"Founded in 1998 and working with master blacksmiths in Japan, the Japanese Knife Company stocks an impressive collection of high-end chefs knives which are often really beautiful objects. The staff are highly knowledgeable about the products and their manufacture, and you can test the knives out, being shown the correct way to hold and cut. They also offer a knife-sharpening service using the traditional wet stone method." - Hyperkit

Loved chopsticks collection.
Staff is very helpful & kind. I asked for a display piece of a chopstick & was told to open a packed one and check on my own.
Been to another branch at marble arch before & staff thier was similarly nice & helpful too and it had more tableware collections

It is sometimes unexpected to see how much information there can be on a topic like knife and sharpening. As a hobbyist, I decided to take a knife sharpening class to learn more, and I thoroughly enjoyed the session, which was both knowledgeable and professional yet approachable. I learned the basics of a new skill that will allow me to customise the way I use my humble knives for cooking. Thanks!

I recently purchased a Japanese knife from Christian, and the experience was excellent. They were knowledgeable, patient, and helped me find the perfect knife for my needs. Highly recommend their expertise and service!

To owners: Don't spit in my face and call it rain.
To customers: Don't let them handle your knifes if they are precious to you.
The gentleman in front of me picking up a knife had the tip of his bunka missing and the point was bent.
My freshly serviced knife had scratches and a chip. When insisting that it's not OK, the rhetoric changed rapidly from "it was like that when you gave it to us" to "it will never be perfect".
Disgraceful.
This was my third time sharpening and receiving an amateur service and excuses.
Good knifes and knowledgeable staff but I will not set foot in any of their shops again after being insulted and getting told "mate, it's razor sharp".

This knife company has all sort of different knives and it is sort of reminds me of a ToysrUs of knife shops. If you are a professional chef to a knife collector this is the place to go to. Is it overwhelming yes it is as there is such a huge range. Are the staff helpful yes they are very helpful so helpful I ended up buying a knife, well a meat cleaver made in Japan for 69 pounds yes it's massive but it does an amazing job one I can chop up meat with bones easily. They have all the different types of knives, all to a very high standard, yes they can be very expensive but it's an investment. They all the sharpening stones and tools etcetera. Also you can pay them to sharpen your knife. If you found my review helpful please click like.
Thank you and I hope you enjoy this knife store as much as I do.

Loved the idea of the store and the products. Cant speak much about the quality as I’m still waiting for my order. The staff tho wasn’t very great :/ The guy that “helped” me was not very helpful but rather sarcastic and inpatient. Loads of products inside the store but not very well managed especially the downstairs area. Definitely recommend just not the Soho store.

Attended the knife sharpening course with a friend. We were lucky enough to have the head of sharpening, Maulik as our tutor.
The lesson lasted for two and a half hours and taught us that we still have a lot to learn. We were taught the basics of sharpening and by the end we had sharpened a couple of pretty blunt knives to paper slicing sharp.
Maulik was good fun and very helpful. I’d recommend this course to anyone with decent knives.
On the subject of which… the stock at the Japanese knife company is excellent. There’s a huge selection of quality blades at various price points from easily affordable, through reassuringly expensive to “wow”.

Michiyaki has been great in repairing my knife after my wife had tried to open a metal can with my zanmai blade. Micniyaki even gave me a spare box to go with it. Well done, thank you again my friends... best regards from ian orr.
