"Open for: All day Price range: $ Since Vancouver’s food trucks were legalized a decade ago, they’ve enjoyed a rollercoaster ride through fads and fortunes. Favorites have come and gone, as the ranks of dozens have slimmed to a handful; much-loved trucks such as Soho Road, the Kaboom Box, and Top Rope Birria have rolled off the road. But elder statesman Japadog abides. It’s always worth checking one of the six food truck locations (including one at the airport) and four stores, especially the original at the junction of Burrard Street and Smithe Street. Snap up one of the signature all-beef Terimayo dogs with teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and seaweed to see why the brand has lasted the course. Anthony Bourdain loved this budget treat on the No Reservations Vancouver episode, noting wisely, “If life has taught us anything, it’s to eat meat in tube form.” Know before you go: Gobbling down Japadog before you go through departures at YVR is the breakfast of champions." - Nikki Bayley

Not a bad hot dog. I was slightly concerned about hygiene after seeing that the cook was using his tong to both cook, open/close lid, and move some stuff around. Worth a try though if you want something to snack on quickly.

JapaDog was a bit different from what I expected—I was hoping for something more uniquely Japanese, but it turned out to be just a regular hot dog topped with seaweed. It’s interesting to try, but don’t expect anything too special

After 10+ years I am finally able to locate and try. Every time I am in Vancouver I would Google to check the latest location, when I got there, it just wasn’t there or too early or too late. And there wasn’t a location in Toronto at that time. Many interesting flavours and tastes amazing! Must try if you haven’t.

Finally tried the famous Japadog and it was just ok. I've had Asian style burgers that I have been impressed by so I was hoping the Asian style hot dog would be great as well, but it's more lackluster and kind of overpriced for what you are getting. I went with the Wagyu Terimayo which is Wagyu Beef, Seaweed, Teriyaki Sauce, Japanese Mayo, Fried Onions which is almost 15 CAD. It looked pretty good when it came out, but I did think it was a little small. Overall flavor was ok, I wouldn't know it was wagyu if you didn't tell me. Lots of sweetness coming from the teriyaki & Japanese mayo. I think they had sriracha which I should have added, but overall there was already so much sauce. The Japadog name is quite well known, so with it being a tourist draw, comes the higher prices. In the end, it really is just a hot dog and if 15 CAD was for a meal which included fries I could justify the price. This location was downtown and I walked there but if you drive you'd have to find street parking or look for a structure nearby. It's a pretty small spot since it's just a quick-bite meal. If you love hot dogs I suppose you could try it out and if someone offered me a Japadog I'd eat it. But I don't really plan on coming back. Cheers!

Extremely expensive hot dogs with a Japanese flair. I tried it on the recommendation of my friend from Japan. The hot dog quality was much higher and tastier than any other I've ever tried, and the hot toppings finished it perfectly. While I'll love to try one of the other items on the menu... the prices makes me hesitate.

After shopping for shirts for my work at Winners and Old Navy, near Grenville and Robson, I walked south to try Japadog on the streets. I usually don't hesitate trying new foods to add experiences to my taste library. I am glad that I did. It really raised the bar even though more expensive than other hot dogs on the streets. I tried the menu #1 (I think it was called Kurobuta Terimayo) and I thought it was wonderful with the Japanese style mayo. The meat is shorter and thicker than other traditional hotdogs, but it tasted so good with seaweed flakes. I am quite curious about other menus too - like Wagyu, spicy, etc. Maybe one at a time later on :) l’m just grateful to the lady who cooked my hotdog today. She mentioned feeling somewhat hot, likely due to the temperature, sunshine, and being near the hotdog stand all day.
