"J&J’s is one of your best dive sports bar options in Bywater, a welcoming, quirky spot full of regulars and a bar lined with TVs, as well as a projector and screen airing the game — including European football. Catch homegrown vendors setting up outside for snacks and enjoy cheap beers." - Eater Staff

Google
I was out exploring the neighborhood when I came across J & J Sports Lounge. This is really a great sports bar. They immediately made me feel welcome with friendly service. The beer was ice cold and very reasonably priced. This is a really good non pretentious place with great service and a very casual atmosphere. A true old fashioned neighborhood bar.

Beer & AC blows ice cold. Fun, early to late safe space for all peeps. The cats run the bar, so get on their good side... (treats)...

Yelp
What a great find in our trip to New Orleans. Service and drinks were strong! Good atmosphere

Yelp
Sweet quiet dive in the Bywater. I come here for the cheap beer and Cheddar Bob. Also really easy talking to the other guest. I also love how they strictly check vaxx info!! The beer selection is better than average. Full bar but I am not grown up enough for cocktails. Parking atleast when I go is always a snap. There is some new outdoor seating ala Covid rules for the smokers mainly. Basically another cool quiet chill authentic dive with some of the coolest regulars. I am not one of them but I appreciate this bar!!!

Yelp
If you're looking for a good neighborhood bar in the Bywater, look no further. Great drink prices, pool table and amazing hospitality! I miss this place so much!

Dakota T.

Yelp
Excellent neighborhood sports bar. Great staff, service, and ambiance. Plus Cheddar Bob.

Yelp
One of the best local neighborhood hidden treasures in NOLA. Keep drinks, excellent tenders, and a great place to watch a game. Particularly during baseball season. Definitely a local drinking hole where you can make some friends that live in the area. I am new to the upper 9th, and very happy I have this place to have a drink without breaking the bank. Pool tables and a outstanding outdoor patio area, definitely in my rotation now, and for the foreseeable future.

Andrea M.

Yelp
I had a blueberry lemon drop martini made just for me. Awesome service and the drinks are very affordable. I love the fact that is off the tourist area and in the local area.

Cathy C.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar, great bartenders, Bloody Marys and beer. Just wait until after the Saints game starts, 'cuz I want MY table.

Yelp
When the sun is starting to rise and a wild rooster crows on the levee, it's a beautiful sight to see the lights on at J&J's. Mainly seeking water, I think my friend and I were among the very last of Halloween revelers still roaming around the city on what was at that point a weekday morning. The bar was very close to closing with most stools turned up onto the bar, but music still faintly played and couple of patrons still lingered. We were greeted with friendliness from those at the bar and behind it, what more could you ask for? A pool table maybe? They got one of those. Lovely place close to the end of the world, much love.

Tom J.

Yelp
Grate bar tender. Music is what you play...and they have people that know Euchre or at least can fake it

kate c.

Yelp
I love this place! A super fun place to be- great atmosphere - wonderful bartenders- just a beautiful bar- super clean - -and a wonderful house cat ! Absolutely you will find me there when I'm in NOLA -a sweet place with killer tacos served out front on some nights!

Steven S.

Yelp
J&J's is a nice, dicey bar on the By water. Unfortunately it's one of these typical, local spots with bartenders that make an obvious effort to differentiate service based on face recognition. I can deal with a regular being served before me: no problem. I can't deal with the crap attitude and condescension I've experienced on 2 occasions in less than a month. what's far worse is that the posted beer prices are different than the actual charge. i.e., a Yuengling and Amber are listed at $3 and I was charged $3.50 on 2 separate occasions. I even asked the bartender, Steve I believe, if the posted prices on the bar were correct Nd he not only gabe me a mouth full of sass, he charged me the higher price. so, here's the thing j@j's, if ur going to give non regulars crap for nothing at least has your sh!t together and charge the right price. picture attached shows WTF I am talking about.

Larry W.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. Went for NFL Sunday and had a great time. We were a group of 6 from Arizona and the owners Jim and Jules were awesome. It was my wife's 60th birthday and Jules brought out 6 Jell-O shots with a candle for lit. Thanks so much for the hospitality. Larry and Kim Williamson

Yelp
My favorite new bar in New Orleans. I thought it was a dump dive from the looks on the outside but its a great little sports bar serving strong drinks, cold beer all for a great price with friendly service. There is also a small smoking patio out back in the yard. Plenty tv's to watch all of your sporting events and a beer selection of beers you cannot get anywhere else in town. I love this place.

Rasheed W.

Yelp
Love this place.. honestly the coolest bar in the city.. Clean restrooms, great vibes, very diverse. Great service. Real locals, the owners take pride in their place. A must go!

Joi B.

Yelp
Another bar I wish was in my neighborhood. Not that there's any shortage of decent bars in my neighborhood, but they are sometimes filled with folks I don't feel much like mingling with (I notice a lot of white slacks and polo shirts and people with intentional tans). Hmmm, by now it sounds like I'm constantly wishing I lived in a different neighborhood. I like my neighborhood, just sayin'. But J & J's ain't in it. How ridiculous would it be to move to a new 'hood for a bar? Not so ridiculous at all, you're thinking. I know you are. So, yeah. I'd come here on the regular if it were in my hood. Is it a destination spot? Well, no. But it's everything I want in a neighborhood bar and the few times I ventured in, I liked what I saw and who I talked to. There are dogs. There are friendly people of all ages that you can talk to. There are nice bartenders. There are cheap drinks.

Ileana O.

Yelp
J&J's is the quintessential NOLA Bywater Dive Bar. No matter the time of day (or night) you can almost always find someone sitting outside the bar, spilling their heart out to friends (or strangers), while smoking a cigarette and petting a dog. The bar is basically 24 hrs a day and the bartenders are some of the best and friendliest in town. Kim is by far one of my faves in the whole city! It's mostly a local neighborhood crowd, but if you're from out of town, the patrons and staff will make you still feel very welcome. Drinks are cheap and boy are they strong. When the cool weather rolls around, J&J's makes the best Hot Buttered Rum in town, BY FAR! If you're ever trying to decide where to watch Saints games during the seasons, J&J's is a great spot to go to. They usually have drink specials, some of the most enthusiastic WHO DAT fans around, and free food that the owners cook up themselves. Whenever friends come in town and visit, I always take them to J&J's so they can get that Cheers bar aesthetic but with a NOLA twist.

Anthony A.

Yelp
If you want the genuine bywater experience, come here. 24 hours, there will always be neighborhood people shooting the sh*t and hanging out here. For better or for worse, you will definitely see the bywater on full display here. A lot of the best and worst of what you can get in New Orleans right in one place. The chillers and coolest people you will ever meet will be hanging out here. From time to time you might see a lot of people who never really made something of themself taking out their anger on a random customer. One of the important things to know if you're visiting from out of town is that an unspoken rule in New Orleans is that you've got to go along to get along. Read the room and don't disrupt the vibe. It's not the most welcoming place, and a lot of people may be mistrustful of you or even hostile, but some will be friendly. A lot of people have been here for a long time, so they come from a time when trouble could pop up easily, and you just couldn't trust everyone you meet. It was a rougher world back then. So if you go here and people decide they just don't like you, it's not your fault, that's just how it is. You're basically gonna have a good time here or a bad time, and if you have a bad time, you won't know why and it won't seem fair. But hey, that's New Orleans.

Rene D.

Yelp
I came because this is where my lovely dog was rescued from a torrential rainstorm (and a horrible case of fleas and heartworm!) and into my loving arms. What will make me come back is their great jukebox, reasonable prices and down-to-earth bartenders.

Marielle S.

Yelp
I feel like I describe every bar I visit as a "neighborhood place", but that's exactly what J&J's is. I think I had been here before- the bar area looked familiar, but I'm not sure. There was a game on the night we stopped in and a lot of the regulars were sitting and enjoying it. They serve basic drinks here and they also have Schlitz in a can, which is pretty unusual and random. Pool tables in the back and nice bartenders make it a good place to hang out.

Meg H.

Yelp
just realized I've never reviewed one of the bars I spend most of my time out in. I love it here! lol warts and all && there are a few of sometimes (borderline) out of control regulars who make it hard. but I love them too! they have free food a lot. saints games and holidays are a good time to hit that up. they've got pool too if you're into that (one table). I love the pac man game. lol I sit there for hours nursing a whiskey ginger (that is -ahem- three dollars for a double. like what?) because I don't want to get up and die. should I even admit this on Yelp? the convenience store across the street has solid fried food and sandwiches if you need that on your way home.

Kathie J.

Yelp
This place is a favorite of mine. Low key fun people. The owners are the best! Friendly to all who enter. Sports are on all the TVs, which at last count totalled 9 nice sized ones and one really large 100" or more in the rear, along with a pool table and slots. There's always something entertaining going on. Come on out and check in to see for yourself!!

Chance S.

Yelp
This is the best dive bar in the Bywater. It's laid back most of the time and the owners are awesome. They are personable and do whatever possible to cater your needs. There are a ton of locals, but that shouldn't detour tourists that are going through the Bywater. They open at 9AM and stay open till the last person leaves. There isn't a single bad bartender and they all leave you with good conversation. I highly recommend this place if you just want to have a few beers to get away.

Julie A.

Yelp
This is my-my-my-my bar. It's like a fucked up version of Cheers, because I've come in there with fears and also tears- all were drowned out by booze (preferably Gin, though) The people know me and I know them- What else would one want in a local bar than to just be around genuinely GOOD people? The owners Jim and Julie are really really nice people, and they treat their staff nicely which is definitely refreshing because the staff ACTUALLY like WORKING there! What are the odds? That being treated with respect by your employer would actually get you somewhere? Crazy. Oh, did I forget to mention that the booze is cheap? Yeah, there's that aspect too.

Sally D.

Yelp
I come into this place mostly late night and am never disappointed. the crowd here is chill and all people are down with all other kinds of people. it is just your classic neighborhood spot. the owners are really good people. they are very into soccer so you can come catch any game. I watched several games during the 2015 women's World Cup and the crowd was awesome and the owners brought out noisemakers, etc. I went to the finals in Canada and Julie (one of the owners) let me borrow her supporters club scarf to wear and represent at the game. good people! to get a taste of the neighbor, stop in here and be sure to tip well!

Tim B.

Yelp
We were visiting the area from out of town and were treated like locals. The service was great thanks to Ariel , our bartender. This is a laid back neighborhood sports bar and a great place to spend an an afternoon or evening away from the crowds in the Quarter.

Elijah C.

Yelp
Best prices and friendly, genuine service provided here. One of the best bars in town.

Urs v.

Yelp
I love J&J's. It's a great neighborhood bar in the Bywater. Jim and Jules are excellent hosts and wonderful people. You will always have a fun time there. Challenge Jim at the pool table or join in to the theme parties they throw there or hang at the bar have a chat with Mike and just feel good. And of course watch all the sports events on the TV's there.

Gregory G.

Yelp
This place rocks. A divey neighborhood gem with a motley assortment of colorful characters. Arrived around Midnight on a Saturday and there was even a really good taco stand outside in front. Corrina the tattooed bartender was super cool and kept the strong drinks and conversation flowing. A chill laid back vibe here, plus a small smoking patio out back. really, just like the living room you wish you had. Will be back soon!

Katie A.

Yelp
I found this bar at the recommendation of a friend about 2 months after I moved to the city, and boy was I lucky. My very first visit happened to be Customer Appreciation Day: They were literally giving away a keg's worth of Abita Amber. Needless to say, I fell instantly (and drunkenly) in love. Have no fear, though; even when they're not giving away booze, you can get good and shmammered for just a few bucks. In just a few short months of being a regular, I managed to meet and chat with most (if not all) of the regulars, bartenders, owners, and dogs. It has a really chill and friendly vibe--like you can have a few too many and talk to whomever and not remember their name the next time you see them, and it's okay because they probably don't remember yours either. What really makes it for me is what happened the other night. I hadn't been in a couple months because I can't bring my puppy anymore, and I walked in to find my FAVORITE bartender in the whole world, Mel, working, and she remembered me. Another bartender came by to ask why I hadn't been in recently, and several of the regulars approached with the same question. What a feeling! Like seeing old friends again. A true neighborhood bar. Great for watching sports with several high-quality TV's around. Also a great patio area when the weather is nice. Very smokey, but hey, it's New Orleans. I only take off 1 star because occasionally the crowd turns kind of metal and when they control the jukebox, it gets really obnoxiously loud.

Blake B.

Yelp
Neighborhood bar in the bywater. Friendly customers (knew we were out of Towner's yet still welcomed us in) and good staff. This bar was pretty much the typical locals only bar: two unknowns walk in, every head in the place look at you like you're from Mars, we retreat to a corner and plan our next move. Within about 30 minutes we were buying shots and had shots bought for us. Met some people in that bar that I look forward to seeing again on our next trip. Rules of the road are the same here as in any neighborhood bar: respect the place, act like you belong there and they will welcome you eventually.

Tyler H.

Yelp
From the 3.50 envie's to the amazing staff and awesome owners, this bar is the best. Add to that the great music selection and good drinks and you've got yourself one of the best bars in the bywater. Definitely one of my favorites. They have pool and electronic poker games. The pool table is only 75 cent and it's over by the outdoor seating area. Yea I said outdoor seating area. Love this bar.

Cameron K.

Yelp
Cool little place to hang out in the Bywater district of New Orleans. Located in the local hood, this bar is like most of the other ones around the area, eclectic and unique. The patrons are exactly the same. All different kinds of people blend in and no one really cares. If only Houston wasn't so anal and was more like New Orleans. No one gives a shit here and I love it. Be who you are. Be nice or leave. That's how they roll in the Big Easy. Anyway, the drinks are good, bartenders are nice and they have one of those fancy-shmancy digital jukeboxes. The other bars around here don't and those that do have the CDs mislabeled!! They also have a pool table in here, lots of tables and NFL network for the football games. I will return

Daria K.

Yelp
I love this place I love this place I love this place. Though my experience in the south left something to be desired, the one thing I miss is this bar and the people in it. It was a little piece of home, mixed with some southern hospitality, cheap drinks, and dogs...sitting at the bar. The people who work here, and hang out here, are amazing, unique and fun. I always got involved in an interesting conversation. The best part? When the shit hit the fan and I needed a bit of home, they opened at 9 am.

Shannon L.

Yelp
I went to this little Bywater Gem last night. Had a great time. The wine was cold and served in the correct glass but more importantly. The people were sooo very nice. The drinks were cold and cheap. Its kinda like a Vortex. I came in the bar at 10:30 i left at 5:30am ha!

Stan S.

Yelp
This bar, which was previously named the Yellow Moon (still has a large mural painted on the outside) is now J J's Sports lounge. It's an excellent ByWater sports bar, lots of big screen TV's very pleasant, local crowd and the drinks are cheap enough. Some refer to it as a dive bar, but its way too clean and well kept for that description, now BJ's just up the street, that a dive bar. Part of what some refer to as the "Bermuda Triangle of Bywater Bars", and it is on my personal list of Bywater Bar crawls.

Bryan G.

Yelp
This is my go to spot to watch Saints games in New Orleans. They have super cheap beer during games and a lot of old drunk guys yelling, so it's pretty much perfect. It's also the closest bar to my house. Pros: There are two signs saying Blatz above this bar and one tiny one saying "J & J's Sports Bar", so to me this bar is called Blatz. One time my friend got drunk and stepped on a dog here accidentily. The bartender through the dude with the dog out and, as he was being thrown out, he told my friend the dog had been coming to the bar for longer than my friend had lived in New Orleans. The Blues Brothers. Tons of crazy bywater dudes. Dogs. Like 85 cats.

Michelle W.

Yelp
This bar is considered pretty much the bar to go to in my neighborhood. Great bartenders, especially Carmen. No watered down drinks like a few places in this area. Nice little touches like free donuts or cookies for their customers. They also have really good coffee in the mornings. There's 2 pool tables and a little courtyard in the back. Also there's nice big screen TVs to watch the Games on. They also have a few board games, darts, slot machines. The clientele is varied and always interesting. Especially the regulars. This bar has a great vibe I find missing in the other area bars. All in all this is Just a great laid back place that's a lot of fun. I wish they served burgers though

Lynn B.

Yelp
Best bar in the bywater, hands down. Jim and Julie are the best. Interesting regulars and Carmen is the BOMB!

Kaylee H.

Yelp
This place has 1) friendly service 2) cheap beer with a great selection 3) amazing food outside. The staff was really nice to us even though the place was full of what seemed to be locals (and we aren't). The ONLY complaint is that there was an intoxicated regular in there telling other patrons "F*** you" for no reason at all besides the fact that they were cheering for the Astros. We were all watching the Stros play Boston, and he became angry and aggressive. He continually made comments to my boyfriend trying to start a fight. He was talking about his tattoos, cussing at him, etc. We didn't say a word back to this dude. We ended up leaving because we couldn't take it anymore. It's unfortunate because we thought this place was cool and would've stayed longer.

Cynthia I.

Yelp
The owners run this excellent bar! The locals are so friendly, the food is delish & the ladies restroom gets 5 stars for being clean, cool & bywater glam!

Trent R.

Yelp
i wandered into this place seven months ago, looking for a beer and a place to charge my phone in my old (and new again) neighborhood. i first went to vaughn's but was quickly made to feel like an outsider by the bartender and her patrons. i left after ten minutes, and it was a good thing because i found j&j's a block away. the bartender was ally, and she was personable, telling me about the bar and that i should come by for saints games, as preseason was about to begin. i took her up on the offer and didn't miss a game until the playoffs, when i visited friends instead. (i have since stopped drinking and sadly don't have much of a reason to go to bars any more) jim and julie serve great food during every game. you never know what it is but there is always enough and always salads and breads and fries and mashed potatoes and dips and more to go with wings or burgers or tacos or ribs. i get crazy during saints games and even so was made to feel very welcome by the patrons of this great neighborhood bar. one specific couple was curiously nice to me and it was always a pleasure to root for nola beside them. i often got $2 pints of pbr and when i had a few extra bucks in my weekly beer budget, $3 pints of nola brewery hopzilla. that's the stuff! the prices are great, the food is always home cooked and tasty, the locals are welcoming, and the staff and owners are awesome. i even ran into one of the bartenders out in the quarter a couple weeks ago and we talked for quite a while. the folks at j&j's are friendly everywhere. thank you for welcoming this madman, j & j! may you and yours be blessed always.

Kyle T.

Yelp
Nice bartender and cool, local clientelle. The owner puts food out for the Saints game and the place draws a really eclectic crowd. I went here because of the online reviews and was not disappointed.

LadyRemington J.

Yelp
Visiting from Florida, but needed to find a bar to watch the Packers who were playing at the same time the Saints were on, not an easy task here in New Orleans, I called and Jim and Julie reserved a TV for us! Bonus they have a pot luck on game day and every thing was delicious! Super nice and accomodating! By the way, BOTH Packers and Saints WON!

J A.

Yelp
spent about 6 hours here drinking cocktails and watching football. good times. friendly regulars and bartender. they have a bunch of chargers behind the counter if you need to charge your phone. 6 hours worth of drinks for my wife and I and the final tab was like $30. win.

James M.

Yelp
Cheap beer and sports close to my house. Plan on watching lots of NFL at J&J's this season.

Ruby K.

Yelp
I was very disappointed when i got there saturday and found out metal mania was no more. I look forward to this every week, i hope in the near future it returns

Brian L.

Yelp
We were not locals to this area but read great reviews and so decided to come because we were staying in the area. The fat bartender with the beard and ponytail was not good. Incredibly rude every time we tried to order. We just wanted to hang out
