Magical Ice Cream Opens in San Francisco Chinatown with Edible Gold - Eater SF
"Janta is a family-run Indian restaurant in Palo Alto, known as one of the first Indian restaurants in the area. It received positive reviews in the SF Chronicle and was visited by former president Bill Clinton. The restaurant will close on December 24 due to a rent increase." - Janelle Bitker
We came for lunch over the weekend and the place had a few people but was not crowded. The buffet was open and we opted for that. The flavors were good and the food was fresh. They charged around 45$ for a family of 4 (2 kids, 2 adults).

Very nice Indian place. I would say it is a historic place were top people visited. I came walking from Stanford university and luckily explored this. Highly recommended Punjabi taste.

Delicious curry and other dishes. Naan was pretty good. Left stuffed with one plate.

Wow, I was blown away. Having read some reviews before visiting I had my expectations set higher than I normally would, but Janta still managed to exceed them by a good margin. I had the non-vegetarian Thali for 2 people, and right from the get-go each dish I tried was better than the last and I ended up so full I could hardly finish my desert. All together we paid $45 and I'd say it was more than worth it. The food tasted as authentic Indian as anything I've had before and the chai tea along side a rice pudding was the perfect end to my meal. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be sure to stop by!

I come here for the buffet on Saturday a lot. It's always so delicious and the staff are so friendly. I highly recommend this place for great Indian food, and if you're vegetarian/vegan, they have fantastic options, too!

Lunch buffet is good with authentic Indian curries. In case of dinner (which isn't buffet), there is a lot of waiting time involved. Nevertheless, the veg-biryani that I tried here is really good. Good place for vegetarians. :)

We had the lunch buffet on Saturday.
Some of the dishes were very good - the black daal, saag, kadi. Some others were too full of oil and very salty. Also, the samosa was really bad.
However, for the price one is paying ($11) for the buffet, I think it's a good deal overall.

Dinner Thali is a pretty good value. Lots to doggy bag for us and a great sampling of the delicacies! Sadly Janta is leaving at the end of the year, whether they will be at another locale is still up in the air
