James St

"A cheery team help add to the vibrant buzz at this long-standing modern bistro. It’s a simple place, with exposed brick walls, a high ceiling and warehouse-style windows – and the classic brasserie menus suit it perfectly. The cooking is unfussy and generous, with the grill dishes always a hit; the succulent steaks are cooked on the Josper, served on boards and come with a choice of sauces – go for the tomahawk or Chateaubriand if you fancy sharing. Keep an eye out for their great value set menu." - Michelin Inspector

Absolutely amazing food! The scallops and steak I ordered easily deserve an 11/10 — absolutely delicious! The scallops were delicate, fresh, and full of flavor, while the steak was cooked to perfection — tender, juicy, and bursting with taste. Every bite was pure joy. The service was incredibly warm and attentive from start to finish. Despite being a group of 14, everything was handled with impressive efficiency — all the plates arrived at the same time, hot, beautifully presented, and exactly as ordered. Everyone at the table was happy and more than satisfied. I wholeheartedly recommend this place — it truly stole my heart.

Great steaks and the suef and turf hit it out of the park. Take your family or dinner date here to seal the deal. (Wink). The desserts were great as well. We ordered a variety of drinks and all were very good. For the price the whiskey flights are a great deal. We enjoyed the 12 year old flight and can say the third variety will be bought as a bottle to consume back home. The interior of the place is exceptionally clean and well put together.

Visited the James St restaurant this evening on our first visit to Belfast. Great food, my Wife & I had the Cervice each to start followed by the Chateaubriand to share which was cooked perfectly. All the staff were very attentive, special shout out to Claire for her wine recommendations & always around checking to ensure we had everything we needed. Great atmosphere with good music that was in the background rather than taking over the restaurant. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Belfast.

Really wonderful experience overall at James St. Attentive service from front of house, waiters, everyone really. We ordered the Chateaubriand to share, with an extra side of roasted carrots. There was quite a wait for our food to arrive, around 45 minutes give or take (as you can see we began eating before I remembered to take photos) but it was worth it. Tender, perfectly cooked, nicely seasoned steak. Carrots were flavourful and had a nice char on them. My only critique would be that the peppercorn sauce was a tad runny, I would have preferred it a bit thicker and for there to be more of it. Apple tarte tatin was divine. We'll definitely be back.

We had a wonderful experience at James St. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional — a rare find in Belfast, where good service can be surprisingly hard to come by. We were looked after by Giovanni, who took the time to walk us through the menu and offered excellent recommendations. His attention to detail and genuine care made our meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommended — this place stands out not just for its food, but for truly warm and attentive service.

Opted for small plates from the starter section and they were all spectacular. The restaurant is very laid back but the quality of food on offer is anything but. All the staff we met were extremely kind and chatty, well worth a visit.

Overpriced for what you get. I had a cod main and it was the smallest piece of cod I’ve ever received in a restaurant. I tend to order fish when out and whilst it can be expensive the portion size is always bigger and usually has a side include. This was £28 with no veg either. My friend had the chicken and it was very underwhelming in both taste and appearance. One positive was the dessert cocktail but I will definitely not be back. Waterman was a much better experience a few months ago. I have added comparison photos, definitely book waterman over James st.

Just wanted to start of by saying this is the second time we have went and it has never disappointed. So for start we went for bread to share then we shared a crab and prawn pasta and wow, it was amazing, so much taste. I would recommend this to anyone how loves a bit saucy spaghetti. For our main we got a tomahawk steak to share with creamy champ, Parmesan truffle fries and mushrooms. Was unbelievable, deffo one of the nicest steaks we’ve ever had.
