Very impressed. My mum and I had our annual Christmas meal here, opting for the set lunch. I had the sushi to start, followed by the steak. Having recently returned from a trip to Japan, I can confidently say that in the six months I’ve been back, this is the best sushi I’ve had and the closest to what I experienced in Japan.
The steak, despite being bavette, was incredibly tender and paired beautifully with the chilli butter and pak choi. However, I would’ve definitely ordered a side of rice to accompany it. My one regret is not trying a dessert, but as I was in a rush, it just means I’ll have to come back!
The set menu was excellent value for money, and the service was impeccable—very attentive, with water promptly poured, napkins folded when leaving the table, and any questions answered helpfully.
The atmosphere was lovely—bustling with energy, as you’d expect in the Royal Exchange, and the music was at a good volume. That said, they could definitely improve the temperature in the space, perhaps with heaters, as it was quite cold. But the food was so good I was happy to overlook it.
