Tonight my kids asked me what my favorite food is - the food that I would pick if I could eat that and nothing else, forever. I thought for a moment and said "Well, I know it's from Jasmine and it has to involve their crab rangoon."
Y'all, I lived in Florida 15 years ago and haven't been back to the Margate / Coconut Creek area for about as long and I still remember this place. The first time I had Thai food was Jasmine's crab rangoon at a party my late grandmother threw when I was a kid - I'm a grown adult with my own children now. I don't know if Jasmine catered it directly or if she just picked up a big tray of their rangoon on order, but I snuck out of my room past bedtime, grabbed a handful using my nightgown as a plate and ran back down the hallway. Life changing. At risk of getting in trouble, I still asked my grandmother the next morning what that was and where it came from because I wanted to have it again.
Since then, every life event that called for a celebratory dinner - graduating middle school, graduating high school, getting my driver's license, my birthday, my best friend's birthday, my grandmother's birthday, my first date, always involved a trip to Jasmine. This became my bestie's favorite place too; she texts me here in Maryland whenever she goes there with her teenagers and they now love it too. The shape of the crab rangoon has changed a bit - I remember it looking like a little drawstring bag - but she tells me the taste is the same.
After talking to my kids this evening and considering what special meal I would choose - my favorite - I realized this review is long overdue. Jasmine is a wonderful spot with very special food and I wanted to say thank you. I hope it becomes a favorite for many new generations; I look forward to bringing my kids there one day.
