Every Important 24-Hour Restaurant in Portland | Eater Portland

"The salvation of many a late-night binge in the reaches of North Portland, the no-frills Javier’s Tacos serves, appropriately, a menu of tacos large and small, as well as other Mexican-American staples such as tortas, tostadas, and enchiladas. For the truly indulgent, the carne asada fries are a massive platter of crinkle fries topped with heaps of meat and cheese. The shop also serves a variety of Mexican doughnuts and pastries for those craving sugar." - Alex Frane

This is a great place to get a quick fast food type experience of typical Mexican food. I didn't count them, but I think there are at least 40 combinations that you can chose from just by stating the number. They are quick and the food is tasty and fresh. They have a good salsa bar. My only complaint is a that they charge $5 for tostadas, or as they call them here "chips". Most Mexican restaurants offer them for free. I'll admit, I guess my main interest in this place is because of the name. I like the photo app. It's not bad, give it a try.

Google
The staff very friendly very upbeat and happy. Food was amazing at a very reasonable price. They made the food so incredibly fast. I don’t really live near here but the truth I will be going out of my way for some of the best Mexican food I have had.

Google
I ordered the nachos. The meat was extremely dry and super salty! I also asked for green sauce in the notes on DoorDash, I got nothing. Barely any gauc, sour cream and pico de galo.. most just dry salty meat. I know they know me by name because I order from them a lot but that last like 3 months I’ve been completely disappointed . Won’t be ordering from them anymore ✌🏾

Google
I ordered their Torta Cubano special and I believe it is the biggest Torta I have ever had. I had to take a picture before I devoured it. I’m glad I ordered it. Amazing. Thank you! 😁

Google
My review is based on an incident that happened at this restaurant. I’m giving it 2 stars only for the food. I went here on a Saturday night and left my wallet in the counter. I called next day to see if they had my wallet and was asked if my name was spelt xxx. I affirmed and made arrangements to pick up my wallet shortly. After about an hour, I get a notification from my bank alerting me someone was using my bank card. Upon calling the restaurant again to check if they still had my wallet I was told “you called and told us to give your wallet to your daughter” I let them know I had no daughter and questioned how did they just give my wallet to a total stranger without verifying proof of ID. I understand it was my fault for leaving my wallet there in the first place but I can’t get past the fact that they handed my belongings to a total stranger without verification. I’m suspicious that one of the employees had something to do with this though I can’t be sure. Needless to say my wallet was never recovered. I will not be going back here again.

Google
first time here. i got the carne asada burrito & a drink. $16.25.... it was probably worth about $12. the burrito is a decent size & it seems like they make an effort to trim the fat off the meat before cooking it. just way too expensive for what it is, especially when theres less expensive competition nearby. the building is sort of run-down & the ceiling inside is covered in water damaged tiles that are probably moldy, if they are gonna charge more they could at least reinvest it into the restaurant instead of just pocketing it..

Google
I have yet to actually eat here, but I can attest that it's very popular for late night / early am orders for door dash. The place stays steady all the time from what I can tell. The cashier is always polite and attentive. The rest of the staff is also cordial. While the inside of the restaurant might be a little plain decor wise, it is always pretty clean as far as I can tell. I'd say they're definitely worth a try. I plan to in the relative near future.

Google
This is the grossest place ever For Mexican food you need to close down or they need Gordon Ramsay or somebody to your establishment because your food is garbage and when I say garbage, I mean bottom of the barrel garbage it upset everybody stomach and if you can eat this, your stomach is made of steel This Is A Dump My Bacon And Egg Burrito Was Full Of Fat And Eggs And it Stunk Like Pig …. I Will Never Eat Here Again 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤬

Yelp
Good little shop for cheap burritos. Down side is the meats can be a little oily. They get your food out fast and hot! They have some very good desserts, their burritos are to go bananas over, and they have delicious horchata!

Yelp
Went here with my girlfriend expecting a nice Cali burrito..... I was dead wrong. the burrito was greasy to the point it was dripping out of the bag and the meat looked like it was cooked last week. I went in with high hopes and everyone told me not to, I should have listened.

West H.

Yelp
Tried the Birria soup with goat meat. Double the goat, too! Took about 20-30 minutes to prepare, which is unfortunate. Soup was great and dressed well with common condiments. The ceiling could use a paint job, due to several water stains. Shoot! Maybe resurface or redo the roof. The coffee bar was the most aesthetically pleasing display. The rest was either hand written neon signs or similar to the menus at Muchas Gracias. A bit of revisions could make this venue a bit more appealing. Open 24 hrs which is nice!

Yelp
I ordered lunch from Javier's for lunch on a work trip and I was not impressed. Granted, I grew up and live in California, so my Mexican food standards are probably higher than others. I ordered the carne asada burrito and I was so glad that they didn't include rice as a filler in it. While the burrito was large and definitely a meal in itself, it lacked flavor, and the meat was really chewy. It had a strong vinegar taste which probably came from the pico. Overall, it was OK, but I wouldn't order again while I am in town.

Yelp
Well,it is open 24hiurs...2taco plate,2enchalada plate. Gonna throw it all away. This is not Mexican food ,I don't know what this is. It's an extremely Caucasian version with peas an carrots in the rice, the taco is literally a mound of meat an corn shell, two tacos, meat an corn shell,it was basically the same item....tasted bad....TRY MAKING AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD,your business would triple if you did. Take this food to any Mexican Neibor an have them try it an watch they're face lol

Yelp
Open late 24hrs 7 days a week great food for late nights and the price is good not over priced. Highly recommended

Yelp
Food is 90% of the time not even edible. Tonight crossed the line when they wouldn't fix the order I made. Old meat most of the time and just nasty dirty place with drug addicts using drugs in the parking lot. It's open late but not worth it if you can't even eat the food because it's so nasty and not consistent.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
this is the worst place ever, we ordered a bunch of stuff and most of the order was wrong. Not only that we pulled hairs out of our tacos. When we went to cut into our wet tamale A BUG RAN THE HELL OUT OF IT, my friends and I all looked at each other like did you just see that shit? We reported it to door dash and we're refunded but won't recommend lol.

Yelp
Low Key for a 24 hour Taqueria with the best authentic Burritos in Town. Great Savory Authentic Mexicali deserts and drinks, such as Flan and Horchata...huge cup for about $3.85...so tastie! Carnitas, Beef, Chicken and more. If a person doesn't like it, it's because they must not like Authentic Mexican Food. The people who run this Taqueria are courteous and friendly. Please keep in mind it's a Small Family Taqueria...not a chain...very Low Keep and pleasant!!

Yelp
DONT EAT HERE. Honestly, don't understand how this business has 5 star reviews. It's disgusting and a waste of money. You want a late night snack? Have cereal or some chips. Anything is better than this place. We ordered a shrimp ceviche tostada that looked like ragú with frozen mini shrimp. The temperature was too warm for my liking and the taste was worst. Only thing they have that's decent is their beans.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious and good variety! It was a work treat on a day we all needed a little something and this hit the spot for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Lol I Stan Javier's but never get the sausage breakfast burrito. They cut up cheap processed hot dogs and used them as the "sausage". This item is actually really funny and not tasty at all! I should have just ordered 15 of their churros cuz at least I know those are good.

Yelp
The worst Mexican food ive ever tasted in my 33 years of being alive. Taste like soggy diaper. Honestly if your hungry, go to sleep hungry. The disgust from the food is not worth filling the hunger void in your tummy. I regrwt every bite i took.
google avatar

Yelp
This is hands down the best late night spot in Portland. The food is SOOO GOOD (and yes I've eaten it sober, I know the late night crowd haha). The staff is friendly and charming. Even with huge crowds of people late weekend nights they still get your food out fast. Never had a wrong order here.

Stephen H.

Yelp
Quick service but the food just wasn't very good. Beans and rice both were way too salty and tasted like prepackaged/canned stuff. The fish tacos were very bland with lettuce rather than cabbage, totally dry with zero seasoning or sauce (aside from a dash of cilantro), and no limes. The place seemed busy enough that I'm sure they have some good items, but I'd steer clear of the fish.

Yelp
Nothing has changed at all except the price, it has gone up again believe it or not. Turned around and walked out, along with my entire work crew.

Yelp
dry H MEAT NASTY ASS FOOD i couldnt finish any of it and the rice tasted like soap. horcahta was good but i qhen u look in the back u can see the caked up grossness. i hate my lifeAFTER EATING THIS. gave me borderline throw up condition. only went because my freinds forced me. never comign again. i never leve reviews but this was so bad i had to warn u all. i wouldrather eat canned food. i hTE MYSELF.

Yelp
Their website says their burritos are 6.99. They are not. They are 8.99. I look online & see the 6.99 price, I order over the phone. Got there & was charged more than what is advertised online. JAVIER UPDATE YOUR ONLINE PRICES! ITS FAULSE ADVERTISING!

Yelp
Javier's never disappoints. There's so much on the menu but I love the pastor and the chorizo burritos and tacos. Javier's is open late too. They are always nice and the sauce/condiment bar is perfect.

C. J. R.

Yelp
Was not allowed to park in the parking lot. Delivery driver told me to get lost. This happened just before 7 am on Friday, January 19th. I wanted to try this place. Apparently they did not want my business... I will not return to this location.
google avatar

Yelp
I will begin this review by stating I have never ordered Javier's sober. It's always my go to late night order because it's really the only thing open for delivery super late. I typically go with a quesadilla which is not the worst but it's not as cheesy as it could be. My boyfriend always orders chips and guac and the guac is just awful (he likes it for whatever reason). It's super runny, not chunky at all and is almost like an old avocado smoothie. It's just not worth anything. The other thing that drives me nuts and I truly don't understand is what they do with the chips. They give you lots of chips with UNMELTED shredded cheddar. It's so odd and I don't get it. Again, my boyfriend loves it for whatever reason haha. The chips are usually a little stale too. It's fine in a drunken pinch but I would not necessarily recommend it.

Yelp
When Grubhub let me know that my go to burrito place was suddenly outside my delivery zone I felt such despair. How could they be so cruel and deprive me of their delicious burritos?!? Alas, my pity party didn't last long as I turned my attention to searching for the perfect burrito on Yelp. And find it I did, at Javier's. I liked their site because I was able to customize my burrito as I saw fit. I like to add extra Shrimp and sour cream and remove green peppers and onions. I've ordered from them multiple times and they have always gotten my order correct and it always arrives piping hot. I don't mind paying a little extra for the additional amount of shrimp and they really heap it on. If you're a burrito person, I think you'll like Javier's. 2021 - Review #14

Yelp
It's quick and open 24 7. Decent horchata if you like it on the minty side. Just being grateful it's always there and available

Jaime C.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone even if my life depended on it, sadly yelp doesn't allow me to give no stars, so I had to leave one star.

Ashlyn F.

Yelp
A bug was in my food along with a gray hair. Nasty. Don't go here unless you want food poisoning
google avatar

Yelp
The chili relleno burrito is either mediocre or incredible. It's so good when it's good that it's worth rolling the dice. IYKYK.

James ..

Yelp
The food is ok. Large portions at good prices but it's Nothing special. the place though is awful. Terrible place to eat a meal.

Kris R.

Yelp
Good fast and authentic. Make sure to buy the orange coconut balls sold at the counter.

Yelp

Yelp
I don't know when the decline happened at Javier's between high school and now but it definitely happened. We decided to come here after the club and I was expecting that some Javier taste especially since I always order the same thing. I was surprised at the bland low quality of the steak, the lack of flavor and finesse in the guacamole and the overall lack of life. IMO portland is known for its great eats! You can find unique dishes, authentic Chinese and Mexican and so much more. I won't be coming back to Javi's, this is this first time that Taco Bell would've taken the win over one of my use to be favorite places. Time to find another late night spot in PDX that'll satisfy my greasy Mexican craving!
google avatar

Andres F.

Yelp
This is definitely fast food tacos. They messed my order up and forgot the churros. You never forget the churros!!!

Lily M.

Yelp
I used to be a regular at this place because of their tortas and menudo. But it's definitely gone way down hill. I would not consider it good anymore unfortunately. I ordered my usual which was a tripa torta with extra meat and menudo. I got almost no meat and it was 80% bread. The menudo also had no meat and the broth tasted days old. I have no idea what happened or if there was a change in ownership. My family will definitely miss coming to this place though. Considering they used to be known for awesome portions and prices, I hope in the next few months they go back to that. If you do eat here don't spend $3 on anything extra especially meat because they'll give you even less than normal.

Yelp
Javier's is open 24 hours and still operating in these crazy COVID times!! I was craving some comfort pozole soup and WOW they nailed it!!! The accoutrements that come with the pozole are very generous. 3 hard shell tortillas with an abundance or lettuce, onion and cilantro. All the food looked and smelled so good so I ordered cheese enchiladas which also did not disappoint!! Even though I did not pre-order the enchiladas they were ready within minutes after ordering. We love love love their breakfast burritos!! I order via Postmates and Postmates said my order would be ready in five minutes but when I got there they had just received the order from Postmates so next time I will call Javiers directly to place my order. Postmates also does not give you the option of adding a tip but they have a tip jar on the counter.

Yelp
Their over priced, they charged me over 22.00 for extra for bacon, but I had no bacon just extra potatoes and eggs. There was no flavor to the Breakfast Burritos I got there. When I went to talk to the manager she was rude and told me she had to talk to the cook and the cashier to find out their side of the story. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? She asked for my name and number, but I doubt she'll call me back. I'm never going back there again. So don't waste your time nor money there. Plus they don't wear masks as they suppose to nor wash their hands.

Donna Q.

Yelp
Had not been here for a few years. Now I remember why. Beans and rice was bland. No flavor at all. Steak tacos the meat was hard. I'll pass this place next time.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in here a couple of weeks ago on my way to the office because I was craving a good Adobada Burrito. I did not have a whole lot of time so I called ahead to order the burrito. When I arrived at the location the burrito was ready to go. I was able to pay for it rather quickly and was soon on my way. Just enough time for a quick Yelp check in. I would say the customer service was really good. I took the burrito home to the office with me and I was soon able to sit down and enjoy it. However, to my amazement the burrito left a lot to be desired. For a second I thought they gave me the wrong order. Imagine somebody dumping a soup in a large tortilla and trying to pass it off as a burrito. The cook wrapped it in three separate sheets of paper. Seriously , this was pretty disgusting . I made a mess all over the place. Not being one to give up easily, I powered through with a fork. The taste for the burrito was OK not bad. This burrito is supposed to be dry with onion and cilantro. Maybe some pico de gallo. I am willing to give this place another shot but I will definitely tell tell the cook that I don't want the soup in my burrito!
google avatar

Ciarra W.

Yelp
Probably the worst tacos I've had in a while hence why I can't even eat them. This is apparently their shrimp fajitas. The shrimp was unseasoned and some seem old and some seem undercooked. There is mushroom and a pea and rice and shrimp in the "fajitas. They also forgot multiple items. I know the pandemic is hard for people but it's 8 at night and there was only one person at the restaurant and I called ahead. I am disappointed to say the least. I do not recommend.

Yelp
Finally had the Javier's experience and found it delightful. Ordered the cheese enchiladas which turned out to be an entire plate with rice, beans, lettuce and fresh tomato. The enchilada sauce was piquant and perfect. The tortillas were filled with shredded cheese bits. The beans were also just plain tasty - perfect consistency and no lardy taste. It reminded me of a plate you would get at a fancier Mexican sit down restaurant. If all this tasted so good at dinnertime, i can imagine it being amazing at 2 in the morning! My partner got a burrito. I asked on a scale of Amy's frozen burrito being a 1, and a Taqueria Santa Cruz (st johns) burrito being a 10, where would you rate a Javier's burrito, and he gave it a solid 8. Burp! They also had baked goods and flan, but I was way too full. Maybe next time! And yes the interior was basic, and the view of Lombard is nothing to write home about. BUT! it's harder to find decent cheap food anywhere these days and we spent less than $20.

Kristen V.

Yelp
Be careful ever ordering delivery from this place. This is the third time that they have just completely failed to add items that I ordered to my delivery. I ordered a chicken enchilada combo, a taco, and a burrito as well as asking for extra green sauce. Well, once again, I only received half the order and its just getting ridiculous. I ordered a $20 delivery and received only a burrito and a taco. No enchilada plate combo and ZERO sauce. It's just sad, because I live in the neighborhood and like to support local businesses, but the fact that they can NEVER deliver a complete order, I'm done with them. You're better off ordering Taco Bell delivery and getting your complete order, plus more. *UPDATE* they completely left out bacon and potatoes in my breakfast burrito as well. This is absolutely ridiculous. The entire order is completely inedible. An absolute waste.

Yelp
Cheap, large burritos, breakfast burritos any time - day or night. When I go here it's usually for a breakfast burrito. I haven't had any tacos or other items besides a torta, late one night, years ago. It wasn't the best. But the burritos can really give you a fill up. It's convenient if you are traveling on Lombard from Interstate Ave toward MLK or vice versa. I wouldn't go out of my way for it because there are other late night places closer to my house. But in that area, your choices are limited, and Javier's really fills a void.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
Nothing really special about the food kinda like Don Pedro's. Not really fresh some taste like it was just microwaved. Only good thing is they say they are open 24 hours. Out of hot sauce last time I went and no water in the water jug.
google avatar

Kalen S.

Yelp
Best cabeza tacos in Portland and their adobada and al pastor are both super tasty. Staff is very friendly, and of course they always open!
google avatar

Perla M.

Yelp
We ordered 3 different plates for work ..When the food arrived no salsas where provided no salt was provided. Our food was super blend and super tasteless. If you like food with no flavor and under cooked cactus this is the place for you .

Josh P.

Yelp
The best mexican food in all of Portland! I frequent this place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, not all in the same day of-course! Burritos are massive and not overfilled with rice like lots of places. Tacos are delicious. All the meat options are cooked wonderfully and cut well. My favorites are the al pastor and carne asada. I go through guilt phases where Ill eat vegan and luckily Javiers menu caters to veg diets. Lastly, their churros are the freshest in town. Delicious burritos and tacos Vegan friendly Delicious churros.
google avatar

Michele P.

Yelp
chili relleno - YUM Ordered through door dash, was super fast and so good.
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
I want this place to be awesome! I try and try! I pass it almost daily and it sounds so good. Unfortunately.... It never lives up to my minds standards. By the time I finish eating I regret my decision. The oil/grease left in the wrap confirms that this was not a good choice. I order a different burrito every time I go and nothing changes. They are all greasy and blah. They lack flavor and love. Yes, I said love. Food is supposed to be made with love! If the cook loves it, than everyone else should.... Bottom line--- I would pass on Javier's. There are better taco shops to hit up.
google avatar

Edna F V.

Yelp
Great food! 24/7 Each time I come from the airport, never fails! Ask for your crunchy or soft tacos with any meat! My favorite tacos tripe, carnitas, lengua, pastor... Plates: Chile's rellenos, caldo de res, caldo de pollo, plato de pollo asado! Omg! The champurrado is FABULOUS! It's a must!

Manny G.

Yelp
I work the night shift at DENNY's so I'm always looking for late night grub. Javier's Taco Shop always come through in the clutch!

Michael G.

Yelp
I found the food over priced, bland and lacking garnish. Low cost ingredients. Maybe if i was drunk I wouldn't care. Sounds harsh but this is the second time I've given it a try and is not worth the money. No hot sauce given both times, bummer. Better food elsewhere. (La Tia Juana)

Yelp
Second favourite of the late-night and cheap burrito joints. #1 favourite of the 24-hour Mexican restaurants and probably 24-hour restaurants in general, which are few and far between in Portland.
