5 New Pizza Places to Know About Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Situated in Crooked Run Fermentation’s Union Market taproom, the J&J pizza project from chef Julian Addison and Crooked Run’s Jake Endres specializes in New York–style whole pies and rare-to-Union-Market pizza-by-the-slice, pairs suggested beers with pies, offers crispy wings in flavors like mambo and lemon pepper, and opens with a weekday happy hour of two slices and a beer for $12; Addison relies on a 48-hour cold-fermented dough to produce pies topped with jalapeños and Sriracha bacon, a mushroom medley, and sausage and peppers." - Tierney Plumb

"Fast-casual pizza spot Pidzza offers a Turkish take on pizzas. Diners can get their pide customized, or try signature “pidzzas” like The LMC (ground beef, tomato, onion, parsley, green pepper, garlic and spices). There’s salads too, and breakfast and dessert pide options. —Adele Chapin" - Missy Frederick

Google
Super yummy pizza, wings, and craft beer. Excellent service. Comfortable place to hang out. Would come here all the time if we lived in DC.

Google
Such a nice vibe! I loved the outdoor/indoor open concept. My group loved the SpongeBob playing on the TV. The pizza was okay - the vodka pizza was great, the cheese pizza is like that of every other, and the pepperoni was good, but all three were a bit soggy.

Google
Best pizza slices in DC. The wings are amazing and super crunchy. Best chicken wings in the city hands down. Also a great happy hour deal 2 pizza slices and a beer for 12.00 plus tax is unbeatable

While visiting the area for an art exhibit, I stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch—and I’m so glad I did! The food was nothing short of amazing. I started with a classic slice of cheese pizza, and it completely exceeded my expectations. It was fresh, perfectly greasy, and had just the right amount of crispiness. I also tried the Old Bay wings, and they were hands down the best wings I’ve ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! Pairing them with a side of hot honey sauce was a game-changer—it elevated the entire experience. The service was just as impressive as the food. The two staff members who took my order were incredibly kind and welcoming. I also loved the atmosphere, especially the big open window at the front of the restaurant—it’s such a fun spot to enjoy your meal. If you’re in the area, I can’t recommend this place enough. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Good pizza and even more delicious wings - that I was able to customize too (sooo appreciative)! I had their rotating speciality pizza which was very flavourful and their old bay and zatar wings. The warm servers, laid back atmosphere, and interesting back story to the business alongside the fresh products will make me come back !

Google
J&J Pizza never disappoints! The crust is perfectly crisp, the sauce has great flavor, and the toppings are always fresh. Whether I’m ordering a classic pepperoni or trying one of their specialty pies, everything is consistently tasty. The staff is friendly and the service is fast, even during busy times. Highly recommend for a casual night in or when you’re craving quality pizza!

Google
I would move to DC for this pizza alone. Hands down it's the best pizza I've ever had. Our whole group was raving. I typically like wood fired pizza, but they don't hold a candle to J&J's. Order from here - you can thank me later 😉

Google
Great pizza at $5 a slice! It was slow to order, but had an overall great experience! Also, get the vodka pizza, it was delish 😋 The metalhead beer is great!

Yelp
If we lived by this place, trust me I would come here every day! Vibes are good, staff is nice, pizza and hot and toasty (I loveeee pizza crust) and wash it all down with a nice sour.

Yelp
I took a friend to J&J Pizzeria and enjoyed their happy hour special, which was a great value. The cheese and white pizza slices stood out as solid choices with nicely balanced flavors and well-made crusts. While I'm not much of a beer drinker, I at least tolerated their beer selection, which rounds out the experience in the brewery setting. I'd happily revisit for both the food and the relaxed atmosphere.

Yelp
So many places to eat and drink in union market. I was in the area on a busy Saturday evening and just wanted a quick bite before heading back home. The pizza place is connected to a brewery so there's plenty of tables to sit and eat and grab a drink if you want. Even has a few TVs for sports fans. They weren't too many slices available when I arrived. I opted for the pepperoni slice and the pizza was actually pretty good. I didn't have high expectations but what pleasantly surprised. I would stop here again if I was in the area.

Yelp
Cooo little joint with a nice decorative vibe inside. Order by the slice or the whole Za. We went with a couple slices and waited shortly. Friendly service front desk. In and out in 5 with our slices. The pizza was decent and the price wasn't bad for the size. Had a nice crispy crust with some flop but slightly thicker than New York slices. Overall a good stop.

Nina R.

Yelp
The place was packed on a Friday night so got my pizza to go. Both slices - one kale and crema, one cheese - were good and I appreciate that they heat it up for you. I would go back to hang out with friends.

Yelp
Expensive but good not to mention they don't have olives $65 for a large pizza and 12 wings!

Yelp
My experiences at J&J Pizza have been good. I've visited a few times and all of the visits were good. That said, I have only experienced takeout. The pizza is New York style which is a breath of fresh air to the DMV where so many non-chain pizza shops try to reinvent pizza with new styles and concepts. Sometimes simple is better and although J&J Pizza has some creative pizza recipes, they don't stray away from their traditional NY style concept. They also serve delicious wings. There are big screen televisions, craft beer, and music in the restaurant, so it is perfect for social gatherings. After visiting a few times, the pizza and wings are consistently good quality. The customer service is also good. There is street parking however, limited. Overall a good experience.

Yelp
The pizza here is SOOOOO good! It's the perfect amount ingredients! The vibe usually depends on the day and so does the service! They have outside seating and they have an open dining concept with the big window! It's super cool! Definitely going back for my pizza cravings, hopefully when the nice staff is working!

Yelp
Pretty decent pizza that has fluffy and chewy dough. The mushroom pizza is particularly fluffy. Not super thin pizza but thin enough to qualify. Very flavorful and has a lot of different options. The place is pretty big and seems like it could be very lively on the weekends. The staff is very nice and clearly love their pizza.

Yelp
My kids love the pizza here. I think the sauce is pretty garlic forward. However, i do really enjoy the mambo and lemon peppee wings! At one point we were going twice a week and racking up points to buy more food! We mostly order ahead and the food is always ready when we arrive. And it's pretty kid friendly. We always see families here and enjoying the outside seating in the summer.

Yelp
Really solid pizza spot in Union market. This place is located within the Crooked Run brewery, so you can grab a beer and enjoy your pizza or have a pint while you wait. They also have nonalcoholic options! We had the white pie, which was really solid. We also had the mozzarella sticks, which are huge, crispy, and super tasty. I will definitely come back for the kale and caramelized onion pie, and keep this spot in my pizza rotation. Service is decently fast and friendly. They have indoor seating and a large outdoor patio, where you can bring your dog. Would be a great spot for a gathering with friends, kids, or even a chill birthday celebration. The place is usually pretty lively on the weekends during the day, but has been fairly subdued during the week. Also a good spot to go and enjoy a slice and a pint by yourself. They open the garage doors in the front when it's nice, and you can sit at the bar right under the garage doors and face outside, which I always love.

Yelp
J&J Pizza was inside of the Crooked Run Fermentation building so it's easy to miss. My daughter was in the mood for mozzarella sticks and I was in the mood for pizza so we stopped by. On this particular night, they were having trivia and it was packed but not crowded. The person who took my order was so cool and I wish I had gotten their name. I ordered two slices of pepperoni pizza, mozzarella sticks, and hot honey mustard wings to go. There was about a 15 minute wait so I ended up waiting by the bar and eating the slices there and watching the trivia rounds. We were also offered a big bottle of water while we waited. My daughter enjoyed her mozzarella sticks and the pepperoni off of my slice of pizza. I love hot honey and honey mustard flavors separately so I was intrigued by the combination. It was really good. I would go back, especially to check out trivia night.

Yelp
We stopped in for pizza and beer on a Friday night and were able to find a table pretty quickly! There are QR codes on the table but we didn't figure out how to add things and order on our phones, so we just walked up to the bar to order. I had the Heart and Soul hazy IPA. It was a little more bitter than I like, but it was good! We split the mushroom and the cheese pizza. Both were delicious! We also had some mango habanero wings, which were very good and spicy! I loved the environment. It was a really fun impromptu dinner.

Yelp
I was excited to check out J & J, as they're serving up some NY-style pizzas! Besides pizza, the menu also offers salads, wings, and various sides. We tried: +Mozzarella Sticks - served with marinara +Wings - you can opt for 6 or 12, in which we opted for the latter; sauces include Lemon Pepper, Mambo, Buffalo, and Mango Hab; we went for the Buffalo +Cheese pizza +Cream of the Crop - with kale, crema, and onions +Shroom Special - with cremeni, maitake, ricotta, and white sauce I liked that they offer an option to get all flats, but note that you do pay an upcharge for this request. Staff were friendly. Plenty of street parking in the area.

Yelp
Got a slice the other day and it was good! Nice chill place in NoMa. Lots of trivia nights there too

Yelp
Pizza (white) was all right. Not very fresh - perhaps a whole pizza would taste fresher than a slice sitting in the glass display. The wait took forever too. Chicken wings (mambo style) were amazing though. 5 stars for these chicken wings.

Erin W.

Yelp
Great pizza great place to hang out at! We enjoyed grabbing drinks and being able to chill

Kaila N.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick drink and Amanda was amazing. Super friendly and let us try whichever beers we wanted, plus they had a great selection. She definitely made the experience 10x better. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Loved this place. I highly recommend the mozzarella sticks and the beer was phenomenal. We got great recommendations and samples from the kindest bartender, Ricky. He was extremely helpful and we will definitely be back.

Yelp
This pizza place is located inside Crooked Run Fermentation. You order at the bar when you order drinks. Went on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy, but we managed to find a table for two and it was bussed fairly quickly. Service was great. The wings were absolutely incredible. Best lemon pepper wings I've probably had. Buffalo wings were also good. I ordered a pepperoni slice for $5 and it was pretty tasty! Definitely recommend for a low key pizza, wings and beer night. They also serve Virginia wines. Loved the vibes - they do vinyl nights and there are movies playing on a big screen. Fun group spot.
