The food and service were fantastic! Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to this establishment. We have visited multiple times and are always impressed. Shoutout to our server Matthew for giving us a memorable time! A great variety of food and drinks with a chill environment. I wish I remembered all the different names of the rolls we tried, but I know we had the Diablo, Himalayan, Asparagus, Cucumber, Loch Ness, and Sweet Potato rolls. We had the veggie tempura, Agedashi, house salad, and Miso soup for appetizers. For drinks we tried the plain green tea, Little Monster, Japanese Soda, and some Hot Sake. To finish it off we had a Dessert Bento box with some extra mochi. So delish! Our only complaint on the food was the salads. First off, u must mix the dressings! Second, the complaint, the salad is just lettuce!!! Put some tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, radish, ANYTHING, to freshen it up.

The atmosphere is great — the fish is TERRIBLE. In case you are scouting as a non-local, Hapa is the best quality fish in town with wayyyyy better prices. Hapa was closed for lunch today so we asked them for their “next best” which was easily 7 steps down — it was hardly even enjoyable. Quinton took my order over the phone and was rude and bothered from start to finish. Obviously, that didn’t matter it was “ONLY $90” for 3 orders of salmon nigiri, 2 basic roles and one special maki… Clearly farm raised low quality fish that was honestly about comparable to what you can buy for $8 at Whole Foods. To top it off, we specifically asked if there was plenty of wasabi and ginger in our to go boxes and were assured there was. It’s such a great ambiance in the restaurant, I didn’t feel the need to doubt the quality or check it— but we should have. The tiniest little mound of ginger — absolutely careless and disgraceful for $90 worth of food. It’s an absolute joke how poor quality the fish is. Look at the pics? The salmon hardly has any color and it tasted much worse than it even looked. I’ve never had this bad of fish in Boulder, but that’s because we always eat at Hapa where they treat us amazing and the fish is incredible and they also have wonderful happy hour options — I have zero bad experiences at that sushi restaurant place so I can confidently advise anyone looking for a delicious meal to solidly avoid this place. I’ve truly not felt like I’ve wasted so much at a restaurant in this town until going to Japango. Mine as well call it JIPPED-ANGO. They definitely live up to the name. 👎🏻

We had a great experience when we came for lunch to celebrate my son’s birthday. There were 6 people in our party, and most of us hadn’t been to Japango before. Our server, Mimi, was excellent, orienting us to the menus and popular items and suggesting how much food to order. Mimi gave us exactly the right amount of space vs attentiveness, which is a tough balance to strike. Of course the food was amazing! We really enjoyed the experience, and we would come back again. Thanks for a fun and delicious lunch!

Google
HIGHLY recommend the Wagyu tartare, magic mushrooms, and hamachi nigiri with a jalapeño on top. I wish I took photos but I enjoyed the food so much I forgot. Excellent service for a dining solo, cozy vibes, and kind servers!

Google
It is perfectly fine. Happy hour all-day Mondays (although nothing happy about $8 well drinks.) I have been here a few times over the years. I do not think the quality and price match. The two of us recently spent over a hundred on happy hour for a few hand rolls, hamachi, two drinks, and some potstickers. Oh, and one oyster shot. We understand we aren’t necessarily filling up on small bites like this and are paying for speciality food, but I’ve paid less for more and better fish. The ‘specialty roll’ was the most underwhelming of all. Drinks are always yum.

I've visited this restaurant multiple times before for both lunch and dinner. I even left a review previously because the miso soup was too salty, but I'm glad to see that it seems to have improved now. My husband and I went for a late dinner tonight after working out. However, I believe this will be our last visit. We came out for a change of mood, but it only made us feel worse.🙁 There were several issues today: 1. When the water was poured into my glass, I found a hair. I understand this wasn't intentional, so I tried to overlook it. 2. However, I then found something like a hair in the tuna tempura. At this point, my confidence in your hygiene standards was significantly shaken. I didn't mention it to the server, but I was quite displeased. 3. My husband and I each ordered a main course, and both are supposed to come with miso soup. Yet, only my husband's soup was served. I waited, assuming it would come as part of the set, but it never did until I inquired. It was then served belatedly. 4. The main course rice bowl was placed directly on a plate that was already covered in sauce. Is it proper serving etiquette to place the rice bowl on a sauce-covered plate? 5. The rice itself was partially undercooked, with a mix of soft and hard grains. 6. After finishing our meal, when we tried to sign the bill, the pen didn't work. I feel like this is something that could be checked before bringing it to the customer. Overall, it was a very disappointing dining experience today. I hope to see improvements in your hygiene and service in the future.

Google
I love trying new restaurants but have yet to find something better than Japango. For years the spicy calamari and seafood udon live rent free in my mind—all of the sushi rolls are incredible, as are the drinks and service. This is my go to for any special occasion!

Google
The food was perfectly fine, but with the prices and ingredients used you’d really expect something way better than what was given Atmosphere is great though I reserved for a raised seat not knowing it was in an awkward spot where I could barely enjoy it. Service while not rude or bad was… frustrating. We told our server that we knew what we wanted and yet she still left us with the menus and it took 10 minutes for us to have to call a different server to grab our ordering menus. And many times it felt like our server had forgotten about us. Had an enjoyable experience regardless for Christmas Eve but would not return

Yelp
Overall this is a solid option for sushi and Japanese fare. The service is very good as staff is pleasant, welcoming and efficient. They have a fun variety of virgin cocktails that are tasty. The decor is attractive, especially the tank of jelly fish in the center. Our meals were delicious. We ordered a variety of sushi , lobster pot stickers, and a couple of bento boxes. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food and felt satisfied but not stuffed at the end of the meal. We had a diabetic in our party and asked for tea with a sugar substitute. Nothing was available but sugar. This one problem could be easily solved and would go a long way towards accommodating those who need to exclude sugar from their diet.

Yelp
P.s- how could I forget the Hamachi Jalapeño?? It was so good we don't even have a pic to share. It's refreshing, light, full of flavor! Trust me and just get it!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely patio on Pearl Street. Wonderful service with fresh tasty fish. The crispy Brussels sprouts were delicious and light, the hamachi jalapeño was light and flavorful- great fish. The chef's choice new style sashimi was so good- one piece each of three of us and we loved all of the fish! The kitsune's kiss roll was full of so many different flavors, we basically fought over it. Really high quality fish, which you would expect at Pearl Street prices. Fun visit with our girl during her Freshman year.

Yelp
Fish quality was great, but items were kinda pricey. The place is definitely a fancy, date-night vibe, which was still fun with friends. Overall, I would question if it was worth the price, but they have some creative makis and more if you're looking for that!

Yelp
My friend suggested to come here and I'm glad she did. The 3 of us got seated right away in a lounge seating area with a table. It was so comfortable. Our server Vincent gave some great recommendations of sushi rolls. We ordered everything he recommended and they all tasted great but my favorite was the Himalaya which had a good spicy kick to it. We also ordered the salad which had a good ginger sauce. The edimame was also good. We also got some mock tails which was very well crafted and tasted delicious. Everything was really good and I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We went here for the all day happy hour on Mondays. The crispy brussel sprouts were a little salty, but overall a good crisp. Then we got 3 rolls and the Monster was my favorite! We finished off our meal with the green tea creme brulee which surprised me. It was sweet and not too strong/earthy, very delicious! We did also get to try the green tea ice cream, courtesy of our waiter, David. Quick shoutout to David for being a blast and the sushi chefs behind the sushi bar, they were all super fun to be hanging around! The food here was delish and the service was super quick!

Yelp
This was my first time. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. When we walked in, we were seated right away. Our waitress greeted us a few moments afterwards. The wait was pretty fair until we waited a little longer for our sushi. Japanese Fried Chicken 3.9/5 -- the only issue was the sauce. Spicy Calamari 3/5 -- the flavor was rich but it was a little too salty Montana 4/5 Sakai 5/5 The space was really nice and beautiful! It had plenty of seating indoor and outside.

Yelp
My usual go to sushi spot when in Boulder! The menu is fresh, unique and funky which I LOVE. Service is always on point as well. I always appreciate how sweet and accommodating the staff is with our toddler even though it is definitely more of an adult place. The Jellyfish tank in the middle of the room ties it all together and was also lovely entertainment for our daughter

Yelp
Ate an early dinner at Japango today. The service was friendly but a bit slow considering they were not busy yet. We had an edamame appetizer and were surprised that the edamame did not have any salt on them. We had never had handrolls before,so it was fun trying those. We enjoyed the three rolls we had. We had the Kitsune's Kiss, the Diablo, and the Hiro-Leili. I would eat here again.

Yelp
Amazing. Great drink reqs too. We didn't have a reservation and were seated within minutes on a Saturday night! Loved the rolls and nigiri!

Yelp
Nice sunomono salad, hamachi kama was spot on, the chirachi was fair. The dry cold sake really hit the spot.

Yelp
After waking up with a craving for sushi, I ventured to Japango for lunch after skimming its glowing Google reviews (my first mistake. Yelp knows better) The host gave us a few menus, one of which was slightly damp and stained, but hey, things happen. But oh man, I was perched, but the water tasted chemical-ly. I was genuinely concerned about its taste, so I asked for a new bottle, which turned out normal. I ordered the Himalayan roll which wasn't inedible, but just didn't taste very *good*. Fish quality wasn't terrible, but the flavors weren't balanced. I wondered who trained the sushi chef based on the excess rice/interesting roll technique on some of the pieces. The service could have been better; the waitress never brought my friend's miso soup which came in her combo and didn't apologize for the strange water. A lovely experience for around $30. Overall: overpriced, weird water debacle, the people who genuinely enjoy eating here probably do not eat much sushi

Yelp
We stopped here while traveling and the food was really good! Service was kind of slow but they seemed understaffed and super busy. We ordered several things but the thing that stood out the most was the CAMPFIRE MULE OMG! This was truly the BEST drink I have ever had in my entire LIFE and will talk about it everyday. The roasted marshmallow on top was literally the best marshmallow I've ever had and I don't like marshmallows. The drink itself was also so good and the flavor profile on this drink was unbelievable it deserves an award. We ordered the potstickers, a house salad, the miso soup, 2 rolls and teriyaki chicken plate. The sushi was really good! I forget which rolls we got but they were good ! The teriyaki chicken had soooo much flavor!--Amazing. The soup was really really good as well. The salad dressing was unbelievably good but it was just like really big thick pieces of lettuce which sucked but the dressing made up for it! My boyfriend absolutely loved the potstickers he got 2 orders which were really good!

Mary N.

Yelp
Had a great time. Our server was amazing, fast, nice, gave suggestions. Food was also good, miso soup, Brussels, lobster dumplings (my fav) and sushi.
google avatar

Mel N.

Yelp
I enjoyed the sushi, agedashi tofu, miso soup, thinly sliced seared pieces of beef (forgot name), Salmon Teriyaki and I didn't enjoy their in-house lemonade and side-salad. It is very loud atmosphere, not a place to have conversations. I sat at the lounge and another time at the high tables (Hazel almost got stepped on); however, parking is a challenge and walking to the restaurant is rough, due to being on oxygen. Service is good, attentive to needs!

Yelp
Great menu, great service, great size portions but I found the food okay, not incredible. Shared a bunch of plates and all were good, and probably all (including the sushi and sashimi) were significantly larger than we expected. I liked the Brussels Sprouts to start, though would have been better if they were served warm. The tuna salad had nice pieces of tuna tataki, a lot of tomatoes (which I like) and good avocado but little or no dressing. The new style sashimi again was a lot of sashimi, but I did not find the fish that special and the sauce was more oil than flavor. The other dishes people had all were good and our waitress was great, just missed being five stars.

Yelp
This place is delightful! The service is wonderful, everything was cooked perfectly. The lobster tail and accompanying sauce was to die for. The restaurant itself feels very cozy, and they create a really nice atmosphere. I'll definitely be back here the next time I find myself in Boulder!

Yelp
I love Japango! Best sushi spot on Pearl street for sure! Their rolls are super unique and so delicious. I can't even remember what we ordered, two of them are not listed on the menu since the menu online and the one at the restaurant are not the same. All of them had some form of spice in them and were the perfectly balanced. The fish was so melt in your mouth and tasted pretty fresh. I'm kind of picky when it comes to sushi since I've been to really great sushi spots, but this place hit all the marks in terms of a great place for creative rolls. The drinks were awesome too and they have a big drink menu that's organized based on flavor. I had the spicy vodka one in the fruity/floral section and my friend had the rose one also in that section. Both were wonderful and were great to sip on while eating sushi. I found that mine was kind of like a green juice just like what our server said. It did work and was good but I would say it's not for everyone even though that one was recommended. I would probably go for something else next time because of this even though I did enjoy it, because it wasn't really quite my taste. My friend loved this cocktail though. For dessert I had the bento dessert box. The chocolate cake was a bit dry but the ice cream from glacier was so so delicious so it was ok. I didn't taste the miso anywhere in the dessert. The mochi ice cream was blood orange and that was good too. Not a huge fan of mochi because it can be chewy and hard if not done right and has to be from a good place but this was really great. The sesame truffles were also good but I thought the truffles would have sesame flavor and not just be covered in sesame seeds. And why didn't they toast the sesame seeds so the texture was better? I would say the desserts were ok, and the sushi and drinks were awesome and want to go back for that. The service was good overall and our server was super friendly. I didn't like how they sat us at the end of the sushi bar by where the servers go in and out when the rest of the sushi bar was empty and they made it seem like the restaurant was full with reservations on a Thursday night but the tables weren't full at all when we left. Overall a wonderful experience and I highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
So disappointed. White people sushi. Very blame and no soul. Plating is BAD. If you care at all about raw fish or Japanese delicacy, don't come here. It's not good at all.

Yelp
JAPANGO FORT COLLINS, College Avenue, south of Mountain Saturday, April 6, 2024 (first day serving lunch in this new location) WOW! I loved it!!! Everything about it, actually! I sat at the bar to dine solo and had the daily offering of Pork Shumai in a Bento Box for $14.50 -- a great price for food of this quality. I also had Hot Sake, Green Tea, and a small Chocolate Truffle for dessert. The service was kind, friendly and thoughtful. And the interior is beautiful -- one of the most beautiful interiors, if not, THE best in Old Town. Tell your friends -- I sure hope they are an outstanding success as I live within blocks -- I can see myself dining there several times a month and not running out of options!

Yelp
When I was scoping out places I HAD to go in Boulder, I knew this was a MUST, and I wasn't wrong.... First of all, huge shout out to our server Jaylene for being the absolute best, so personable, accommodating, and totally up-selling us on the drinks! She wasn't wrong, these are the best drinks you'll ever have. We stopped in during their fantastic happy hour and were able to have a pretty much private dining experience on the patio in the middle of the walk way. I'd go back JUST for this super-cozy-fun-people-watching atmopshere. We actually initially thought we would grab a spot on the back patio, so were able to check out the entire restaurant, it is huge with a TON of different cool vibes, but ended up back on the front patio with the cushiony low lounge chairs. Ok now on to geeking out about the stunning cocktails: Rose Garden & Serrano Splash. FANTASTIC. Check out the photos to see for yourself. Truly stunning taste and totally worth the $16 price point. I also had to take advantage of the happy hour pricing on the sushi handrolls - I got 3 and they were amazing quality sushi -- lookwise and taste. You can bet on it that if I'm ever back in town this will be my first stop!! Thank you Japango.

Yelp
My star rating: * Avoid. Why are you even open? ** Avoid unless the last restaurant on earth. *** Several important misses. Not recommended. **** Very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended. ***** Hits every mark of perfection. PROS Excellent waitstaff service Nice selection of sake CONS Sushi was OK, but not something that would draw me back. The sushi bar is in the back and would have missed it if not going to the restroom. Sitting at the sushi bar was like sitting in the kitchen: stacks of plates and other items visible, strong cooking smell. When we sat down, barely noticed by sushi chefs (ie. no hello, did not feel welcome).

Yelp
Wow everything was excellent. The appetizers were bomb - sushi was incredible and the sashimi preparations were wonderful. Our server Chiara significantly added to our dining experience and was one of the best servers we've ever had. I absolutely recommend this place.

Paul K.

Yelp
Boulder roll is mediocre. Have had far better on the coasts. Nice sake and Japanese whiskey choices. Great outdoor seating amongst the flowers. Service is very knowledgeable.

Mark L.

Yelp
Good food. BUT on 5/30 a friend and I dropped $200 there over lunch, but the margarita was the weakest one I've ever tasted. I asked the waiter (who spoke with the bartender), if he could make the second one a little stronger and they said no (unless i paid an extra $9 for another shot!). A $200(!) lunch and this was the interaction?! Come on. That's the fastest way to lose a returning customer!!! :-(

Hayden J.

Yelp
Delicious food the salmon was unbelievable. Our waiter was very helpful and assisted us in choosing from the wide variety. There is also a unique environment that allows fun bar seating, but also casual and beautiful outdoor dining.

Priya P.

Yelp
This place is one of my FAVORITES in Boulder! People who have bad reviews simply just do not know what to order. The best sushi they have is on the special roll menu. The Kitsunes kiss, Hearts Delight, and Gilded Bee will NOT disappoint! I will be honest and say as of recent Japango has lacked consistency. I used to go every Monday and it would be delicious every time. Now every onceeeee in a while I will go and something is unusual or inconsistent about the taste

Yelp
Recently just moved back to BoCo with my partner and this place was one of his favorites in the past. Sooooo, when I said sushi sounded good for our standard Thursday date night, he suggested we go here. Saw the health score on here and was a liiittle freaked out, but decided to pretend I hadn't seen it and keep an open mind I feel like a lot of restaurants are really struggling with the pandemic, so I gently reminded my partner of this, as we headed in, and that even though this was a fav of his in the past.. it might suck now. Snagged a table outside, in the front, which was awesome for people watching. Server was really chill and nice. We both got the Notorious F.I.G. cocktail (O.M.G.) and order 4 different rolls, two of which were the specials for the night, off their standard menu. Cocktail was fire- I love a good bourbon drink (and figs) and this one was boozy, but balanced.. and not overly sweet or too spirit forward. It also went perfectly with the food. Sushi was very creative, but not specifically mind blowing or super fresh.. and I felt like it was kind of overpriced? Normally we order 3-4 rolls, but we ended up ordering 5 because we were both still hungry. Overall bill with tip (for 5 rolls + 1 drink each) was close to 200.. which seemed cray cray to me.. I guess it just didn't feel worth it for the quality of everything. Still was a fun date night though.. and seems like a bomb place to get a cocktail.. before maybe going somewhere else?

Kate Y.

Yelp
I experienced racial discrimination at this place. I visited on the evening of September 3 at 8 p.m. An Asian female staff member with black horn-rimmed glasses tried to guide us inside, but we wanted to sit at an outdoor table since we saw that it was available. She seemed troubled, said she would check, and then hesitated for a while, reluctantly guiding us to an outdoor table. I guess she couldn't come up with an excuse. Then, she abruptly placed cups and plates on our table and left. Even though we had already chosen our menu, the white male server in charge of the outdoor tables by the entrance served and cashed out other guests while knowingly delaying taking our order, despite us looking at him. After finally placing our order, we waited 45 minutes for the food. The sushi was barely passable, with cold, dry rice and frozen sashimi. There was no flavor except for the soy sauce. It would've been better to buy it from a supermarket. The miso soup was lukewarm and extremely salty. The only good thing here was the Kirin beer. It was an utterly disappointing and unpleasant dining experience. The staff's attitude, the food, and the ridiculously high prices--everything about this restaurant was a problem.
google avatar

Gisele P.

Yelp
Terrible service on an empty restaurant, can't imagine when is full. The food isn't impressive either and it took over an hour to arrive at our table.
google avatar

Candi R.

Yelp
On Pearl Street Mall and a fun place to grab some sushi and a cocktail. The menus is not huge but has some good selections. The bar is really nice. Would be a great place for a date night or meet up with friends. There is also outdoor seating. Decor is calming and nice. Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Sylvia B.

Yelp
service is good and prompt. food leaves much to be desired. step above mall level sushi. fresh wasn't the freshest and the portions for the apps were small for the price. ordered: - beef tataki - chewy - agedashi tofu - not enough broth but good portion - sashimi entree - fish not that fresh. especially the albacore tuna - shrimp tempura appetizer - tasted like defrosted frozen goods - fried chicken - four measly pieces for $11.

Michael H.

Yelp
Is Japango slipping? Has long been a favorite Sushi place for us but the last experience was not good. Ordered the salad which was just a pile of greens and a single variety of green at that - NOTHING else. Disappointing for a place their perceived stature. We ordered the El Corozone (sp?) which is one that we really like, the avacado on top was 50% black and rotten - had to send it back. If you are there with just two beware they will probably seat you in an area to the left that is all two-tops - way too cramped and way close to the next couple. It is like you are seated together. Not ideal for what is expected. The service was good, out server was very nice and accommodating. We will try again, hoping that this was an isolated case. Fingers crossed.

Yelp
Incredible quality & service. Aquaman roll is delicious. Appetizers were tasty& hit the spot. I was on vacation for a week & hit this place 4x it was that good!!!

Yelp
We came in for a couple drinks and some appetizers. Our server, Haley, was so sweet and upbeat. She took great care of us. The apps were good and the drinks pretty good but the pricing was a bit high. Overall it was pretty good but not worth the price we paid.

Maria P.

Yelp
This is probably the worst sushi I have ever had and I have dined from cheapest strip mall sushi to Nobu. I do not understand the pricing for the quality of fish and service. I will happily pay for high quality sushi and assumed the prices would reflect atleast semi decent food. Our sashimi was served warm, tasted stale and old. The miso cod was okay, but I've had better versions anywhere else that serves it. The rest of our order was initially forgotten and then after following up twice, we received it 20 minutes later. I wasn't expecting Nobu or Sushi Den quality, but this was a complete waste of money considering we could have had better quality fish at probably any strip mall sushi spot in Boulder County for a fraction of the cost. I actually think grocery store sushi is better quality than anything we had here. have never been concerned about getting sick from a dinner as I am now after eating whatever was wrong with the yellowtail.. I would have just never returned, but to add to an already very disappointing meal, The bartender's friend was sitting at the bar drunk, loud and clearly bothering all of the guests around him. They continued giving him cocktails and shots while he interrupted ours and others conversations. He was repeatedly yelling loudly "best dive bar in town!!" I would have been less bothered if I had chosen to go to a dive bar or the meal hadn't been so awful. The bartender should have stopped serving her clearly personal friend or asked him to lower him voice. My husband and I were really looking forward to a night out that was ruined by the bartenders obnoxious drunk friend, bad overpriced food and slow service.

David A.

Yelp
Very disappointed. We made a reservation to go there tonight at 5 PM. We showed up. They offered us the worst table in the restaurant which was a table for two which was perpendicular to the other tables in the restaurant in an extremely cramped in area. We informed the woman that we weren't comfortable sitting there, and she told us that they couldn't accommodate us. What a bunch of bullshit. Will never go here again.
google avatar

Jean G.

Yelp
First timer in Boulder and was recommended to check this spot out for some drinks and boy did it slap. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back and actually try the food!
google avatar

Abigail A.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with friends. They do take phone reservations, so I would be sure to do that if you want to get a table, especially one outside. When you are seated there is a little blurb on your menu that states that if you are uncomfortable with the plates and glassware, you can request disposable utensils and plates to use for your meal. They have a large selection of beer, sake, and wine. They also have some unique cocktails that are featured. Their menu includes appetizers, entrées which come with a bowl of miso soup, and their sushi menu. The sushi menu consists of nigiri and their various specialty rolls. We ordered the lobster potstickers for the appetizer. They were a lot smaller than I expected and there was very minimal filling, which was a little disappointing. The sushi came out of all together and it was delicious! They have this option of chef selected sashimi, which I highly recommend (see photo). The various rolls pictured below were very tasty. The only one that was a little heavy was the tempura roll which I believe is called the Nanni. All in all, it was a great meal. I think they have happy hour, so if you don't wanna break the bank, try to come here for happy hour. Definitely would go again if I was back in the area.

Yelp
Yes, it's expensive. Yes, portions are "modest", Yes, it's usually very busy... is it worth it? Yes! This is a really good sushi restaurant smack in the middle of the vibrant Pearl Street in downtown Boulder. Our server, "Stephen D" on 10/15/22 was EXCEPTIONAL. One of the most professional, engaging and knowledgable servers I've ever experienced... really impressive. Highly recommend. You'll pay for the privilege but... hey... it's worth it!

Yelp
Located conveniently on Pearl Street in Boulder, this restaurant will hit the spot if you have a sushi craving and need a classy night out. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday and we were so happy we did! The sushi and cocktails were delectable! The ambiance was pleasant and inviting. Service was timely and staff went over the top. The bartender who prepared our drinks even personally delivered them to our table. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place would have been five stars but unfortunately the service was painfully slow. We waited about 50 minutes for our sushi to come out, during a not particularly busy time. That being said, the sushi itself was fresh and fairly prized. The salmon sashimi was simple but our favorite!

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere. My favorite is the dynamite shrimp, it's a must get. I recommend ordering a bunch of hot and cold plates with some sushi to finish. The seared tuna salad and udon noodles are great! They also have some good vegan sushi options, pumpkin rolls and pickled plum rolls.

Yelp
I ate at Japango (along Pearl St. in Downtown Boulder) for dinner on April 30th & May 1st, 2022. The Sashimi Delight & Rainbow Roll are exceptional. I also got some nigiri. I enjoyed the sea urchin (uni), freshwater eel (unagi), raw scallop, & surf clam. The fish here is perfectly fresh & high quality. I also enjoyed the shumai & miso soup as well. This restaurant has the highest quality sushi-grade seafood that I've ever had.

Yelp
My second visit and the food and drinks were amazing. Ryan made me an amazing "bartenders choice" rotating cocktail and the kitchen made a few rolls that would put the best of Boulder and all the west coast I've traveled to shame. The Eastern European gal (czech maybe) was hilarious and very knowledgeable about wine. I took my mom here on my first trip and we explored the cold sake options, the hand rolls were fantastic; especially the pickled plum hand roll. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Way overpriced and decidedly too fancy for me, I just don't need burdock root in my sushi when it grows in my yard. The plum wine was not sweet, I like sweet. It was also expensive for lunch. 2 sushi rolls and 2 glasses of wine was $50. As cool and hip as the interior was there was a smoky odor that just wasn't sitting well with me, I felt like I was at a burger joint. After the fact I learned they failed the health inspection. Parking is sparse and this is a destination by foot on the pearl street mall.

Yelp
The sushi is absolutely amazing, didn't even like sushi until I came here and tried theirs. The vibe there is super chill, especially when sitting next to the jellyfish, and you really can't pick a better place for date night in Boulder if you're looking for sushi. Service is a little slow and things generally take a while to come out of the kitchen but things are worth the wait. Overall, an amazing restaurant.

Yelp
I just moved to Boulder from California and expected the sushi over here to be slim pickings...but this place is perfect. The quality of fish is insanely fresh and buttery in texture! My family is picky and there was not a single flaw here. Ambiance is a vibe and our waiters gave us awesome recommendations. I won't be going anywhere else for sushi in Boulder!!!

Yelp
Decided to stop by Boulder last Monday afternoon on the way from Estes Park to Denver International Airport after an epic long weekend visit to the area. As soon as we found a parking spot, we made a beeline for Pearl Street to find some coffee and food to carry us through our flight back home. (The pretzels on Southwest just don't do it for me.) After grabbing a coffee at Ozo, I thought the outside patio at West Flanders looked inviting for a bite to eat. Checked in at the host station and was told that they had too many customers so were metering out the tables -- there were several on the patio vacant -- and we would need to wait 15 minutes until they caught up. Decided THAT was a no-go. Looked across Pearl and saw Japango -- also with some vacant outdoor seating under large umbrellas. My wife and I are always game for Japanese food, so we wandered over -- they were happy to see us and we were seated promptly. As it turned out, Japango turned out a much better choice than the bar food on the menu at West Flanders anyway. Ordered some draft Sapporo beers for starters, along with lobster potstickers and miso black cod. The potstickers were very yummy. Unfortunately the black cod was sold out, so we went with hamachi kama -- excellent. After nibbling apps for a while, we moved on to sushi -- a salmon skin roll and several orders of hamachi and salmon nigiri. All very good. Very happy we found Japango -- the food and drink definitely hit the spot. And it was great to sit outside and enjoy a nice, Colorado summer afternoon -- thunderstorms all around us -- before the run back to the airport. Pro tip: Be sure to check out the jellyfish tank inside the restaurant!
