Found this hidden gem when I was on the hunt for the viral Dubai Chocolate. They have 2 sizes we got the big one and it’s was totally worth it. They also have some delicious samples and a great variety of flavors. My new favorite local chocolate shop

For those who really appreciate chocolate this is a good place to go. The have a great variety of handcrafted chocolates including bonbons, truffles and covered nuts. Every one made in the main three types of chocolate (dark, milk and white) The quality of the chocolate is really good and the most of the fillings are really impressive. Just an example: they have a “black forest truffle” that at first has a strong flavor of cherry but suddenly the flavor changes in your mouth and you are just having a bite of Black Forest cake.

This chocolate was out of this world! I dont typically leave review but this..... this right here is AMAZING! Please stop by and grab a sweet treat! It will be worth it! I highly recommend the Dubai Chocolate truffle or bar, As they were both amazing! I will be back!😁

Beautifully handcrafted chocolates with a great variety of flavors and textures. Jan filled our order, and my son said that I better give her 5 stars because he said it was 'amazing'. If only it wasn't 90°, I could have bought more to fly back home with.

Don't be fooled by the simple outdoor sign, this place is a hidden gem of handmade chocolates. They also offer various candies by the pound. You can expect $1.75 per chocolate bonbon, with larger ones priced around $2.50 - $3.00 (prices are clearly indicated). While it might seem steep, the taste makes it well worth it. My favourites are the caramel based bonbons and the Dubai chocolates, which truly live up to their viral hype. They offer regular-sized bars and big gold bars of the Dubai. If you've dined at one of the neighboring restaurants and are looking for a small dessert, I highly recommend picking up a few bonbons from Jan's. They also make fantastic gifts for any occasion.

2 friends of mine raved about this place to me and then finally brought me here. I only got 4 truffles and some chocolate bark; everything was so yummy. My favorite truffles were the milk chocolate Rose truffle and the white chocolate Blueberry Cream truffle. Everything was so neat and clean. All the displays were organized really neatly and they also had some novelty chocolate gifts in which I picked up 2 to give out as gifts. I highly recommend this place to anyone and I will come again so I can try more of their tasty treats!

Decedent. Luxurious. Sweet. Balanced. Tender. I could go on about how spectacular these chocolates and sweet treats are. With so many options and a beautiful smile on their faces, this is one of, if not, THE best candy shop I have ever been in! Classics and delicious creations like salted caramel, burbon, and even blueberry. Definitely worth the stop in. You can purchase by the piece, or you can butts different sized mix boxes like 6 count, 15 count, and 25 count

I had been wanting to try this candy store for a while now and today my son and I had a chance to finally get there. It's a very small shop, but there are so many different kinds of chocolates and candy to choose from. If you're someone like me, who has hard time making a decision, it can be a little overwhelming since everything looked delicious and tempting. I had read in other reviews that the people that own the shop were very friendly but today we didn't get that kind of customer service. There was one other person in the store besides us, and a woman who I imagine was one of the owners was helping her. There also was a woman working behind the counter. Neither one of them said hello to us when we entered, and we stood there for a couple of minutes before the lady behind the counter asked if she could help us. I asked her about a couple of the chocolates that she didn't really know the answers to. Maybe it was on off day that definitely happens sometimes! I also remembered that some people had mentioned that they give you samples, but since we weren't offered any, I mentioned it myself since it's always nice to get to try something before you buy it. I sampled a chocolate covered cherry, and it was perfect. The milk chocolate was rich and creamy, and the filling itself wasn't too sweet, which is sometimes a problem with chocolate covered cherries. We ended up getting a six pack of truffles for a gift for someone and an assortment of 8 ( a couple of them didn't make it all the way home) of their other chocolates including two of those delicious cherries, for the family to enjoy. I'm really looking forward to eating the chocolate turtle I also bought, later tonight. I will definitely have to go back to buy some more of their chocolates!

Great little Mom and Pop chocolate and candy store located right north of the Walgreens on A1A in LBTS. The lady working there is the sweetest and she is friendly and talkative. Very good customer service. The selection includes sugar free chocolates, salt water taffy, licorice, bonbons and much more. This is a great place to get someone a nice sweet gift box. Private parking lot with two dedicated spots for Jan's.

As soon as I walked into Jan's Homemade Candies, my PA radar starting going off. I felt like I had walked into an Amish chocolate shop back home in south central PA. Lo and behold, Jan is originally from Altoona, PA! We were warmly greeted by Jan and invited to choose a free sample. The chocolate was delicious, and there are so many different kinds to choose from. My mom was actually down visiting from PA and bought some chocolate as gifts to take back. The chocolate is very reasonably priced. We were celebrating my mom's bday, and Jan gave her a free chocolate rose. How sweet! The new owner and his female employee are rude! I have been going to Jan's for 20+ years, but never again.

What a unique delicious find. When you enter the shop, be prepared for such yummy smells and sights of chocolate! Jan and her husband are there busily making the chocolates. So good. Melts in your mouth. Not too sweet. Bought some for gifts.

Awful service. The new owner is NOT IT. He is a cheap man that won't let you park there unless you get candy and stay in the store!!!! Even though I bought candy!!!!!!! Forget eating it in your car!!!! His head is hotter than a steaming pot of chicken noodle soup!!!! I will never support this place again!!!!!! I am so upset!!!!!!!!!

An absolute great find! Jan makes all types of devine chocolate's including holiday chocolates. She is a true artist and will also ship gifts for you as well.

Delicious homemade chocolates. The new owner (Jan retired in March 2023) Nestor is very welcoming and friendly. The shop is very nice and it smells great when you walk in. They have about 90 truffle flavors, dark chocolate and milk. Chocolate dipped fruit, chocolate bark, nut clusters, bagged candied nuts, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, fudge, a sugar free section and more. They can make things on special order should you need party/wedding favors or perhaps something else. Choose your own assorted selection or grab a prepackaged box. Great for gifts or just a sweet treat for yourself!

Fantastic chocolates even the sugarless ones! Owners are delightful to speak to and always very accommodating and most appreciative of your business.

As so many of our local homemade candy makers and chocolatiers have been vanishing, I was delighted to find Jan's Homemade Candies. Just the chocolate assortments are amazing with everything from Cherry Cordials to Black Bear Paws. For myself, I purchased some Lemon and other creams and was totally delighted with their rich in taste and creamy smooth texture. While there, Jan, who is one of the nicest people you'll ever get to meet, invited me to try some complimentary samples. As I had never heard of such, I tried her dark chili chocolate which had the best tangy, zesty chili after taste but in no way overwhelming. So, if you too would like to try something out of the ordinary in chocolate, try it yourself. Besides the chocolates, Jan's also has a wide range of varying truffles, even a Key Lime. Then, Jan's also carries fudges and specialty items such as Hot 'N Spicy and those with themes for birthdays, baby, or wedding events, etc. Overall, in candies and chocolates, Jan's Homemade Candies is as good as it gets, Five Stars.

What a charming candy shop. The owners exchanged great conversation with us while letting us sample some of the treats we were planning on buying. Jans fudge is perfect in taste and texture. What a pleasure it was to stop in and get some sweets. Thank you !

This store is a true gem in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Jan is sweeter than all the beautiful homemade confections that she makes. We stopped by on our last night in town and bought a pound of fudge, 4 different flavors which were all delectable. Jan generously gave me a HUGE sample of each flavor we chose, each one was better than the last. My favorite was the Caramel Marshmallow. I had a very hard time not buying the gorgeous array of truffles, there were so many flavors to choose from. You can see how much love and attention to detail is put into everything Jan makes. There is something magical about the chocolates, the shop and the wonderful husband and wife team. In 2014, Jan made our wedding chocolates which got rave reviews..I think they stole the spotlight from the cake!! There are so many delectable, beautifully crafted chocolates...and so many original ones too! Also, you will be treated like family. I think the magic is love. Jan and her husband are an inspiration, they love what they do and the proof is in the irresistible chocolates!

Wonderful small business in the heart of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.... Went in the day prior to Valentines Day; and all was calm and cool....and while very busy, the staff was super attentive, asking if we had questions or needed help, etc. Sooooo many choices....from salt water taffy, loads of fudge flavors, and OMG the chocolates!!!!! Deliciousness!

We were visiting from NY for a wedding, and just had to stop when passing by! The hospitality from Jan and her lovely husband was something else! All of the goodies we got were amazing. It was embarrassing because my card wasn't working (flagged for fraud out of state) and Jan was so sweet and understanding of my situation. I will definitely be coming back, when I come back down to the area :)

I have been coming to Lauderdale-By-the-Sea for many years and always saw this place but never stopped in. The outside is very unassuming and to be honest it's the outside that always made me a bit leery to go in. However this year I decided to pay them a visit and so glad I did. The inside is nothing like the outside. Once you open the door you are greeted with the amazing smell of CHOCOLATE, yum! The shop is small but very inviting and we were greeted by Jan herself. What a lovely woman; very pleasant, friendly and informative. Jan owns the shop with her husband and they make all their chocolate on site using many of her Mom's passed down recipes. It was so hard to choose, but at $1.25 per piece I opted for a box of 9 and chose 9 different flavors. My favorite was actually the one I thought I would like the least; the Chai Tea is AMAZING!! And ironically the one I thought thought I'd enjoy the most was my least favorite, the raspberry jelly covered in dark chocolate. It's one of my favorite flavors but this one the jelly was very gritty with a layer of sugar on the bottom. Seemed as though it had been in the case longer than others. Perhaps it's just not a favorite and so doesn't sell as quickly. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars, I would have given 4-1/2 if I could. This place is definitely a gem and when I'm in town next year I will definitely be back. Hope they still have the Chai Tea!

Wow fine rich chocolates. Dark, milk chocolate. Some for your favorite hair dresser that looks like a hair brush ,comb and scissors. Hard candies so specials Jan is a delight . All made right on premise. So hard to make what to choice from .

This was my first time at this candy store. What an absolute treat!. The owner couldn't have been any nicer!. She offered me a sample of the sugar free candy since I'm diabetic and was unsure of what to purchase. All the candy and chocolates fudge etc are made with a lot of love. I loved the immense selection and quality here prices were much more reasonable than Kilwins too. My daughter adores watermelon and fudge and today we found watermelon fudge a candy I didn't even know existed. My boyfriend enjoyed dark chocolate dipped glaceed apricots that reminded me of France and I had a tiny bite of a dark chocolate orange rind. I will be back at Xmas to buy everyone gifts. I only wish we had one in Chicago

Jan's homemade chocolates are mouthwatering endorphin-jolting treats. They come in milk and dark varieties of every flavor imaginable; everything from the expected coconut to the unexpected chili. The best part of the visit is meeting Jan and her husband Bob; they always have a kind word and broad smile. We make several trips each month and still haven't tried all the types of chocolate available. Recently voted best in Florida by Yelp! We hope you'll stop by when visiting the area; they won't disappoint.

I visited Jan's on Saturday in search of the perfect truffle. I not only found amazing truffles but also delicious cream chocolates. I left with a 24 count box and every flavor I have had so far has been excellent. The service was top notch and we were helped by the very patient Jan who took her time assisting us and despite being the day before a busy holiday did not rush us in our selections. I will be visiting as soon as I am in the area again (I live 300 miles north of here).

I was researching for desserts and I came across this place. It had all the reviews. We decided to stop by since it was on the way home. We had company coming over to our house and we ended up staying here longer than we should have. We couldn't stop talking to Jan and she kept feeding us samples!! Lol She is beyond the sweetest woman you'll ever meet! Her and her husband Bob make their chocolates. It's all homemade! They were so delicious and we would definitely come back! I use to like chocolate a lot but I got jaded by the same ole too sweet and nothing authentic chocolate. It's weird I know! Well, that has changed as of yesterday. We ate the whole 24 chocolate box. It had the perfect amount of flavor and sweetness!! It was delicious!!! I promise you won't be disappointed with this place. We are true Floridians born and raised and we couldn't believe she's been here for 19 years!!

Jan's chocolates and candies are superior. I give her chocolates for gifts on a regular basis, and they always bring joy. This is a wonderful family-owned business that you must visit.

Can't say enough about Jan's! Bob and her creations put the competition to shame. It's hard to imagine that they make it ALL themselves. Dark chocolate is the best, but Jan's milk chocolate is also unbelievable. We're from NY and are only here part time, but NEVER miss making a visit for a Jan's Fix. I don't know how to stress this...if you thought See's, Godiva or any other "high end" chocolate was good (don't even mention Kilwins), YOU HAVE NOT TRIED JAN'S!!! It's simply THE BEST! (and well worth the money...)

OMG. I absolutely died and went to heaven.....The best best chocolate ever....Everything chocolate should be and more....What a treat for my tastebuds....Just Divine. I've been wanting to go to this shop for years. I just never got around to it until yesterday. I guess something good can come out of a pandemic. LOL. A lot to say about the experience. So I made a list... What I love about Jan's Homemade Candies: -They are definitely homemade. You can tell the love that went into each one. -The chocolates are yummy. Have you ever had tasteless chocolate...Not here. Each flavor is so delicious and thought out. -The chocolates are fresh. Once you bite into it you can tell it was just made. It is a wonderful experience having fresh chocolates versus store bought. You need to try fresh chocolate. -The service is personal. Jan took great care of us. I felt at home. Thank you Jan. -The candies are creative and beautiful. I just had the Sea Turtle Egg and it was fun taking the first bite and seeing the two turtles inside. I love candy creativity. So much fun to eat and enjoy. And makes you smile. I can't wait to have the rest of what I brought.

I've been wanting to make a trip to this chocolate shop for over a year now and I am so glad I finally did. Jans chocolate is an absolutely delicious, fresh, high quality producing wonderland of scrumptious chocolate confections. She is a chocolate goddess. She is the warmest most inviting hostess and her passion for delivering excellence is evident in not only her tentative service but in the chocolates themselves. Each chocolate I purchased was phenomenal. I'm a sucker for all things chocolate and peanut butter and I tell you the bones, frogs, peanut butter cups did not disappoint. None of the treats I got were sup par. Each shone brightly in their intended flavor with a smooth, rich, clean finish. The apple caramel and hazelnut melt always were also off the chain. The only wish I can make is the location being in a busy area in Fort Lauderdale, it's quite a hike for me. I definitely will be back. This is the chocolate you gift someone to say "I love you". Thank you so much Jan for the hospitality, warmth, and the joy you brought to my belly.

Jan's offers so much more than chocolate. In my opinion this place is worth going to just for the peaches and cream white chocolate item. It was simply melt in your mouth goodness. There are so many varieties and interesting flavours that you simply don't get at other chocolate stores: rose, lavender, key lime, etc. They carry fudge, nuts, sugar free and other goodies. The place always smells so good. Service is friendly and there are a few samples in case you want to try before you buy. You can tell that the owners Jan & Bob have put their heart & soul into this place and they want to share the experience with you. If you are wanting something more homemade and out of the usual, start putting the address in your gps.

So mad that we haven't been here before! Happened to dine next door, and stopped in. What amazing treats, and such genuine care and service. Jan was so kind. Absolutely amazing! I was astounded by the number of different chocolates in this shop and that they are all made on premises by hand. Jan an Bob the owners / chocolatiers were extremely nice and the chocolate truffles, fudge, dipped fruits and nuts were delicious. I definitely ruined my diet today. I HIGHLY recommend stopping by. They offer goodies that you cannot find at the other shops around the corner on the main drag. This is my "Go To" chocolate shop from now on!!

I cant even begin to explain how amazing Jan's chocolates are...and what a super friendly person Jan is. We just happened upon this chocolate shop just before closing and Jan welcomed us with a smile. There are soooo many choices at her shop and each and every one of them was amazing. I am pretty sure she has the best chocolate peanut butter cup that I have ever had....and I have had my share of peanut butter cups! Jan's Homemade Candies is the best chocolate and fudge shop in Ft Lauderdale. Located in charming Lauderdale by the Sea, Jan packs a big variety in a little shop. It's hard to choose a favorite between the truffles, creams, nuts or all the flavors of fudge. But I really love the hand dipped fruits!! Jan always makes you feel so welcome and sends you away with a little sample. We love Jan's!!!

My toddler son and I popped into Jan's after seeing wonderful recommendations on the LBTShappenings FB page. We were no disappointed! Jan is WONDERFUL! It was a such a pleasure spending some time with her and speaking with her. My son sampled some delicious gummy worms as Jan gave me some recommendations to help narrow down my choices (everything looks so yummy it's hard not to buy one of everything!). Everything looks so beautiful and from what I've eaten so far, it's even more tasty! The shop is spotless and very welcoming. I can't recommend Jan's enough! We can't wait to go back to this little gem near the beach!!

I want to Jan's over Easter weekend to buy myself a good homemade chocolate bunny. Of course I wound up walking out with more than that. All of the candies are homemade and delicious! Janet is very helpful and willing to answer any questions you have, I will definitely be a return customer.

This was a wonderful tiny shop with amazing homemade candy. I went for Easter and was lucky they still had candy available. The owners waited on me and were just lovely. It's a little hard to find by my GPS but it shares a lot with the Walgreens next door if that helps.

A small shop but packed with an AMAZING selection. There were so many to choose from and the prices are great too. We even got a couple of samples to try as well. The lady behind the counter was super helpful and nice..all in all a welcoming and wonderful shop!

This has to be one of the best hidden gems that I've come across! We initially came to the area to get some donuts from a nearby shop, but they had sold out (very disappointing, but a blessing in disguise). My fiancé and I had a hankering for some chocolate, and we saw Jan's sign from the street and thought "Ooh, #1 rated chocolate shop in South Florida?" We didn't hesitate to walk in, and I am so glad that we did. From the moment we walked in, we felt like family. Jan greeted us with a warm smile and was happy to answer our endless questions about her boundless selections of chocolates. I couldn't believe the variety - truffles, fudges, and chocolate(milk and dark) covered everything - fruit, malt balls, pretzels, oreos, graham crackers, nuts, and so much more. She had samples of whole truffles out and it was obvious that she really wants her customers to be satisfied with their purchase. We ended up buying an assortment of dark chocolate goodies and they were all delicious. Our favorite was the Berry Healthy Bark (almonds, blueberry, raspberry, and acai berries covered in dark chocolate). The coolest thing? She makes it all in a kitchen in the back of her shop! Everything is fresh and handmade by Jan herself. She gave us a small tour after she told us and saw the disbelief on our faces lol. She really enjoys what she does and is an expert at it. Jan's genuineness, great conversation, and of course, her delicious sweets, made our night. :) In summary, I can't recommend this place enough. Jan's Homemade Candies has been recognized by national magazines and Channel 10 news, but I think Yelpers deserve to know about it too! Oh and she does weddings and parties too ;)

Delicious and beautiful chocolates. I had several options if the individual candies (chocolate!) plus some malt balls. All were delicious. There is a case with sugar free options I didn't try, too. A lovely place for gifts or a special treat!

I have often driven by this cute little shop, but never had the opportunity to stop by until recently. Upon seeing the horse and buggy on the window, my mom and I had a strong feeling she was from Pennsylvania, and we were right! In fact, Jan told us she gets all of her chocolate from one chocolatier up there. She puts a lot of love into her creations, and it shows. We spent far too long in there, gazing at the many varieties of chocolate in the display cases. Jan offered us plenty of samples, saying she said she wanted us to make sure we liked the chocolates before we bought them. I wondered how she made a profit after being so generous! I spent about $15 on chocolates in there, which was quite reasonable considering all I bought. Another thing I like about her treats - the chocolate is very rich, so you can't eat a ton of them in one sitting. I bought two of the s'mores bars, and it took me several attempts to finish just one of them. She also has quite a large section of sugar-free chocolates, for those interested.

This place is amazing! The owner was one of the nicest people ive ever come in to contact with. She even gave my pregnant wife a present for the baby! The chocolate is made on site daily by the owner and her husband. Im a huge chocolate pretzel guy and these were phenomenal. Im so glad this place is close to a house our family just bought because we will be going back frequently!!!

If you have a gift list that includes candy, do the following: 1. Scratch off the top candy places on your list....Godiva, See's, etc. 2. Replace with Jan's Homemade Candies. One of the pleasures of travelling (at least for me) is to stumble upon without any prior knowledge, a great new eating place. Jan's is one of those places. In one word, this is a SPECTACULAR candy shop. It's not like a Godiva shop where there is more marble, glass and crystal than candy, but a very neat and clean small shop with display cases tiered and filled to the brim with a different candy every linear foot of candy display space. I would guess there were close to 100 different kinds of candy. All are handmade. Each piece is a work of art. Many of her best creations are not advertised on the website because her production is limited and is usually bought up by the local traffic. If you want a truely unique box of chocolates, call her up and tell her what you want. Visually her candy is just exquisite. Some look like polished colored marble, some like real crab apples...others has the Kermit the Frog look, or a turtle....or a bear claw. Taste wise, it is more on the adult side.....that is more chocolate flavor than sweet. Flavorings range from fruits to flower scents (lavender, jasmine). What are more pronounced are her flavors and bittersweet chocolate not masked by alot of sweetness. So if you like that traditional, real sweet chocolates stick to See's. If you like to have a bite to your chocolate, you will love Jan's. After visiting her website I discovered she has been featured on the Food Network. Even with her fame, she was a gracious host like I was her very first customer. Probably because the hurricane was coming and most people were off the streets and it was past summer vacation... As she filled my two boxes with her favorite flavors (I asked her to do that), she kept handing me another sample to try as we talked about nearly every flavor in the three large display cases. I probably had a 1/4 box of chocolates during our conversation.... Everyone has different tastes for candy and the many great candy establishments I have tasted each have their own unique merits. But if you are looking for a great candy with artistic and visual appeal for a gift or treat for yourself, Jan's Handmade Candies wins hands down...so far.

I've been going to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea for a long time and I've never noticed this place. I'm embarrassed to say I've been going to Kilwin's on the Main Street instead of supporting this small business. It's a cute shop run by an extremely friendly older couple. You can tell just by talking to them for a few minutes how passionate they are about their business and how happy it makes them. They have all the basics you would expect in a chocolate shop but then they have some unique items with interesting flavor combinations or ingredients. They have some crazy amount of flavors (20-30 ish?) of fudge available daily. I really enjoy it when businesses are creative, that's what really wins me over. Jan gave us a lot of samples, so don't be shy if you want to try something before you buy it! We actually ended up trying some things that we were sad we didn't have when we got home, so we're definitely going to have to make a trip back sometime soon. Everything I've had so far was excellent but the toffee almonds really stuck out to me.
