Singapore Bib Gourmand 2024: Inspectors' Favourites

"Jason Penang Cuisine offers authentic Penang dishes, including their renowned Penang assam laksa. The soup base, made from fresh yellowtail fish, is tangy and mildly spicy, complemented by rice noodles and enhanced with shrimp paste and fresh mint." - The MICHELIN Guide

Has very good food, the pig intestine has a bit too much pepper, but the salted duck soup is really good, nice people and quick service my fav is prob the ayam buah kelak and kapitan curry chicken. I had ambla drink which is hard to find. Many unique dishes like cinchalok egg and pork. Very affordable place compared to the famous one down the street. We have been to many Nonya places here and this is top of our fav family restaurant now. Will def be back on our next trip.

Jason Nyonya House serves up Nyonya dishes that are… well, adequate. Compared to the standout Nyonya spots in Penang, the flavours here feel muted, just passable, nothing that makes you reach for your phone to snap a photo or recommend to friends. The service is friendly and efficient, which helps lift the experience slightly. The atmosphere is simple and unassuming, comfortable enough, but nothing memorable. It’s not bad food by any stretch, just fairly standard. If you’re craving authentic, punchy Nyonya flavours, you might want to look elsewhere. This place works for a quick, easy meal, but don’t come here expecting fireworks on the palate.

Service is nice , we arrived at 6:00PM, no waiting, pork belly soup is delicious, fried Petai with shrimp is very good, curry chicken is good and the Indonesia black bean taste special. Amble and plum juicy is sweet and sour. Very nice to drink and I love it.price is very reasonable. This is pop and mom family restaurant. Restaurant staff are all very nice and friendly. They will remind customers if customers order too many food.

Located at Lebuh Bishop, Jason Nyonya House is another Peranakan restaurant that serves good Nyonya food. I would recommend the Itik Tim (I really love it), Nyonya Acar Ikan (loved it) and Ayam Buak Keluak. Jiu Hu Char's texture is better but lacks the taste of Jiu Hu (cuttlefish). Otak-otak is alright, but more daun kaduk would be better. Overall we still enjoy all the food very much. Thanks for the complimentary Bubur Pulut Hitam. Subpar at best. Unfortunately, this meal was very underwhelming. We had high hopes because it claimed to be “Malaysia’s best”. Service was lacking we had to ask multiple times for plates and condiments, which never ended up arriving. It made the experience feel disorganised and inattentive. The food itself was disappointing. The pork vinegar trotters tasted like a generic sweet sauce with no vinegar tang at all, which was a letdown for a dish that should be bold and balanced. The vegetables and egg were fine, but nothing memorable. There was definitely no “wow” factor. The pie tee shells were not crispy and had a flat, bland taste, which really affected the overall dish. Overall, it didn’t live up to expectations, and I wouldn’t rush back.

My favourite nyonya restaurant in Penang! The food is good and the price is affordable. I have dined here a few times and every time I come, the standard is always there! We had a number of dishes - Chicken Kapitan, Jiu Hi Char (my favourite!), Pig trotter vinegar, duck and salted veg soup, lor bak, all were amazing. They even gave free dessert after 😊 Will be back!

Spoilt for choice with so many Nyonya restaurants around Georgetown, we decided to give this place a try. Arrived around 7pm — easy to find parking, a decent crowd, and no waiting needed. We ordered the Sambal Hebi Eggplant, Kapitan Curry Chicken, and Gulai Tumis Stingray. The flavours hit all the right notes, full of authentic Nyonya taste. Even my picky-eater friend gave full compliments to the dishes. Definitely planning to return to try more items from the menu. The complimentary dessert was also a lovely touch to end a satisfying meal.

I absolutely loved the food here. Kapitan ayam was definitely my favorite, Loh Bak was a wonderful discovery for me and the lady fingers with the sambal taste, spendid! Setting is traditional and quiet.
