Everything was delicious! Fish and Rice cooked to perfection! I favored the garlic chili oysters over the stuffed. Cocktail was amazing! Service was excellent! We went right before closing and still received quality service and didn’t feel rushed! Will definitely return. 👏🏾

Google
I came in for happy hour oysters. They were the most briny I have ever had. No worries the sweet cocktail sauce leveled it out. Prices were great! Michael gave me some of the best hospitality I have ever gotten in this city. A very genuine young man. I will come back for the service and fresh seafood.

Google
This is a favorite spot of mine! Tuesdays and Thursdays are $1.50 oysters and $4 margaritas! The seafood is always fresh and the service is always so kind and sweet! I highly recommend!

Google
Fantastic 1st time visit. We will return to try more items but what we had was amazing. So much flavor in all we tried. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and went so well with the Chipotle Shrimp.

My family and I were visiting KC and decided to try Jarocho for dinner on Saturday night. Surprisingly it wasn’t busy and we were able to seat and order right away. Everything we ordered was delicious and the raw oysters were the most flavorful and one of the best ones I’ve had. The staff and waitress were very welcoming and friendly. This was the best meal we ate here in KC the couple of days we were in town. If we are ever I. The area again, we’ll be stopping back here for sure.

Liz

Google
I thought this place wasn’t even opened! I looked it up and saw that Oysters were $1.50 on Thursdays—we were excited! We arrive and the waiter had said it would be a 45min wait which was okay for us. We stood there for a few minutes for him to seat us and he kinda ignored us. We literally had to tell him if we could sit. We sat there for a while and took our drink order. The coke was flat😒 and our waters were brought towards the end of the meal. And the oysters…he said they were out (had given the last ones to the table that came after us) HOWEVER, they were other oysters available—the grilled ones. Service 👎🏼 the food is way overpriced. $29 for the plate pictured below. The campechana had way too much onions. This was not a good experience for us and will not be returning.

Google
First time visit on Valentines Day and was not disappointed. Started with raw oysters and some crab cheese dip. Entrees included Shrimp Ceviche, Seafood Paella, and Lobster Risotto, with attention paid to presentation and flavor. The focus is mainly on seafood with a Latin twist. Looking forward to a return visit.

Rosie B.

Yelp
Went for our anniversary, it happened to be a Tuesday so we had a dozen $1.50 oysters (available on Tuesdays only!). They also had a red snapper special so we totally ate that up. We will absolutely be coming back here, the environment was chill and the service was excellent. They have an awesome First Sunday of the Month Brunch, so we hope to book a reservation for that soon! Thank you!

Yelp
Jeez, so Jarocho has been on my list of places to try for....I don't even know how long. But we finally did it...because what better way to celebrate your birthday month than to try a new spot with your man?? (Especially since he's not a big seafood guy!) I love that it's got the murals outside with all the sea life - I'm really partial to the ocean themes (I mean come on I have a full on under the sea sleeve tattoo!) and loved the interior decor - all the octopi!! Thankfully we got here early enough that the restaurant was fairly empty and were seated quickly. The manager(?) was very efficient - we got our menus, waters, and drinks right away. My man was slight disappointed as Jarocho does not have Agua Frescas and he does love Horchata. He was definitely satisfied with the Jarritos Mandarin and I, of course, got Anejo Tequia. As I'd seen the menu online in preparation for coming here we were able to figure out what our starts would be - the amazing blue crab queso and the grilled stuffed oysters (6). Let me just say...OMG both were to die for I love nothing more the well prepared and well cooked seafood and the starters were phenomenal! Those oysters were freaking amazing - everything was cooked to perfection! Obviously the oysters took longer to be ready so we didn't order our entrees until we were part way through - we got the seared jumbo scallops and seafood paella. OMG the paella was amazing and perfectly cooked. He wasn't into the scallops but we think because he prefers the smaller sweeter ones to the jumbo deliciousness that he had. Everything was soooooo good....but not enough room to finish or to have dessert. I thoroughly enjoyed the leftovers the next day. :) We were well taken care of throughout the meal and really enjoyed our date night! We'll (for sure I'll) be back soon! Of course, we'll also try the South location, because...well...duh!

Yelp
We ordered from special menu. Seafood boiled was a little strong seasoning for my taste. Lobster was really good perfect... I love the whole lobster. Small and nice place inside regardless of the neighborhood. Friendly service. The waiter told us about their all you can eat every month first weekend. Their fried fishes are one of the kind.

Cassandra P.

Yelp
It's delicious. Food is seasoned appropriately. Staff was nice. Truly a hidden gem. Paella is best shared between 2 ppl.

Sarah P.

Yelp
It's a super casual place in KCK that is pretty unassuming, but the vibe is chill and food is quite delicious! I thought food was well seasoned, the ceviche was a little bit over lime tasting, still good. The paella was delicious and if you also got Leche de Tigre, the sauce poured over some of the paella rice, was SUCH a good combo. We also got baby octopus which was fresh and not fishy tasting. Their guac was super fresh and went by fast, as did the French fries which were well seasoned.

Dawny M.

Yelp
This location in KC Kansas, is small. It's not in the best part of town. The food was very good and service was friendly and attentive. We started with guacamole that was served with a large basket of chips. My husband and I both got trout, mine fire grilled, his stuffed. Both were good. They needed a squeeze of lime juice, to brighten them up. The coleslaw is perfect for adding to a table made taco with some of the trout. Our meals were served with flour or corn tortillas, your choice. We would definitely go back. Next time I'll try the ceviche, I heard other guests raving about.

Dat T.

Yelp
Top notch restaurant where you least expect it. Considering that KC is completely land locked, you wouldn't expect great seafood, let alone fresh oysters - we were definitely impressed when we tasted ours, and they didn't taste old/overly briny at all. Granted, these oysters are smaller in size than the ones you'd find on the coasts, but for our expectations, it was great. We also tried the baked oysters and those were wonderful. Lots of flavor, and would definitely order again. Finally, main course of the evening was the fish fillet - can't remember what type of fish it was, but it was made to order. The salsa they provided was one of the most unique salsas I've had - it was spicy but extremely flavorful, and I would have loved to get a bottle of it to take home. The fish was a little pricey, and we weren't given that many tortillas, so that was something to consider. Our server did a great job explaining all the different dishes we were interested in. Ambiance is alright. Not super cozy or upscale, just a straightforward restaurant with typical seating. Definitely a hidden gem in KC and would recommend for anyone to try out!

Erik J.

Yelp
This was my first time here. I got there just as they opened, the floor was still damp, as I walked in the host warned. The oysters in chili butter were absolutely fantastic. You'll want to drink the butter right out of the shell. They bring crackers and two types of hot sauce. They were not needed, but they too were flavorful. I would have liked a little crusty bread with them to soak up the butter. I ordered the Steak and Shrimp. The steak was cooked exactly right, medium rare. The shrimp came in the chipotle jalapeno sauce, flavorful without being spicy. They cook real rice, not the minute rice you find in other places. It is a very casual place, a few booths and and tables. It reminds me of a mom and pop place in a rural area. You wouldn't expect this high of caliber of food when you walk in. Even though it's a little of a drive to get there, I will be back

Kelly K.

Yelp
So tasty!! I've been here twice, and got the scallops both times. So delicious. The crab queso and sangria are also great. NOTE: if you have dietary restrictions, I'd make sure to ask your server. I went with a pescatarian friend and the menu did not disclose that there is pork in the Spanish rice. Luckily she asked and ended up ordering something else, but as a predominantly seafood establishment, they should really disclose which dishes have meat, pork, etc. since I'm sure tons of pescatarians and other people with food restrictions choose this place (and they should! It's great!). But, just a note of caution.

Brittany R.

Yelp
The food was outstanding and the serves was just as good! Everything we ordered was great and mostly on special. We are not from around KC but thought we would try it out and very happy we did.

Calie H.

Yelp
Came here for $1.50 oysters for Happy Hour. But we walked out with a huge tab. Probably around $60 or more per person, not including tips. So, if you are looking for a cheap date-night, this is not the place. Food is pricey. But large portion and great flavors. I will definitely go back to try their other items.

Ariel W.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The shrimp and claws were absolutely to die for!!! The service was fantastic, the waiter was so informative and you could tell he really loves his job!!! Such a nice man! The margarita was one of the best I have ever had! Definitely recommending this place to all of my family and friends!!! I will be going back very soon!

Ryan H.

Yelp
My buddy came here for their brunch buffet. Each had 6 oyster, most of their menus items and we felt sick afterward. I threw up a couple hours afterwards and my buddy felt nauseous and sick. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Hard core food poisoning. Service was nice though and a bit loud but for 31 bucks each, not worth it when you got sick.

Melanie C.

Yelp
Highly recommend going here for brunch!! The food was amazing! Make sure you get the coconut shrimp...

Lucas S.

Yelp
Great seafood in KC starts here. The whole fried fish or shrimp dishes are fantastic. Great oyster deals and 4 dollar house margs that are actually tasty? Yep. Great service and while location is not great, you'll forget about it right when you get your food.

Kelley M.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat. We had the lobster which was delicious. Along with spicy shrimp appetizers and drinks. Highly recommend

Maya W.

Yelp
I don't know where to start. The food is amazing. the service is great. I didn't want to leave. The atmosphere was lively kinda like being at a friend's house. Def worth the price!

Jimmy N.

Yelp
Jarocho is one of the best kept secrets in Kansas City. Unassuming building, amazing atmosphere inside with exceptional service and seafood flavors that stacks up to the best seafood restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico. You simply cannot have a bad meal here. Cheers

Pepper W.

Yelp
That whole lobster and elote was awesome. Can't wait to return and try more items on the menu.

Susan M.

Yelp
First, cast aside any qualms you have if it's in an unfamiliar neighborhood to you...and persist even if you, like us, have a hard time finding it! It's worth the effort and the journey. Look for the REALLY bright aqua exterior! Very interesting seafood/Mexican combos. Since they're renowned for their seafood, I highly recommend trying any of those menu items...even IF the ingredients include octopus or something that sounds strange, or "not yummy"...you'll be pleasantly surprised! We had an extremely patient, friendly, knowledgeable server, and all personnel we encountered were also all those things! Inside is also colorful and pleasant, but kind of bare bones in terms of seating comfort. Go! Eat! Enjoy!

Jessica B.

Yelp
We got up Jarocho when they first opened and I remember really liking the whole fish and a few new-to-me dishes. But somehow hadn't gotten back in a while. Went in for lunch on a Friday. Not overly crowded, attentive service and absolutely fantastic fare. My fave: Stuffed pan seared fish that was like an étouffée but with dreamy soft tortillas and a cabbage slaw for rolling into tacos. Baaarely 2nd (by a very close margin): Absolutely divine roasted brussel sprouts and potatoes, smothered in chipotle sauce. A decadent saffron lobster risotto that was almost too rich to finish. And churros with a crema (texture: somewhere between whipped cream and ice cream) dusted with dried raspberry.

Holly B.

Yelp
I love oysters, and I love that Jarocho has both Tuesday and Thursday specials for oysters. I went there for the first time and got the first 6. It was tasty, and I loved the cocktail sauce, and the hot sauce as well. I had to get to another 6! If I could, I would probably just have another dozen of oysters! The cocktail (blue crab meat) was good. I always love to try different things and I am planning on coming back to try more of the hot menu for sure. P.S. I loved the Michelada!

Brisje G.

Yelp
Hands down the best food I have had in Kansas City! Everything I ordered was so flavorful and delicious! The food came out hot. I wish I had more time in Kansas City. This is definitely a place I would visit more than once. The food I had was the Ceviche Tostadas, Shrimp Cucaracha, Stuffed Trout, and Churros.

Kathy W.

Yelp
We had lunch there we started off with some seafood cocktail Pacifico ceviche and oysters. Everything was a superb quality with a very healthy portion of ceviche as well. I believe there were four or five different ceviche to choose from on the menu. Within ordered the paella which was outstanding we just got one there were three of us and there were still leftovers. It looks like the place has fresh paint ( bright and cheerful) they are practicing social distancing with their tables. Staff was very nice and friendly. I can't wait to go back I'm anxious to try the stuffed trout.

Christina P.

Yelp
This one has been on my list for awhile now so we gave it a try for our daughter's birthday dinner. The space is quite small and the food is a bit hit or miss but the service was great and the staff is very nice to work with. We brought two bottles of wine and were only charged a $15 corkage fee for both. That, in itself, is worth it and they were also very gracious about letting us bring a birthday cake in. The grilled chili butter oysters were flavorful but fishy. The jumbo shrimp cucaracha were perfectly cooked and full of spice and a nice heat. The seafood paella was great as was the shrimp chipotle but the stuffed trout was a bit bland. A definite highlight was the corn elote. A must try. I would give Jarocho another try as I really did enjoy the service and laid-back vibe.

James C.

Yelp
Place is amazing. To the service, the food the ambiance, everything and they're open on Sundays. Get the Paella.

Edward S.

Yelp
Great food in a very unassuming place. I'm very surprised to find Mexican seafood of that quality in Kansas City...much less next to a grain elevator! Get the shrimp with the slightly spicy red sauce called "Cucaracha Dinner". The flavors were clearly fresh and made from scratch. I wanted to lick the plate on that one! Also got the Octopus in ink which was very good as well.

Steve N.

Yelp
Food prepared to be very tasty. Service was good for a busy Saturday night. We split a fried snapper with sides and were very pleased.

Faria M.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE If you are looking for fantastic Mexican seafood fusion, Jaracho should be a stop on your foodie list. The building is brightly colored although a bit on the casual side (this is not an upscale joint by any means). What it lacks in glamour it makes up for food quality and flavor. I ordered the lobster which comes with a side of elote. I've been on the hunt for a good elote in Kansas City, and it's safe to say my journey has come to an end. The lobster was grilled to perfection with a side of spiced melted butter. I didn't care too much for the vinegar slaw that came with the dish, but everything else was superb and fresh. We got stuffed oysters as an appetizer, which was really good too. This place is a bit pricey, but it's what you'd expect for quality seafood. I highly recommend giving this place a try ( ps it was featured on Diners Drive-ins & Dives)

Heather M.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. We had the best authentic Mexican food and the best service. Everything was delicious, fresh and presented well. Margaritas are delicious as well. Our sever, Jonah could not have been better! He gave great recommendations and was attentive and kind. Will be visiting again and will be recommending to everyone I know!

Sara B.

Yelp
Amazing brunch if you can get in. First Sunday of the month. Book early! The best street corn, and known for their paella! Try ALL the ceviches!!!

Brittany C.

Yelp
Currently beating myself up that this place has been on my list to try for over a year. This is hands down our new favorite place! We opted for trying out the OG location in KCK and the hole in the wall vibe is perfect. The outside of the building has amazing sea creature murals that might be off putting to some, but we thought it was great. The inside is very simple decor that goes with the casual Mexican seafood vibe. I was glad I had made a reservation because shortly after we sat down the place was packed! We started with a beer and a margarita and ordered blue crab queso. Kill me now! This was the perfect start to our carb focused seafood dinner. Appetizer round 2 was the the tiger milk ceviche that my husband loved. Our main dishes were the squid in black ink (him) and the stuffed fish (me). Each were served with perfectly cooked rice and homemade tortillas. Of course we had to order dessert and we kept it classic with the churros. Jarocho takes the classic churro and elevates it with hibiscus powder and ice cream. This place is so special. I almost hate to write a review in fear of more people discovering this gem! We'd love to come back to try their lunch menu.

Judy L.

Yelp
YUM! I love this place. Every time I have a hankering for seafood, Jaracho is where I go. The original brick building is kind of sketch, but once you walk inside, it's a different atmosphere. It's very homey and quaint. There are a lot of daily specials so I would take advantage of that. $2 delicious margs on a Wednesday? Yes, please!! The waitress was very knowledgeable when we asked for her recommendations. She mentioned that she used to not like seafood but ended up working at Jaracho where they made her try everything on the menu and the different variety of fish so that she could explain the taste and texture. We went with a whole grilled fish (walleye), octupus tostada and the shrimp. The seafood paella was on special so we ordered that. Actually, we tried to order more but the waitress said it was a lot of food to consume so we took her advice. Everything was so delicious. The octopus tostada was SO good. It actually reminds me of a ceviche tostada cart in Ensenada. The only thing I would not order again is the seafood paella. They're not known for making paella so don't order it. It's a little too soggy for my liking... but I still ate it all! I love this little place and will always come back. It's such a lovely time.

Konstantza K.

Yelp
And I forgot to mention that the place is not clean: the tables, the seats, the bathroom.

Scarlett D.

Yelp
Very fresh oysters for $1.50 Tuesdays and Thursdays with $2.99 house margaritas. Their cocktail sauce is more like salsa than cocktail sauce, so just know that. You HAVE to try the elote, it's SUPERB. I came strictly for the oysters, but left with the elote on my mind. So great!

Suus B.

Yelp
A favorite every time I go to KCMO to visit family. This most recent visit eight of us left very pleased. I ordered the stuffed trout and it was fantastic. Being from California, near the ocean with plenty of great seafood, it's a bit silly going so far inland for seafood, but this place is hooked up and it's been wonderful every time. Oh! My Sister in law had a fantastic ceviche which I plan to get the next time I'm in the area. Enjoy!

Sean S.

Yelp
So one of my best friends from high school was coming through town and wanted to do lunch. Jarocho had come highly recommended by a chef I know so I wanted to try it. Upon rolling up, the place looked like your typical Mexican place on the Ave in the Argentine area. Stepping inside I was happily surprised. The place was quiet and there were a couple of other diners there, but it was bright and clean. We were told to take a seat and someone would come help us shortly. Literally, the young man was there before our butts hit the chairs. One downer point, the only tea they offered was sweet tea. Both my friend and I were bummed about that. The young man was very apologetic and left us our menus. The selection was really great. I opted for a half dozen oysters and the Caracol Coctel (Conch Cocktail). My friend had the Shrimp Cucaracha. The oysters were fresh and served with a simple Mexican cocktail sauce that was very good with them, The Conch Cocktail was great. Thinner in consistency than the Coctel de Camarones I'm used to, but very good. The conch was a hair tough, but it is Kansas and we hardly have fresh conch anywhere nearby, so that wasn't an issue. I was actually surprised at the conch being as good as it was given the locale. The shrimp were good sized and the spicy sauce they were cooked in was fantastic. It didn't overpower the shrimp at all and the two married beautifully. We sat and caught up and the staff were great. They didn't try to rush us out and attended to our needs the whole time we were there. I have to say I am so glad I got the nod from friends and will definitely go back.

Whitney B.

Yelp
Delicious reasonably priced Mexican seafood with chill vibes at the KCK location. The fish filet is delicious, as is the deep fried fresh catch, and chipotle shrimp. As far as ceviches, leche de Tigre is by far the best! Oysters are yummy and discounted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Highly recommend for any occasion! Great service as well!

Hajir A.

Yelp
Corn elote (amazing), fire grilled fish (loved it), baked oysters (okay), grilled lobster (okay).

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Another amazing meal @jarochokc Started with the grill baby octopus, scallop ceviche, and the Pacifico ceviche (the carrot is really good don't be scared). Then whole fried snapper. The fried Fish is always a great choice, the fish type will change but the fry and fixings stay the same.

Yicheng B.

Yelp
The food was delicious, we got the grilled stuffed oysters and Seafood Paella with mango margaritas and churros for desert. Honestly I was impressed with the quality and flavors of the shrimp, calamari, oysters, and fish. Will likely be returning soon to try other dishes. However, the prices are higher than you'd expect for the area and the appearance of the building.

debin b.

Yelp
Walking in to a place 45 mins before close is not my favorite. I want to take my time & enjoy my experience & past has proven many places make you feel rushed. Not here! The service was phenomenal. Very attentive & suggestions made were on point! Fresh oysters! What a treat. We also had scallops & Spanish Paella. Great infusion of Baja-style flair & Spanish flavors. I normally am not a fan of tequila but a smokey-style tequila was recommended & the drink, along with the entire presentation was a wonderful experience. We never felt rushed even though we were there for 30 minutes after close. Can't wait to go back!

Komal K.

Yelp
I recently enjoyed a lovely birthday meal here. Considering it was a Friday night, I was incredibly impressed with the quality of food and the wonderful service. We enjoyed an appetizer of guac and chips, oysters, and tostadas. Everything was tasty and fresh, and the oysters deserve a special mention for the level of quality. I think the guac needed more flavour and was the weakest part of the entire meal. For our mains, we got baked oysters, stuffed fish filet, and a shrimp dish that was a little spicier. Everything was delicious and the seafood tasted very fresh. The fish filet and oysters were to die for, and I suggest giving those dishes a try. I would highly recommend for seafood lovers or for anyone wanting to find a gem in an area they may not normally visit. They also serve brunch on the weekend, so I will definitely be back to try it out.

Thi G.

Yelp
This place is great for seafood. It's very quaint and located in a strip mall. The kitchen is pretty open and the place just radiates of homely cooking. Their seafood is very fresh and the execution is solid. I had their cucharacha shrimp both times. One was with the shells on and the other without shells. There is definitely more flavor with the shells on, but it's a mess to remove all the shells. Be ready to be licking your fingers throughout your meal - it's not a bad thing, really. I also had the seafood paella which was really great as well. Better than the one from that I had catered for a wedding from a local restaurant. Their fish is fresh and flavorful and each dish is simply prepared with the freshest ingredients. I really wanted to try their ink squid pasta so that may be on my list the next time I come. If you want fresh seafood, come here. Don't miss out on their specials that they have throughout the week!

Ben B.

Yelp
Just go for it. Eat the octopus in ink. Eat a fish with the head on it. Have a cold drink and relax. This is great place to spend time.

Roberta O.

Yelp
We visited based on reviews from Yelp and other places. It is in a strip mall. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly - offering suggestions. It was a little pricey but not outrageous for the actual food. We both had stuffed trout with rice and slaw - was SOOOOO good. Definitely going back!

B.D. R.

Yelp
Never judge a book by its cover, this place is great! Reminds me of the little hole-in-the-wall places in LA that always had the best food. I ordered a delicious steak and shrimp and, of course, a margarita on the side. Service was just icing on the cake. Find it once, you'll go back again. Love it.

Jessica E.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service! Definitely will go again. Make a reservation as it is small building.

Shannon A.

Yelp
We had dinner tonight at Jarocho! Was really great!! We had lobster fettuccine, stuffed tours, fried snapper, chipotle shrimp pasta, whole lobster . Was great, they take their time a d do it right and fresh s
