The 15 Best Damn Sandwiches in Philly

"This sandwich is an exquisite culmination of Haitian culture and flavor. Prepared with Tasso ham, fried marinated Haitian pork shoulder, pikliz, Creole mustard, brie cheese, and stuffed between a long sourdough roll — it’s not made for the meek of hungry diners." - Ernest Owens

Google
Googled soul food near me and this place popped up. Decided to go ahead and head over since it had 4.7 stars, great reviews and was close by. I get here at 12:36. The establishment is clean and I was the only one there which was great for me as I didn’t have to wait long to place an order. I ordered the medium fried chicken with rice and peas and collard greens as my two sides. This came to $17 according to the listed price. I gave the young lady $20 which she took after confirming my order, but she proceeded to walk away without giving me charge for the twenty. I had to call her back and confirm the price which she agreed yes was $17 and she reluctantly gave me my $3. Mk The wait was about 15-20min which is fine. I believe they cook the chicken made to order which i appreciate. Everything came out hot after about 20 min. Got to the car and checked out the platter and was highly disappointed. $17 for two legs a cup of rice/peas and scoop of collards is insane. I was still hopeful because the money was already spent and I wanted to try somewhere new. The food was very bland. The chicken was fried hard which was good but the flavor of the chicken and even the rice were lacking and needed more love. I had to add basic salt pepper and seasonings to my liking. Maybe that’s something they’re going for i don’t know but it was just not it for me. I didn’t even eat much of it. Maybe the actual Haitian food is better but the soul food needs some work.

I bought the fried fish whiting with rice and beans mac and cheese on the side also jumbo shrimp with fries mac and cheese and greens on the side it all tastes delicious except the shrimp is fried with the shell on, not to my liking. 272 South 52nd Street Philadelphia PA 19039.

The food is sooo good. The best haitian food I’ve had in Philly and it’s closer to home. I live near center city and this is in west Philly ..usually I’d have to travel to the far northeast ..I will be making this my new spot!! I got the black rice and fish and the black rice and stew chicken. The plantains were sweet and savory. So good.

The food tasted great, and the wait time was not too long. You could tell everything was freshly made. The lady at the front had great manners. Most importantly, they take card payment, which is a must nowadays. I wish them continued success and hope to see an extended menu soon!

Left a 5 star review a few months ago and now I’ve changed it. I’ve been going here ever since and have always left satisfied. Now it’s very different the food is very bland and way too expensive for its bland taste and the lady in the front is very rude and blunt compared to its old owners. I’m now learning they are under new management I would not recommend this Resturant any more just by the new owners attitude alone

I travel for work and I can say this is by far the best soul/Haitian food you will find. (Pi bon ke lot restaurant yo). The owner and staff are very friendly and just really makes you comfortable. They make sure they get your order right and it was very delicious. Very clean location. Highly recommend.
