"The seolleongtang, ox bone soup, remains a longtime favorite at Jangmo Jip. Orange County food writers have written about it for years. But Jangmo Jip’s other soups, such as the soothing samgyetang, or ginseng chicken soup with purple rice, and the beef brisket, are worthwhile. Most people order soup, but other popular items include the tender mandu and pork belly bossam wrapped in lettuce seasoned with ssamjang." - Jenn Tanaka

Hidden gem in Buena Park. One of the best Korean beef bone broth soup in town. Price is reasonable ($16.55) and all the side dishes tasted homemade. It gets very busy during lunch hour. Service was excellent. Parking is free is the shared parking lot. Highly recommend.

Date of Visit: 04/24/2025 – Around 6:30 PM I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at this restaurant was deeply disappointing and needs to be addressed. While the food itself was average and service time reasonable, the issue began when it came time to pay. When I asked for the check, the server initially brought over a handwritten slip on yellow paper with no itemized pricing, no taxes, and no transparency—just a vague summary of what we ordered. I requested a proper receipt showing detailed pricing, and when she returned with it, I noticed the listed price for a regular Sul Lung Tang was $16.55—despite the menu stating it was approximately $16.24. I politely questioned the discrepancy, and the server’s response was completely unacceptable. She admitted they adjusted the prices in their system because they “didn’t want to deal with coins” and had “too many pennies.” In other words, they are rounding prices up on every customer without disclosing it—and pocketing the difference. This is not only misleading and unprofessional, but it’s borderline unethical. Customers should never be charged more than what is listed on the menu, especially without notice. And to still ask for a tip after knowingly overcharging patrons? That’s a serious red flag. I hope management sees this and reconsiders both its pricing practices and the training of its staff. Transparency and honesty are the bare minimum in customer service—and unfortunately, that was missing during my visit.

Went to K spa and then here for lunch. It was conveniently located in the same plaza. Food was decent and we had a great time eating and chatting away. The only complaint might be its value? For the price we paid (each dish was about $18 plus tax and tip) the portion wasn't that big.

Google
Jang Mo Jip's radish kimchi is amazing. Beef Soup with sliced meat tastes good and with Radish Kimchi enhancing the taste.

Google
Jang Mo Jib (장모집), which translates to "the house of the mother-in-law," has consistently exceeded my expectations. Their Kimchi and 깍두기 (radish kimchi) are consistently fresh and delicious. In Korea, there's a saying that the quality of Kimchi determines the overall quality of the food, and I've always enjoyed the consistently delicious taste of Kimchi prepared by Jang Mo Jib. On this visit, I opted for the ox knee and tendon soup (도가니탕) for health reasons, while my sister ordered the chicken noodle soup (닭칼국수) along with a dumpling plate (만두 접시). The portion of the chicken noodle soup was incredibly generous, and we couldn't finish it all, so we had leftovers to enjoy later. The meal was satisfyingly filling.

I come here often for their amazing suhlluntang + kimchi. Menus are very simple and the restaurant is always clean.

This place is just... whatever. Very small restaurant that you can go to for your korean soup cravings. It's a soup place. But I wouldn't come back here unless as a last resort (most food places I WANT to go to are usually closed early mornings). If you separate the dumplings and meat from the broth itself (dumpling platter, meat platter), they are flavorless and not worth the price. Their seollongtang (ox-bone soup) is okay, there's nothing wrong with it flavor-wise. A bit bland, sure, but that's usually how all seollongtang taste like. Kind of not worth it at its ever-increasing price though. But my dissatisfaction lies on ordering something that isn't soup from their menu--their dumpling platter. It really has no flavor. From the outside texture of the dumplings, they are either handmade (no fine molding typically found in frozen instant dumplings, found in the korean market) or VERY cheaply bought. The dough wrapped around the filling of the dumpling is flimsy, making it really easy to poke through a dumpling with chopsticks. Dumpling is too soft and NOT firm. The filling of the dumpling is just meat thrown inside with tiny bits of vegetables. There is NO seasoning nor a single OUNCE of flavor in these dumplings. I had to drown the dumplings in the sauce that was provided, but even that was not enough. I would rather eat instant frozen dumplings I can find at a cheaper price at the local Asian market. Feel free to eat here as a last resort.

Yelp
Perfect place to go early in the morning for seollungtang! I have been going here for many years and love their side dishes of kelp and radish kimchi. I've only ordered in Korean but I'm sure they can accommodate. That's how you know it's authentic Korean food haha I order the seollungtang with jirah and clear noodles.

Yelp
I have been going to this place since I was a child, and it's still so good. The food is comfort food for sure and the kimchi is fresh and delishes. The service was friendly and attentive.

J V.

Yelp
Service is very quick and not overbearing. The food is just top notch. The kimchi and the radish is just whole new level. The premises is very clean.

Yelp
I can tell Jang Mo Jip has been feeding the community for decades. Interior is typical of a homey Korean restaurant with a small menu. I came with my wife since she had fond memories of coming here. Service was great, the waitresses made sure to keep our banchan full. As for the stews, they were average to me but it does the job. Nothing spectacular but also nothing wrong. It's not as good as Han Yang but I don't mind coming back. 3.5 stars for me rounded to 4 to help small businesses.

Eric K.

Yelp
Although the food menu is not extensive, the restaurant is famous for its delicious food. Korean hangover soup is probably the best in the OC area. It may be a very simple food, but it has a rich taste and a good feel. In Korea, having soup and a glass of soju with friends is a small culture.

Pam L.

Yelp
I've been going to this place for over ten years. They are consistently great and it's one of the best beef bone soups around this area (not counting ktown of course). If you're new to this place, try their Seolleongtang (ox bone soup). The soup comes unseasoned so you can add the salt and spring onions to your taste. I love this because I don't like to see too salty. The chicken ginseng soup is great when you're feeling like you're under the weather or hungover. And the Bosam platter is SO good but you definitely need a few people to share with. I read some reviews that this is not great for English speakers. I would argue the case, they have an English menu be the waitress speaks good enough English to recommend what to eat.

Yelp
BUGS IN FOOD!!! DO NOT EAT HERE. We picked up two soups to go and as soon as we scooped some into our bowl, we found this maggot looking bug in our soup. Seriously concerned that their kitchen is unclean. We called and told them and they told us to bring it back and they'll give us a new soup. No, thank you. Had to throw them both away. Such a waste of money. We've been regulars here for a while but we're so concerned about the cleanliness of their kitchen and ingredients that we won't be going back.

Diana L.

Yelp
Some friends, my husband, and I visited Jang Mo Jip on Sun, 4/10 at around 7:00 PM. The restaurant seemed like a store straight out of Korea lol. Nothing frilly. The updated menus were primarily in Korean, but they had one photo that was translated into English so I was able to base my food choice on that (coming from someone who doesn't read or speak KR lol). The worker(s) also primarily speak Korean with very limited English as well but fortunately, one of our friends is Korean so she helped us all order! Jang Mo Jip is known for their sul rung tang - sliced beef, in boiled ox bone marrow soup, served with scallions, rice and kimchi so we decided to order 4 of those. The bone broth was rich and of course, not salty (you are supposed to add your own salt). I actually added some of the kimchi juices (lol don't come at me people) and it was overall so delicious. The banchan is mainly radish and kimchi and it was unlimited. I've always appreciated a banchan refill hehe. I enjoy radish kimchi and it wasn't too sour and had just enough flavor. Menu - Prices increased from the previous menu (prob due to inflation). New prices range from $14(+) -$30, which I feel are still reasonable given the quality of the item. Parking - Plenty of parking available in the lot! Not sure if it was because we came later on a Sunday, but we had no trouble at all. All in all, I'd come back. The dishes tasted authentic to me and it was comforting on a semi-cold night. :)

Yelp
This place has been in the same place as long as I can remember. Good bone broth always. When you have a hangover, or you are just under the weather, you gotta try their SullungTang (beef bone broth with sliced meats and clear noodles) and kakdoogi (sliced radish kimchi). You have to add in some salt and green onions to your liking before eating. Dayum! It is so good! Service is 'eh' but that's all like that in mom and pop place like this. You just judge on their food.

Mr W.

Yelp
Go to spot for hangover medicine. Simple, fast, good soups. No breathing space inside. too small

Alex H.

Yelp
Excellent Korean restaurant serving about a dozen dishes. I ordered the dogani tang (ox knee bone soup) and added the green onion myself. You will get three sides and soups come with rice. I don't think they have menus with photos and the service is basic so I advise looking at pictures on Yelp before you arrive.

Yelp
PROS: - Plenty of parking in the plaza where this place is located at. - Inside, the establishment reminds me of actually being in Korea. - The sulungtang is delicious, and load it up with a ton of meat. - The radish and cabbage kimchee is on point! - They provide hot or cold "boh-ree-chah" (barley tea). - The steamed dumplings were awesome! Do try them. The skin was so chewy and delicious. CONS: - Could be a bit of a wait during peak hours or during colder weather. - No menus in English. So non-Korean speakers beware. Just pull up yelp and point to what you want. FINAL THOUGHTS: - This place was great, but for non english speakers, it could be a bit challenging to communicate with the workers there or navigate the menu. Also, it was weird that even though there was a line of people, there was no waiting list to write your name down. You just have to trust that the person working inside remembers you.

Sunnie K.

Yelp
Still one of the reliable restaurants. Kimchi & radishes are one of the best, it's fresh. They give you scissor to cut the fresh kimchi to your liking. You can always ask for more which they are happy to provide. Although the there is a little price hike, it's understandable because so is everywhere. Services is very good. They greet you as you enter and as you leave.

Frances L.

Yelp
The fact this business only has four stars shows me YELP IS CLUELESS! This business been poppin top quality bone broth since the 80s/90s. IYKYK!!! Locals only, jello skin only, no BS ONLY TOP KNOTCH GUESTS THAT TIP cus these ladies are not with the nonesense. Five stars

In K.

Yelp
Always great Sul Rung Tang! Their foods are consistent and delicious. We usually make it to go and our parents love their dishes.

MK C.

Yelp
Had Summer special menu - cold bean noodle and yeolmu bibimbap. Noodle was good and the yeolmu bibibap was excellent. I would come again and again for them. Kimchi we're great as they should be for a restaurant known for beef soups. One disappointment was the mandu. It was not very flavorful. I will skip the mandu next time.

D K.

Yelp
not sure if she's the owner or working lady... but she sure talks in very rude manners to customers when taking orders or when questions are asked. Let's show some respect, be kind and nice to customers!! This lady being very rude and talks mean about extra charging for 1 깍두기 eventhough I orderd 3 sul lung tang... damn let's be little generous..

Edward K.

Yelp
Hello Yelpers! Pros: 1) Simple and delicious 2) Mixed Seolleongtang 3) Kimchee 4) Service 5) Casual No cons

In K.

Yelp
Always consistent. Two same persons were still working quite long time. Great soup based Korean commoners food.

Susan C.

Yelp
Amazing foods and great services. One of the best Sul la tang restaurants I have tried. The banchan is fresh and delicious.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Clean & service is above par. Food is about as close to being as good as LA K town food. The radish kimchi is always on point. I would recommend for anyone in OC willing to drive to LA for authentic Korean food. I will continue to revisit.

Brian L.

Yelp
Customer service It is a korean place owned by Ajumma's so don't expect any standard american customer service. They are super nice, they give more banchan(side dish if you request) FOOD Portions are amazing. If you are going to order dumpling, it is a lot of pieces Their soup is fantastic. However, I recommend you don't come close to the closing hour because they might ran out of their sul-lung -tang.

Han L.

Yelp
It was my first time and I really enjoyed it. It was pretty decent sulangtang and it wasn't too expensive. One thing to note is that it might be a bit intimidating for a nonkorean. There's no english menu and they told me to just read the korean menu on the wall.

Jeesoun S.

Yelp
We got there for the first time today. Good choice to have a hot bone soup after heavy raining. We liked their napa kimch and radish kimch but the bon soup broth itself, was like a water color, not rich as close as Yigah bone soup. Overall, rice, two kimches were 5 stars. The bone soup is 3 stars for the quality.

Rick C.

Yelp
Ddaro kookbab was one of best I ever had in America!! I'm Korean and I drink all da time. Highly recommend for hangover soup meal

Mimi J.

Yelp
gamja tang/spicy pork neck bone soup w potato...great for this rainy weather. in love w their cold sikhye/sweet rice drink they offer after your meal. i always tend to buy 2 32oz containers of sikhye for $5 togo. it is one for $3.very delicious during the summer w ice to cool down n hydrate yourself

Sung Jae C.

Yelp
I am 50yo had enough seulong tang This one was worst. Just today? More worst menu was mandu

Kevin L.

Yelp
They dont open on Sunday just FYI. But great place to get some OG korean soups that will help your soul.

Olivia Y.

Yelp
Togoed Daro kook Bob (following their menu spelling; the spicy beef and veggie stew) was flavorful and beef was tender. They gave a lot of beef in the soup. Much better than la palma location.

Je J.

Yelp
Ahjummahs are very nice and all about business. Whenever I am sick my dad always gets the guk bahp from here and it's so good and comforting.

Christine L.

Yelp
I ordered to go at the counter and they place my to order on the ground intentionally. The service is really poor

William L.

Yelp
Long time customer.. probably for over 10 yrs.. Good food good service (not the best but its alright). Its very difficult to make sulungtang in consistent taste but.... they do.

Tommy H.

Yelp
Best sulung tang near buena park and fullerton area. Mandoo is really good too. The best point is once you order mandoo jupsi small portion of sulung tang comes together.

Rachel Y.

Yelp
Don't discount this spot because it's currently at 3.5 stars - I'm serious! This is an amazing hole-in-the-wall kind of spot and officially my go to spot for sul-lung-tang. FOOD: - sul-lung-tang +5/5 This is what they're known for & all I could have dreamed of. The flavorful, healthy, & light soup reminds me of my childhood and all the times I ate this dish with family. Keep in mind that the soup is MEANT for you to add salt & green onions to so it comes bland (& this happens at ALL korean restaurant.) - ddaro gukbap +5/5 The bf ordered this & literally finished every drop. I'm not kidding, he was in pain after because he couldn't stop eating it. Which goes to say that this dish was delicious and I couldn't stop stealing a couple bites, hehe. SERVICE: - this is a mom & pop shop so don't be offended if the owners don't try to be your best friends. They're usually swamped with orders so be patient because your taste buds will definitely be rewarded. Love this place!! Couldn't rave about it anymore.. so I'll stop here, haha.

Wukong S.

Yelp
Korean comfort food done right! To-go orders placed over the phone are ready in a short amount of time and boxed/bagged very neatly. Highly recommended

Brian Y.

Yelp
If you want sul lung tang, I think this place is the best local place to go to for the taste and portion size. They are extremely generous with their side dishes and the food is consistent. I've never dined in so I can't say much for the service, but I have always enjoyed their sul lung tang (haven't tried anything else here). The only thing is you might have to ask for more salt and spice if you need them! This is the only thing they don't give a lot of

Tim P.

Yelp
Mostly senior customers whom seem to enjoy the soups they came for. Chicken soup was good but didn't leave any special impression to come back. Probably a good spot for those needing soup from previous night's hangover :p

Francine L.

Yelp
Since I've lived around this area for five years I have actually been coming here with my mom and dad to have either a nice lunch or dinner from this spot. They take their friends here who also enjoy this lovely small place. It looks like someone's mom would have made these dishes. I would say when you walk inside this place is by far not the fanciest or a looker. But once you sit down they have a Korean menu but just ask for an English menu. My favorite is the chicken soup with the glass noodles, I believe that is what it is called or clear noodles. Either way those noodles are much more healthier than the regular ones and personally I like them more. I've tried the beef soup here also and would go between the two different soups depending on what I am craving more on the meat side.

Eunhae P.

Yelp
Really good soup. I think the prices finally reflect their labor and value. This restaurant's been around forever.

Joseph K.

Yelp
This restaurant delivers same quality food and service at all times. Good service and flexible hours.

Chloe C.

Yelp
Meh. No major complaints but nothing extraordinary. Jangmojip means "mother in law's" but this mother in law must not like her son in law that much hahah We got ddaro gookbop (without intestines) and gamjatang. Ddaro gookbop was kind of bland; the broth didn't have enough depth. It had a lot of meat but not enough veggies; meat pieces were too chewy for me. They also put dangmyun (Korean vermicelli) in the soup which soaks up the broth in no time haha. Gamjatang didn't have enough meat on the bones but my friend liked the soup. Their side dishes were pretty sad; they only give you kimchi, radish kimchi, and seaweed. Sullungtang places normally have good kimchi but even their kimchis were mediocre. Servers are friendly but you have to call them a few times to get their attention. Parking is easy since it's located in the Beach Spa plaza. Would rather go to mindeulle or delicious table if I'm craving soupy dishes!

Kiki L.

Yelp
Grew up going to this restaurant and they always had the best sullungtang, especially in Orange County. Other places are nowhere near as good as them.

Andrew K.

Yelp
This location is small and the menu does not have nearly the variety of dishes like the Jangmo Jip in La Palma: no pork ssam (lettuce wrap) dishes and samgyetang (chicken and ginseng soup). You, however, can expect the same quality seolleongtang (Korean beef brisket soup), fresh kimchi and good service here that people come to expect from the other Jangmo Jip chain restaurants. In addition to seolleongtang, their other popular soups or stews include dduk mandu guk (rice cake and dumpling soup) and gamjatang (pork neck bone and potato stew). The dduk mandu guk is another good option if you want a good hearty non-spicy meal. If you prefer something spicy, their gamjatang is savory, peppery and you get a sizable portion of meat and potatoes. The pork is tender and the large potato slices are firm but cooked all the way through. If you like meaty soups and stews, then neck bones and oxtail are the ideal parts. The cartilage, bone and tendons in these cuts give you a richly flavored stock, thick soup texture and extremely tender meat.

Justeen Y.

Yelp
I'm so in love with this place, and you know it's authentic when you have elderly Korean women in the back cooking. I usually get the dak kal gooksoo (shredded chicken + potatoes + noodles in a yummy broth) and the boyfriend orders sullungtang with beef and clear noodles. Their side dishes are 2 types of kimchi and seaweed which you can dip into a spicy yet sweet hot pepper paste, it's super addicting. The quality of their kimchi is always good and pairs nicely with any dish. I've also ordered the gamja tang (beef + potato broth) and it was delicious! Really can't go wrong here. It does get busy/packed, so I recommend coming after lunch and before the dinner rush.

Roberto C.

Yelp
5 stars amid pandemic. This establishment has surprised me and trust me i tried everything in buena park as i hate cooking. They not only gave me an extra rice without asking as which is unheard of and also had my food ready in 10 mins. Just call and drive and your food is ready. Lots of side kimchi also. They dont deserve a 3.5 and lets not forget the taste and food quality. Still there!!!

Charina U.

Yelp
Didn't want to go to Koreatown since it's too far so I checked Yelp for the nearest restaurant and found this place. The place had a home-y vibe to it and I knew it was a legit Korean restaurant since the customers were mostly Koreans. The owner gave out an English menu with pictures which made it easier for us to order. We ordered the Seolleongtang, Bossam and Mandu. The dishes were simple but everything was so good even the banchans. This place also has parking which is a plus for me. 10/10 would come back again just to try the other dishes

Katherine L.

Yelp
Super simple place to get a good bowl of sul-lung-tang (beef bone broth soup?). You get a two different kinds of kimchi as side dishes, and that's about it. I've been coming here for years with my family. I haven't ordered anything other than the aforementioned soup, but this place does such a good job of hitting the spot when you have the craving for sul-lung-tang.

Ran C.

Yelp
As I experience more Korean dishes, I am beginning to embrace my feelings as it pertains to Korean food. I guess it was bound to happen as I moved to a place smack in the middle of the Korean community of Garden Grove. I really like Korean food. Saturday night, after a long day of terrorizing students on the motorcycle range, I wanted something hot and spicy. Also wanting to check off some of my Yelp bookmarks, I decided to try, Jang Mo Gip. Simple menu - makes it easy to choose and IMO, allows restaurants to perfect their dishes. That's how I felt as I was enjoying my Spicy Pork Neck Bone with Potato soup. When the dish is only $8.82 - for me, that's a bonus. The dish is listed as spicy and it will be to those sensitive to the heat. There's lots of meat if you don't mind getting in and picking the bones apart and or sucking the meat right off of them. Which is what I did. It didn't bother me if other diners were looking as I figure, I'm paying for it - why not eat it and enjoy it. Which is what I did. Excellent service even with the language barrier as I don't speak or read Korean (English menu helped big time). Refills on the cold tea and water came like there was a hose attached. Needed extra napkins would appear as it was noticeable how I had no apprehensions about getting my hands dirty, so to speak. To simply put it - Great food, great prices and great service!
