Where To Go On A Date With Someone Who Might Be Awful - Miami - The Infatuation

"The amount of time it’ll take this kakigori to melt is about as long as it takes to decide whether someone feels like the antagonist in a segment of Help Me Howard. Maybe Google that quickly while you’re waiting for this tiny dessert truck to shave your ice. The Design District is heavily populated and pedestrian-friendly. You can walk from one side to the other in well under 30 minutes. If they insist on going into the Burberry store only to have their credit card denied, run." - virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer

The 11 Best Restaurants In The Design District

"Japow is a tiny food truck that makes the Japanese shaved ice dessert known as kakigori. While it’s not really a restaurant, it’s a must-visit if walking through the Design District on any day that creeps above 80 degrees. They shave the ice fresh with a little machine, filling the bowl with a dozen or so flavor options ranging from mango lassi to cortadito. Our favorite is the tiger tempura, which is infused with what tastes like cereal milk, then topped with milk espuma and Frosted Flakes. It’ll not only make you happy, but help you stop sweating." - ryan pfeffer

The Best Shaved Ice In Miami

"This is the best place in Miami to get kakigori. The little Design District food truck has fluffy, delicate shaved ice and a bunch of different flavors. Each order of kakigori also gets its own custom whipped cream. So, if you order the passion fruit mountain (which you should), you will also get passion fruit whipped cream—not only on top but also buried inside. Besides that, we also love the tiger tempura, which tastes like cereal milk in frozen form and is topped with Frosted Flakes." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, carlos c olaechea

Happy was good but a bit overpriced for what it is. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed it but for glorified shaved ice, it is a little pricey

Google
Best ice cream I have ever have in my whole entire life! It is delicious, light, perfectly sweet and fluffy ! So original. It is TOO GOOD! You must try the coconut one- my favorite but matcha is very good too!

Google
Great place to stop, chat and have great shaved ice. Lilly was an absolute darling helping us with our order (given that I dropped mine before I could eat it), and she made the experience a lot better. Tons of flavours to choose from, and super fun might I add haha. Awesome for this hot weather in Miami. Totally recommend it. Thanks Lilly!

Google
Japow is my favorite sweet treat in Miami. They have the best flavors and Lilly is always so kind and helpful. My favorite is strawberry milk sooo good. Make sure you make your way here in design district for the best Japanese shaved ice!

Google
Such a cute place! Line can get long but worth it, got the strawberry daifuku.

I tried this place while visiting Miami with my wife. I’ve tried a lot of similar places but this one takes the cake. The owner was there working on the products herself. She provided me with amazing and friendly customer service. I tried the passion mountain flavor. It was delicious and refreshing. I highly recommend you check out Japow if you’re ever in the Miami Design District area.

Yelp
Japow? More like Ja-Wow! No, but seriously, this place is a nice sweet snack located in the midst of the hustle and bustle that is the tyrannical Design District. Tired of being harassed by people asking for your time or being looked down upon by the affluent luxury brands that give you sterile looks because you can't shop there? Great--Japow is here for you. Not only is it affordable, they do a great job giving you concoctions that fill in those sweets cravings, while also allowing you to experiment in combinations that fulfill both Eastern and Western palettes. I mean, honestly the cream and shaved ice combo proves itself to be the best combination for a dessert that feels light and still delectable. Take a break when you're done window shopping and give this Japanese shaved ice truck a chance. Forget scoops of ice cream--trust me when I say that sometimes shaved ice with some cream on top does the job much better.

Yelp
I was in the area so I stopped in on a Thursday at noon. It is literally the smallest food truck I've ever seen. It is located just outside of the Chanel store in a small courtyard located in the Miami Design District. This Japanese shaved ice is like a Colombian raspado but at a higher price point and with way more toppings. I tried the small matcha cake ($8). As the base, it has plain shaved ice with a cold matcha flavored syrup added to the ice. There are pieces of small cookies (sort of like Pirulín) with sweet matcha-flavored filling mixed in. Matcha is very bitter. I should have gone with the passion fruit. It cost $8 then I had to pay for parking in the garage ($3) because there is very limited street parking in general. A bit pricey IMHO for a raspado but the setting is very calming and the service was good.

Yelp
Cute little dessert stand towards the back Miami's Design District. I think this place is one of the hidden gems of the design district. The price for what you get is not bad at all! Considering all the other expensive $$$$ places for small bites (I'm looking at you Dior Cafe ) located in the Design District. The Japanese Shaved ice was so refreshing! I got the Matcha Cake, while one of my friends got the Goku. The Matcha Cake was not too sweet at all. The matcha flavor was perfectly balanced with the refreshing shaved iced and the milk espuma on top was very pillowy and foamy in texture. I didn't try the Goku, but my friend finish every last bit/drop, so I'm assuming they really liked it also. I'd definitely recommend you to visit this place if you are in the area. Parking is pretty affordable too. If you park in one if the garages, it is $3 for 4 hours - much better than the street parking nearby.

Yelp
Super mid. Literally just shaved ice with syrup. I got matcha and mango and both taste very bland. If you have the food preferences of an almond mom (i.e., bland, low sugar, low calorie) then this is the place for you.

Yelp
Love it! So tasty, light and very few calories! Perfect combo! Wish they had more locations throughout the city!

Yelp
The little cart is so sweet! The ice is delicious and the foam gives it a nice touch. I tried the passion fruit with passion fruit foam and almonds between the layers. The flavor was spot on and it was quick! It was located in a beautiful shopping district and had small tables to eat outside.

Josh A.

Yelp
The flavor is mediocre and note to self if you want an extra tiny plate you must Tip or else the rude lady will not give it. When paying almost $10 for shaved ice you would think a 30 cent plate could be included.
google avatar

Yelp
A little cart in the design district with a wide variety of shaved ice flavors, with a very helpful attendant and really friendly service... nothing like it on a hot Miami day... but hurry... the heat will turn to juice your shaved ice in no time.

Yelp
Japanese Shaved ice food truck. Love this spot in design district. Grabbed the dulce de leche brownie. Friendly staff. A bit pricey but you're paying the area. Huge shaved ice fanatic and this one is really one of My favorites in the Miami area. Well recommended.

Yelp
I was walking by, for the first time in the area and couldn't help but to think about those Japanese shaved ice cups I kept walking around the shopping center and on my way back towards my car. I had to make a stop and try them fruity ice cups. I went with the passion fruit and white cream on top. Did not disappointed My friend wanted the sweetest one, and so she was suggested to get the dulce de leche or strawberry. Dulce The leche was the winner and it was also yammy Give it shot if you're in the area. Now during Covid times and in this Miami weather, it'll be a delightful surprise

Yelp
I accidentally stumbled on this cart when I was looking to get ice cream from Frohzen, so I figured a little extra ice wouldn't hurt. Self-advertised as the "first kakigori shop in Miami", this is a great start for the city. I groaned at first when I saw some of the menu options until I saw them listed under "Kids Flavors", in which case one with gummy bears and one with starburst is not a bad idea at all to entice children to want to try something different. But for adults, please stick to the top portion of the menu, which includes a great Passionfruit flavor ($9 for regular and $8 for small). The Strawberry Pistachio is also solid. The texture on both was a bit icy, but still a great new tasty, lighter option that is welcome in the Miami heat.

Yelp
I think I could make better shaved ice at home and only using my feet. They literally take a frozen block of water, shave it using a crappy manual shaved ice machine, and pour sugary syrup on top. Bam all for $9 too! DO NOT go here. Save your money. Save your time.

K A.

Yelp
We stopped by this cute little shaved ice stand for a quick break from the heat. We tried the original lemonade flavor, which was good, and the server was friendly. I'll give 4 rather than 5 just because the prices were pretty high for what you get, but I suppose that's a hazard of the area!

Yelp
If you see this little sweet shaved iced mini dessert truck in the Design District, make sure to stop by and grab your treat! Karigori is a Japanese dessert consisting of delicately shaved ice flavored w sweet syrup and condensed milk. I ordered a small limited flavor Pineapple Avalanche, a mini mountain of ice topped w a sweet and tart syrups along w light whipped cream acting as the cocunut espuma, chunks of pineapple and macadamia nut top the goodness! The location of the dessert truck is near the Gucci store and has ample seating area to enjoy your treat!

Yelp
When I first saw this Japanese shaved ice cart I talked myself out of getting anything. But while I was doing my nails upstairs at Vanity Projects I just couldn't stop thinking about Japow. Following my appointment, I decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad I did. The person taking my order was incredibly kind and knowledgable. I was between two flavors (dulce de leche brownie & matcha tres leches) and she did not lead me astray with her recommendation. The dulce de leche brownie was DELISH. It's was a light sweet treat with plenty of dulce de leche flavor and a nice brownie crunch. If you find yourself in the Design District, definitely stop by!

Yelp
We got a strawberry pistachio snow come. Very tasty. Very refreshing. Very light. It was so good we immediately got a second one. The ice is super finely shaved, so it melts kind of fast in the hot Florida weather but it won't matter because you eat it so fast. About halfway to the bottom they layer the sauce, espuma, and pistachio, which makes the bottom just as just as the top. I was surprised how well the pistachio nuts went with the strawberry flavor but it was delicious.

Yelp
Japow is a beautiful place!! The shaved ice and mango milk was is perfect. Cthe portion size was just enough and for the price, especially in that area. Can't wait to go back, i saw that she sold bubble tea in a can.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best shaved ice establishments I have been to. The ingredients are fresh and the service is on point. Lily the owner is hands on and really puts love into the product. Grab a nice ice on a hot miami day and people watch! Highly recommend

Yelp
Overall 4/5: Located in the Miami Design District, the cute pink truck drew my eyes to it. It was the first thing we saw when we exited from the parking garage. The shaved ice was such a good choice for the hot weather. Pretty expensive for shaved ice, but it was convenient. Food 5/5: We went with the rainbow flavor, it had strawberry, mango, and blackberry flavoring along with gummy bears. I loved that there were gummy bears all throughout, and not just on the top. It was so cute. They had so many other flavors that sounded great including a mango lassi flavor which my friends went with and said was great. Wouldn't have it every day, but I was on vacation. Ready for some good eats! Thank you, Japow!

Yelp
We love love Japow! Hand shaved Japanese style ice with real fruit flavors. It's light refreshing and not too sweet. Favorites include the strawberry and also the mango lassi. It's family owned and run by a true culinary creative. A must stop in the design district near Gucci!

Yelp
We were told that they close at 6 me. We came 1/2 hour before they closed and the guy said he his closing. My 5 year old son was so looking forward to it. The guy was too busy on his phone that he couldn't serve my boy an ice. Very disappointing. My son said forget them he never wants to come back.

Yelp
Refreshing shaved ice and natural fruity flavors. I got the mango lassi and it was delicious. Highly recommend this place! Not too sweet and light for these nice sunny Miami days!

Yelp
Great service and great concept! Right in the middle of design district ... adult granizados is what I like to call them...

Yelp
I wish I can say nice thing about this place. I have had shaved ice in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hawaii, and New York so I am very familiar with the price and taste. To me, portion is too small for $10. The lady wore the same gloves to take my money and shaped the ice. I think she should put on the gloves after took my money. I had the mango milk. Picture on the truck showed heaping chunk of ice, cream, and mango. What I got was 2 small scoops of ice, drizzled with condensed milk and 5 small finely diced mango. All this for $10. It should be $9 plus change but she said she didn't have any change in the cashier. Why didn't she say anything before I paid her? I could have paid her with credit card. This is by Design District and mainly for tourists. I won't go there again. Go to Amazon and buy the machine. Crush it yourself.
