I was craving some southern country comfort food and found the perfect spot. Chicken fried steak was delicious and huge. My food was served hot and steamy just how I like it. Best carrot cake I have ever ate. Awesome. The prices were reasonable compared to most restaurants. Free parking was a plus and a must because I stopped going to restaurants that charge me to park.

Great customer service and food is made to order fresh. My first time here but it will not be my last. Food is amazing.

What a great place to party and dance. We love Zydeco music. The food was great and reasonable. We will go again. I recommend Uber. Not to much parking available. Loved it.

Celebrating Lolita Birthday! Servicewas much better this time. The food was excellent. The live band was off the chain somewhere out of Thibodaux, Louisiana. They were a young group, but they were getting down their music. We had an excellent time!!

A pleasant and friendly neighborhood bar...food is ordered and paid for at a counter and later collected at the pickup point. The bar operates separately. The place is your basic no frills sports bar. We enjoyed the pork chops and the fish n chips..very generous portions at a reasonable price. The bar tab for 2 beers and a glass of wine was also very reasonable. If you're looking for good all round value, I can well recommend this place.

Dined here Friday night with 3 friends for the live zydeco music. I had grilled catfish tacos, rice, beans and a Green Tea alcoholic drink. Everything was good, but food needed more seasoning. Friend had fried catfish which was delicious. However, my other friend purchased the Gulf shrimp basket and seemed like the whole Gulf was in the shrimp because they had an overly fishy taste.

Delicious!! First time for me, and I love the place...had a cup of corn chowder and wish I had got the bowl it was that good. The Bang Bang Shrimp was a balance of sweet and spicy, and gravy for chicken strips was some of the best. Parking was easy. Order at the counter, then pick up your own food & and self-serve drinks...can tip at the register when you pay. Clean bathrooms & friendly staff. Looks like a full bar, but we didn't have alcohol. Prices are now a tad bit higher than what was posted on others' reviews.

This was my first time here but my wife and her cousins used to frequent for the Zydeco entertainment. The food was great as well as the pricing. We reserved the outside area after my nieces graduation and had about 40 or so in attendance. There was plenty of room on the patio so we didn’t use the inside at all, which had plenty of space as well. The service was fast and friendly so wait times for the food were minimal. I’m not sure what the live entertainment is these days but it’s a good place just to swing by for a good bite to eat and hangout. The drinks were also really good by the way. 💯💯💯💯💯

I've been here a few times. I tried the street Tacos. They're good the hamburgers very tasty and I would recommend their fish and chips. Staff very friendly safe environment.

Tried something new while in Houston. Was quite disappointed. The chicken and beef were flavorful, but dry. The rice and charro beans were bland. The Sunkist soda a was refreshing. I liked the retro arcade games here. Plenty of TVs to watch events. The staff were friendly. Plenty of Texas decor to go around! If I return, I'll have to try something else on the menu.

The salmon and 2 sides for 17.95 and tasty!! Lots of fried food, but value and taste is why we come there.

Love this location! It's definitely a chill and laid back place. Order at the counter and come get your food when the buzzer goes off. Food is good! I order queso and chips- yummy! Menu said blanco but it looked more yellow to me ?? I also ordered the stuffed potato with steak fajita. I forgot to take a pic because I was so hungry, but it had a mound of meat on top!! Tender potato, definitely a good value!

Great place with great vibes. I would say it's a great place to take a date or go with a group of adult friends. It may be too noisy for kids but if your kids do well with noise then all good. But the noise could just be at night, not sure about daytime. Food wasn't that bad but wasn't the greatest. It was comfort food. It gave that home cooked meal type feels or atleast what I had did. Maybe I'll try something different next time. I had the chicken fried chicken with fries. You order at the counter and they call your number to pick up. So no waiters or waitresses but there are workers who walk by to get dirty plates etc.

The food was fresh and plentiful. I enjoyed the choice of indoor and patio seating. The music was a plus and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely go back as the environment was pleasant, security was visible and the food was easy and more than enough.

Jax Grill is a very good place to eat. The food is very tasty. The service is minimal as it is basically self serve. The people are friendly and competent. The ambiance is noisy when busy and very casual. The prices are affordable. It is clean and well maintained. I like to eat there!

I'm going to say it's a BIG difference from a Friday visit to a Sunday visit!! The food on Sunday was bland with no taste. We ordered Chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes & Shrimp Quesadillas. The quesadillas were not warm, no favor and definitely not worth the price. The chicken fried chicken was so flat we thought it was a pancake. For the food was suppose to be cooked to order nothing was hot. For it to my friend first visit I know they will not be back. I really wish I had taken pictures of the food.

I would say no place is great, but... Jax is where it's at! Great Zydeco(live), Food, environment, and etc!!

I have eaten here many times for lunch with my crew. They have good burgers. Aside from the burgers , they have solid entrees , like pasta , red beans and rice, fried seafood. They have a wide selection, many options. Sometimes It's hard to make a choice! You can't go wrong here. Good food , fair price. I have no complaints. The service is quick too! Believe it or not , you could have a group of 4-5 and they will have your food ready in 10 minutes. I will keep returning here for lunch! -Santangelo Balli Gonzales

Definitely a good spot for drinks and food. It's a fun family environment with good music. It gets really packed on night of concerts and parking is scarce. Do not park in other lots with signs up because you will get towed. Otherwise enjoy!

The place was small and overcrowded. The food was good. The ambience was exciting! The Customer Service was Average.

Hadn't been here in years. The place was pretty spacious with the patio seating opened. Came on a friday and they had a band playing. Music was good but a little too loud. Had to yell to order my food. Ordering if fairly easy, and the lines move quick. I got a grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The chicken sandwich was great. It tasted seasoned and fresh. The fries on the other hand came out kinda soggy and were hard to enjoy. I like that their menu has some healthy choices in addition to the fried foods. This makes it a great spot for a gathering where everyone can find something to order according to their taste/diet.

I've passed this place hundreds of times. Finally decided to go in. Burgers are nice size, juicy meat, good flavor. Lots of fries! It was a Monday, very quiet, fast service.

The love music alone is will put you in a good mood, mix with some drinks from the bar, you've got party time to last all night. Now I myself have the palate of a toddler, so I got the chicken tenders and fries. The sauce I had I do not remember, but what I do know is it was good and I wanted more (gotta pay extra for that‍). The staff no matter who you met was so kind, fun, and personable. Felt like a family dinner, the only thing that makes you realize it's a restaurant is when they call out the order number on the speaker. I like to come here during lunch with my crew. Also, great music on Friday nights! A little small and crowded but I like that. Burger are excellent. Aside from the burgers , they have great entrees like the red beans and rice, fried seafood. Just wanted to stop by here and say thanks!

I'll start by saying I used to like this place. But tonight I ate there and it was horrible. I got the fish and chips. The fish was too greasy to eat. I used half the napkins on the table frying to get the grease out of a piece to eat.

I used to frequent this place back in the late 90s on Friday nights and always had a wonderful time listening to the live zydeco music and sometimes even getting on the dance floor. I have to say if anything this place has not changed and in my opinion is even better than what I remember. I was anticipating they would not have any healthier food items but they actually had a very good menu. Service was hard to rate because you place your order at the counter and pick up your own food and the music is so loud on Friday nights, it's really hard to hear the cashier but I feel that's pretty normal. They have Indoor seating at pub style tables and an outside patio with bigger tables if you have a bigger party.

Very yummy food! The service was good and fast and they don't have bad prices. Their grilled meats were super yummy!!!

Always a great place to eat or drink. The food is always fresh and tasty. The restaurant is large and comfortable for groups or couples. Service is always fast.

We ordered food Togo and they have great employees. Our time inside was good. The food is really hit or miss. I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo- good (off the dry erase board as a special soup), queso- good (but not Torchy's Taco queso good), chicken fajitas were good but the rice and beans were awful, I got the grilled fish - not so good and the vegetables were like wedding vegetables and that terrible rice, the dessert were good (cheesecake and Italian Creme Cake. I think this place has ok food and is just ok.

Delicious food at fair prices; everything I've tried has been yummy! Family style seating and live music makes it a fun experience. One of my favorite places to eat and hang out.

Decent service, substandard food. I got a Santa Fe chicken which was dry as Santa Fe, NM (maybe that's what they were shooting for?). The rice pilaf was utterly tasteless. Another in out party got a blackened chicken salad. It was way over cooked, even for blackened. Been a long time since I have gone there and it has gone way downhill. Will be a long time before I go back.

Was on this side of town and looked for places with fried fish. It was the middle of the day so it wasn't really busy nor empty which is interesting because the lot felt full. This suggests that on a really busy day parking would be tight. The ordering process was quick. The counter and menus are available soon after entry. So I ordered the catfish meal with came with fries, hush puppies and okra and grabbed a seat until the order was ready. It was a huge piece of fish. I wasn't expecting that much and should've paid more attention to the reviews/pics. Unfortunately, as large as it was, it didn't work for me. It wasn't fried consistently and had portions with too much breading and portions that were a bit slimy. I tried to drown it in hot sauce to help with the flavor that also lacked but that didn't help much. I also asked for no okra but got a ton of it anyway. The 2 small hush puppies were ok and the fries weren't memorable. I also noticed that it's one of those places with staff constantly cleaning but it doesn't help it look or feel cleaner. Meh. I might go back for a drink but that's about it.

I went to Jax purely to try the Captain Crunch Chicken Tenders and cannot recommend them enough. They tenders were crispy and delicious. The Captain Crunch added a delightful sweetness to the chicken tenders and tasted great with the white gravy. If I ever find myself back in Houston, I'll definitely be returning to Jax!

You'll get a well proportioned, beefy patty, richly seasoned and grilled to perfection. I had our order delivered and the french fries were hot and crisp, unlike the limp soggy fries delivered from most other restaurants. Thank you, Jax for doing it right !!

Very solid American food. There burgers, fajitas, fries, salad, soup, etc... You order at the counter and they call your number. Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich substituted sweet potato fries with regular fries. The chicken was marinated and juicy. The sweet potato fries were ok.

Idk how this amazing gem has a demeaning low rating. It's definitely incorrect. 5 stars! From the freshness of the food, to the absolutely amazing customer service. You cannot go wrong at Jax on Shepherd! The bar is one of my favorites in town PERIOD. Very family friendly and Zydeco on Friday & Saturday nights. It's doesn't get better than that! Gotta try the Rainbow Trout and say hello to Rosa, Raul or Juan if around. Awesome management!

I had really high hopes from this place, but left disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. I ordered a Jax burger, and it looked divine but upon further inspection the patty seemed like a frozen patty and was unseasoned. The fries were pretty mediocre too. I left only eating barely a few bites because it was just so bland.

The Bellaire strips and fries are crispy and delicious! The white gravy is the perfect complement.

went at 4 pm yesterday. they were busy but not too busy. most of the tables are for larger parties. asked to sit at the bar & was rudely told no by the bartender as they were moving all the chairs. there were 4 people who appeared to be regulars who were not asked to leave. one woman even had a dog at the bar. we would have been on the side away from the dance floor so not in anyone's way. the woman with the dog said to just ask for chairs & they would bring them out. obviously that was not the case. we went elsewhere. too bad for the bartender as we left a $30 tip on a $72 bill for the excellent service we had there. I have never written a bad review on here. so sad I had to do so now.

Love the food and the atmosphere. You order at the counter and pay. The cashier's are nice and very helpful. It's great for groups and they have a private room with no charge if and when it's available.

Good food for a great price! Solid menu, Awesome specials! Very friendly staff. Casual, bar, some video games, usually have sports on TV , outdoor patio. Live music, I think Friday and Saturday nights, not positive.

Called in an order of chicken fried steak to satisfy a craving. Been to Jax once before for nachos and CFK and remember it being affordable and fairly delicious. Located off Shephard, location is very convenient and parking as well. It's a fairly large restaurant though was pretty sparse when I went. Not a fancy restaurant, but a plain clean place for a good meal. Calling in the order was quick and efficient, didn't ask for more than a name and food would be ready in 15 min (super quick!). Plenty of parking once you get to the restaurant, counter up front got my name and my order was ready. Everything was packaged well, CFK wrapped in aluminum to keep it hot, seperate containers for mash and their signature gravy. The food was hot and delicious when I ate it at home - a bit too much breading on the CFK and meat could be more tender, but still a great meal for the value.

I ordered Shrimp en Brochette. It was ridiculously salty and overcooked. It was AWFUL. The veggies were ok. The bartender sold me beer. There was no ambience. My g/f got stuffed shrimp. It was disgusting. We're talking $17.95 each. Will NEVER GO BACK!

One thing is I did order for delivery, but I ordered tater tot's because the lunch was for my one year-old grandson who cannot chew french fries. DoorDash gave me a refund for the fries but when I called the restaurant all they could say was there sorry that happened to me. Someone needs to be checking the orders before they go out For delivery. My receipt clearly states tater tots.

Zydeco, Zydeco and Zydeco! It was such a good night for my mom and I on a Saturday night! My mom seen a Facebook posting and wanted to come. My mom ordered the shrimp basket and I order a bowl of gumbo. My mom was pleased with her shrimp basket and I was pleased with my gumbo. However, there was a few shells in it...but what we enjoyed the most was the zydeco. The band was great and I loved seeing people dancing!!

Decided on Jax's for my sister birthday. Nothing out of the ordinary. Great food ordered a cheeseburger was delicious, great mesquite flavor. Cooked fresh to order. Burning hot French fries delicious goodness. I guess I was hungry. Nice Zydeco band playing, will definitely return

I always enjoy the zydeco bands and the drinks, but I'm definitely not impressed with the food. Ordered the sirloin medium with baked potato and salad. The salad was the only thing that was right. My steak was over cooked and dry and all the toppings were missing for my baked potato. I'll definitely save my money next time.

Haven't been there for years but decided to try after renovation? I used to order chicken fried steak offen!!! Had to try and this did not remind me of the great meal I had on the past. Nothing in a good/great steak was there. Thin crusty batter covered a very thin pick of over cooked meat. Gravy had very little taste and not the consistency of creamy white gravy! Other menu item I saw people order looked pretty good. I'll give Jack's another try but order something other then what I had. Try to patronize restaurants in the area and will give Jack's another try, maybe soon.

Do NOT recommend. There are lots of options in the Heights and this is NOT a good one. For starters the TRump flag hanging on patio surprised us. Food was just ok - nothing spectacular or unique and definitely NOT worth the price I paid. The fries and onion rings tasted like they were cooked in old oil. The egg rolls were tasty but very greasy. I ordered the trout which had a good flavor but was very small and paper thin. This was served with a very bland rice pilaf. I ordered the fajita salad to take home for my spouse...again it was just "ok" and not worthy of a repeat visit. As for the ambiance,...We were very surprised to walk out on the patio to see a very large Trump 2024 hanging up - Sorry Jax - you get a HUGE and a definite NO go from this gal.
