This is such a fun, quirky place! The menu is huge and the staff is so friendly. We came back two days in a row. The food was excellent, but coffee was even better. We didn't get to try any lunch items. But the breakfast burrito, hog omelette, pb and chocolate chip pancakes, hobo omelette and crunchy coconut French toast was to die for.

Google
This place is delightful! Charming atmosphere, great wait staff who are happy to provide recommendations, and the menu is large and filled with traditional breakfast/lunch items, as well as more unique things. We got the apple cinnamon pancakes and the hobo omelet, as well as the caramel nut latte, and it was all fabulous. Zero complaints.

Google
I'm so glad we had the chance to visit it..we just had coffees..I tried the Irish mint latte that was really yummy Staff were kind and friendly..I loved the teapots decor..I couldn't resist buying one, and I got a free magnet! I also loved the menu that was printed like a newspaper

Google

Google
100% recommend if you're visiting Mackinaw or the upper peninsula. The wait wasn't bad even during peak time and the food came out hot and delicious! This was the best meal we've had. Joe was walking around talking to everyone which was awesome. And Sandy knows how to run a restaurant and make everyone feel welcome and taken care of. We had such a great experience. I'm very glad we stopped by!

Google
We stopped here for breakfast and they were very busy!! The seating was limited due to the patio areas being closed because of the cold weather. Despite this, they were able to see us relatively quickly. The service was great. The food tasted fantastic! Overall an excellent experience. Would definitely come back!

Google
Tiny but mighty little joint. Stop in for that small town greasy spoon feel and stay for the killer atmosphere. Breakfast is fresh, hot, and REALLY GOOD. Get here a little on a Saturday because this place fills up FAST and for good reason too. If I could take this place with me everywhere I would 🩵

Google
Such a cute place and it’s small but the vibe is great. Food was delicious. Chai was on the weak side but that happens sometimes when you get it iced (which I do). Husband said coffee was great. Our server???? INCREDIBLE. I wish I could remember her name, spunky with a shorter haircut. Called my daughter “Hollywood” which my daughter adored.

Yelp
Well, this is one of the few breakfast spots in St. Ignace, so we haven't had much choice. The coffee was very good and I'm happy they have dairy free milk. The breakfast on the other hand was very average, the vegan frittata comes now without vegan egg, so not sure what kind of frittata this is... you still have to pay the same price, so I asked if they can put some veggies as a replacement for the missing egg, and of course they did, but I learned from the bill that we charged extra... that is so unfair. It tasted ok, would definitely be better with the "egg". Husband got the traditional breakfast and it was ok too. The place itself is super cute and the staff was very friendly despite being very busy.

Yelp
Wow - loved it! It's been at least 10 years since I've been to Java Joes. I had fond memories of that first time here. This time, my wife was with me. We shared the following: - Hobo Omelet with Hasbrowns and Sourdough Toast - Coconut French Toast We ordered the omelet as shared, which means it's split into 2 plates, each with hashbrowns and toast. It was so tasty. We packed half to take home. We asked that the French Toast be brought out later. Worked out perfectly. Amazing presentation and taste. Lunged the crunch of the griddle coconut and the flavor of the batter and the syrup. So good! As for service - 5 stars as well. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Much appreciated. Thanks Java Joes!

Yelp
Classic divey diner serving breakfast and lunch five days a week (closed Tuesday) Fun newspaper style menu packed with all your breakfast dreams. Eclectic decor on the inside and a fun mural outside Outdoor seating on the patio, too! Good size portions Super friendly staff and fast service! Located on the mainstreet just outside of 'town' What more do you need? My rating rationale +1 Service +1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value This was for a visit in September, I'm slowly catching up on vacation spots

Yelp
This has been a family favorite for years. Joe and Sandy created an amazing legacy, and have handed it to their lineage. I had the Denver Omelette from their amazing eclectic menu, which captures practically anyone's taste. My wife had the Greek Omelette, and my Mother-In-Law had the Vegetarian Frittata. No one walked away hungry, all the food was fresh, the service was amazing as they worked as a team to make it a great experience. If you are in St. Ignace, this is a must stop, they have amazing coffee, breakfast and desert. The music allows for conversation, and the patio and indoor dining provide an environment to have great conversations about your Northern Experience with Family and Friends alike. This spot has never disappointed and the food and service has not missed a beat. The legend is in good hands.

Yelp
Oh Java Joe! What a character (the man behind the cafe). Stopped here on a recent trip to the area and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The inside is colorful and comfortable. It has an eclectic feel where you could visit several times and notice something new and different each time. On our visit were were admiring their expansive, fun, and funky teapot collection. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a mocha. Both were wonderful. The mocha was decadent with whipped cream on top and was more dessert-like than I typically enjoy but matched so well with the entire vibe of the place that I didn't mind a bit. The breakfast sandwich was cheesy and wonderful. The service is outstanding. While we were there the owners were both in house and Joe walked around and chatted with all the customers. He's lovely as is his wife. Truly such a gem they have here! Get to it!

Tim R.

Yelp
Loved Java Joe's Cafe! The staff were personable, the service was timely and the atmosphere is so hip and fun! The family loved the eggs, pancakes, French Toast, omelettes and I especially loved the coffee. Highly recommend!

Bella B.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast. There was short wait. Very fairly priced with an extensive menu. The menu even gave suggestions of things to do and places to explore, which was so nice! We both loved our food and service was good and quick. I also got the Vanilla amaretto latte which was sooo good. It is a small restaurant, so it was a bit cramped but totally worth it in our eyes. We got a cool shirt that was only 13$ and everything was very fairly priced. even got a complimentary magnet! Definitely recommend.

Erika S.

Yelp
Delicious omelette's and Java! Great service and smiling faces. We will return to this place for breakfast for sure!

Jen S.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and it's always been good. The original owner's son and wife took over this year. They made some upgrades inside and kept most of the menu the same. This is my go to and it did not disappoint!!! So good! Our server was the best- so funny and friendly. Make the time. It's small, local and fills up fast!

Sandra U.

Yelp
Best breakfast hands down!!! Service is always amazing and the food is just as good. Highly recommended!! We always stop on our way home to the UP.

Stacey V.

Yelp
Simple unpretentious and quirky. Java joes is all of this! Oh I also forgo tasty. This little gem is located near the ferry to Mackinac island and serves up a tasty breakfast hitting all the spots. We arrived around 9 on a Saturday so the little restaurant was popping. Don't be afraid though they have fast service and move folks through quickly. The only build I can offer up to make things even better is to simplify the menu. Too many choices not only make it arduous for guests but slows down the kitchen. We waited about 30-40 min for 3 corned beef hash orders... however it was worth it! Delicious! Stop by

Summer D.

Yelp
Ordered a coffee with an extra shot and paid for it. Not on the sheet so argued with me and would not make it right. Will Ever go here again!!! So rude!!! Also the coffee tasted like burnt coffee could not drink. 14oz for $8 in the trash

Bev M.

Yelp
We asked someone where we could get breakfast in St Ignace because we couldn't find one as we were walking around. Java Joe's was the recommendation and it was perfect. Busy but we were seated quickly and the food was delicious. We'll go back!

Chris B.

Yelp
Friendly, clean and a delicious breakfast! "Java Joe" is a treat as he makes his way around the restaurant.

Angela S.

Yelp
The building itself is super cute on the outside and inside it's full of pictures and collectibles. There is very limited seating for the entire restaurant and little room for people to maneuver around while not sitting. We went on a summer Sunday morning around 11 AM and it was very busy but we were seated within 5 minutes. The host and server were so nice. I don't have any complaints there. While my party of 4 was walking to be seated, what I presumed to be the owners wife made a comment about how she used to have a prize to bribe kids of getting off their phone and talking to their parents but they ran out. While I do look incredibly young for being a full grown 4'7 adult, what was meant to be a personal and fun comment felt inappropriate and I didn't appreciate it as she was stabbing at my appearance as someone who is the face of the business. The wait to order our drinks and food along with actually receiving them took awhile on a busy day which was OK, but while waiting for our orders I was people watching when I overheard and watched the wife point to her head and say to a server, "sometimes you need to use your brain." Forget the comment she said to me, but as a manager, I would never say something like that to an employee of mine, and especially not in front of a restaurant full of people. As a leader you are to give feedback privately, otherwise it's degrading and it's humiliating. Other than that, the owner Joe visited each table and conversed with them in between making drinks.

Tami B.

Yelp
Stopped on a recent trip through and it's such a cute little place! The menus are like newspapers and there are SO MANY choices! The server was friendly and helpful, great coffee and delicious breakfast. We took advantage of being able to split the omelets. "Java Joe" is a character for sure. A great little spot if you are in St. Ignace!

Mary N.

Yelp
We had an absolutely fabulous breakfast at Java Joe's! Loved everything we had and will go back next time we're in town!

Kristel S.

Yelp
I'm a fudgie but this was such a cute little breakfast place! It's like a little home transformed to a dining area, it was so homey! Their food was made to order and fresh AND affordable for St. Ignace. I ordered their corned beef hash omelette and I can't even begin to describe how good it was. My husband ordered the hungry man and finished it in under 10 minutes lol the service was also great, their servers were super nice and really took care of us. My husband and I will definitely coming back whenever we're at St Ignace again!

George S.

Yelp
We loved the Java Joe's. The food was absolutely fabulous, but the atmosphere made the visit the best...plus our waitress was kind, funny, and awesone!

Leslie M.

Yelp
Good food and service. Small spot with a lot of character. Ordered breakfast and omelette was fabulous. Not crazy about the hash browns -should have tried the biscuits and gravy.

Aniket J.

Yelp
Awesome food, lovely service and great location. We stumbled upon this place to grab a quick bite and fell in love. Service: Joe and Sandy are fun, warm and welcoming. They do have a small kitchen - so make sure to budget enough time when you visit the place. Food: We ordered a bunch of omelets which were tasty and had sumptuous portions. The menu has something for everyone. Highly recommend for a hearty breakfast/brunch before you head to the Mackinac Island. Ambience: the place has a very nice, cozy ambience. The outdoor dining area is great for lete groups Overall - awesome experience. Great food.

Lynette R.

Yelp
What an awesome place! Very bright and colorful keeps the place feeling not too small. The menu is very plentiful and full of choices. You wouldn't be able to make a dent in their menu if you dined there for a week. There is something for everyone.

Theresa N.

Yelp
I was appalled by the attitude of the owner of this cafe. I asked if dogs were permitted on the patio and was told that they were not. This was fine if this was the policy. However, another customer asked to be seated with her dog and they accommodated her. I asked to speak to the manager and the owner reluctantly came out to speak with me. He was somewhat hostile v from the start and seemed annoyed that I had an issue to discuss. He stated, "listen lady, this is the world today so get used to it". If you look at the negative reviews of this place you will notice a pattern of disrespect from the owner and other employees to customers who have an issue with anything. So if something is not to your liking this is the type of treatment that you can expect. The world is what we make it. We all deserve better! The food was also mediocre.

Faith G.

Yelp
Good strong coffee, a varied menu, friendly staff. We went on a drizzly morning so missed sitting outside. Really fun and quirky decor. It's a cheerful place to have breakfast.

Adelynne H.

Yelp
Horrible. They don't keep track of who's next in line for their drinks. They need to call the name for the drinks. I waited 15 minutes for my drink to be stolen off the counter and had to wait another 10 minutes. DO NOT COME HERE, the service is atrocious!

Mary T.

Yelp
Great food, amazing service and so friendly . We were visiting from Ohio and we stopped in here for breakfast. Best place ever

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Cool place. Joe is a cool guy. Would highly recommend going into the establishment to look around. Food is very good too. Great way to start your morning before heading to Mackinac Island.

Lucy G.

Yelp
This place! Man where do I start...let's start with the hostess, I was actually afraid of her! No joke, super rude and not friendly and inviting at all! I can't stress enough how many times she kept saying to EVERYONE that walked in that everyone from the party must be present when she calls your name, because they do NOT hold tables here. So she calls my name, I was there without my husband who was literally walking back from parking the car, she goes to me "he better be, we don't hold up tables here, we need to be rotating them quick"! Umm ok. Our server was super nice and this review really has nothing to do with our server, food was meh, nothing to write home about, I had to add salt, pepper and hot sauce to my skillet, it was flavorless. Anyway, back to the show we got while we were waiting for our mediocre food. As we're chilling at the table the owner comes out to the table next to us and goes "were you guys here yesterday morning too? To which the guy: yeah, the owner: well you didn't leave us a tip and that was rude, and I wanted to let you know that kind of disrespect isn't tolerated here! Guy: umm we did leave a tip, cash on the table. Owner:no you didn't. OMG is this real life?!? He was beyond rude causing this scene in front of everyone seating in this tiny space, so of course he made the guy super uncomfortable and embarrassed him, note to the owner "WTH man, you're supposed to make your customers feel welcomed not jumping their throat for a $8 tip!" Not sure if the older lady at the hostess stand is the owner wife but I'm actually baffled on how they were able to keep this place opened for so long with their attitudes and the way they talk to their customers. Also (we were seated right by the door so we can hear the hostess talk to incoming customers) telling your customers to look over the menu while they wait for their table so they can order quicker so you guys can rotate your tables quicker isn't nice either! I felt like we were super rushed the entire time, they seemed to be so money hungry. Another good one was, someone walked in and asked what the wait is, and she goes to them, 20-45 minutes, but really I don't know, everyone's taking their time this morning umm ma'am I can hear you loud and clear, at least try to be more professional and nice. I know there aren't many options in this area for breakfast but this place is a absolute NO for us in the future, i rather have a granola bar and save the $65 I dropped here for a mediocre breakfast, a coffee I couldn't finish and a rude show we got!

T B.

Yelp
This is a great little place in St. Ignace! The food is great and they have such an eclectic menu! The owners are very gracious and a hoot to be around. They even gave us free coffee while waiting for our table and free hot chocolate to the kids! Where else do you hear about that happening? Please give your support to this great local business!

Jackie S.

Yelp
I went in for takeout coffee and was greeted by two very polite and friendly servers. They were very attentive and guided me through the different choices. That's when things took a turn. What I believed to be one of the owners (wife) doing book work at one of the tables came to the cash register and started chastising the servers like little children. As appalling as that was, I started to leave with my order when the other owner came up to me and told me I needed a menu. No thank you, but he plopped one on my coffees and started berating the server who was so kind and attentive to me. Maybe the owners think everyone has to take a menu with them and him not seeing a menu in my hands took it out on the server who helped me by showing me the drink choices from a menu. This review isn't even about the food or drink. It's about the servers who were so respectful in providing help. How about the owners take lessons on what it means to be kind people and not treat their servers like second class citizens?

Todd D.

Yelp
Very rude staff and unhelpful. They have open outdoor seating but refused to allow our emotional support dog in outside seating. Sad in this day that they do not support customers needs when it costs them nothing. Find another place to eat there's lots of them.

Matthew M.

Yelp
I came here because this place had good reviews about it being nice and cozy. The whole style of this place threw me off, and it was extremely unique - not in a way that I liked. There was this guy walking around talking about how the floor of the building was linked to Hindu legends. On top of that, the food was tossed together, the service was fine, and there were no cleanliness issues. First, the food. The food was extremely tossed together, and the food did not seem of the highest quality. The bacon with my breakfast special was transparent and see-through in the middle. Additionally, the scrambled eggs were a bit runny, and they were not restaurant quality. My Rating for this Category: 3/5 Next, service. There were no major issues here. Our waitress was friendly but extremely quiet. She just took our orders and left. The food that I ordered came out at a good speed, and we were in and out of the restaurant with four people in less than fifty minutes. My Rating for this Category: 4/5 Finally, the cleanliness. There were no issues with the cleanliness. Nothing on the table - silverware, dishes, and glasses - was sticky. The table is covered in a paper-made cover. Also, there were no bugs in my food - I have had this happen before at other restaurants! My Rating for this Category: 5/5 For me, nothing came together to make this place pop. Everything was extremely generic, and nothing was special. The food was average at best, the service was fine, and thankfully there were no cleanliness issues to be reported. After coming here, I cannot say that I will be back, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling in the area.

Karen W.

Yelp
Super cool breakfast spot with eclectic flair and a funky vibe. Joe the owner is really nice and a local expert if you need some recommendations for area attractions. The menu is printed on a newspaper and is quite extensive, they have a ton of omelette and pancake options. I had the unique and intriguing lobster omelette, which also had shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. My fiance had the biscuits and gravy with eggs and said they were great. The only downside here is that the service is very slow. We waited about 45 minutes after ordering to get our food. We walked from our hotel but beware of the parking lot, it is a bit of a trap!

Bree G.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place and was not disappointed!! It had a groovy and home-like atmosphere, and all the staff is super friendly. I ordered the grilled motsy and a side of the granola joe banana pancakes, my best friend ordered the caramel banana French toast, everything was great and they had a lot of options to choose from. This is the type of place I would come back to time and time again for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Greyson H.

Yelp
I LOVE JAVA JOES. Best place in town. They've been serving for over 25 years I think.. and the food there is delicious. The menu was probably the largest menu I've ever seen.. there are so many options from the staff. The staff was so nice and the vibe was awesome. Java Joe himself, talked to each table and introduced himself. Who I believe was his wife, we talked to and was awesome. She kept checking on us. My grandma loved some of their decorations so she sold the decor on the wall to her on the spot!! Wow! We also got some good hoodies and shirts with Java Joe written on it. 100% recommend. The environment is also epic. This was not just a cafe, but it was an experience.

Taz Mama S.

Yelp
Cute retro design which comes with small indoor seating area with options in the front. The coffee was great and service was friendly. There is a very large menu of items to choose from. I had a veggie skillet and Husband opted for White Fish omelet as I've had fish for every meal in the area, so he wanted to try a local favorite. If I had a large party, I'd order to go or opt to eat on patio if weather permitted. They are hopping busy, only had black coffee this day but it was really good.

Melanie T.

Yelp
Java Joe's must be THE go-to place. It was hopping when we arrived around 10:30am on a Sunday and had about an hour wait. We might have gotten in sooner but there was a group of 13 ahead of us. The waiting area is outside, there is absolutely no where inside to wait so if it were raining, you'd be out of luck. If you happen to be eating on the outside patio, it can be a little awkward as it kinda feels like people are staring at you. I know I was eye balling everyone's food, when I was waiting. The food...this is why it got almost 5 stars. They have a pretty extensive menu...oh my goodness, they have pancakes galore. We tried four different kinds at our table - Hawaiian delight, Oreo, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, and Banana. They were all VERY tasty. I'd say you probably can't go wrong with their pancakes. The drinks...we had an iced chai and a caramel cappuccino. The iced chai was very milky and didn't have a strong chai flavor, it ranked pretty low for me. The cappuccino was luke warm and also not something we'd go out of our way to get again. The service...our waitress was great. Very nice and attentive even though you could tell she was extremely busy. On the flip side, the hostess was ALL business and came off a little rude to some guests. There was a bit of an altercation regarding a guest that didn't have a mask and the hostess practically yelled at her. Granted the guest was rude too, but I was a little surprised at how how she acted toward the customer. All in all, the food was good so I'd come back if I was in the area.

Anna T.

Yelp
Waited 45 min prior to seating. Once seated we ordered immediately and waited another 30 min for food to arrive. The service was slow and it seems like they were understaffed. The service staffed seemed overwhelmed and confused at times. The food was decent but not the best. For the biscuits and gravy I was impressed that they gave 4 biscuits. However the egg seemed less than other places.

Tiffany V.

Yelp
Java Joe's is a very cool restaurant with amazing service, great atmosphere and good food. This is a very small establishment and you'll likely have to wait to be seated. If you choose to wait, you won't be disappointed. Something fun about this place is that there are so many different coffee cups on the shelves in this restaurant and everyone gets coffee in a different cup (I don't think there are any 2 alike). Joe and his wife, Sandy, are both gems. They will come chat with you during your time here to see how your food is, if you need a refill and if you need anything else. Donna, a waitress, as worked there since I can remember and she's wonderful as well! They also hire seasonal staff from around the world which is a fun experience. Just in case you need a small souvenir, candy, cup, coffee or magnet you'll also be able to get that before or after your meal from their cute gift shop. For breakfast you can get anything from omelettes, biscuits and gravy, French toast, breakfast sandwiches and even crepes. I love that their menu is a "newspaper". Go support Joe and Sandy and have a great experience!

Shanille C.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE. The female owner is extremely rude to staff and customers. It was very uncomfortable to even wait for our coffee to grab and go. She has 2 student workers who were from Taiwan and she was yelling in their faces and ponding on the counter as she thought that would make them understand what she was saying?!? I couldn't believe what I was watching. Take your business elsewhere.

CliffandDiane G.

Yelp
Supposedly open until 1:30 but would not take a food order when I arrived shortly before 1. Rude. Have been here before and the food was good but don't think I'll try again in future

Tim D.

Yelp
Little cafe with huge menu. Very popular so there's almost always a wait. But, for a good breakfast, it's worth it.

Antenna M.

Yelp
Outstanding breakfasts, reasonable pricing, and top quality ingredients. The owner is often present and is very friendly and quite the 70s hippie guy. He owns several restaurants in town and knows how to treat people. Be sure to take your time with the menu; there are some great and very unusual omelette choices. Enjoy!

Jim F.

Yelp
What a great fun place. We had breakfast, and it was excellent! Owners are present and very engaging with the patrons. It's a must stop if you're in St. Ignace!

Joseph C.

Yelp
I won't be able to write the food or the coffee for you because they wouldn't serve me because it was 9:30 AM and they don't allow anything to go "because they're too busy". They would see this in service but they would not let us order anything to go. I think that's ridiculous so they didn't get my business.

Erik S.

Yelp
Great food, very welcoming and great service. We ran into Java Joe himself even though we didn't know it until after! Will definitely go back.

Lauren R.

Yelp
Extremely average. The frittata is a scramble and everything in it (hasbrowns, broccoli, onion and green pepper) is undercooked and made separately. They made the eggs, dump it in, made the veggies dump it in, fump premade hashbrowns in, dump cheese on top and heat. Pretty pathetic. The bacon is paper thin and limp. The only reason it's getting two stars is the coffee is pretty good. Underwhelming. They need to bump up the quality of the food here and understand when they put something on the menu they need to back it up. I would rather stick to the continental breakfast at the hotel next time.

Joshua W.

Yelp
This place was an overall great experience, if I could give it a 6 stare review I would. Better yet I think I will, because you, Java Joe deserve it! 6 stare review coming up! The most import thing I want to say is that the food was top notch, good quality food and great presentation! Tastes even better. If you don't have time to read the rest of the review then all you need to know is don't cut yourself short but not eating here. Don't read another review you have found your place to eat! From the outside this breakfast joint looks like a hippy shack painted a bunch of colors with no parking place. This is the moment where you need to realize this place is worth walking a mile. Go in, don't turn around. I definitely think they need a bigger building, however we where seated in under 5 min. And the place was packed. The older lady who is the grease to the wheel was 1/4 of my experience at this place. She was funny, direct and did not mess around with her restaurant standards. Thanks unnamed old lady for all you do! The menus was huge and had unique options. I went with 4 grown men and we each ordered two entrees. Get the hot cocoa, then get another, and another because it is free refills! Yum! We had the coconut French toast, biscuits and gravy, banana nut French toast, light morning breakfast, raspberry crepes, Hawaiian omelette, hobo omelet, blue berry pancakes. Everything was amazing! Our waitress Nam was great and friendly. The cook Jackie deserves an award, mind blown, how can such good food and variety of food, and quality be made so fast in that small of a space. It was like magic! I really do wish this place had a new building with a few more seats, but stayed small to keep the experience. I am from Minnesota but will definitely go out of my way to fit this place into my travel plans. Thanks Java Joe's for exceeding all of my expectations!!

Dennis T.

Yelp
What has happened to Java joes???? I've been going here a couple of times a year for over 20 years, and for the first time, it was horrible. Is there a new owner? Did everyone quit? I didn't see any of the same faces that have been there forever, my waitress mumbled, my companion told her three times "Mexican grilled cheese" and finally had to show her on the menu. I had an omelet (if I had to count, I'm sure I've ordered close to 20 omelets here in my life) it was dark brown on both sides. Like they cooked the omelet, pressed it down, flipped it, and pressed it down again. My hash browns were chewy... how do you even make chewy hash browns? Had they been sitting on the grill for a while and brought back up to temperature? This is not java joes I have come to love and have recommended to anyone I talk to crossing the bridge. Come back Joe?!
