The Best Pizza Places in D.C.

"Grazie Nonna chef Julian Addison recently expanded his NYC-style pizza place across state lines with a new locale inside Crooked Run Fermentation’s brewery in Virginia. Union Market-born J&J sells classic pies and creative pizzas, like kale, cream, and caramelized onions on the Cream of the Crop." - Tierney Plumb, Emily Venezky

A Hot D.C. Taqueria Unveils a Bigger Home — And More August Openings | Eater DC

"In Sterling, I noted that chef Julian Addison expanded his NYC-style pizza place into Crooked Run Fermentation’s brewery, where Union Market–born J&J sells pizzas, wings, and sides like Caesar salad and mozzarella sticks in the taproom to accompany beers from the local craft brewery." - Emily Venezky

From out of town and went here for a more relaxed casual atmosphere. Although we were on a time crunch. The bar tender was awesome in getting us on our way. The pizza had a zest to it that was unexpectedly delicious!! The crust was cooked perfectly and soft on the inside. So darn good! We are eating it again just one day later because we want to get our fill while we are here! Everything else is a waste of money. 😂

Came in with a group for a bite to eat and some beers. J&J’s is connected to the Crooked Run brewery. J&J’s itself has some of their beers on tap, and a full liquor and wine bar selection. They have $5 dollar slices with a wide range of options or you can order a whole pie. They also have wings and other appetizers. The atmosphere is inviting, kid friendly, and they have a few games and even a stage for karaoke and live performances. Lots of seating- both indoors and out, and at the bar. You can take your beer and food right down the hall and connect to Crooked Run and sit in their establishment at their tables or bar. The staff is friendly, helpful and service was quick and easy. The pizza was delicious. Crooked Run was also a great place. With countless beers on tap (30 or so or more), and tacos and more on their menu. The outdoor seating area is my favorite with countless picnic style tables, and areas for kids to run around and play in. It’s accessible and easy to find despite being tucked away in an industrial style complex. Super clean. There are countless options for dietary needs including vegetarian, gluten free and more. 10/10 highly recommend.

After waiting for about 30 min for our pizza (the pizza was already cooked) they finally put it in the oven thing to heat it up for us when I asked about it. The garlic knots came out another 10 min later. And all of our food was burnt. Taste was mediocre and the service was just as bad.

Pizza was definitely not NY style. The crust was the thick an had a lot of probably cornmeal. The pizza itself was nondescript. Not good or bad, just there. With better choices close by this is something you can, or should, skip. Just stick with the reliability good taco option in the same location. To echo a common complaint the pizza was also super late even without anything else seeming to be happening. Pizza was around $25-28. Note that a lot of these reviews (see pictures) are actually for Crooked Run brewery and Senior Ramones (taco and nacho pictures). Both of those are fine options.

Just want to say that this is the most mid pizza I have ever had. The only positive thing about it is the crust, which was really good. Other than that, I feel like the pizza didn’t have enough cheese and pepperoni. It was bland, and for $24+, you had expect a really good pizza and this was not it.

We ordered take-out for a family gathering. The pepperoni was ok. The kale mushroom pie was amazing- it had a spicy sauce and it was cooked to perfection. Yum! It takes about 20 mins from when you order to when they are ready. Pickup was easy.

Crooked Run is a great time! The beer is great, the staff is friendly, and the building is big enough that it doesn’t get too noisy. Great time

Yelp
So we were at Crooked Run and Ramon's and saw this had just opened, so each got a slice to try it out. They make good pizza. The price point may be a little high ($6/slice of pepperoni w/ a 20% tip), but it's good, NY style thin crust. Next time will probably get a pie to go.
