A taco store on every corner?
In the case of Taqueria Jalisco, the taco store on the back side corner, not visible from the main South Lake Tahoe blvd.
We came here in response to the $1.50 taco. Hole in the wall, facing a back parking lot. Go to the counter, check the overhead menu, place your order, grab a drink from the see through refrigerator on the side, and hand over your cash.
We ordered 5 tacos to go: 1 chicken, 2 carnitas, 1 asada, and 1 al pastor, and hand over the cash. 10 minutes later, our order comes in a white bag, complete with chips, and 4 small containers for the salsa additions.
I grab one red salsa, 1 chunky tomato, and 2 chopped onions.
Checking out the joint, there's a TV on the overhead, probably playing Mexican soccer, instead of major league baseball. No windows, pretty basic furniture, not the best place for Mexican ambiance, and definitely not for a first date, which would be your last date!
At our timeshare 5 minutes away, we open up the tacos and pour on the salsa. The chicken is like boiled chicken breast, devoid of flavor. The al pastor is all dried out. Stick to the carnitas and the carne asada, which don't have a huge amount of flavor, but with decent serving size. Add the red salsa, rather than the chunky tomato and chopped onions, which lack zip.
The tacos are very small, with warm flour tortillas about 4 inches in diameter. Adds new meaning to gone in sixty seconds!
