The Best Pizza Places in D.C.

"Grazie Nonna chef Julian Addison recently expanded his NYC-style pizza place across state lines with a new locale inside Crooked Run Fermentation’s brewery in Virginia. Union Market-born J&J sells classic pies and creative pizzas, like kale, cream, and caramelized onions on the Cream of the Crop." - Tierney Plumb, Emily Venezky

Crooked Run is a great time! The beer is great, the staff is friendly, and the building is big enough that it doesn’t get too noisy. Great time

We ordered take-out for a family gathering. The pepperoni was ok. The kale mushroom pie was amazing- it had a spicy sauce and it was cooked to perfection. Yum! It takes about 20 mins from when you order to when they are ready. Pickup was easy.

This is objectively good pizza. I don't just say that because this is one of my favorite places to visit in the area. I'm really down for every pie on the menu... that isn't something you can say for most pizza places.

I’ve had the sticky rice beer before and I loved it so was excited to go to the tasting room. Definitely a big fan of the vibe here. Big fan of all the food options too! Feels like a great place to have lunch or grab a really good drink after work. Don’t miss out!

Beer and 2 pizza slices combo can’t be beat! Great food, great beer, great service! If you’re lucky enough to have Scott or Lilly working, you’re in the best possible hands! Love this place and their staff!

After my initial review, the owners contacted me and wanted to make things right. Honestly, I don't think I have ever received that level of customer service before. I was flabbergasted. Top notch. 5-stars. I went back a week later (today). I got a full pizza this time as recommended by the owners. It was definitely better than the slices I had a week earlier. I had a pick-up for noon -- it wasn't ready at noon. They were still dressing the pizza when I walked in at 12:01. I had to wait almost 10 minutes to get the pizza. I needed to get back to work, so I was a bit pressed for time, but it was fine. The pizza had more sauce than previously. It wasn't horribly thin like last time. It also didn't taste old nor were the slices small. The only thing is, I wish the sauce had a bit more pizazz. I like a more robust flavor. I really want to taste the natural sweetness of tomato. I am a sauce person and the sauce for me is my favorite part of any pizza. I wanted a bit more in the flavor department. The toppings were good and the crust was great. I understand that maybe this pizza just isn't for me, but they are a great establishment and I want them to continue to have great success. While the pizza isn't what I am looking for, I will definitely recommend it to others. Who knows... I may come back, which is an improvement from how I felt last week. **Original Review 1-star** It pains me a bit to leave a 1-star review since this place seems well liked, but, for me, it left a bad first impression. My partner and I decided to try this place before we went home. We ordered 2 pepperoni slices and 2 vodka slices. When we got to our car, we noticed that we were only given 1 pepperoni slice. First mistake. I went back and got the missing slice with no issue. When we got home to eat, my partner did not like the way the pepperoni smelled. I smelled it, and it did smell odd -- like old grease. Our slices had hardly any sauce. Not much flavor. Then, when it was time to eat my second slice, the slice was small. It was half the size of the first slice - an egregious size for $5. After that, I was done. I go to NYC multiple times a year. I have pizza every time I go, so I know what it is. Today, this was not a good or even decent replication of it. It was a bad first impression, and, because of that, we won't be returning.

Yelp
So we were at Crooked Run and Ramon's and saw this had just opened, so each got a slice to try it out. They make good pizza. The price point may be a little high ($6/slice of pepperoni w/ a 20% tip), but it's good, NY style thin crust. Next time will probably get a pie to go.
