Highlights

Jayna Gyro is a fast-casual restaurant with grab-and-go options, in addition to made-to-order menu items at approachable prices for the locals and tourists who flock to the busy Market. The menu features culturally inspired Mediterranean cuisine deeply rooted in Greek and Turkish traditions. One of their signature items, the chickpea sandwich for example, is a nostalgic dish from the owner’s childhood while growing up in Gaziantep. Other menu items include chicken Gyros, beef Gyros, and their signature Greek salad along with the traditional appetizers and accompaniments you would expect, from Dolmades and Spanakopita to Hummus and Tzatziki. Everything will be made fresh daily, including all of the meats using an on-site Gyro broiler, all in an open kitchen concept where guests can see exactly where their food is coming from.

Google
I went to check out Jayna Gyro in Emeryville because I love Tarla’s in Napa, CA. Jayna Gyro is located in The Public Market which has a common food hall/court. Public parking was free and easy to find a spot. There are a variety of cuisine options. Nestled amongst them all is Jayna Gyro. It was quiet when I arrived and I did not have to wait in line. I ordered the Beef & Lamb Gyro. The gyro was beautiful and snuggled up inside the box. I love the idea that there is something for everyone at this local spot!

Google
This place is right inside the food court. However, the food was 10/10. Super delicious. The meats were tender and juicy. The kunefe is to die for. I totally recommend this place 100%.

Raghav B

Google
Food 2 star, service 5 star. The falafel bowl was a sad affair. The falafel was so dry and flavorless, the salad was basically just shredded iceberg and one wedge of tomato with barely any dressing, and even the pepperoncini didn't have a vinegary zing. Rice and pita were alright. Service was great. I hope the owners see this review and try to improve their menu.

Google
Hummus was amazing, high quality ingredients and great value in a time when Macdonald’s tries to charge the same for literal processed garbage. My new fav spot! Can’t wait to try everything Meat was on the dry side and not as juicy as simply Greek (that sadly closed down) but the whole combo was still good. Would be awesome if the meat was better grilled

Google
Super fresh food!! And not heavily salty which is absolutely rare these days. Finished my salad + gyro bowl feeling very full and satisfied without being weighed down. This place is definitely a new favorite for me!!

Google
Best Baklava and Food The best Greek and Mediterranean taste in the area. I have tried their beef gyro and new chickpeas pita and they are amazing. I don't even need to mention the baklavas and Kunefe since it was the best ones that I've ever had in the United States. I would definitely recommend this place, there is almost no waiting time. Your order will be ready in just couple of minutes. I really like their to-go containers as well. It looks very professional.

Google
Really cool place. Seems like a lot of attention to detail and pride in their work by the staff. Healthy if you want to be but also unhealthy too if your got cravings! Try it out you won't regret it!

Mary

Google
We had chicken and lamb+beef wraps and they were both great! The lamb+beef had a bit of the fatty meat aftertaste but the chicken was flawless! I will definitely come back

Giovanny S.

Yelp
This was my first time here so I asked for the chicken gyro. Everything about this item was delicious! I loved the spicy aioli they add to the gyro as i don't like much spice and there was only a little kick to it which was tolerable for me. The food was served quickly. I was also able to find a seat quickly too despite it being busy. My only criticism is that the pita bread was so soft that it was falling apart because of all the ingredients it was trying to hold together. In the grand scheme, this isn't even so bad and actually was also a blessing as i loved the texture and temperature. 5 stars for the chicken gyro!

Yelp
It was my first time coming to Public Market in Emeryville and it was a cool spot with many food and drink options! I liked that they had pool, foosball, and other games there, it definitely made it a very family friendly spot. I chose to eat from Jayna Gyro, and I got a beef and lamb bowl with fries and pita. My brother ordered for me before I got there, so I didn't realize that the fries were really just roasted potatoes. That was my biggest gripe with the bowl, but I enjoyed everything else. The beef and lamb was thinly sliced with good seasoning and flavor. It was pretty tender and juicy and went well with their cabbage slaw. I liked how fresh everything tasted, from the slaw, to the tomato wedge, to the tzatziki, and the meat of course. The pita was standard, but was still good having a bite with everything else. The potatoes were just ok to me (maybe because I was expecting actual fries), but I did like the sauce they came with. My bf got the roasted chickpea lavash and he said it was okay, but needed more sauce to balance out all the chickpeas. Overall, it wasn't too bad for a quick meal and was relatively affordable too. Not sure I'd come back when there are so many other options to eat here.

Aracely M.

Yelp
I always order their roasted chickpea bowl and I think it taste really good. You have the option of rice or "fries". The "fries" which are actually roasted potatoes are also pretty good so no big deal that they aren't actual fries. The bowl itself is 5 stars! Their customer service, on the other hand could be better. I've encountered a young man every single time I've come there. I don't know his name. The times I've been there they are not busy, maybe 1-2 customers waiting for their order or no one at all. There is no type of greeting, he just ask what I want and gives me the disk pager after paying. Again, no exit- just walks away. When the pager buzzes the food is already on the counter- no bag. I always ask for one and he or the cook in the back gives me one. There is no verbal interaction at all, not even a smile. Due to the lack on any basic customer service I feel more like an inconvenience. Like another person commented, it is a very dismissive interaction. I don't visit much because of the service, which sucks because I really like that roasted chickpea bowl.

Clint T.

Yelp
Ali the Manager is the best, he will treat you right and you will end up friends outside this beautiful business. A great spot to eat!

Vanessa C.

Yelp
Workers didn't seem friendly. Minimal conversation--just wanted you in and out. Food was eh *personally*. The other reviews are great so I wouldn't deter you from trying. Ordered the chicken pita and just didn't think it had good flavor. Arugula overpowered everything. I thought the diced potatoes were going to be fries...again those didn't taste like much. When I went home I added lemon juice, cado de pollo seasoning, and garlic sauce to my food and it was soooooo much better. A little doctoring up did the trick!

Scott H.

Yelp
As always, the best Mediterranean food in the East Bay. The beef and lamb gyro is outstanding. The fries are always fresh and perfectly seasoned. Service can't be better, and the owner is awesome. Reasonable price, and be sure to sign up for the rewards program. I didn't get any this time, but their baklava is amazing. The public market is always a great place to eat, plenty of seating, and kept spotless.

Swapna Y.

Yelp
I didn't really appreciate the customer service. They weren't necessarily rude but the interactions from ordering to picking up the food felt very dismissive. I ordered the chicken gyro and it was good, flavorful, and light. It wasn't the best gyro I've had but def. solid in flavors. I also got the Kunefe dessert and that was also very flavorful and nice serving size.

Jack R.

Yelp
This review is strictly for their chocolate baklava. I bought this for my coworkers--- I chose this because it sounded interesting and delicious. Unfortunately, it tastes like mealy, cheap, not sifted chocolate powder drenched in syrup. It was so disgusting we each took a bite and threw it away. Complete waste of $11!!! It was over-priced and awful.

Samantha W.

Yelp
nice service and delicious food. it's in a food court with seating and a calm vibe - great place for a chill meal! the lamb and beef wraps were super tasty and fresh! we had to order again to take home more goodies.

Grace L.

Yelp
i tried the lamb and beef gyro and it was solid. this gyro had a bunch of greens and is definitely lighter than other gyros i've tried which i liked. it also had the perfect amount of sauce so it didn't overwhelm the other flavors. even though we ordered ~30min before their closing time, the ingredients in our gyro still seemed pretty fresh. the lamb and beef were thinly cut and tasted good. i felt the pita bread tasted a little weird though and was slightly tough their water tasted interesting. we asked for water cups, and the water they gave tasted super metallic. maybe i'm just not used to oakland tap water though. we ended up just buying their $3 bottled water

T H.

Yelp
The chicken gyro was so good with the perfect amount of tzatziki sauce but so full there was no way to pick it up. A couple of nights later I decided to get the bowl since I couldn't pick up the gyro, but it wasn't as good as the gyro probably because there wasn't as much tzatziki sauce. Given the choice again, I'd stick with the gyro.

David K.

Yelp
The Octopus Salad at Jayna Gyro has to be one of my favorite versions of this dish, period. It's made of a lightly dressed slaw of shredded cabbage, greens, and other vegetables, topped with a mixture of hot, spiced pieces of crispy octopus tentacle and chickpeas. The octopus and chickpea mixture was stunningly delicious and was a perfect complement to the crunchy, earthy slaw underneath. In addition, I also tried the Greek Salad, a preprepared salad of chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, red bell peppers, black olives, red onions, and cubes of feta, served along with a vinaigrette; and the Chicken Gyro Bowl, which came with spiced chicken gyro sliced from a rotating spit, topped with tzatziki and served with rice mixed with chickpeas, pita bread slices, a vegetable slaw, a tomato wedge, and a pickled pepper. Everything we had from this stall in the Emeryville Public Market was fresh, delicious, and came at a good value, but the Octopus Salad was the true standout.

Teena N.

Yelp
Located in the back right side, First time trying this place, didn't even know it existed. Cashier was friendly. Hummus $7.95 Pita bread cost $1 extra Lavash beef & lamb $13.95 Read a comment on the cooler drinks being warm, but I didn't have that problem when I came, my diet coke was ice cold. Also, saw that there was a combo? I must of missed that, I wish the cashier mentioned it. Would I come here again, yes. Next time I might ask for extra sauce on my gyro. I just wanted a little more omfpt. The pickled pepper went so well with the gyro, so I am happy it was given. Everything tasted fresh and good. I will definitely get the hummus again with the pita bread .

Quincy H.

Yelp
Miss Claudia and her team were so professional and on point! The food served was so awesome and great tasting. I recommend this shop to anyone that is in the area even if you're not in the area I would say come down just so you can experience that highest level of professionalism and great tasting food in the bay area! Great job you guys I'll be back :-)

Michelle C.

Yelp
My first visit to Jayna! I tried the lamb and beef gyro with side of potatoes and the rice pudding. The gyro and potatoes were pretty good. Portion of the gyro was huge! Service was very friendly and nice!!! What took it up a whole star for me was the AMAZING rice pudding!!! My only critique is that it could be better with a bit more rice, but overall this is one of the best rice puddings I've tried. Not too sweet, creamy and custardy heeeaven! Twas delightful!!! (Chef's kiss!) I'd come back to try other items and for suuuuure that dreamy pudding!!!

Daniel M.

Yelp
Great food. Workers are friendly. Wasn't to busy during my visit so food came out quick

Martin V.

Yelp
First time here at the Public Market while the Tesla is supercharging. Their beef and lamb gyro was so delicious! I ordered both the pita and the wrap. Their meat is very juicy and flavorful. The aioli sauce is top notch and definitely enhances the flavors. This is by far the best gyro I've had yet. Definitely coming back here for more.

Alex H.

Yelp
Located inside the Emeryville Public Market food court at the end. Quick and friendly service!! We came in 10 mins before closing and the guys at the counter were very receptive and patient with our questions. I ordered the chicken gyro bowl with extra salad (7.5/10) and it was flavorful! The portion is large and I almost wasn't able to finish it.

Melinda B.

Yelp
great food presentation. I enjoyed eating the gyro with my eyes before tucking in. Super delicious and the public market is a nice place to sit eat and relax.

Bryan P.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Great service for public market! I got a lamb burger and it was one of the best lamb burgers I tried! Would recommend!

Jessica A.

Yelp
Great, fresh food with amazing service! I got the chicken gyro bowl. It was fresh and tasted very clean! Will definitely return when I'm in the area next. Don't miss it!

Daniela N.

Yelp
Food here is amazing. Is our go to every time we visit public market. Highly recommend the beef/lamb gyro bowl and their lentil soup. Radio price:portion is acceptable.

Mackenzie M.

Yelp
This place has the best food and service! Ali is always so kind and generous. My go to spot for lunches!

Yonatan S.

Yelp
Legit best spot in the public market! Always fresh ingredients, and Ali makes sure to hook it up!

Justine O.

Yelp
This is the first spot I've ever tried at the Emeryville Public Market, and it was pretty good. The dining at the Public Market is basically cafeteria style, so you and your friends could eat at different places but sit at a table together. I went at around 7 pm on a Saturday, and it was pretty easy to get seats for two. I ordered the roasted chickpeas pita, which came out quite quickly after ordering. The food was delicious, though I wish it were more flavorful. They included a banana pepper, which was great because it added some tang and spice to an otherwise monotonous meal. The veggies were also quite good, and I finished my meal feeling satisfied but not saturated.

Daniel C.

Yelp
We were ordering several lunch plates at the Emeryville Public Market since our toddler is going through a picky eating phase. Jayna looks like a healthy option and is similar to many fast-casual Mediterranean places like Yalla's, Gotta Eatta Pita, etc. Unfortunately, they ran out of kid plates that day. We ordered a regular chicken gyro rice bowl. Flavors are decent, but we did find the chicken on the saltier side. Our toddler did not seem to be a big fan either. Besides the chicken gyros they also offer gyros made of beef and lamb, along with several dessert options and more exotic dishes like Octopus Salad! For that reason, I may be willing to give them a another try.

Bernard C.

Yelp
Jayna Gyro is located in the Public Market, a nice food court area in Emeryville with 20-30 restaurants. It's a good place to go in general if you have a large group of friends and you're not really sure what to eat or if you just want to have options. Jayna Gyro specifically has quite good Gyros. They are on the slightly more expensive side, but it's well worth it. The meats are juicy, and the toppings are a refreshing addition to the savory filling and pita. I enjoyed both the chicken and chickpea gyro; I definitely recommend getting one of these if you came to check this place out.

Chris M.

Yelp
Jayna gyro is one of the (many) great options at Emeryville's Public Market - a large dining hall with lots of food stalls. I usually get one of the lavash options (beef & lamb is excellent) and I have yet to be disappointed by the final product. The reasons for the 3-star review are two-fold: 1) the food is quite expensive (though factoring in labor, inflation, etc, not necessarily worse than many other restaurants in the area). Still, that being said, quality is generally great. 2) the service. One of the two gentleman who often takes orders is, unfortunately, pretty rude (to be fair, the other is very polite). This gentleman essentially never says a single word, and is quite curt. If I am spending $17 (on a gyro or wrap, I feel as though it's really not asking much to have someone say "hello" and/or "thank you" (or god forbid - smile). I finally felt compelled to write this review because I actually *really like* this restaurant, and if not for the fact that every interaction with this person is pretty unpleasant, I would probably go there more often. Whether you care more about the food or service, hopefully that information is helpful

Mike M.

Yelp
"Fries" are actually roast potatoes. Annoying. I know it's a small thing to complain about but when you get soft cubes of potatoes when you want fries, it disappoints.

Nick R.

Yelp
We have been frequent flyers at Jayna since they opened their Emeryville location - it's safe to say nothing has changed over the past 3 and a half years! A weekly stop we always enjoy - the food, service, and vibe are top notch. 10/10, 5 stars, top rating - highly recommend!

Skye H.

Yelp
The guys that work there are super nice and friendly, great customer service. They have lots of options and are good about accommodating for any anything you'd want to switch out. The foods always good and the chicken gyro bowl is a great fulfilling and balanced option

Mackenzie O.

Yelp
Service and Food are amazing! love this place and is a regular stop for lunch, the staff is very kind and helpful, I highly recommend this place to anyone who visits the public market.

Christian H.

Yelp
Great fresh food! Speedy and friendly service. Absolutely love their beef and lamb gyro as well as the chicken!!

Ray A.

Yelp
Great place to eat, the greek fries are honestly amazing!!! Ali is the best, great customer service, always has a great attitude!! I recommend 10/10!!

Vi T.

Yelp
Not a lot of fast-serve food venues serve grilled octopus salad, and especially in a gyro spot. Tried it for the first time at this venue today. Verdict: healthy and nicely balanced ingredients, though it would have been better with a vinaigrette dressing. The octopus was freshly grilled to order (wait time is about 10 to 15 minutes) and was cooked to a nice consistency and texture. It wasn't rubbery at all, but quite tender on the inside with nice light char on the outside. There was quite a heaping of chickpeas too, which made it quite filling. I'm not sure if they forgot to include a dressing sauce with my order, but it was still tasty overall. I would order this again the next time I'm hankering for some grilled octopus. Total is about $16 before tax. They have a rewards program too that you can sign up for via phone number.

Natalie L.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for mediterranean food and gyro, so Jayna Gyro is my go-to whenever I'm at this food court. In my opinion, their food isn't exactly mind-blowing, but it's always perfectly satisfying and tasty. My favorite so far has been the chicken gyro wrap, which came with some of my all-time favorite ingredients: tzatziki sauce and arugula! The cabbage salad that was also in the wrap made it more refreshing, as did the tzatziki. As for service, I've gotten a bowl before and asked for fries, but the cashier misheard me and thought I said rice. When I went to tell her after seeing I had rice, a cook/maybe a manager ended up just giving me some fries free of charge! My bad; my tip is that if you want fries, just tell them you want potatoes lol. But the cashier has always been nice, and I appreciate that they didn't hesitate to make a (pretty apologetic) customer happy!

Craig G.

Yelp
Located in the Emeryville food court. Man it's been 2-3 years since I've been there. In addition to Janay, several other nice looking eateries are now open inside and they have pool table, shuffle board, etc for folks to pass the time on a rain soaked winter day. Not only that, enough variety that a family can get what they want and still share a family meal. Well this place struggled for some years but we went on a weekday evening and it was packed! Service is what you would expect from a casual dining spot. They provide you a beeper so you can meander and look for a good spot to chow down. Must say the portions are abundant! Bae got gyro salad, me the gyro pita. The pita might has well been a salad... it was choked full of fresh veggies. I had to eat several bites before I braved picking that sucka up. The lamb/beef meat was plentiful, but didn't pack that salty lamby crunch. Perhaps my order happened after some lucky person got those crispy crackling browned pieces that get nice n hot closest to the heat on the rotating spit exuding all those succulent juices. Or maybe it's by design that there weren't 'extra crispy bits along with the more lean interior. Bae said the fries were really yummy. Great value for the price. I just wish the meat had more of that briny pungent lamb kick and garlicky lemony oregano spice profile. Thats what made me a gyro fan way back in Mykonos, washed down with ouzo n ice. Oooppaaaah!

Eugene L.

Yelp
Baller on a budget Friday!!!! Who's going to Check Me Boo????? Certainly not you Fool!!!! I'm gone with the Wind Fabulous!!!! I was Rolling around Emeryville and decided to stop by the Public Market Place and Check out the Eateries there. Up popped Jayna Gyros . They are located right in the Middle of the Market Place. Since it was Dinner time . I perused their Menu and Ordered a Beef and Lamb Gyro Bowl with French Fries . I paid by Credit Card and was given a Pager to alert me when my Meal was Ready!!! 10 minutes later my Pager Alerted!!!! I picked up my food and rolled to my table!!!! I Opened my Bowl and was quite Pleased to see a well Constructed Gyro Bowl !!!! Portions were Good Sized and Visually appealing.!! A Multitude of Flavors !!! Delicious!!! Service is Friendly and Efficient!!! For all these reasons this is a Baller on a Budget Approved Establishment!!!!

Christine F.

Yelp
Be prepared go get your hands dirty if you're getting the pitas! I got the beef and lamb gyro and they don't play around with portion sizing! Everything was well seasoned and I was surprised they gave banana chili peppers since I typically never see these in this cuisine. I eventually got a fork to get all the meat that fell off, but definitely was a tasty dish. Would love to come back to here to try other dishes!

Fenasi K.

Yelp
Their portions got smaller. Your bowl would come with potatoes, now they sell it. They put less gyro/döner. Their salad had more greens, now its full of red cabbage. When you make it a combo (fries and drink for $5) the potatoes in your bowl is the fries you get! Their open cooler does not even cool off the drinks. Pick your warm drink! I don't drink warm soda, do you? I was a regular here. I would always get four orders, twice a week sometimes 3. That's 8 to 12 orders a week, around $500 a month. Smaller portions and not satisfying combo made me not come here anymore. If I go to Public Market I eat at Super Duper.

Magda M.

Yelp
Got the bowl with fries and beef/lamb. Was quite fast and tasty. The aioli was especially flavorful. Would try this spot again if I was around Public Market. Definitely one of the best spots in this food hall!

Morgan W.

Yelp
Fast casual gyro spot in the Emeryville Public Market hall. They have the Black Sheep vegetarian lamb that I love!!!! but sadly it cannot be added to bowls, only burgers. Their roasted chickpea bowl was the nourishing thing that I needed after an afternoon of pickleball; it's piled high with seasoned chickpeas, greens, tomatoes, red onions, and tzatziki. Also, the guy at the counter was nice and laughed at my bad joke, so that's worth a star.

Shereen S.

Yelp
I am a big fan of their Greek salad. I usually get gyro meat on the side but would be interested to try their chickpea gyro since sometimes I take a break from meat. Super nice people - all interactions have been great. A little pricey but that's everywhere all at once right now

Michelle E.

Yelp
Beef and lamb gyro was just fine, but nothing phenomenal. Jayna is part of a main food hall of restaurants in Emeryville, much like those at San Pedro Square in San Jose. Lots to offer, but somehow forgettable. The hall barely had any people and made me wonder how these businesses with 38 different menu items could afford to stay open in these times. Back to the food. It's nicely instagrammable. Taste wise, something was missing to help elevate it with an exclamation point. Paired with the very empty and bare cafeteria scene, the experience was just meh.

Angelica W.

Yelp
I had the roasted chickpeas bowl for the first time and it was amazing! the customer service was outstanding as well and the staff was very friendly!!!! I will recommend this location to everyone!!!! Not even gassing it up, lol!

Melanie D.

Yelp
For the average of 4 stars for this restaurant, I am very confused. The employee saw I was in line to order and didn't even acknowledge I was there. Finally, he took my order. I ordered a chicken gyro bowl. The chicken was SO DRY with ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR AT ALL! I took 2 bites and was done with it. Disappointing for a bowl that cost $15. It's a no for me at this spot. Pick another spot at Public Market!

Al L P.

Yelp
Didn't like the way the gyro was build. Reminded me of a tostada. I like my gyro rolled like a cone. Meat was dry. French fries were actually diced roasted potatoes.

Sundar T.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! My go-to lunch spot always. Ali is the coolest ask for him he'll take care of you!!

Nadia I.

Yelp
Stopped by here yesterday. I ordered the Greek fries with feta ($5) and kunefe ($7). You can order in person, by phone or online. I ordered online while physically present at the public market. The order was ready approximately 17 minutes later. The fries are actually roasted potatoes, not fries at all. I wanted and was expecting fries but either way, the potatoes were very tasty. I requested a side of aioli and side of hot sauce which I think went very good with the potatoes (although most of the aioli spilled my the bag). The potatoes were cooked well, seasoned very well and I would order them again. I am not sure what their loaded fries come with but I imagine that they are as good and possibly better than this item. The kunefe was disappointing. I had it here once before so I thought it would be ok but it was so lack luster that after a few bites I couldn't go on. Despite being present as soon as my order was ready, the kunefe was not warm, it didn't seem fresh. The cheese inside was cold and a little difficult to eat, the top wasn't crunchy at all. Maybe it was cooked earlier and sat around? I'm not sure what happened here but I would not order this here again. My sister hasn't had kunefe before; I wouldn't even let her taste this because I didn't want this to be her first experience of it. TLDR: The potatoes were great even though they are called fries. The kunefe was horrible. I'd return to try some of the other items here based on the potatoes being good but I will likely skip dessert.

Cyn T.

Yelp
I popped in to Emeryville's Public Market to see what new eats they had. I decided to give Jayna Gyro a try. I ordered the beef and lamb Gyro bowl with fries. It was just okay. The fries were cold, so I had to wait for hot ones. My Gyro meat got cold by the time my fries arrived. Ugh
