some fully shaded.

Still love Jalisco, but have found that the food isn't always as great as I'd like it to be--recommend for a margarita and appetizer!

Came here for happy hour on a Wednesday. They offer free salsa sampler with an entree and $5 margaritas. The salsa sampler and margaritas are awesome. Our server was friendly and on point too. I'll definitely be back for happy hour. I also had a shrimp taco which was tasty and the shrimp were big.

This restaurant is beautifully decorated and has great vibes. The service is always prompt and helpful. I have visited a few times and found that they're entrées and tacos are OK, but priced a little high. The real reason I love this place is their happy hour! Margaritas are only five dollars and appetizers are priced so affordably . Check their website for happy hour details, but I believe it runs Monday through Friday 4 to 7 which makes it easy to catch after a busy day of work.

Let's Taco bout it! Are you more Taco Tuesday or Fiesta Friday? I'll take Fiesta because we have the weekend to recover I'm so excited we tried Jalisco because they're now on my list of the top 3 Taquerias in Charleston. Highly recommend! The kids loved their Chicken Strips meal, and the fish tacos were just as good as the ones in San Diego, I asked our waitress to surprise me with a cocktail and she did not disappoint. My Paloma was also and I'm ready to go back for more!

First off, I absolutely love the aesthetic of this restaurant and want my future house decorated accordingly. Our waitress was friendly & attentive despite being only one of two servers that day - we wouldn't have even known if she didn't point it out! We had mixed feelings about the food. Absolutely LOVED the Al Pastor tacos, which our waitress recommended (I can see why). They are comparable to Al Pastor tacos we've had IN Jalisco itself. The jalepeno marg + most of the salsas were a bit too spicy for my taste and didn't knock it out of the park for me personally, but that's more of a preference thing. I hope to make it back to try more bites and check out one of their parking lot parties soon!

Our second visit here, one of the best Mexican meals we have ever had. Drinks were great and fairly priced. Elote dip is amazing and I highly recommend the tacos.Our server was super attentive and very pleasant.

Worst "Mexican" dinner I've ever had. Food is incredibly under seasoned and bland. We dined with three Latino friends and they all agreed it was the worst concept that location could come up with. Down the street there are better options. Like Casa Fiesta or Azul.

We've been several times to Jalisco on James Island. The food is always good. We love the outdoor area with games and the live music inside on Saturdays. Only negative is last visit server couldn't answer some questions we had about the menu items. (Drink options, their preference on menu items, etc). Mostly tequila cocktails, beer, tacos and interesting appetizers. Good easy & casual spot.

Nice restaurant with a very casual decor and atmosphere. I had a shrimp dish that came with a side of rice and beans. The chicken was served in a garlic sauce and I thought the sauce would have been better if it tasted lighter. For dessert, I had the Flan. I was not a fan of it. It was spicy and very dry. The service was very good.

Came for restaurant week on a Friday evening with a couple of friends. I ordered off the regular menu - a fish and shrimp taco. It's a little pricey ($5/taco) - I'm used to $2-3/taco in the Midwest and they were GOOD (or the amazing tacos from Hawaii which were $4-5 per and STUFFED with shrimp or fish). The outdoor seating was nice though, just watch out for the mosquitoes!! My friends' pork shank and enchiladas were also "okay, nothing to write home about". However, they were gracious. And they had an associated parking lot and clean restrooms, but I still do not think I could recommend this place as I don't think I'd return.

Tried this place out because it looked like fun spot. The restaurant is attractive with the outdoor hanging strands of lights and the cool signage. The chips and queso were descent. We enjoyed them. I ordered enchiladas and they were fine. They were served with a yellow mole sauce. The enchiladas were made with quality chicken and had nice flavor. The rice was yummy. The prices are high for what you get , so they lose a star for that. Service was slow even though the restaurant was empty. The last star lost was because don't put Mexican street corn on the menu unless it's going to be good. The corn cob was waterlogged from boiling too long and flavorless. If they can't get it better, they should probably leave it off the menu. There was nothing crave worthy that I had. I will be back to try some tacos and quesadillas, but probably at happy hour since their drinks are on the pricy side.

I went on Monday ($5 Margaritas ) with some pals and i think we found our new regular spot! The food i got was amazing and scarfed it down before taking pictures. I had previously gotten the chicken enchiladas and they were phenomenal. This time we only got the ceviche and queso. The ceviche tasted incredibly fresh and the queso was amazing as always. We got a few of the margaritas (delicious!!!!) but i had requested a pina colada with no luck. LET ME TELL YOU....THEY CAME THROUGH!!! The pina colada margarita is no longer on the menu but they can make it if they have the ingredients! Service was excellent and our server was super nice and thoroughly answered any questions we had.

A member of the 82 Queen restaurant family, Jalisco is one of the fancier Mexican restaurants on James Island, and my husband and I visited for a date night. Jalisco's interior is fun, with a large bar, high-top tables, and lots of booths, including small booths meant for couples. Due to rain, we ate indoors, but outdoor dining is available and looks quite pleasant. The tables outside are also lower, making them more accessible (the booths inside may be a little tight). The bar area has many TVs, although the music was a bit loud. We started out with the Tres Salsa ($9), including avocado salsa, salsa verde, and morita salsa. You have to pay for chips and salsa here, but they were unique and we liked the option to order multiple salsa. Jalisco offers eight different salsas, and I wish the menu described them, but the server explained them all to us. The chips were crispy, and the avocado salsa was my favorite of the three. For my entrée, I had three tacos ($14)- two pescado (flounder) tacos and one camerones (shrimp) taco. The tacos were on homemade flour tortillas that were soft and held up when eaten. The pescado tacos were amazing- crispy but not greasy and the cilantro lime aoili added a slight bit of heat. Although I love the avocado salsa on chips, the shrimp taco needed some heat. I added morita salsa since we had the trio. My husband heard positive reviews about the Tacos Birria ($18), so that's what he ordered. The raving reviews of this dish are why we chose Jalisco. The tacos held up well, the tortillas staying crispy when dipped into the consommé. The only drawback to the Tacos Birria is that you can only purchase three tacos. It would be great to offer a 2 taco option at a slightly lower price point, as the tacos themselves are quite rich and some people may not want three tacos. For drinks, the house margarita ($7) was a great choice- it was sweet and strong, but meant to be savored/sipped. The mix was clearly made in-house, and the portion and strength were appropriate for the price. COVID-19 precautions were on point. All staff properly wore masks, hand sanitizer was provided, and the bathroom even has a PSA sign for getting a vaccine to stop the spread. Outdoor seating is also a plus, and I'd recommend it even if you are vaccinated, due to the lower tables and nice outdoor atmosphere. They offer online ordering and takeout, too. Overall, we really enjoyed Jalisco. It seems like a fun place to visit with friends, especially before or after a visit to Folly Beach. I would return for a margarita and more fish tacos.

Husband and I had an outdoor date night for our weekend getaway. The Cadillac margarita is a must! We had a crab appetizer - it comes with a sauce that is a little too spicy for me. We decided to enjoy the 10 pack of tacos on blue corn tortillas. My favorite was the chicken (topped with avocado), but you really can't go wrong. They have about a dozen different types: shrimp, fish, steak, pork, chorizo, and more! The chef even came out to check on us. Awesome. Inside looked cool, but we are outdoor fans for now.

My family and I love coming here for Taco Tuesdays! The tacos are excellent our favorite include the shrimp, Al pastor and Barbacoa! The inside dinning is nice, there's a cute outdoor patio and they are always on top of getting take out ready. Would definitely recommend

The most authentic California-Mex food I've found in Charleston. The vibe is fun and the food is delish!

Based on our initial experience here, we were impressed with the quality of service and food. Some may see the price point a little high for James Island and to some degree given the other Mexican food options, they are correct. This is a little more high end, fancy allure kind of setting for Mexican food and libations. Expect to pay a bit more, but the quality is there. You may also find that the other more casual Mexican places on Folly Road will give you exactly what you need. Overall, a good restaurant but surrounded by a lot of competition.

When you walk in, it is as expected from a nice Mexican eatery - bright, colorful with some beautiful fresco art work. But, when you have to buy chips and salsa at a Mexican place..I'm out. I ordered the Carne Asada and the flank was well seasoned, tender and delicous, however with both the Rajas and the Calabacitas Con Crema it took the meal to a level of white creamy bland... My husband had the scallops and loved this dish. One of my friends had the trio of tacos and I have to say, while blue corn tortillas may be fanciful, the color does not always highlight the food well. Blue is a difficult color in the culinary world. And I do believe his tacos kind of fell apart before he was able to eat them. After the tasty spicy margaritas and sipping on Casamigos, I really was looking forward to some flan..but again, the dessert was offered with chocolate and orange and just not a fan of that mixture. Jury is out....

The best margaritas in town! We usually order a pitcher of the "Cadillac" and share with friends. We've also enjoyed the Blood Orange and other seasonal concoctions like Blueberry. I happen to enjoy appetizers and you can't go wrong at Jalisco. I particularly enjoy their nachos. Order with friends because there's plenty to share. I also enjoy their tacos. My spouse usually orders the enchiladas. However, he had the fish stew and raved about the flavors. He plans on ordering it again. Our favorite staff member is Katie, she's always happy and attentive. The outdoor seating is also a plus...

Excellent interior of Mexico food with a focus on mole. The chile relleno was excellent, Also the queso with chips was the best queso we have ever had. The margaritas are good and very reasonable. Great service.

The people were nice and the ambience was good but the food wasn't good at all. Queso was bland and severed lukewarm making it way to thick. Carne asada tacos were just bad and the entrees were expensive. There's no authenticity in their cooking and it shows. I hate writing bad reviews because I always want to support small business but hope that this encourages them to work on their menu because this restaurant has a lot of potential. Margs were great tho.

This place was exceptional. We went for restaurant week and got the special 3-course menu along with two tacos. My expectations weren't insane being that it seemed like a pricier Mexican spot but any expectations I had were blown out of the water. Elote dip was gas, enchiladas with mole sauce were just bonkers good, the churros for dessert were the best I've ever had. I'm serious when I say this is the best Mexican food I've had in Charleston. Everything down to the dadgum black beans were top tier. Also excellent service from our waitress as she helped us order food and drinks and was super great all night. Solid spot for a date or just a weekend meal. I am passionate that everyone needs to give this place a try.

I love coming here! Especially on taco Tuesday, I recommend the Al Pastor and the Carne Asada tacos. The people there are very friendly and the outdoor seating area is great!

I would summarize as wealthy Mexican food. The food was delicious. I was good surprised at the flavor profile. Drinks, chips, appetizers, and entrees were all satisfying. There tacos had all the flavors you expect from tacos, but not from a restaurant. My only complaints are I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that doesn't offer free salsa with the chips and they have limited menu options. Staff was friendly and service was spot on.

This is a late post from our original visit. We went on the third official day of full operation. The restaurant looked great! Small changes were made from the previous decor to give it a more upscale feel. (Not stuffy though). Service was a bit rocky- as to be expected being so new. Our server and various managers were all very polite and helpful. Drinks: I first ordered the spicy margarita. It was ok. The mix tasted very premixed and was heavy on sour. I then switched to the blood orange margarita. They nailed it with this one! The flavor was delicious and the presentation with the black salted rim was eye catching. Appetizer: We orders the Chilaquiles. They were amazing! My mouth is watering as I write this. The verde sauce is one of the best we've ever had. I'm honestly not a huge fan of runny eggs but decided to be brave. The over easy egg served on top was pretty tasty with the other components of the dish. Main Course: I ordered the Tamales, served with cilantro lime rice and frijoles borrachos. The tamales were delicious and tasted homemade. The rice was...rice. The beans were a let down as I was expecting flavor packed beans that have been slow cooked over days and ring true to Mexican cuisine. They were just ok. Overall, my biggest complaint was the temperature of the entire dish. Everything as room temp. I'm confident that the kitchen and service will continue to work on timing and that will improve over time. My boyfriend got the tacos- Carne Asada, Chorizo and Al Pastor. The meat was flavorful but the tortillas were not so great. I feel strongly that Mexican restaurants that specialize in tacos, should make their own tortillas. These did not taste homemade. For the price, I would order another entree. Overall, we had a nice experience. I'm looking forward to returning in a few months- once the kinks are more ironed out.

3.5/5 stars I recently met a friend for dinner here, and we had a good time. SERVICE: Fantastic! Could not have been better. FOOD: The 82 Queen group does good things. I'm least excited about Jalisco. I started with the Queso dip ($6) and chips. The chips were excellent--just the right amount of thickness, grease, and salt. The queso's flavor was fine but the texture was very grainy/gritty. I'm not used to queso like this. I also ordered Tres Salsas & Fresh Tortillas ($7). Again, great chips. The Avocado Salsa was the best of the trio followed by the Verde. The Salsa Guajillo de Jalisco was overly smoky and spiced making it unenjoyable. I ordered two tacos for my entrée: 1 Carne Asada ($5 for Marinated Grilled Certified Angus Beef Flank Steak, Guajillo Salsa) And 1 Camarones ($4 for Mojo Sauteed Shrimp, Avocado Salsa) Both were served on blue corn soft tortillas which fell apart before I could eat the tacos. The tortillas were flavorless, and portions were small for tacos at this price point. DRINKS: I had one Jalapeño Margarita $8: Jalapeño Infused Sauza, Pineapple Juice, Sour Mix, Agave, Smoked Salt. It was awesome! I especially liked the smoked salt flavor that permeated the whole drink. I'll come back to Jalisco again, but it isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Lowcountry.

I was hoping for more from this restaurant since it's close to home. The chips, salsas and Mexican street corn were good, but some of the meats were dry and chewy and the margarita was on the sweet side and needed more sour. The tacos definitely need the sauce and veggies they are served with, but then they all ended up having the same flavor. Hopefully, they can get some of these kinks worked out!

I have been craving authentic Mexican food ever since moving from Southern California, and Jalisco did not disappoint. The newly-newly renovated (rip: Screen Door/James) location has an open, warm, and inviting floor plan. The staff is personable and welcoming. As I was craving tacos, I went in for the trio of tacos, choosing the Carne Asada, Carnitas, and Barbacoa with a side of Street Corn. Nearly a home run with all three: The Barbacoa was, by far the most delicious! It has just the right amount of spice and heat. The carnitas taco was also tasty, needing only a dash of their homemade salsa. The Carne Asada, I give mixed reviews: although the skirt steak was very tender and grilled to a perfect rare, it lacked seasoning that a good marinade would have cured (guys, if you want, I'll give you my wife's marinade recipe ) The food is really good. Portion-size vs price point could be better: not sure paying downtown prices on Jim Isle will fly for long. In total, however, the food is delicious. The staff are friendly. I will return to try more of the menu at Jalisco!!

I have been looking forward to dining at Jalisco and finally got the opportunity to go tonight. I read great Yelp reviews and was sadly disappointed. My friend and I sat at the bar and enjoyed margaritas to start. She had the Cadillac and I had the Blood Orange. I was pleased with mine, but not overwhelmed. My friend was disappointed that hers was not strong enough. We witnessed others with the same complaints and the bartenders did not agree. I will say that after 2 margaritas I did not feel that I had drank even an ounce of alcohol. We decided to try the chips and avocado salsa. The salsa was delicious but the chips were overly salted. My friend was not hungry, but I was and ordered two tacos. This was the most disappointing part of the visit. I ordered the Carne asada and Pork carnitas. The tacos lacked flavor and were served on a purple taco shell that was not tasty. The tacos were $4 and $5 and definitely not worth the price. I also ordered churros to try them out. They were overcooked and I wish I hadn't ordered them. I wish I had more good to say about Jalisco-the decor is similar to Screen Door and it's very bright and open. We liked the bartender who served us. We really wanted to enjoy the whole experience and want to be returning customers, but some changes need to be made.

I wanted to like the place since I am taking COVID 19 very seriously. I had been told they were being very careful with tables outside at least six feet apart. The only thing that had changed was no hand sanitizer and the menus were reusable and plastic. I thought menus were to be paper and disposable? But I'm not sure so that's okay, I was still happy the tables were so far apart. Now if only the food was edible. For starters we chose the cheese dip with Chorizo. It was standard cheese dip but the chorizo was bland and had a huge puddle of grease in the middle. We sent it back after having to go inside and request our server. This happened twice, we ran out of water, and had to flag someone down for water. Food was delivered and not even the presentation was interesting, the mix was bland and just not good at all. I wanted there to finally be a restaurant in this spot that was not doomed from the beginning. I like the Screen Door the only time I ate there, but as to Jalisco? Poor service and not very good food.

After moving from California I had been looking for a GREAT Mexican restaurant with no luck. That is until I came to Jalisco. This is hands down the best Mexican food you'll find in Charleston. Nearly everything is hand made, the flavors are incredible, the margaritas are delicious and the staff are super friendly. The enchiladas and blue corn street tacos were my favorite. Their tamales are also incredible. You honestly can't do wrong.

Jalisco Taqueria was great! Was in town overnight and decided to visit this place with my business partner. So happens that he's family is from Jalisco and he was intrigued about the authenticity of the taste. After ordering the Pastor and the carnitas tacos we quickly found that someone in the kitchen knew a bit about what they were doing. Lots of hispanic spots are forced to steer towards the more Americanized taste which honestly is garbage wrap in a hole lot of cheese... BUT in here they have managed to build a fancy more modern Mexican american place with great authentic taste! Also count with a vast variety of tequilas which made the choices interesting! We had a very nice bartender and great attentive manager (Amanda) who was receptive to our comments. Thanks for your service guys. Would definitely recommend this place.

So a friend of mine just moved in around the corner from Jalisco's and was constantly hyping this place up. I never imagined it would live up to the hype and I was right. Jalisco's surpassed it! Every single part of this experience was phenomenal from being greeted to seated to ordering and beyond! We started with the Salsa Trio. I chose the regular, verde, and habanero. Now the server warned be about the heat of the habanero but i through caution to the wind and dug in. Yes it was insanely spicy but also had such an amazing flavor that I couldn't stop torturing myself as I consumed the whole bowl. Next I tried the barria tacos. This was my first experience with barria tacos and again surpassed my expectations. I really don't see how they could have been any better!!! Next time I'm on James island and have the turning for something a little south of the border you bet your bottom dollar I'll be at Jalisco's!

We were in town visiting from TX, and being that we are accustomed to authentic Mexican food back home, we weren't really sure what to expect here. But let me tell you that we were pleasantly surprised! The food is delicious! The staff was also very attentive and friendly. The establishment is also very clean and the atmosphere is inviting. Our favorite was the corn dip, guacamole salsa and the Al pastor tacos! It's nice that they kept the food authentic while still adding their own flavor and making it unique.

Overall the experience was good because of our server Katie. We ordered the enchiladas which were extremely saturated in a bowl sauce and cheese. It was not good. However, the street tacos and shrimp were amazing. Nice vibe and great service just really bad enchiladas!

I wanted to give this place a four so bad. I struggled with it the whole weekend. Couldn't bring myself to it. I think they deserve one whole star just for the sexy. As you pull up at night you can see the warm fire for people who want to dine outside inside is kind of dimly lit. Just a great dating scene. But the food is so bland and unseasoned. You remember your mother's pot roast on Sundays? They put the same pot roast really stewed down and shredded and put it in a taco. It's like a thick chewy pot roast inside of a taco. Now they have one taco in wich they cook the shell I believe fried and it is so rich and good and they put the meat in that with like a gravy dipping sauce. That made the taco way better. As far as the dips for your nachos they come in $6 sizes. And they are very very small. You have the small bowl of guacamole with a big hand towel full of nachos. We tried three different sauces which were very flavorful but barely give you any. As I look at the pictures before I arrive I thought there were what I was looking for for years. A more upscale more Latino restaurant. But as I compare everything to the hacienda and other Mexican restaurants for the $110 we spent here we would have had a way better time and way more food at the other spots. This place is crazily overrated, and overpriced. I'm on the fences as if I would come back that's usually the question I asked when I go to a restaurant. I would if someone else was paying. Even the Margaritas are small. There's no takeout box here. The food is rationed so low and lack flavor.

We just moved here from San Francisco and this is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Charleston. Not my favorite Mexican restaurant, my favorite restaurant of all! This is real Mexican food, not cheap fake Americanized Mexican food, all of the ingredients are fresh, Tortillas are made on the premises and the margaritas are freshly squeezed. This place is a true vacation and makes our family so happy every time we go. Not to mention there is a great outdoor seating area with tons of heating lamps. Oh and the servers are super friendly too. Jalisco, keep doing what you're doing. We see you being awesome .

Best Mexican meal we've had yet and we've tried many. I'll gladly make the drive from Summerville for this place. The jalapeño margaritas were outstanding. We make our own usually, but their recipe was solid. We started with the Pulpo which was octopus served on fried plantains and amazing. Next, we had the beer battered tempura fish tacos. Those were incredible. We also shared the pork meatballs served in a salsa verde. All of the flavors were fantastic and none so spicy that it dominated the palate. Stumbled across this place because Folly Beach was too busy and I'm glad it was!!! What a precious amazing find!!! A must stop if you love fresh ingredients a warm staff and a new twist on Mexican food. Such creative dishes! Can't wait to come back and try more!

Nice restaurant and nice people! Great tacos. It is quite expensive though. They have plenty of outdoor space and you can bring your dog.
