One of the worst hotel experiences I've had in a while. In a nutshell: Booked a room there, wasn't accommodated for questionable reasons but instead moved to an unacceptable alternative, didn't get reimbursed.
So upon arrival on a recent Saturday for a 2-night-stay we were told by the front desk manager that because of some "huge electricity problem" issue the entire 5th and 6th floor would be unuseable, and since the hotel was fully booked he couldn't accomodate us. He said he would rebook us for the "Le Berger" which would be a hotel in the "same category". He assured us this would actually be great because the rooms there would be larger than at the Jam. This wasn't quite our plan, but we agreed. Also a friend of ours stayed at the Jam, and we looked at her room which looked great, so we thought we'd definitely have a nice room at the Berger, as well. But we were shocked when we checked into the Berger. The room they gave us was tiny, the entire hotel has a very old and stuffy feel to it and is pretty smelly, too. So it really was the opposite of what we wanted to book when we decided to stay at the Jam with its modern and funky feel. We were dreading the idea of staying there just for a single night, so our friend at the Jam offered to let us stay with her, so we wouldn't have to stay at the Berger. We went back to the Jam and told the front desk manager we thought the Berger was unacceptable and we would stay with our friend. He apologized and said he would make sure we got our own room at the Jam on Sunday.
So Sunday morning we went to the front desk to make sure we have our own room that night, but also to ask the front desk manager for a refund for Saturday night, because we obviously didn't use our booking as we stayed in our friend's room. As opposed to the manager the night before, she was not apologetic at all, but starting arguing with us. She said we had no reason to complain, because a) we were rebooked at the Berger and b) we ended up staying at the Jam, anyway. She didn't seem to care that we found the Berger completely inadequate compared to what we originally had booked. Or that it is quite a difference to have your own room and privacy versus staying in the extra bed of a room with somebody else.
She also said she wasn't authorized to give us a refund because we would have to contact an email-address for that.
So we sent an email, and after about ten days an account manager replied with pretty much the same thing the front desk manager had said. He refused to refund us one night and argued they found a "solution" by rebooking us into the "same category"-Berger. Whatever he means by "same category", this is complete nonsense. We actually compared prices for the Berger and the Jam for several dates, and the Berger was quite a bit cheaper in many cases. But they insisted on charging us the Jam-rate anyway.
Laughably, the account manager, while refusing a refund, offered us free breakfasts for our next stay as a "commercial gesture" (as if we would ever stay there again).
None of this was our fault. We would have been happy to pay for 2 nights at the Jam, if we would have stayed in our own room for 2 nights as we had planned and booked. Also, we seriously question if this technical problem really existed. We walked up to the supposedly ususeable floors on Sunday morning and saw hotel guests and staff there which made us suspect this might have been just an overbooking situation.
So we've come to know the Jam as a shady business with a lousy understanding of hospitality. I would never go there again.
