Java Pura Coffee Roasters and Specialty Coffee Catering

Absolutely amazing first experience here! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I pulled up to the back door in a business park, but what I found inside did not disappoint. Their operation inside is impressive, with all of their roasting equipment and beans on full display. They had a wonderful selection of coffee, including a Swiss water decaf, which I’ve had trouble finding. When I purchased, I watched her package the beans, roasted earlier that day, in front of my eyes and add the appropriate stamps/labels to each bag. As far as the beans themselves, they are quite literally the best smelling beans I’ve ever encountered. Opening the bag at home gave the entire room the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee - heavenly! Plus, the beans are incredibly uniform with no over or under roasted beans included (a problem I’ve had with other local roasters). As you can see in the video, the beans made for a great espresso shot pull with an impressive crema and delicious, almost sweet and chocolatey flavor. Needless to say, this will be my new spot for fresh beans. Please go check them out and see for yourselves!

Java Pura is easily one of the best roasters in Houston!! Their coffee is DELICIOUS and they truly care about the quality of their beans. We went to this location (they cannot sell coffee drinks to the public) and Billy, the head roaster gave us a mini tour and mini masterclass on coffee and roasting. We got to do a little tasting of roasts and picked one out to take home. As we are visiting Houston, Billy was kind enough to even tell us some of his other favorite roasters in the local area. I’ve gone to many roasters in all different cities to try new beans and this was by far THE BEST experience visiting any roaster. Billy and his roasting team were delightful to interact with and were so kind and generous to us. Good luck in the roasting tournament Billy! Can’t wait to try more of your guys’ roasts!

My first time coming here after moving from out of state looking for a new local roastery and boy did I luck out trying this one. Richard, one of the business partners, told me all about how they source their coffee and showed me around the roastery and even gave me a sample shot of one of the espresso blends. He is clearly very passionate about coffee, which is a lot of fun. Highly recommend coming here.

This is not a coffee shop, but they do sell beans and sample coffee here. You will be able to tell as soon as you walk in. I got a few pounds of beans and they threw in a sample of some single origin, single farm beans from El Salvador, which was super nice. Also got a sample of the cold brew and loved it. The prices aren’t cheap, but I’m guessing a bit less than retail. Everything is super fresh, and roasted recently - quality stuff.

Easily one of the best local coffee roasters in Houston. Staff is super friendly, prices are extremely fair and best of all, the coffee is absolutely amazing. They have a great selection and wealth of knowledge in the coffee world and have suggested fantastic roasts for my espresso and pour overs.

I came in a couple of weeks ago to pick up a bag of coffee. The lady up front was super nice. An older gentleman came out of a side room and talked over her to assist me and then would not let me leave. I told the older man I needed to leave and he would over-talk me and tell me I know just let me show you one more thing. He was very rude to her which was not a great thing to see. I wonder if this is his family and that's why and to me. I debated on posting, my advice is if you want their coffee don't go in-store. The coffee was great but not the experience.

I have a mental illness I used to be a member of St Joseph's clubhouse in Houston java Pura donated a bunch of coffee and it was the reason we drank free coffee it is better than starbucks

I bought a bag of the Costa Rican coffee and was very pleased. It was so fresh, it was just roasted that day, and was only $16. I’m adding them to my monthly rotation for sure. They are always so nice when you visit them in person I would suggest stopping by if you’re in the area. I can’t wait to try all of their regions….Columbia is next.

My interaction with the staff was weird. I had asked if they made coffee or did they only sell beans. They said they only sold beans which if fine but I then stepped into their entrance area and they had a sign listing their signature drinks that they made. They also gave a guy a cold brew and gave people who came after me coffee samples. I really don't know why I was told they didn't make coffee since I was willing to pay. Bad customer service but people seem to like the place.

the staff were nice and have lavender and caramel lattes tasty. the quality was good.

I am new to this type of fresh coffee bought espresso at HQ but could never get it right it was bitter or sour and beans didn't smell like coffee March 2025.Great staff

The Costa Rica Don Teofilo coffee is a killer! It is the first espresso that I made at home where I clearly tasted the lemon citrus flavor which wasn't at all overwhelming or puckering and blended perfectly with a rich chocolatety flavor. So well balanced. I bought the beans, however at Central Market and they were roasted just a few days before. I've had dozens of highly touted local and national brands of coffee and this is right there with the best.

Fantastic place to buy your coffee beans. We buy our espresso from here and they are so sweet and ground it for us as well! 1000% recommend this place.

My sister introduced me to this coffee 10+ years ago and it is the first time Inhad time to go there when I was in Houston to buy my own bag directly from them fresh!!! You can also buy at Central Market stores! Next time I get to Houston .,.I will be buying more directly from Java Pura!

What a cute business off of 23 rd St near Shepherd. They have food and gifts procured from Europe and their website is easy to order for pickup or mailing. I was very curious about this place S I was walking the dogs. For my first purchase, I bought a set of beautiful French knives that are white with golden finish. Also 12 boxes of bonbons for gifts and peony French tea. I also bought some berry jams for a future exquisite cheese plate. Very pleased and highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our visit to this roastery. The young man that talked to us and showed us around was one of three people that were working here that were passionate about what they do for a living, who could blame them...working around all those amazing smells of roasting beans. If you call ahead, which we didn't, they'll set you up with a full on tour of their facility. We picked up a couple bags of whole beans that taste phenomenal. The Costa Rica Don Teofilo medium roast and the dark roast Costa Rican Black Pearl beans made us very happy. Another nice touch is each bag is stamped with a roast date. This place is a hidden gem and I probably shouldn't spill the beans......sorry, I couldn't help myself. Another place to find them is at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market.

Fabulous company who provided a coffee table set up for our daughter's wedding. The owner is a really nice person. He is knowledgeable and I learned a lot about coffee. The cold brewed coffee is the best i have had

I had called and spoke with Brenda back in February regarding the possibility of Java Pura catering for my daughters upcoming wedding so I had appointment today to discuss all of what Java Pura could provide the guests on a espresso and cappuccino bar. When we first walked in the smell of the fresh roasted coffee was absolutely amazing. Brenda and here staff were waiting for us and they were all so genuinely sweet and nice. We also had the opportunity to meet the owner of the company who talked to us about where the coffee originated from and the differences in the flavors and the roasting processes. My daughter tasted their cold brew and I had a hot caramel latte. We both agreed that the coffee was some of the best we had ever tasted. The cold brew actually comes in bottles that you can buy locally. Later during our meeting the owner proceeded to make us a different cold brew concoction with agave and half&half and let me tell you it was amazing. This cold brew is not the type you buy in the bottles, this was the concentrated that they sell and then you dilute. It was beyond delicious. It is only available cold in stores and it does not ship so I cannot bring it back to Florida or I would bring back a few. We have definitely decided to have Java Pura at my daughters wedding The do sell coffee right out of their corporate offices so stop by and buy coffee and be happy!

Java Pura was a wonderful addition to our wedding weekend and highly recommend hiring for your coffee needs! We hired their team to provide coffee service at our wedding and then again for brunch the next day. The coffee options were a hit with our guests! My hubby and I were searching for coffee beans in Houston and decide to head to Java Pura Coffee Roaster to buy coffee beans. We were pleasantly surprise to receive a tour from the staff and the owner, Richard. He is very passionate and knowledgeable on coffee. Also, He provided recommendations on coffee beans,which we really appreciate!! We also got to sample the expresso blend and we both agree that it taste fresh and the color of the coffee is a little more full than lighter roasts. I usually drink dark roasted coffee but the fresh medium roasted coffee bean here got me hooked! They do cater for weddings, corporate,& events too!! So, book them at your next event! Highly recommend!!

A gem of a coffee roaster.. headquartered in Gulfton, near Chimney Rock. This place is a bit difficult to find due to the aesthetic looks from the outside. You'll notice a row of standard office looking buildings. Makes it a bit of an adventure trying to locate this coffee lab. Java Pura is the local soul of the best coffee beans in Houston. You may find their products at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market, Central Market or any catering events. This lab is not a coffee shop, so don't go looking for a barista that can make you latte art. Rather the folks behind the business are incredibly passionate about their beans. They are super friendly and will give you a tour if you're interested in one. I visited a friend here and had the pleasure in viewing their machines and products up close. The beans are roasted in the lab and carefully packaged and shipped across various destinations. If you're interested in purchasing a package of coffee beans, you may do so during their business hours. The flavours are fresh and very aromatic. Grinding your beans at home will help to preserve the overall flavor. Reemerge and awaken back to life. I've been an advocate of supporting local as displayed in my 11 years of Yelp rendezvous. Java Pura is an example of supporting a business that really displays their heart and passion through their beans, packaging, and curation. Have any questions? They'll happily assist you. The coffee bean was good! I bought some for my aunt who loves coffee and she said she loves it!

It is not common these days to experience exceptional customer service but thanks to the efforts of Kat & Jeff I will forever be a loyal customer. I recently moved from Houston to the DC area and although I'm sure there are fabulous coffee shops here too, I have greatly missed my yellow honey coffee from Java Pura. It's liquid gold in a cup Jeff & Kat understood my and went above & beyond to take care of the order.

Best coffee I've had! And it wasn't even onsite at their comfort zone. They were serving coffee at a Hines corporate event and I ordered an Americano. It was made to absolute perfection - taste , temperature and texture. Thank you to the awesome baristas !

This place is the BEST coffee I've had in Houston, by far!!!!!! Seriously, I've tried several of the blends and liked them so much I had to visit their site/office. it's great! you can actually see how the coffee beans are processed, roasted, and packaged, and they will give you a tasting of different ones so you can decide what you like. They even show you which farms in which country your coffee is coming from... that's amazing. Who woulda thunk it? I think this place is 5 star not just for the coffee, but also for the service. They really care, and I love supporting local businesses like this one. These guys rule my caffeinated world!!!!! My favorite beans: Sumatra Iskanar, Espresso Blend, Sumatra Aceh Gold, Cost Rica Los Angeles, EthiopianLekempti, and Ethiopia Misty Valley. I bet they are all good, but these are my favorites.

We buy this coffee from the Eastside farmer's market, and we've also visited the roastery for a tour. It's good coffee; better yet, at $10 for 12 ounces, it's affordable given the quality. Also, because it's roasted a mile from our home, it's always absurdly fresh. The aroma dominates our cupboard. Highly recommended.

Amazingly smooth and fresh coffee. No bitterness. Friendly people. They will show you around their facility. A little hard to find in a business park, but worth the adventure.

I just wanted to update that they do sales at their office, and they even take credit cards. In fact, they prefer it, since they don't really keep cash at the front desk. Your selection will be limited, pretty much, to what they've roasted that day or the day before (since everything else has gone out the door), but that's not a problem. There always is something excellent on hand. They couldn't be nicer. If the owner is on hand and not terribly busy and if you have the time, talk to him and get a little tour. If you are at all interested in coffee, roasting, the industry, or anything related, you will learn a great deal and enjoy the time!

I received a bag of their French Roast in the mail from a local source who Fedexed it overnight so that I could try these freshly roasted beans. Smooth, no acidity, but just bold enough to entice me! Then, while at Central Market, I sampled their Costa Rican (lovely but a bit mellow for me) and their Panama and Holiday roasts. All truly perfect roasts. They stand alone or can be "dressed" up with a spot of warm milk (please, no sweeteners, people!) I will stock up each time I'm in Houston!

This is awesome coffee. The Costa Rican beans aged in oak wine casks are incredible - I've never tasted coffee this good; or this unique. The beans are naturally infused with a perfect touch of fine wine and oak aromas. Coffee beans just don't get any better than this. And it's no wonder, Richard and his crew go to EXTREMES to produce the absolute best roasts from hand-picked beans. Nothing is left to chance and it shows. Thanks for the best coffee experience ever!!!

Just went by and spent 2 hours without even realizing it! Learned a lot about where they source their coffee from the owner himself, and got to sample a few different types of coffee (expressions, drip, cold brew). Biggest discovery was the tea - I'll say no more! Like other posters indicate, this is NOT a coffee shop, it's their offices and roasting facility, but you can buy their coffee and other items and, if you're lucky like us, get a personalized tour!

Java Pura produces the best coffee I've ever tasted. Their care and desire to produce a premium coffee is evident in every bean. I will buy nothing but Java Pura FLC beans in the future. Take the time and meet Fielding and Richard; their passion for top quality coffee produces the best cup you will ever have.

So for anyone looking for a sit down coffee shop, this is NOT it lol. It's a location for the roasting of the coffee. The owner (Richard I think is his name) is super nice and happy to give a tour or talk to you about the coffee. I got a bottle of the cold brew and it was delicious!! Planning to buy whole beans in the near future

this is still my go-to provider for coffee. i make at least one latte per day, and often 2 or 3. initially, i used Java Pura's espresso blend but began to think it needed a bit more darkness, bitterness, character, or something. so, i began mixing the espresso blend 1:1 with their French Roast. this worked for me for a while, but i now only use French Roast for my latte's, doing a shorter pull than i did previously. this coffee is available at Central Market, but i usually buy at the Farmer's Market on Westheimer on Sat mornings (formerly off Eastside and Richmond). no need to look further for me.

There is just no better coffee bean out there in Houston. Maniacal commitment to sourcing the very best beans, then roasting them to bring out their best. Tired of overly roasted coffees that taste reminiscent of an ashtray? Worry not. While those who insist on charred coffee can get their French roast, they are missing out on the payoff of all that careful sourcing of beans. Once you burn beans, they all taste the same. Many of JP's beans are roasted on the light side of medium. Costa Rica Don Teofilo is one of the only 3 beverages I ever drink anymore. Drink it black, even if you aren't used to drinking it black. Discover things in your coffee you never taste drinking all that "bold" garbage... caramel, walnuts, milk chocolate, brown butter. Buy it at Central Market, or get a better price by picking it up at their facility on Gulfton on roasting days (Tues and Thurs.) Call in the morning, tell them what you want, and they'll have it packed with your name on it - beans still warm in the package.

I love this place! Just for a little background, this place isn't a cafe or even a formal "storefront". It's the HQ where they roast, which you happen to be able to buy the beans and other products from. It's $8 for half a pound, which is a little high in my opinion but still worth it. I've tried their Espresso Blend and the Costa Rica Don Teofilo. The espresso blend is a slighter darker roast, still a medium roast though, and much more oily bean. Both work well served as espresso. I think I might even prefer the Don Teofilo for espresso shots. Give them both a try!

Great coffee. Tried the Ethiopian and it is the best I have found in Houston. Look forward to trying other single origin cups.

Love this coffee, so I leapt on the chance to take a group tour. Richard conducted the tour which was informative and fun. We got to try two types of coffee and learn more about why their coffee tastes so fresh. I bought a bag at discount to take home and the smell in my house is so much more aromatic than any other coffee. A must see and taste for Houston coffee enthusiasts.

I finally found a local coffee roaster! i only go through half a pound a week and i like my espresso fresh. it makes such a difference. I got the french roast and the amount of crema on my espresso was awesome. The sign at central market says they deliver every wednesday. They actually have roasted on dates on the bags too.

My husband and I were visiting family in Houston over Christmas. We had gone to one cafe that we liked the day after Christmas but it was closed. We found Java Pura on Yelp and decided to go there. As we approached the address, we thought Yelp had it wrong but then we saw the sign and went in. We were warmly welcomed, given a delicious latte and a fascinating tour of the facility. We love talking about coffee and they do too. It was so much fun. We left with their espresso blend. Back in NYC, we've just finished the Espresso Blend and it was absolutely delicious. Run, don't walk to Central Market to try it. It rivals some of the great coffees we can get locally in NYC. A real treat.

I stopped by the Java Pura roasting facility today. These people are very friendly. Richard gave me tour and a lot of great information about coffee; how it's grown, picked, processed, and roasted. Java Pura coffee comes directly from individual growers in Costa Rica and all over the world. Their coffee is roasted in Houston, and available in stores the next day. Java Pura coffees are roasted in small batches from a single source. They travel to where the coffee is grown, and build a relationship with the farmers. They taste the coffee from a harvest and purchase only the highest quality product. Richard sold me three bags with very different flavor profiles. I can't wait to try them!

Super friendly people. Richard is a very nice guy, gave me and a friend a ride since we were on longboards. Alex the younger guy was also very cool. He showed us around and gave us a tour of the roaster. All around cool place, will deffinantly go back.

We have tried several of the Java Pur coffee beans and love them all. Their ice coffee is the best! A little pricier than most, but definitely worth it.

Super nice people, great facility and excellent coffee! Glad I found this place!
