Where to Find Chicago’s Best Paczki | Eater Chicago

"Since 1959, this Elk Grove Village family-owned bakery has been creating from scratch baked goods for holidays and everyday treats. For Paczki Day, look for 12 different varieties of these fried yeast doughnuts, including strawberry, blueberry, cheese, and custard with powdered sugar. The last day to order online or by phone is March 1." - Lisa Shames

I love this small business. The employees are hard working, and the food is always delicious! The seasonal cream cake is a personal fave! I love the smell of the baked goods when you walk in. The new owners haven't changed the Jarosch tradition! Kudos to them! I have used them for work events and for personal events, and everyone ALWAYS asks where the pastry or cake came from!

We got the coffee cakes for our company holiday party from Jarosch Bakery again this year, and I think they were better than ever! I cannot even imagine a more delicious coffee cake. We had the raspberry custard strip, the marzipan pretzel shaped coffee cake, and the blueberry melody coffee cake. They were all fresh and delicious with plenty of tasty filling. We also get all of our birthday cakes from here throughout the year (10-15 cakes) and they are always fresh and delicious as well (we always get the ones that are already made in the case and then have them write "Happy Birthday" on them). The staff has always been super nice to me. The bakery is older, but it's always nice and clean. I think it's charming, and I actually prefer it's traditional bakery style. And I love the way the machine wraps the string around the cake boxes. I've been coming here for years and it's always been good, but I think the new management/owners have actually improved it.

Update: We cut into the cake there was a hair in the cake will be calling jarosch tomorrow again. The chocolate part of the cake was dry there was barely any fruit in it. Sadly won’t be a customer of jarosch anymore this bakery has lost its ambiance & specialty. I miss the jarosch paper jarosch wrapping the small details. My dad even said this is the worst cake I’ve seen in 30 years from jarosch. I am very disappointed with the cake and the service I received today 9/20. My family has been customers of jarosch for over 25 years. We’ve ordered many cakes from here. I ordered a cake for my dad’s birthday, usually we do the flowers for decoration. Well I saw a cake with balloons and confetti on their website from 3 months ago the photo was posted so I thought oh that’s cute for my dad instead of flowers. I expected the cake to look similar to the photo on google. When I saw it I was shocked. I had a family member pick it up since I was working that day. It looks absolutely nothing like the photo and the balloons costed an extra $6 for the design. The confetti also looked atrocious. I called and the lady on the phone was very ignorant and rude saying it’s multiple cake decorators and she doesn’t know what photo I’m talking about she isn’t sitting in front of a computer. I said it’s the only photo with balloons on your site and it says happy birthday Emily on it. She wasn’t very understanding and said it’s not a machine doing it they aren’t all going to be the same we aren’t a factory. Her tone and attitude was rude and not nice no hospitality at all. The cake looks sloppy and rushed and just overall bad cake decorating. I’m hoping it taste better than it looks and that hasn’t changed as well. She gave me a $25 store credit . I expect more from this business you are a family owned business that’s been open for many years and your prices are up there too. An 8 inch cake I paid $52 for I expect more otherwise I would go to jewel or Walmart. I also drive 45 minutes just for this bakery and it is disappointing. You are a bakery making wedding cakes and cakes that cost hundreds of dollars I’m sorry I expect the balloons to look better than someone decorating at Walmart thought this was a special bakery with expertise.

I’ve been coming here for years to get cakes for my friends and family. Last weekend, I came in to order my own cake and Laurie was so lovely to work with over the phone. Super quick and easy, brought my ideas to life. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an affordable, great tasting cake.

Google
They made us a beautiful and delicious carrot cake! The experience of ordering was super easy and I appreciate that they decorated it so nicely. Everyone enjoyed!

Google
I visited here for the first timon a certain day in December 2025. I bought two mini eclair and two strawberry tart.

Jeff D.

Google
They did a full sheet cake for a one year old birthday party. 80 people. Cake was two layers and fresh and delicious. It was huge. More than enough for the whole party, and it was a huge hit! People were wowed by the size and decorating job. Jarosch team took plenty of time helping us plan, and they even did a custom design for our “groovy” theme, along with a small “smash” cake. Overall, a great job. I thank them, and highly recommend Jarosch’s for custom cakes and all bakery needs!

Google
We ordered our wedding cake from Jarosch Bakery, and it was perfect! Not only did it look gorgeous, but it tasted amazing too. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process, making everything smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

Yelp
You cannot go wrong with Jarosch Bakery! Sure, it's a little challenging right now to get in and out of the parking lot, due to construction. However, you can enter and exit from Arlington Heights Road. Be a hero at work and bring a box of their donuts and pastries in. They are fresh, sweet, and very rich. Most people split in half because they are generous portions. The service here is fast and be sure to grab a number when it's crowded. They have great cakes here too.

Yelp
Jarosch is a local Elk Grove bakery that has great donuts. Fresh, tasty, good variety. Staff is nice. Prices are reasonable.

Mary W.

Yelp
I ordered a Yule Log for a Christmas gathering. Could not get it decorated the way I wanted because it would confuse the person decorating it!?! When slicing it the cake was so dry it just kept crumbling apart and I used three different knives to try and get a clean slice, the cake cost $50!!!!!! NEVER AGAIN. Very disappointed in Jarosch!

Michelle W.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly staff, expensive but worth it, highly addictive, and always PACKED! Order ahead to save the wait.

Francesca M.

Yelp
Quality, Quality, Quality! The best Bakery and service around. Cream Puffs and Eclairs make you think you're in Paris. The women are wonderful and make one feel welcomed and appreciated.
google avatar

Yelp
Jarosch Bakery made our son and daughter-in-law's first child's baby shower's custom cake with the most wonderful decorations. The cake was so light, fluffy, and moist...and the fresh strawberry filling was incredible! All so delicious. And the frosting and decorations to match the party's original printed invitation ... so beautiful...with the farm animals on the border and a pale light green frosting color...were so amazing. Thank you Jarosch Bakery and Salma for all you did to make it SO delicious and wonderful. And thanks too for delivering it to the Westwood Tavern in Schaumburg, IL. Made the party and all there so happy. Here's hoping the cake decorator and sales gal Salma know, they are appreciated! Big thanks!

Yelp
My family has been coming to Jarosh for years! It's a great family owned bakery. Over time the price has drastically increased but it's still the best bakery in the area. The coffee cakes are great and they have a fantastic old fashioned cheesecake! You really can't go wrong with this place!

Marilyn T.

Yelp
Picked up a large sheet cake yesterday for a retirement party at my work. It was so dry it could start a fire! There were over 100 guests and many of them who are familiar with Jarosch was so surprised when they found out where it was from. It was awful! I can't believe that you would do this knowingly, that's the sad part. We will no longer patron your store for such an event. Company is Captive Resources. Marilyn Thomas ordered the cake. 5 THUMBS DOWN!!!

Yelp
Jarosch Bakery never disappoints! Fresh, tasty pastries and breads every time. The staff is friendly, and the cozy vibe makes every visit a treat. A must-visit!
google avatar

Maddie L.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and beautiful. Couldn't be more happy with the results. We went with the Oreo filling and it was great.
google avatar

Sue B.

Yelp
I've always loved Jarosch butter cookies. I have to drive 30 minutes just to get them, but they were worth it. My family loves their cookies. They must have changed the recipe because the last few months the cookies are so dry. It's a real disappointment!

Dave P.

Yelp
Like an old fashion bakery. Service is as good SS the baked goods. Have not had a bad experience there.
google avatar

Larry K.

Yelp
Stumbled on this bakery and was instantly intrigued. I love a good, mom and pop bakery. The cheese danish is absolutely phenomenal. We've gone back a few times for it and we're about 45 minutes away
google avatar

Ho T.

Yelp
It is a charming little bakery. I stumbled onto this place by accident, and the staff was welcoming and the pastry selection was lovely.

Redblend L.

Yelp
The cake was designed beautifully, but there was barely cake in between the layers. The icing was oily it was hard to get off of my hands. It stained my ring. C/S was good.

Susan ..

Yelp
Absolute heaven! I live out of state now but when I am in town, I pick up a large order. They shrink wrap them for me. I take them home and freeze them. The staff are efficient and helpful with my orders, always correct and ready to go. This last time we were a bit hungry when we went in, bad idea, we picked up their chocolate donut holes and a couple of smaller pastries. They did not disappoint; everything is so delicious. I wish we had bakeries like this, makes me miss home.
google avatar

Yelp
What a difference with a new partner. The Bavarian cream doughnuts were the best they used to be so stuffed with filling. Very sad to say they are nothing but average below average. Not even close when Jarosch didn't have a partner they were loaded I definitely am done buying these. I had a bad feeling a merger would do this cheap with the products now. No wonder it wasn't as crowded as it used to be people noticed cutbacks sad to say!
google avatar

Brett S.

Yelp
Quite simply, bakeries are a dying breed and this place still has the charm and quality that a bakery should. If you miss being a kid and going into a bakery for your smiley face cookie or seasonal cookie, this place will provide that piece of surgery nostalgia goodness to transport you back to that time of your life. My wedding cake was from Jarosch as well as my daughters 1st birthday cake and smash cake. The price was competitive but the quality was far superior than that of big box commercial bakeries. I highly recommend checking this place out. Expect decent wait times most days because they are almost always busy. And if you go later in the day, a lot of their good stuff is usually gone. So get there early.

Yelp
Truly one of the best old school bakeries in the northwest Chicago suburbs. Jarosch Bakery has been open in the same location since 1959. My parents went there, and when I am in the area, I go there! I want to give a shout out to their dizzying array of coffee cakes and donuts...always fresh, always delicious, some with fruit, some with chocolate, nuts, or streusel. So many to choose from! They have wonderful bread. My personal favorite is a cinnamon bread rolled in cinnamon sugar. It's addictively delicious! Choose from a large case of awesome butter cookies that temptingly greet you at the entrance. Or buy some brownies, fruit slices from large trays. The cakes and tortes are amazing, too. If you're craving a sweet treat, a breakfast delight, or need a cake or torte for a special occasion, look no further than Jarosch Bakery in Elk Grove Village. Yum!!

Yelp
NOT GOOD ANYMORE - EVERTHING IS DRY DRY DRY DRY DRY DRY Like many people in the area I've been going here a couple times a year for decades. Not anymore Everything they make is DRY - DRY - DRY - DRY - DRY - DRY........... and naturally prices are very high service is good and selections is good but everything is DRY-DRY-DRY-DRY

Jim T.

Yelp
Oh baby, I love a great bakery and this is a great bakery. I stopped in the see what they had and there isn't much they don't have. I picked up a few danishes and they are outstanding. The many different kinds of bread looked amazing, along with the incredible amount of other things. I was there about 3:00 in the afternoon and there was a constant line of people getting various baked goods. The ladies working were quick getting everyone taken care of and still answered questions pleasantly. Everything was displayed very well and easy to get a good look at.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Phenomenal cake! I felt I was taken care of right and my needs heard right from the start. I asked for a custom marble cake with a cream frosting. When I asked them not to make it too sweet, they recommended the whipped cream frosting on the exterior. Let's just say that the cake was a hit at the party. The cake received compliments all around. The cake was perfectly sweetened. The birthday girl finished her slice after her big meal which was a win in my book. Thank you for making my friend's birthday that much more special. And you can't beat a $51.13 price tag on a custom cake (12-15 people).

Yelp
We stopped at Tensuke once a month and finally got to stop by the bakery for some sweets. It's located just a few stores away from Tensuke Japanese market. There is nothing glamorous but more of a nostalgic feel. They got donuts, danish, cakes, and bread (quite a lot of selection). It will be helpful to label what they are, like lemon jellied, etc. We were surprised to see a 'number' machine by the entrance, meaning they might get very busy? There were two other people when we entered on a Monday afternoon around 4 pm. We ended up getting a chocolate cake donut and a cinnamon donut for $4.40. My husband said they tasted ok. Wish they had smaller danish, like what shown on my picture instead of a family size one.
google avatar

Kat Q.

Yelp
Jarosch is a wonderful bakery. Plenty of parking. They have a ticket number machine for when it gets busy. I purchased an apple cinnamon coffee cake and fresh made cinnamon bread sliced. One of the best breads I've ever eaten. It was crowded just before Easter but the line moved fairly well and the owner gave out free coffee and donuts to the waiting customers. I also purchased a chocolate raspberry layered cake for my son in January. He loved it. Best bakery in the area.
google avatar

Felicia C.

Yelp
I love the cakes from Jarosh's. My family has been getting cakes here since I was a baby. This most recent cake, I had them color all green and then I added the other decorations.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Went three times. Very friendly staff. Got two birthday cakes and a cheesecake loaf. My family and friends loved the birthday cake. It was described by my guests as not being too sweet. As a sweet lover I didn't think the cake was too sweet nor was it not sweet enough. But I did think it was good. I also got a cheesecake loaf. Very different. It was good but not as heavy as a normal cheesecake. They sell these by the pound which was different to me. All that said, I would recommend going. I will definitely be back
google avatar

Savanna B.

Yelp
I was impressed with the strawberry shortcake birthday cake we got for my MIL's birthday party. The cake was very tasty and I really liked the whipped cream. They were able to accommodate the special instructions on decorations and they kindly held the cake for us a few hours later than expected as we didn't have room for it in our hotel fridge. They don't answer their phone before 12:00 because they're so busy in the mornings, and they really are busy as we ended up driving over and taking a number to ask our question. The bakery is clean and gas very pretty cakes displayed in the windows.
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
Beautiful cake, fantastic customer service and communication, and cake was delicious!

Marcia H.

Yelp
Always great service and delicious bakery goods made to order to perfection! Have been coming here for years and remains the same quality and service
google avatar

GE N.

Yelp
I got several thing from here on my first visit. All the choices are a bit overwhelming and it was very crowded; they did attempt to keep things orderly with a number system. I am glad to find a bakery that is more than just Bundt cakes or giant cookies! I loved the "new look" coffee cake. I will say- the garlic bread was average, I will skip that next time.
google avatar

Winston T.

Yelp
This bakery isn't all that. Items are too sweet and isn't fresh. So many other better bakeries in the surrounding suburbs. Tous Les Jours, Sweet Reserve Cafe Bakery, Dessert Cafe 365 are few of the better places. Check them out!
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
Excellent cakes and great selections even if you're not pre ordering. The staff is super friendly and helpful too. There were a variety to choose from, but I finally went with a chocolate chunky brownie whipped cream cake for my moms birthday. The brownie chunks were delicious, and the cake wasn't too rich or sweet either. Not a bad price at $30 also! The girl helping me also added roses and a happy birthday message!
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
They make the best cakes. I have been going there for years. The only drawback is they are not open on Sundays.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Excellent Service even the place gets crowded. Every item is made with quality and the good old-fashioned way. Lots of goodies as well as all types of Bread and Rolls. The store is laid out so you can see all the available merchandise. Very appealing.
google avatar

Mala G.

Yelp
Best bakery ever. Very fresh and delicious. Been coming here for years and I just love it

John L.

Yelp
Best bakery ever! Been coming here for over 50 years. The best coffee cakes anywhere! And the staff is incredible! Love Jarosch Bakery

Rich J.

Yelp
Jarosch is a go to for must have bakery goodness! At a time when bakeries have seemed to go to the wayside it's great to see that Jarosch has stood the test of time. It's because everything they bake is delicious. I drive from Gilbert's to EGV because no one has the quality and staff they have.

Darrell Y.

Yelp
Used to be one of my favorite bakeries. Not any more. The last two Pecan Heart danish I bought were very dry, like they were days old. I won't be going back. Sadly, all the bakeries I liked in my area are gone now.

Laurie B.

Yelp
Best bakery in the area hands down. Bakery items are always fresh and the line goes pretty quick. I've ordered cakes for birthdays, graduations, and showers throughout the years that are always perfectly decorated and delicious. No reason to go anywhere else. Enjoy!!
google avatar

MA B.

Yelp
I hope this place never closes. Everything is delicious, fresh, and pricing is fair. I ordered my mom a Birthday cake and it was delicious! I also picked up a loaf of cinnamon bread and it was ammmazing!! It gets busy on Saturdays, so get there by 6:30-8:30 am.

Kim P.

Yelp
They never answer the phone anymore. You have to call during certain times only and then they leave you in a que and you wait and wait. There is not same time daily that they take calls either
google avatar

Trina K.

Yelp
The sweet smelling aroma of fresh baked goods is apparent even through a properly worn mask and to my surprise, many people were in line at 2p in the afternoon picking up sweets too. Admittedly, it'd been a while since I've ordered a cake from here but I remembered how special the crushed pineapple filling was and decided to add fresh strawberries after reading a few recommendations on their website. The combination was absolutely delicious with buttercream icing though if I were to order those fillings again I'd love to try it with cream cheese icing instead. Speaking of cream cheese, I almost made it out of the store with just a birthday cake and a set of adorable metallic candles that matched the cake decorations perfectly, but I was compelled to the add two strawberry cheesecakes was the best strawberry cheesecake I've ever had!

Jan L.

Yelp
We were very excited to try the Paczki based on reviews. We found the cheese filling to be very "off tasting" (almost fermented tasting) and unfortunately, we ended up not eating them, none of the five people in our household liked them. The jelly ones were OK and we did enjoy the custard with chocolate icing. Overall, was expecting a better experience for the price.

Amy S.

Yelp
Jarosch Bakery has been our go to bakery for over 30 years. Unfortunately the last few times we've been in, the items we purchased weren't fresh or as flavorful as in the past. We are hoping the new partnership / owners aren't the reason for the change.
google avatar

Vivek B.

Yelp
I am a big supporter of local businesses. I was passing by this strip and saw this bakery and definitely i had to try it. They have very good fresh baked breads... donuts were very yummy. I loved their Marble Pound cake. I got tons of stuff from them. Their cakes seemed very amazing. I am definitely gonna order for any next occasion - especially the 3 tier cake
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
By far the best butter cookies in the entire Chicago area!!! I stop by every time I have to pick up or drop off folks going to ORD!!
google avatar

Chrissy W.

Yelp
We have been going to this wonderful bakery for years. I remember my mom would always purchase our birthday cakes from here. Years later the bakery items are just as good! Their butter cookies are pricey but worth every penny. Their birthday cakes are as delicious as I remember them being. I was in need of getting a banana flavored cake and in a hurry. I remembered they carry a variety of specialty cakes here. I picked up a banana split torte for work for a Birthday celebration and there was nothing left of it. Everybody raved about how fantastic it was!
google avatar

Sherri H.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS BAKERY!!! I have never tasted anything from here that is less than 5 stars! I ordered my wedding cake from Jarosch's 38 years ago and when I moved out of state to Texas, I knew this would be one of the things that I would miss. I always make a point to come here as often as I can when I am in town visiting family and friends and it is often my first stop after landing at the airport. Heck, I even plan my vacation trips around knowing when they will be closed for their annual vacation. Almost 3 years ago we took a vacation to Chicago in early June with my married son and his family. It was our first stop after landing at the airport. When I first step inside, I always have to take a deep breath to inhale the best aroma here on earth. Even my daughter-in-law who had never experienced the awesome deliciousness before exclaimed "this place is legit!!" Yes it is!! The coffee cakes, butter cookies, danishes, donuts, eclairs, etc. are to die for! I always clear out a space in my freezer before flying in on a trip, so that I can bring a few extra coffee cakes home and freeze them to enjoy later. It is truly a sad day when my stash is depleted. Even my son and his family put in a request for me to bring them home a coffee cake. I must really love them to share my precious stash. The ingredients are fresh and you can tell the difference. So far with this trip to town I have enjoyed the blueberry strip (and you can see real blueberries - not a purée) and an alligator coffee cake that has an almond paste filling and lots of streusel and nuts on top. The little eclairs are the perfect size with a delicious custard filling and chocolate icing. I highly encourage anyone looking for the best bakery in the Chicagoland area to run, not walk, to Jarosch's!!

Yelp
It's a visually appealing bakery. Went late on a Saturday morning, place was pretty packed but the number system moved smoothly. Honestly, it looks and feels like an old school bakery, which I love. There's a wide assortment of breads, cakes, donuts, coffee cakes, cookies, etc. We bought a Saturday special coffee cake, some donuts and cookies. The cookies were good, donuts were hit or miss and the coffee cake was dry. If this was my neighborhood bakery, it would be fine but I wouldn't make a special trip.
