"In case you missed it: Jane the Bakery, which already has a handful of locations across San Francisco, added a shop in Tiburon, the Marin Independent Journal reports. Called Jane/Marin, the business was previously Sweet Things bakery owned by Marsha Lasky and Sharon Leach since 1977. When the duo went to retire, they sold the business to Jane the Bakery owner and founder Amanda Michael. Stop by 1 Blackfield Drive in Tiburon for a menu that mixes Sweet Things favorites and Jane the Bakery classics." - Lauren Saria

Ideally, I'd give Jane/Marin a 3.5/5. Jane/Marin offers a convenient location for a coffee and pastry break. Nestled in a strip mall with various stores, Jane/Marin provides a casual atmosphere for a quick bite. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which is a plus. The bakery itself is quite colorful and cheerful. The flower pots outside and the bright green chairs create a vibrant first impression. Inside, the wall art explodes with shades of yellow, orange, and red. However, a minor quirk – finding the restroom can be a bit of a challenge. They don't have a dedicated public restroom, but the staff will kindly point you towards one in the back office if you ask. Jane/Marin offers a classic selection of bakery treats – biscuits, cupcakes, croissants, muffins, breads - you name it. They also have a full coffee and tea menu. My friend tried their turmeric latte and a sweet treat (the name escapes me). Unfortunately, the pastry was quite hard and needed reheating, and he wasn't a huge fan of the flavor either. His turmeric latte also seemed light on the turmeric, tasting more like steamed milk. On the other hand, my experience was much better. I ordered a chai latte and their banana bread. The staff was very friendly and readily warmed up the banana bread for me. It was absolutely delicious – light, delicate, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. I should have grabbed a slice to go! My chai latte was good, with a nice chai flavor that wasn't overpowering. However, it did have a lot of froth, which can be a bit much for some. Overall, Jane/Marin offers a decent selection of coffee and pastries in a cheerful setting. The staff is friendly, and the banana bread is a must-try. However, there's room for improvement with some menu items, and the lack of a dedicated restroom can be a bit inconvenient. If you're in the area and looking for a casual coffee break, it's worth a visit, but keep your expectations in check.

For 30 years, Michelle Mason at Jane (formerly Sweet Things) has been making and decorating our families’ cakes for all occasions. They are always delicious, but Michelle’s artistry blows us away. In addition to being an incredible artist, Michelle has a unique talent for coming up with creative ideas. My husband and I share a birthday, and because he was turning 81 and me 75, I suggested she write, “Happy Birthday to Us.” Michelle asked me about our hobbies and interests and proceeded to create the cake in this photo, complete with logos of our favorite stores, pictures of our hobbies, names of family members, and the Buckeye, where we had the luncheon . Thank you, Michelle and all of the bakers at Jane, for giving cake- joy to our community!

Came in here to get something sweet on my way home … I was the next person to be serviced and an additional employee, older woman, came out and asked the person behind me what they needed and began to help them totally ignoring me. As a black person patronizing your business it shouldn’t matter what color my skin is. I should be treated with the same respect as everyone else. I decided to not engage in NEGATIVE behavior and simply noted to myself that I would not return 🤬

Stopped by near the end of the day. Some of the tables were clean. The service seemed stiff. Still tipped because everyone is doing their best. Cookie was very hard, almost but not quite stale (confusing because some reviews say they run out of some pastries frequently). Pound cake was nice. Bread was hearty but poorly wrapped. A little short on value for the cost.

Great, friendly neighborhood Bakery/Cafe. We wouldn't get our family's Birthday cakes anywhere else!

Once a premier bakery with excellent service this is now owned and run by Jane with her name on the products. Buying an Apple pie or Cherry pie used to be easy. Just walk in and they'd have them on the counter. But since the takeover I went and the person at the counter said "You have to call a day in advance". Inconvenient but next time I DID call the day before and was told I needed to order TWO days in advance. What is this all about? To save money by only selling pies baked to order so there is no loss from unsold pies? I'm sure bakeries run on slim margins but somehow Jane made an expensive remodel of the store. And after my poor experience wouldn't even bother to call me back. Congratulations Jane, yo just lost a regular customer.

Google
I’ve been going to sweet things my entire life. So completely disappointed in the change. The quality of the baked goods and coffee is mediocre at best, prices have increased (understand this is how everything is going), service is bad, untrained staff who don’t have basic social skills, and they’ve gotten rid of all my favorite items that I looked forward to making a trip to this spot to enjoy. I have no idea why the choices were made to completely change the vibe, offerings and people but I will not be going to patronize any longer unless I hear they’ve repaired the damage. I know I am not alone, and see others that have made similar comments. You can’t ignore the community.

Workers and management were beyond uptight, along with the local marin residents. Pastries overpriced and dry. I was disappointed.

Yelp
THE MOST SUPERB and SCRUMPTIOUS COCONUT CAKE EVER! It was for my nephew's birthday and he loves everything coconut... he's an island boy. We've had a lot of coconut cakes and Jane baked a coconut cake that actually tasted like coconut! I told them the more coconut the better and Jane delivered! We called around SF and Marin for a coconut cake and the only bakery who would bake us this customized cake was Jane. We are so, so pleased and grateful. My nephew also wanted a particular character on the cake but Jane really upped their game to bake a stand-alone special cookie with this character on it because they didn't want the character on the cake to take away from the extra coconut flakes in the frosting...this was BRILLIANT! My nephew loved the cookie! The total experience from ordering the cake, the customer service (so friendly and accommodating) to the final product was outstanding! They made my nephew's birthday a smashing success! I've also been there for meeting friends for coffee and we always include a bakery item... fantastic bakery items and great coffee! We LOVE Jane in Tiburon!!

Kristine K.

Yelp
Our first time here was to pick up a Too Good to Go bag, which included a savory sesame bread, 2 sweet pastries, and a cookie. The staff were very accommodating of my nut allergy and swapped out a pistachio pastry from the bag for a chocolate coffee one for me. The shop was cozy and had several indoor tables, and kid friendly with children's books in the window. Everything was yummy! We will be back to try the triple ginger cookie and other treats.

Rachel H.

Yelp
Twice as nice, Jane at the Cove has taken over and expanded the original Sweet Things space, leaving some favorite treats, increasing its bakery offerings and doubling its store footprint. You'll still find a lot of their "old school" Sweet Things original baked goods, alongside new breads and treats. Jane's is relatively close to the freeway, so worth a venture if your sweet tooth is calling. Today I needed a cafe with internet access but with actually good desserts (no thanks Starbucks) and solid tea and espresso drinks, so I came to Jane's and grabbed a lemon blueberry slice, an oat milk chai, and got some work done. I found my cake chilled and needing time to sit out and soften, but although not the perfect temperature, it was moist, sweet and flavorful. The new remodel at Jane's bakery has modernized the original space, but left some of the qualities and desserts that made the former Sweet Things sweet and nostalgic.

Trudy T.

Yelp
No smile, no hello, no service. Asked what was the filling in the browned butter sandwich cookie. Response was " butter sandwich cookie". It was not good. No butter flavor and filling was something made with powdered sugar. Also had a ginger crisp cookie which was the best of my experience which isn't saying much. Maybe I chose the wrong items for this bakery, but I won't come back due to the dour service.

Ambar C.

Yelp
The staff is very friendly. The coffee is good. There are a lot of Sweet Things items still on the menu. There is more seating. The decor is cute, with lots of cookbooks, travel books, and other gift items. There is also ample parking at The Cove private lot. Unfortunately, I was let down by everything I ate. Maybe this was because I went at the end of the day, but my friend and I got 4 separate items that were stale, dry, and lacking in flavor. We ordered a raspberry bar and three cupcakes. Each item was especially dense, and we ended up throwing half of our order away. Given the average price of each item was $4.50, it was not worth the price. The raspberry bar was lacking in flavor, either sweet or tart. The crumble on top tasted like sand. The cupcakes were hard to chew through, but the buttercream frosting was decent. Overall, I would not go out of my way to come back the next time I am craving sweet treats.

Yelp
This is a really good spot for a bakery/ cafe, given the traffic in and out of Blackie's pasture. I had heard of Jane the Bakery in San Francisco, so was eager to try this Marin outpost. The space is light and attractive. Staff are friendly. There are a few nice outdoor tables, which is useful after a dog walk at Blackie's pasture. To me, the winner was the bread--a whole wheat sourdough boule (I think, I don't remember the exact name) that was both hearty and light, with a great chew and which toasted up nicely the next day. My daughters didn't really like the cookie they got, but I think that was probably the sprinkle of sea salt, which is more of an adult taste. This is a nice addition to the area!

Malcolm R.

Yelp
Jane discontinued making that Chocolate-Cherry-Hazelnut bread. I can't imagine why they did that, but they did.

Tom B.

Yelp
This is one of those bakeries you cannot pass up! In the parking lot by Nugget Market, but skip Nugget and come here for delightful sweet things. The variety of cakes, pastries cookies, and more will make your mouth water eyeing the beautifully made things in the counter displays. Just plain YUM! I got an assortment of cookies, boxed exquisitely, to take to a friend for an after lunch treat and they were absolutely delicious. Do not miss this small piece of bakery heaven!

Robin W.

Yelp
I've purchased from this bakery both before and after Jane took it over, and it's better than ever. I thought it was a typo when I wanted to order delivery for a party - $2.99! Of course a tip on top of that, but still a bargain.

Sara R.

Yelp
The old lady behind the counter with the glasses had the worst attitude! She was so rude and disrespectful when I was asking her if one of the cakes comes in slices. Just answer the question, what's with the attitude?! They also have nothing in their store. I won't be surprised if it goes out of business.

Gail B.

Yelp
Delicious pecan pie! It was amazing & I am happy that I bought it! It was loaded with pecans and beyond my expectations!

Yi H.

Yelp
Service level leaves a lot to be desired. Leaving two stars because some of their pastries are worthwhile though this location also discontinued the dark chocolate cherry loaf which is a bummer. The last straw for me was this morning when I was blatantly skipped over for service. There are plenty of other bakeries in southern marin.

RANDEE B.

Yelp
I bought a loaf of the chocolate hazelnut bread and ate 1/2 a loaf in one sitting! I toasted and didn't put anything on it and it was wonderful. Someplace between delicious crusty bread and chocolate cake. Really a treat!

Karl K.

Yelp
A great add to Tiburon. Pleasant, family bakery feel, table seating, very nice little place. Got a cheesecake here that was really delicious and will go back for other baked goods for sure. Service is friendly and efficient, helpful - overall experience at Jane's was great! Endorse!

Ivy C.

Yelp
I love this bakery. We've been coming here ever since we've moved to Marin. We get out cookies, birthday cakes, birthday cupcakes, Thanksgiving pumpkin pies here. My kids love their lemon loaf and their sugar cookies.

Naj A.

Yelp
Amazing sweets! Yummy croissants and other items! Friendly staff too! Love coming here it puts a smile on my face every time not to mention the yummy sweets

elizabeth s.

Yelp
This rating is specific to the Cobb salad I ordered. Overall, the salad was good but it was served with uncooked bacon. Disgusting! I showed the bacon to one of the people working there who took it to the manager. When I was leaving I asked what the managers response was about the uncooked bacon. I was told the salad comes from the city and they would let them know about the uncooked bacon.

Emmy M.

Yelp
Haven't tried the pastries yet, though just tasted a cardamom bun from the Jane Bakery in the City, which was truly one of the best things I've eaten. The Halloween-themed mini cupcakes we ordered for a party were fine, hence the 3 stars. No better or worse than what we might have picked up at an upscale grocery store for half the price. Wouldn't go this route again.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Get off your phone and try the blondie RIGHT NOW!!! So delicious. The mocha cake was a hit with my coworkers during our holiday party

Deborah F.

Yelp
Store remodeled and expanded. Lost is coziness. Been there twice in the past two week. Both times saw people walk in looked around , and walked out without buying. A lady walks in to return pastries just purchased. . Say they were stale. Selection not nearly as nice as in the past. Will definitely not be returning after being a regular customers for many years.

Yelp
Grab your hats! Jane is in Marin! Jane, also of Fillmore acclaim, has taken over the space formerly used by Sweet Things. But Jane brings a whole new level of gastronomic delight with a very broad selection of whole loaf breads from their own artisan bakery, breakfast options galore, and other sweets for later in the day. Using Equator beans, a La Marzocco double group espresso machine, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, a skilled barista, your morning coffee will be the best it can be! For the shoppers among us, there are unique books, gifts, jams, and other sundries to keep for yourself or gift to those you love. There are a few tables inside to chat with friends and tables outside to soak in the Bay Area's best weather. Get up and dance! Over to Jane's. In Marin.

Yelp
Very disappointing. I ordered four cookies at three dollars each. They were stale and just not as good as they used to be before Jane took over. I won't be returning.

Christine R.

Yelp
Thank you Sweet Things for saving the day, as I wanted something special for my daughter's big day graduating Class of 2020 Bowdoin with a Neuroscience degree. We were all devastated not being there due to Covid, and to witness her walk on stage and celebrate with her friends, faculty, and people who inspired her the last 4 memorable years of college life. With such a huge accomplishment, she deserved only the best aka special treats from an exceptional place that knows customized/specialty baked goods. They've been in business for many decades, and I grew up seeing "Sweet Things" pastries everywhere from SF to Marin to the entire Bay Area. I figured this will definitely cheer her up. I took a picture of the cookies, didn't have time to take the cupcakes when her siblings bit into them like it was their special day - SMH. She was ecstatic for a quick second, then back to being sad, then happy again due to a roller coaster of emotions. I totally feel her pain, it's a huge milestone, yet we couldn't be on campus to celebrate in Maine with endless lobsters. Go figure, a Cali kid who went to Maine for college, and loved it. In many ways, it resembles the beauty of Marin and the stunning coastal landscape. Thanks again for making the delicious cookies & cupcakes unforgettable, and staying open during this crisis. I love supporting local businesses and always will. 'Til we meet again ~ happy baking & see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

Yelp
Surprised this place only has 4 stars! We were super in love with the raspberry almond torte we got. It had marzipan in it (I think?) and was just divine. Not too thick with marzipan, if that makes sense but a little bit lighter. We'll definitely be back!

Christine P.

Yelp
I wish they could bring more of the Jane line from San Francisco. Those are their best items. The baguettes, croissants and kouin aman are all amazing. Please bring more items you have from SF :)

Bora_Bora_1 R.

Yelp
Delicious! I wish we had a Jane on the Peninsula. Friendly staff. Great treats and even our doggies loved their puppy cookies we bought. We will definitely be back!

Deb S.

Yelp
This little bakery/cafe is absolutely adorable and filled with all kinds of yummy goodies. From the Breakfast Bread Pudding Muffin, the Sugary Blueberry Muffin, the Gingersnap Cookie, and the Apricot Hamentaschen to the warm & velvety Guittard Hot Cocoa - so scrumptious. The vibe is warm and friendly and welcoming. If you have a hankering for a sweet bite, this is your pit stop. If you need something to read, they also have a lovely selection of good take-aways. Loved it.

Martin W.

Yelp
My favorite cake shop just get a bit less Favorit. They decided to discontinue the delicious strawberry mascarpone tart which was so close to European pieces that I almost could eat a whole tart while I'm there (well I only did one piece, but uncoils lol). It was a perfect ratio between sweet, fruity and deliciousness! So yummy. Please reconsider and bring ihr back it is Sonja's to get a good fruit piece in the states!

Wendy K.

Yelp
I come here fairly often and really love the neighborhood feel. The pastries are tasty (I usually get the blueberry cream pastry) and drinks are good. I love the ambiance with senior people greeting each other and chatting like old friends. I sit here and work on my computer, but I seem to be the only one doing so and I love it. It's my happy place.

Eugene M.

Yelp
I want to give Sweet Things a special shout-out for staying open during the recent power outage to serve the community. After four days of no electricity/heat/internet/warm food/etc., it was such a welcome treat to enjoy a cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. For a brief few minutes, everything felt normal again and I felt like I could get on with the rest of my day with a more positive attitude. So thank you again, Sweet Things. Not sure how you and your kind staff were able to pull this off. Just know, that me and many others in Southern Marin consider you community heroes. Thanks for providing us much needed light during this dark time. BTW, the coffee and cookie were delicious!

Pam H.

Yelp
We loved and recommended to others Sweet Things. But now as Jane's the coziness and warm assistance behind the counter is lost. Also the prices for their pies is outrageous! An apple pie is $50.00!!

Maureen E.

Yelp
Don't expect to be greeted at the door. You will most likely be met with a glare like "what do you Want?" Not welcoming at all. I know it's hard to show a welcoming face with half our faces covered, but a simple "hello" would work just fine. So, customer service is two thumbs down. I mentioned to them had specific pastries to order and 1 mocha. Wasn't a hard order. While one lady made my mocha, an older lady just stood at the counter avoiding all eye contact. She could have easily helped bag our pastries while her associate made my mocha. But instead this older lady stood there avoiding us till 2 other customers walked in- then she decided to work. By the time my drink was made, I told the lady my pastry order and she was lostttttt. I had to repeat which cookie and cupcake over and over. Ended up getting the wrong ones anyways. She kept bagging one then going back to the register to ring my order despite me reminding her she forgot half of my order. It was a mess. I honestly feel the lady helping me was rushed and stressed and it makes sense, it didn't look like she had much support from the older lady working there. Come on guys! Support your fellow coworkers. Get the customers moving and you won't have to worry about a clog of ppl in line. Oh and a simple "hi how can I help you" goes a looonngggg way. Anyways, I give two stars. Prices were decent and the pastries were good.

Manuel G.

Yelp
As the name says Sweet Things , has lots of them ! I wanna try them all . On a weekend morning is nice to get a nice cup of coffee with nothing but silence ‍ But is to silent , a nice smile would be nice to receive customers ! For now. I am giving 4 stars, I will come back and see if it was just too early !

Christina M.

Yelp
Never had Sweet Things before but just tried it for the first time, and can say I'm glad I did! I had the red velvet, pumpkin, and vanilla flavors. They were moist, sweet (but not too sweet), and delicious. Can't wait to try more flavors!

Spencer Q.

Yelp
Desserts: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Overall: Not sure I'll be back based upon the portion size I received. The extended review... Desserts: Smores Meringue Tart - So the size of the slice I got was miniscule. I was expecting maybe a size that was either 1/6 or 1/8 of the tart but I must have received 1/10 or even 1/12 the size of the tart. The flavor was good though there was a very sweet effect on the crust which was a bit overpowering. Strawberry Marscapone Tart - The visual of this was lovely but the flavor was interesting. Wasn't a fan but wasn't really also a hater of it. And the size of this slice was bigger so it was interesting to see the disparity in the slice cuts. Service: Friendly service for sure. Ambiance: It's a good place to have a slice of something and have a chat. Reminds me of a kitchen setting.

Ellie O.

Yelp
Fantastic gift shop !! Best frames , French tea , so good , candles , books , jewelry and many other unique finds . I count on this magical shop for gifts and they never disappoint. I must admit , I often leave with gifts for myself , not being able to resist . I have bought a few weddings gifts & they wrap it lovely . I like the Italian line , Ortigia , soaps , lotions , candies . Without exception , I receive charming service . Such interesting ladies worked there . And the customers are also fun . Sweet things right next door !! Check out this little secret find !!

Lorrie B.

Yelp
Met a friend at Sweet Things this morning. The bakery was very busy (even after 10:30 am) but efficiently run. Because of some of the negative reviews, I didn't expect much but the blueberry muffin I bought was fresh, moist, not too sweet. They were continuously restocking the case with fresh baked goods.

E. R.

Yelp
I'll preface this by saying that I absolutely hate to give less than stellar reviews to small businesses that are trying to make it. I bought a small chocolate cake over the holidays and it was very tasteless, grainy, and went sour after 2 days. It was all chocolate, but if I had closed my eyes and tasted it, I would have no idea it was chocolate. It wasn't flavorful or very sweet. The price for it was crazy at $38 but I thought it must be fantastic and it was a holiday indulgence. I wish I had purchased the $15 Rubicon cake from Safeway which is the same size, but it's tastier and reasonably priced. The staff were all nice. The shop is a bit small, cramped, dated. Maybe I will give them another shot one day, with a different type of cake. I'm sure they have some better things.

Peddie A.

Yelp
Where to get an actual cake? Not a torte or a tart or oversized pastry but a cake like a layered one or not but a big birthday party cake. Here. Sweet things. Fresh lemon layered cake with a meringue topping. Not sickly sweet but fresh lemony and good. Decent doable yummy. Not epic or stellar but absolutely enjoyable. And truthfully part of the enjoyment was the lovely lady at the Larkspur bakery site who took my order by phone. Accommodating polite and weighed in on which cake she enjoyed and why, her input made the experience nice. Didn't make the cake taste any different but it felt good.

Halle O.

Yelp
These ladies absolutely killed it! We did a "Tiger King" themed birthday for our friend Lori and they had the perfect custom cake for us in 4 days. Plus the prices were great ($60 including delivery) and the cake tasted amazing!! I attached some of our fun party pics below. Thanks Sweet Things :)

Greg R.

Yelp
Sweet things makes the best shortbread I've had since my mom is no longer with us. Delicious, and it tastes like home!

Luca T.

Yelp
Their Black Magic Cake is one of the greatest chocolate cakes you will ever eat. period.

Katy P.

Yelp
Got a Buche de Noel for my daughter's birthday... wanted to be able to spend the time on decorating it. Did not expect it to be so incredibly delicious. Maybe the best chocolate cake I've had, certainly in recent memory. Guests were wowed and there wasn't a crumb left after about 10 minutes. Pick up was easy, courteous, and quick.

Christina L.

Yelp
Love this little bakery. I came in to purchase some treats for my friend and his girlfriend. This bakery is in a shopping center and parking is pretty easy to come by. It was my first time coming in but have heard everyone rave on about their treats. My opinion is solely based on the presentation of the sweets... I don't drink milk or eggs. I ordered quite a few things. I don't remember exactly what I ordered lol. Total came out to 50 dollars (including a latte that's not in the pictures). I gave a few nibbles to my aunt and mother... They had only positive things to say about the cupcakes and cookies. Try the red-velvet or the chocolate fudge cake.

Genevieve M.

Yelp
Pretty good stuff, BUT they Refrigerate their cupcakes. Um...isn't that a basic law of cupcakes?! You do NOT cool them. Totally ruins the taste and texture. Cookies were good Coffee was weak. Solid 3.5

Rachel C.

Yelp
This place is simple to review. YUM! YUM! YUM! All kinds of beautiful & tasty baked goods that will make your mouth water just seeing them. Tasting them is even better! YUM! YUM! YUM!

Jen W.

Yelp
mmm...strawberry cupcake...sooooo...good...! so this is one of our main staples when we head out north...we've always gotta make a stop at sweet things. why? 2 items...the strawberry cupcakes and the ice cream cookie. super junky...but super moist and tasty. the strawberry cupcake: yummy cake made with real strawberries...the frosting is the best frosting i have ever had! the only word i can think of to describe it is that it taste oh so real...it's like stuffing your face with fresh strawberries... the ice cream cookie: your basic sugar cookie...the shapes and designs depend on the season. i remember wifey taking me here for the first time...she told me i had to try this cookie they had which was covered with frosting. my first thought was blech! but i took her word for it and gave it a whirl...the cookie is just freakin amazing! it's soft...the frosting is soft...decadently sweet. YUM! and...i just found out that we have one in the city...great...well, strawberry cupcakes here i come!!!
