Nestled near the Design District, Jass Kitchen is a charming Turkish gem where cozy vibes meet mouthwatering cuisine and live jazz, making it perfect for date nights.
"Jass is a Mediterranean restaurant about five blocks north of the Design District, slightly hidden on a residential street. And this place is almost too perfect a date night spot. It has real candles, brick walls, and live jazz almost every night. But even if you're not trying to woo a potential suitor, you should still come here. The Mediterranean food is good (and reasonably priced). Definitely order the clay pot of lamb, which comes encased in a dome of delicious brioche your server will slice open at the table. And know that the live music usually starts around 8:30, because that’s a big reason why you’re coming here too. " - ryan pfeffer
"Jass is more of a sit-down restaurant than a bar, but when we came here we also literally said out loud: “This is like if Lagniappe was a sit-down restaurant.” So it belongs on this guide. Jass is really charming, with live music (often jazz) playing at an ideal volume and a dining room that feels like a fun antique shop. Music happens nightly (but call them to ask about the current week's schedule). You can get a bottle of wine for around $60, but you should be eating too because the Mediterranean food is good. Get the clay pot of lamb, which comes encased in a dome of brioche your server will slice open at the table. " - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
"With real candles, brick walls, and jazz playing at the perfect volume—Jass in Buena Vista is almost too perfect a date night spot. But luckily, there’s nothing pretentious about this place that’d make your date think you’re trying too hard. Despite the white tablecloths, Jass isn’t uptight at all. Plus, the Mediterranean restaurant serves good food too. Definitely order the clay pot of lamb, which comes encased in a dome of delicious brioche that your server will slice open at the table. And know that the live music usually starts around 8:30, because that’s a big reason why you’re coming here too. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"Clay Lamb We ordered this three times during the year, and our giddiness when they sliced open the dome of brioche at the table never waned. We knew waiting underneath that thin ceiling of bread was a stew of tender lamb, vegetables, and a broth we could soak up with jasmine rice and chunks of sweet brioche. As prices for, well, literally everything ballooned this year, Jass was a safe haven for folks looking for a reasonably priced date night option. And splitting this with a loved one while live jazz plays in the background can even make the Grinch feel a little romantic. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"Jass is a charming Buena Vista restaurant with live music playing at an ideal volume, and a dining room that feels like a fun antique shop. Music is not just a rare occurrence here. It happens every night (except Monday) around 8pm and consists of a few jazz players tucked neatly into the corner of the dining room (but check their Instagram for the current week's jazz schedule). This is where you want to be if you're also trying to eat. The Mediterranean food is good (and reasonably priced).
