Yelp
This review will not be groundbreaking. 888 has earned a well-deserved reputation over the years. I can confirm that the menu is as broad as it is deep. There is something for everyone. My go to lately is the beef stir fry noodle (S2) which hit all the right notes with its garlicky goodness. The vermicelli offerings are really well executed and offer great contrasts in temperature & texture. You won't be disappointed with V4. On a cold day, nothing is better than a bowl of pho. Go with P2 (say it in Spanish for a cheap giggle) and it enjoy a warm bowl of perfection. Aside from my personal go-to's, they offer all of the traditional dishes you'd expect at a Chinese restaurant - Beef & Broccoli, Kung Pao, Sweet & Sour, etc. It's all there. Thai offerings and Clay Pot choices are all there. Again - something for everyone. Still don't know what to get? Go with ANYTHING under Chef's Specialties in the menu or whatever the daily special is. You can't go wrong. While the menu gets its rightful praise for its massive selections, and the food earns rightful praise for its execution, the best thing about 888 is the (sit-down) service. The wait staff is attentive and friendly and the food arrives promptly. I've been here when it's slow and when it's busy - the service is always great. 4.5 solid stars + an extra half star to offset an unduly harsh review somewhere out there.

Yelp
Can't say we were impressed with this place as our pick for dinner one night. We took our food home to go, this place is bustling, and crowded, with people waiting outside the door. If you enjoy thick fair food style breading for your food, good on you, but something just didn't taste right to us. lol the breading for our calamari and chicken was thick and spongey and sweet, we compared it to fair grounds funnel cake batter (see photo to get better view) . Just Not our preference or taste profile... Our chicken pho was good Got papaya salad and it was wayyyy too sweet and almost bland to tick off boxes for other taste options.. although, I did appreciate the shrimp size I guess I'm so used to lao style papaya salad from back home in San Diego, that this just did not hit the spot for me. I had to add 2 types of fish sauces, fresh squeezed lime juice, and red Thai chilli peppers to adjust the flavors to my liking, at this point I should've just made it myself :/ Another down side, They forgot our Thai tea, had to call back and they offered a refund back to our card. Husband said he didn't like the food here, and he likes almost anything, so he's a critic in itself, lol guess this was a one and done :(

Yelp
I ordered take out for a quick lunch. The service was fast and straight forward from phone order to pick up. Loved the homey inside ambiance. The presentation for take out was impressive! I like the large take out tub the vermicelli was in. Unfortunately, the actual dish was not on par. The beef seemed plentiful but was huge cuts of fatty meat making it hard to eat without using extra utensils to cut it up. The sauce ramekin was small and did not cover all the items in the entree container, making the whole meal quite bland. I had quite a bit of left overs but vermicelli does not heat well due to fresh vegetables and cold (hard) noodle.. The salt and pepper squid was almost entirely deep fried batter. The seasoning wasn't the normal "Vietnamese salt and pepper". And the actual squid were just body pieces and not legs or rings. It was served over fresh vegetables and a container of jasmine rice, I was not a fan of this item either. For a $30+ meal... I wasn't satisfied and definitely regretted my choices. With other Vietnamese options close by, I don't think I'd order these items from 888 again.

Yelp
Love coming here while in Austin! Decided to show my best friend this place cause she was in the mood for pho & we happened to be nearby. We started off with chicken spring rolls, love dipping it in the peanut sauce! We also ordered chicken satay, which had a great flavor. Of course we ordered Pho, she ordered the chicken and I the shrimp, the broth was delicious & definitely needed in this cold weather. The service was great, everyone was attentive, and it wasn't packed at all but the place definitely had a crowd.

Yelp
Last spot for the trip. We tried this place out back in April. We ordered the pork spring rolls, egg noodle soup, grilled Korean bbq short ribs and grilled chicken. Glad we tried this place out. The food here was flavorful and so delicious. Service here was quick, attentive and friendly. Would come back here again.

Yelp
The place was highly recommend to me, but the dish I ordered wasn't that good. The restaurant is in a strip mall, nice parking lot, was busy at lunch. So all that gave good vibes. I ordered claypot, and it was just OK. Appetizer was also nothing special, did not leave any lasting impression. May go back at some point to give a shot with a different dish, but the restaurant did not meet the high expectations I had. Just another mediocre place.

Yelp
If you have a craving for Asian food, then this is the place to go. They mostly specialize in Vietnamese dishes, but they have really good Asian dishes from all over. My absolute favorite dish on the menu is the pineapple fried rice, which comes in an actual pineapple bowl. It's packed with yummy goodness of veggies and rice and your choice of protein. However, when it comes to eating a good hearty meal for a reasonable price, I like to go for the pho. Usually when I order full, I like to go classic and just get the thinly sliced steak on top with all the fix-ins which 888 happily gives extras of. There is usually a bit of a wait to get inside because the food is just that good but once you are in, they have quick service. It's pretty packed on most weekend nights, but you're still able to maintain a level of conversation.

Kelly D.

Yelp
Not hole in the wall vibes but nicer than most pho places I've been to. The service was good (Minh/Bill) was really attentive and nice. The food was decent, but not the best pho I've ever had. There were other items on the menu that looked really good and they're open late!

Natalia R.

Yelp
Parking - plenty; shared parking lot Takeout - yes Delivery - no (but I wish!); not on uber either Food - Curries and pho is really good! Good portions, flavorful, savory. Not over-salted. Happy that there are vegetarian options here. Service - The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Veronica R.

Yelp
The best bbq pork fried rice in Austin! The staff is very friendly and helpful when ordering. Their soups have all been very delicious. Love the yellow chairs in the restaurant, very comfortable.

Diem A.

Yelp
The portions here were huge! The service was unusually attentive for an Asian restaurant. Very spacious interior and vibrant. They were very friendly too. The pho was piping hot and delicious. The food came very fast and they had no issues splitting checks. Plenty of free parking. Will visit again the next time I'm in Austin.

Jaylin C.

Yelp
888 came a long way. I've been going here for about 4 years now. The food is always great. Service and prices can't beat it. The vibes definitely upgraded looks more modern inside, more of a clean feel while eating. I ordered the yellow curry it's my go too honestly. If not that then I would get fried rice. Rate the yellow curry 8.4/10, I was addicted to curry so I have been around town and had some pretty good curry. In all definitely recommend for a date or just sitting inside to eat lunch like I did today.

Zhou Jin D.

Yelp
We came here during dinner time around 9ish on a Friday night. The place was packed and we had to wait 10 mins. We got seated and the service was pretty fast. All the food came out very fast and it was good. The grill squad was good. You can taste the charred on it. My curry was really good and you can choose from brown rice or white rice with your dish. That's a plus since I like brown rice. The wings was not that great. The location is good for food late at night. They open very late. We need more Austin restaurants that opens late. They have live music, which surprised me in a such traditional looking Asian restaurant. The place is very traditional/typical mom and pop Asian restaurant interior. Would definitely recommend for a late night dinner or just dinner.

Sunny B.

Yelp
Did not love it here. We visited early on a Friday evening so did not have a wait for a seat, but first thing I noticed when we walked in was that the interior was quite dirty. The menus were sticky with food and there were quite a few flies buzzing around. I saw a few reviews mentioning that the sauces they use are not vegan. I asked about vegan items and our waitress pointed out a few dishes. I did not prod further about broth, fish sauce, etc. and I hope that the food was truly vegan. The service was quick and attentive, but the food was just ok. We ordered the vegetarian stir fry and general tso's tofu. The general tso's tofu was tasty with a delicious sauce and large crispy tofu pieces. The vegetarian stir fry was just ok. The sauce was nothing special and tofu pieces tasted old to me. Overall just an average experience. The menu is extensive and the late night hours are a win, but the cleanliness factor make this just a 2/5 for me.

Liam M.

Yelp
They had pretty good food. Very big menu. Inside there was an odd smell that lingered. It gave the restaurant a dirty feel. I have no problem with food or service. They could just clean a little better I guess.

Michaela J.

Yelp
Came here as for a late dinner with a friend. I'd seen a few recommendations for 888 so I was excited to try! VERY busy, doesn't seem like there is a reservation option online. But maybe look into calling in advance. We waited for about 20 minutes. Luckily the parking lot was pretty open and accessible, so there were no issues getting in and finding a space. They give you beeper and we waited in the car until it buzzed. On a Friday night, it was very busy; and we came pretty close to closing. During our visit, it was very loud in there because the tables are all packed in pretty close. The waitress moved very fast asking for orders and any drink options. Can't wait to try again and see other options on the menu! The food overall was good. I'm not a big pea and carrots on fried rice person but the flavor was good. And the size portion was great! Had plenty to take home.

Katie M.

Yelp
Great service and plenty of parking. Would recommend the Grilled Pork + Shrimp Lemongrass Vermicelli Bowl.

Liz T.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the portion was plentiful. Customer service was amazing and detail oriented. I got everything without even having to ask.

Richard A.

Yelp
2THIS is 22is one of my favourite neighborhood venues that I have not supported during this pandemic plus I waste 64769486_zpid 1q2 36th 2 2 I don't mood for Asian and 888

Lannae L.

Yelp
The Chef Special Roasted Duck tastes great! It is roasted duck breast with a veggie, slight spicy, slight sweet, and slight umami sauce/gravy served with a side of rice. The duck breast was tender, and grill seared. I would eat this again. . The staff was quite efficient. So, going in for lunch under 1 hr is completely doable. There is plenty of parking.

Chelsea L.

Yelp
Pad Thai doesn't taste like the pad Thai I've had before. I like the flavor-sweet and a little spicy-but the noodles are soggy. Food is affordable though.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Still my favorite Asian spot in Austin; but I need them to update their website and possibly offer delivery or hook up with Uber Eats or DoorDashpretty please!!

Lyn M.

Yelp
Ordered Togo: egg noodle soup and slices grilled pork over rice The pork was amazing The broth was bland The portion were good

Tee S.

Yelp
Love, love, love this spot. Whether it's a weekday or weekend, this place is always busy. The service and staff are amazing! They are very aware, constantly refilling drinks, and huge portion sizes. We love the fried rice, our favorite comfort food! The ambiance is is very bright and well-lit, in a neighborhood area so conveniently located.

Sophia L.

Yelp
This place NEVER misses. It is always a go-to spot whenever we're in Austin - the service is incredible, their food is authentic, and I can't wait to get back just for this.

Samantha A.

Yelp
We yelped this place and it had great reviews and we got to find out it's well deserved. The place is easy to find and on a Sunday afternoon was packed but seating took minutes for our family of five. Service is super fast but not rushed. We sat and server came quickly and took our order and remembered without writing, impressive The food was deeeeeeliciioouuuuuuss!!!! Of all of time we visit Austin (we live in San Antonio) have we not been here. This will be a place that we must visit whenever we are in town. The place is clean and welcoming and spacious. We will most definitely be back to this gem!!!!

Alexis M.

Yelp
Food was fine but service was terrible. Told us we had an hour wait but wouldn't let us wait in the AC and were rude about it. Wait wasn't even close to an hour and then the continued rude service continued. No eye contact, no interactions, felt like the sever thought we were rude for showing up to eat. Ambiance is strip mall, which is fine if the food is fantastic but this food is average at best and service made it worse. Would get take out but never going there to eat in again

Andy H.

Yelp
Customer service excellent food very fresh awesome Just like the freshness in the way it was presented Work hard for my money !

Rodney A.

Yelp
Whoa. And I mean- whoa! Top notch service. They were sooo dang nice. It was five of us in our party, and all of our food was good. I got the curry and I was happy I did. From the plating to the flavor to the portion size- everything was great! The restaurant style is dated. As far as the decor. But who cares. The bathroom was clean. The tables were clean. And I was sooooooo happy we picked that place. Next time I'm in the area, I absolutely NEED to go back!

Samantha T.

Yelp
Tried the shrimp crispy pad Thai tonight and it was a fun twist on a a pad Thai. I like a lot of texture in my food, so the crispy fried noodles covered in pad Thai sauce was a nice twist. The shrimp were cooked well and I added some fresh basil to it and a big squeeze of lime. Would definitely get it again, especially with the summer coming up. I don't think I've had anything bad here. Pho broth is flavorful but not too fatty, pineapple friend rice and currys are great too!

Tien T.

Yelp
The service is so fast . I mean it you order and turn around and there is your foods . No more than five minutes tops .

Sean C.

Yelp
My friends and I visited this place on a Saturday night and really enjoyed our time here. When we arrived the place was popping, so I knew the food would be good. We ordered the spring rolls to start and they were delicious. They were super fresh and hot, super crispy too. I ordered the veggie lo mein and it was also great, super flavorful and served hot AF! My wife ordered the pad Thai with crispy noodles and that was outstanding! Service was fast and friendly and the food was fire, 10/10 would absolutely recommend.

Darlene O.

Yelp
Disappointed. Food was underwhelming. So much so I only asked for a to go plate for the egg rolls. I ordered beef and shrimp lo mein spicy. Huge plate but I was not impressed. It came spicy but it just wasn't it for me. Shrimp was overcooked. Beef wasn't of good quality. Ordered the shrimp blanket or imperial shrimp. Very overcooked. I took one bite and didn't touch that plate anymore. Ordered the Yang Chow fried rice to go. It looks good. Haven't tried it yet. Hopefully it's decent.

Dtt D.

Yelp
Amazing tea! I had to order another, no free refills so you know it was good. We ordered veggie egg roll and fried shrimp for appetizers and it was delightful. I ordered the stir fried noodles and my pregnant wife ordered the chicken pad Thai, the spice level was immaculate. The portions are bigger than you'd expect, which was good for me, because I enjoy this yummy food later :) Wish I had room for dessert , maybe next time

Yelp
I discovered this hidden gem when I first moved to Austin in 2019. Since moving out the city, to Round Rock, I haven't been back. But I had a chance to visit my gem. Feeling nostalgic I ordered the pineapple fried rice and imperial fried shrimp. I ordered my food prior to arriving so my service was prompt and expedient. The dining cramped dining lobby was as packed and loud as it always is. With the hurried servers and patrons indulging in their meals. Pineapple fried rice, as the name suggests, it's served in half of a hollowed out pineapple with bits of pineapple, shrimp, duck, and chicken and is amazing!! Paired with the imperial fried shrimp, as an appetizer, which comes with a sweet duck sauce is the best combo in my humble opinion. Highly recommend. This restaurant is super busy, and they do offer their dishes-to-go. Do with that what you will.

Mariana G.

Yelp
I enjoyed their chicken pad Thai. First off, the portion is huge; I don't think I even finished half, so it would definitely be smart to share. I was worried the sauce would be spicy because there was a red chili pepper symbol next to it on the menu, but it wasn't that spicy (like a 2 out of 5). I appreciated that they asked if I preferred it with or without onions and peanuts. I ended up getting it with onions and without peanuts, but the onion slices were quite big, so next time I think I would get it without the onions too. I was also impressed by their extensive menu. Someday, I'd love to try their pho.

Erin L.

Yelp
I came here during a super cold day and ordered the meatball pho and drinking the broth just felt like a warm hug. It was super flavorful and the portion sizes were good as well. The service was pretty quick and I would 10/10 come back!

Jazel M.

Yelp
888 is my go-to Asian food spot in Austin, and it easily earns a well-deserved 5-star rating. The flavors are consistently on point, making every visit a culinary delight. Despite the long wait, the prices are great, and the experience is undoubtedly worth it. What keeps me coming back is the extensive menu, and I'm on a mission to try all the delectable offerings. Personal favorite? The crunchy noodles - a must-try for anyone visiting 888. The fast service is a game-changer; you're in and out without compromising the quality of the dining experience. A memorable incident emphasized their exceptional service - I accidentally spilled food on myself, and without hesitation, they provided a whole new meal and ensured I was cleaned up promptly. That level of customer care is truly commendable. In summary, 888 is not just a restaurant; it's an experience I won't stop revisiting. Great flavors, reasonable prices, efficient service, and a menu full of delights - it checks all the boxes for an outstanding Asian food spot in Austin. Five stars without a doubt!

Anjali S.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and incredibly flavorful. I have to recommend the crispy pad Thai - I've NEVER experienced flavor like this in my pad thai before. It almost ruins all other pad Thais from now on! The service is fast and the staff are always friendly. I am vegetarian, and they allow me to sub meat out for tofu. Location is tucked away a bit, but it's the perfect spot with a nice atmosphere. There are a couple tvs with sports playing, and there is a lot of seating space. Definitely give this place a try, you won't regret it!

Rachel C.

Yelp
The best curry in Austin hands down. It's hard to pick which one is my favorite. I always have to get an order of the spring shrimp rolls bc the peanut sauce lives in my head. Great now I want 888

Rolando G.

Yelp
I ordered the wrong thing but I was pleasantly surprised by the unique way this fried chicken was super crunchy and delicious! I think I ordered the Salt Pepper chicken (and I wanted a simple meal of grilled chicken and rice) - the flavors were very unique and garlicky. I had picked it up to go and I'm glad I did because the restaurant was super full - which is a great sign of quality.

Kia L.

Yelp
Came here yesterday night for a dinner with 3 friends. It was a busy night at 888! We started off with the sea food puffs (6) (Crab Ragoons) these were fresh and crisp to perfection and we also ordered the egg rolls (4) which were more like crunchy spring rolls, I didn't like the breading of these, they weren't soft or thick enough. For my main I ordered the Panang Curry Lamb Chops, there wasn't enough curry sauce for the dish and I think the dish would be better as a full curry with lamb pieces included...It's definitely not a main course as listed and more of an appetizer and for $20 it was not filling... food was just okay but the prices are decent and affordable for those looking for a hot meal. Service was quick.

Laura E.

Yelp
3.8 stars. The thing that I love about 888 is the extensive menu.. they have something for everyone! My favorites on the menu are the Tom Kha Gai and panang curry. The meat in the soupy dishes are a little dry but I feel like that's to be expected. I prefer to bring this home to eat because the restaurant is packed full with not much space between tables. It feels very rushed inside the restaurant which I don't like for a night out. I would recommend trying it during the week.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
One of our fav Asian restaurants in town. Great for dining in or take out. We called in the order and it was ready in about 20 minutes on a busy Friday night. They have large portions for decent pricing and are quick! My favorite dish this evening was the TSO Chicken.

Katherine I.

Yelp
Got invited to finally try @888_vietnamese_restaurant This place is PHENOMENAL I can't believe I live in Riverside an never have been here. I took my bestie out to check it out with me and we were shocked just walking in the door! Smelled amazing, absolutely packed, and the dishes looked incredible We had Sally as our waitress and she was just lovely and super attentive. We were kind of a pain in the ass. Thanks Sally!!! We started with the Tom Yum Gai - I loved it but my friend thought it had a strange bite from the lemongrass. I added chili oil to mine on the top which was definitely a good tip from other foodies in austin! We also shared the crispy noodles which was such a unique experience. We were so confused I mean I guess crispy is in the name but damn these were strange at first sight. Sally came over and thought us how to eat them which includes rolling them over in the sauce and letting them soak a while. Turned out to be a neat dish and HUGE portions. Probably wouldn't order again tho. The 10/10 dish was the sesame chicken. Holy hell This thing was MASSIVE and the best I've ever had. The chicken somehow was super juicy even tho flash fried and drenched and looked soggy but was crispy. GET THIS DISH. Ended up at @shakespearesatx for some live music and watermelon "Mexican candy" shots. Delicious. Fun week for food, thanks @888_vietnamese_restaurant for the invite. We shall be back!

Arturo I.

Yelp
Food is so !! Delicious recommend yall should check it out ! U won't disappoint when u eat there !

Bhagyashree B.

Yelp
This restaurant has good food and value for money. The portion sizes are large and filling so we usually come here when in the mood for a hearty meal. Seating area is basic, decor is welcoming. Tofu vermicelli and lemongrass chicken were delicious although veg egg rolls were undercooked and slightly raw inside. Our server was fast and friendly!

Jared G.

Yelp
We always have a good meal at 888. After being on the road for a long weekend I took wifey out for dinner. I wanted something we don't always go to. She suggested 888 and we hadn't been there for a while. I got Mongolian Beef and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. Wifey doesn't like pork but she tried the Mongolian Beef. She didn't like the spicyness. I don't like spicy, but it was really good. Not very spicy at all, just right. The BBQ pork rice was great. Juicy bits of meat and good rice. Between the two dishes, I took enough home to have a big lunch. She got the Shrimp on crispy egg noodles. Like a nest of fried noodles holding assorted veggies and shrimp. She loved it, said it tasted great. There was asparagus, mushrooms, carrots and other Asian veggies. She also said her Thai tea was delicious. I went simple with a Dr. Pepper. They serve Pepsi products, or I would have had a Coke. In the end, another enjoyable meal at 888. We'll be back again in the future.

Shannon T.

Yelp
I remember coming to 888 back when I lived in Austin. I recently visited again, and it tastes just as good as I remember! They give you a buzzer to wait for a table when you get there, and we were seated within 5 minutes. The food comes out decently fast as well after you order. The servers are very attentive and quick with taking your order For appetizers, we got the royal sampler, and each part of it was delicious, especially the squid and the beef wrapped around the sugar cane! We also got the crispy pad thai and pineapple fried rice, which both had HUGE portions. I've never had a dish like the crispy pad thai before - it was delicious, but definitely a dish for sharing as the taste can get fatiguing. My personal favorite was the pineapple fried rice, as it was perfectly savory and sweet with the pineapple. I love how it was served in a half pineapple, too!! Overall, this place is DELICIOUS - 10/10 would recommend!! They have such an extensive menu, and I will definitely be back to try the rest!
