Delicious. They've always been great, since the days of Thep Phenom. They were a bit less consistent toward the end of the Thep Phenom days, so it's good that they did a complete overhaul, to began again with a fresh, new concept. I was initially sad to lose Thep Phenom, but now that I've tried Janchays, I'm not. It's great. Same high quality food, with newly inspired dishes, and a few Thep Phenom throwbacks still on the menu. Prices went up a couple dollars more than before but higher prices are becoming pretty standard in this area.
The difference is that their focus isn't on Thai food anymore. It's now more of an Asian / French, fusion style. It feels more fused with Vietnamese than Thai to me.
They've changed the interior design as well. They've done away with the ornate, classically styled Thai fixtures of Thep Phenom. They've traded it in for a fresh new look. Now they're sporting modern, minimalist black and white features, but it's not dull or boring. It's chic, it definitely resembles the style of a French bistro!
I tried the Shaking Beef. It was delicious. Better than most other places I've tried. Very saucy. I savored each morsel.
The portions are fairly small but that's not unusual in pricier spots.. I'd love to try their Bouillabaisse some time. It looks delicious.
