Spicy, sweet, smoky jerk chicken & pork, homemade patties & stews

"Hype is only irresistible if said thing is worth it. JB’s jerk pork is. Pork belly chunks, glistening fat, and jerk-infused crackling that’s best gobbled on the pavement make it so. There are a couple of little tables and chairs inside this Caribbean spot that’s become a Peckham institution, but all you really need is £10 and a spot to squat to enjoy anything from JB’s smoking drum. "London isn’t lacking in jerk options, but it is when it comes to the two cs: consistency and char. JB’s has no problem with either of these. The little takeaway-cum-restaurant off Peckham High Street cooks jerk full of spice, sweetness, and a welcome hit of smokiness. The Jamaican classics are all homemade, from patties to stews, and it’s the kind of place you can happily swing by alone or make a detour to pick up something ludicrously tasty." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley
"There’s much to love about this little Caribbean spot off Peckham High Street, from the mischievous twinkle in the eyes of its staff to the irresistible smokiness of its jerk pork. A large meal here (which translates to a Tupperware-cum-trough) will cost a tenner. The chicken is tender with a hint of char and on its best days, the jerk sauce combines the sweetness of BBQ with a serious hit of scotch bonnet." - jake missing, rianne shlebak
"“According to Google Maps, JB’s Soul Food is 9.1 miles by bicycle from my flat. I can cover the distance in anything between 45 and 75 minutes depending on traffic, and the reason I know this is that I made this journey quite a few times in 2021 to get myself a portion or three of their spicy, sweet and smokey jerk. It’s probably the single serving of food I’ve thought about the most this year.” — OJF" - oliver feldman, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
