I love an Irish pub. The atmosphere, decor, food, and drink selections are usually right up my alley. Therefore, I was happy that a colleague chose this place to eat. It was conveniently right around the corner from the hotel I was staying at.
First thing I noticed was the decor. Traditional wood, a few small cubbies, and a few TVs (but not too many like a sport's-bar). The group I was with sat in a somewhat enclosed space near the front.
Our server was Lauren, who, quite frankly was amazing. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and came around just enough to give us our space while providing everything we needed. Kudos to her. Good wait staff are a huge part of what makes a restaurant worth coming to.
We had some appetizers and drinks up front. Old Bay grilled peel and eat shrimp, and fried cheese curds. The shrimp were excellent and fresh (this is Baltimore), and the cheese curds were pretty good. Breaded and fried, easy to eat, but not as interesting as a regular cheese curd.
We also ordered some brown bread on the side for our meal. The bread was sliced from a boule and toasted (possibly on a flat top). I think it needed salt, but the freshness and texture were great.
I had the bison burger - medium. It was cooked just right and the patty was good size. The bun was toasted, and it had cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle on it I am not a fan of shredded lettuce, much less iceberg, but the burger was decent anyway. I had chips with mine, which were house-made and needed salt. A couple of guys at the table had reuben sandwiches which were supposedly great. There was also a roast beef dip sandwich, which looked amazing (and confirmed).
There were also some Guinness, Jameson, Irish coffee, and a single dessert ordered. I had a ginger beer with lime and grenadine. The ginger beer was from their gun dispenser, and I am not sure which brand it is, but it had no ginger kick to it. Might as well be ginger-ale.
And lastly, there were three people playing folk music on guitar, banjo, flute, possibly mandolin. That's a nice touch, and great that it was actual folk music instead of 80's. I think I heard Ragtime Annie and possibly Old Joe Clark.
Overall, the place rates really well (top 10) within the many Irish pubs I've been too. I'd definitely come back.
