JC Seafood (formerly Simply Seafood)

JC Seafood is both a seafood market and restaurant. Tons of fresh fish, shrimp, crab legs, scallops, oysters, etc. I ordered the flounder basket for around $12. Two huge pieces of fried flounder with hushpuppies on the side (tartar sauce included). Everything was on the greasy side, but tasty as heck and fulfilled my fish craving. I was able to enjoy my meal in the back on a picnic bench under some gnarly trees. - Only downside: my fiance mentioned the bathroom was run down ragged and contemplated avoiding it haha. Still, I'm not there for the bathroom - Food & Service were on point

After a day at the beach, we wanted a laid back seafood shack! JC Seafood had excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. The fried okra was the best we’d ever had and the shrimp was excellent. The scallops were iffy-I am not sure if they were 100% scallops (may have had some filler which was disappointing but I am NOT positive). The owner was incredibly friendly and efficient as it was a busy day! There is not indoor dining but there are a few picnic tables if you’d like to eat outdoors. I believe many people order carryout.

Do not miss this place! If you love hole in the walls - this is what you live for! He made me a custom crab cake sandwich with no peppers. Everything my family ordered was fresh and incredible. Picnic tables under huge SC live oaks was a true SC coastal moment. We came for lunch and will go to beach and come for dinner before traveling home to Columbia. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE.

WOW! The snow crab boil had us feeling primal! What an absolute treat. Expect to wait unless you call ahead, but it is SO worth it. Great hospitality and flavor! MUST TRY!

Flew in from Austin, TX and this is the first place we stopped. Really happy we made the stop and got to meet the owner/cook as well. They were super quick and we enjoyed the meal. Ran into a local there as well so you know even the locals love it. Would highly recommend stopping by here!

We are from Colorado and come to SC to visit family. Whenever we are here we love going to JC seafood. We can't get fresh shrimp at home. We got some seafood plates this last time and they were amazing too. Real down home cooking. If we didn't live so far away we'd eat/shop here all the time.

While vacationing on Kiawah Island, our taste buds craved some fresh seafood and stumbled upon this jewel. The food was AMAZING!! Everything was freshly cooked and served hot. The customer service was friendly as well. We will definitely revisit.

We love the fresh fish at Simply Seafood. Joe Cheddar always helps us select the best and tastiest options at an affordable price. We purchased flounder yesterday and baked it with pesto, lemon, olive oil and tomatoes. It was excellent. Always great service at Simply Seafood! Joe is so friendly and helpful! 5 stars!

Got 1 order of the Cajun garlic shrimp boil! Comes with 2 corn cobs, potatoes and sausage! We got Cajun garlic butter! Has some kick! Got 1 order of the garlic snow crabs and shrimp! Awesome food! Enough to share one order or for 2 meals! 5 STARS! No doubt!

It's called JC"s seafood now. They have wide range of raw seafood for sale as well as cooked. They get spot if traffic also. 5 or more sides available with meals. He even has homemade sauces. Butter sauces are decent. I had a choice of three seafood and s side of large shrimp. The trip comes with regular sized. Jumbos come with requested orders. There also pretty fast. I think them and blackbird are the only ones doing seafood on the island. My only problem is what the fried scallops. They need to work on their breading. By the time you open up to eat them all the breading is completely off. Very frustrating. But I will definitely be back.

This place is a must stop if you're the Charleston Metro area. It's off to the side of the road so you might miss if you're not paying attention to the addresses visually. 5/5 Oysters were fresh crispy all by themselves hot sauce and tartar sauce just took it up a notch. Bread, lettuce and tomato were fresh. 5/5 Mac and cheese : cheesy but not overly cheesy. Slightly kind of reminds me of Soul Vegetarian's macaroni and cheese in Atlanta and Chicago. 5/5 fries hot ,cooked and salted on point 5/5 owners: inviting ,funny and just a pleasure to around I can see why the people with Ozzie Smith took him to this restaurant. Definitely check them out!!!

Visiting from NJ. Passed by on the way to visit the angel oak. Scallop and shrimp platter fried- red rice and okra was phenomenal. My friend got the oysters and flounder and omg! Highly recommended. Order at the counter eat at picnic tables style. Loved it!

This place is NICE! Very unassuming exterior, but great service and selection of raw seafood. This is the definition of a Mom & Pop restaurant, but with a Father & Daughter. They are very friendly and helpful. They are fulfilling your order with the fresh seafood on display! There is a little wait after ordering since it's made to order, but well worth the wait! I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Charleston.

I have been to Simply Seafood 3 times now. Crab legs are one of my absolute favorites and SS's snow crab platter is the jam. They pour herby butter over crab legs, potatoes, corn, shrimp and sausage and it is divine. My husband is a huge fan of a lowcountry boil so I get the shrimp platter for him. We've also ordered bushels of oysters and they were delicious and insanely clean. Glad to have Simply Seafood close by!

This place is amazing. Ordered the Cajun garlic butter snow crab and shrimp platter. Everything was perfect. Even the potatoes and corn..... And don't sleep on the sausage. It was great too. We drove 45 min one way to pick It up and it was still hot when we got it home. Worth the price and the drive.

I ordered the seafood platter. I was craving crab legs and shrimp. This order covered the bill. I enjoyed my meal. The crab and shrimp where cooked well. I didn't like the butter sauce as much but had enough food to be safe for the next day. The person who answered the phone for my order was very nice and they work with delivery services to offer delivery. I look forward to trying more.

Took an Uber down to see the Angel Oak while visiting Charleston. On the way back, to avoid calling an Uber to a 'park' down a dirt road in the woods, we decided to walk to a local restaurant I found after yelping 'shrimp'. The walk was a little precarious because it's a busy road and there aren't sidewalks the whole way. The place itself is a walk up with picnic tables outside. It would be nice if they put a couple tables inside but they have a fish market and that may require different inspection and licensing. We placed our order with the owners mom- she told us. Super nice and helpful lady. We got the fried shrimp and flounder with battered onion rings and French fries. Everything was DELICIOUS! Dare I saw the best shrimp I had in Charleston and I had shrimp at least 5 times while we were there. If you are in the area for fantastic seafood take out, or if you are looking to buy some fresh seafood to cook yourself, GO HERE.

Our go-to sandwich spot is now closed on Saturday, so we ventured to Simply Seafood. This hole-in-the-wall shop sells fresh seafood as well as cooked to order, mostly fried, seafood. You can also buy lowcountry boils and platters here. I ordered online and had a very short wait inside the shop. I spent the time looking at the fresh seafood and specials- and taking photos for Yelp. This is a local's spot that supports local sports teams, schools, and businesses. You'll even find rows of business cards near the register. My orders were prepared as I requested and included all sides and sauces. My car smelled wonderful for the 10-12 minute drive home, and it sure was tempting to dig into those takeout boxes. The sauces are packaged, but you won't use much of them, so it's not a deal breaker. The scallops were melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the macaroni and cheese was rich and reminded me of family reunions and church potlucks. The shrimp and fish were fried crispy to perfection. I wouldn't order the hushpuppies again, as they do not contain onions or peppers. The other sides just outshine them, so go with something else. Prices are reasonable for the portion size, but not exceptionally large. I had the pick two seafood platter and my husband had the pick three platter, and we were satisfied. Don't expect to have leftovers, but fried seafood tastes better fresh anyway.

Visited Simply Seafood for lunch. Small little place on Maybank, JI. It's easy to miss it if you're not watching for it. The place was not really busy at the time, I was able to get in and out pretty quickly. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I did a take out order of shrimp tacos. Got 3 shrimp tacos for just over $13.00. It's probably the best shrimp tacos that I ever had. Also got a side of mac & cheese, which was a warm and creamy delight. This place has a pretty extensive menu, so there are a lot of first-time choices. I will definitely be back trying other items on the menu!

Good shrimp and fish, nice hard working people. Reasonable prices. You order on line and pick it up in 15 minutes and it's hot.

Staying on Johns Island this weekend, and the plan was to hit up the food trucks set up outside of Estuary Brewing. Unfortunately the food trucks didn't have any great seafood options, so our friends we're staying with took us here to get dinner instead. Gotta say I was pretty pleased with this place. It appears to be family ran, and they were so friendly! The prices were not bad either. You come inside and they have many options on display, from shrimp to scallops to salmon to blue crab. You can either take it home to prepare or they will make it on the spot for you to take away. We did the shrimp boil with Cajun seasoning, which was huge and more than the two of us could finish. Our friends each got fried shrimp baskets, which looked great too. We had a side of hush puppies also, but be warned-they're on the small side so maybe get a double order. All told, this place is great and if we lived here, I'd come in all the time.

The owner, Joe Chedder and his wife run the operation. They're really nice people from Johns Island. Mostly fried, fresh seafood. All exceptionally good. Joe has some great recipes and tricks on making some really good meals. My favorite is the fried clam and fried shrimp combo. I just love them.

I've been here before and enjoyed a fried shrimp basket, but my husband and I stopped in for a shrimp and crab legs seafood boil with garlic butter and dang. It was so darn good and the perfect sized meal for my husband and I to share. I do wish I knew what days the fish came in fresh and made sure we got the very freshest, but hey. Beggars can't be choosers. Still super tasty and reasonably priced!

Tonight we decided sort of late to get Simply Seafood- we called about 30 min before they closed. We had a whiting sandwich and flounder platter- sides were salad and corn. The salad is very fresh with lettuce, tomato and cucumber. The corn has a garlic parsley butter on it- really good!!

I think you could drive right by this place and not even notice it. If that happens, you'd be really missing out! Not only are they serving some really good food out of here, it's also a seafood market with some great stuff you can't get just anywhere around here. Prices are very fair as well. We got the garlic butter crab and shrimp boil and were super impressed with the portion size but also the taste of everything! It was so good we already can't wait to come back for more and try everything else they have. The two people running it are very friendly and appreciate your business.

How does one truly evaluate a take-out only restaurant? Well, let me try. My wife and the oldest boy knew exactly where this new seafood restaurant was located as we enjoyed JB's SmokeHouse previously and were shocked when it shut down. This new place has added some paint on the outside of the building and changed a bit of the inside to accommodate some stand-up refrigeration units and some flat and open units for iced down fish. I even saw some packaged conch. So many many years since I have tasted conch fritters that I might have to come back just for that to take home and prepare. As to my seafood (fried shrimp and fish) it was quite tasty when I got home, but the big problem is that traveling for a couple of miles with fried seafood in a styrofoam container leads to one thing which is somewhat soggy seafood. The fish was so large that I frankly could have eaten just that. The shrimp also was fried with a bit too much of an increase in batter for my particular tastes, although not thick, it still takes away a bit from the taste of the large shrimp. All in all quite enjoyable and yes, I will return. It actually is smart on their part make this place take out only. Many smaller restaurants do that. It also keeps any problem of, and takes out of the equation, of not having seating for you when you want to eat in. No dirty tables or chairs for the quite friendly and helpful staff to worry about.

Found this little spot awhile back on a trip to Charleston. We are always looking for quaint or local spots to try when we visit. This one is a keeper! We didn't realize the portion size the first time we stopped by and ordered WAY too much! Our favorite is the Cajun Seafood boil(without crab). It's just delicious!! I also have to order the fried flounder- must have a bite of that too. Always great service! And Picnic tables are close by to enjoy your meal right on site. It's a must stop when we drive through the area.

Ate here on a whim Friday night bc I prefer hole in the wall type places. Got the flounder and fries to go. Amazing. So amazing that I came back today for lunch and got the red snapper and fries. So so good. Yes it's not fancy and it's very much a hole in the wall, but that's how you know it's good. This will be my go-to place when around Charleston now! Cannot recommend this place enough. If you're expecting something fancy and not fried, then go to Charleston there's more for you there.

I got the oysters, shrimp and flounder. Everything was hot and fresh. The place, although a "hole in the wall" was very cleaned and has a nice, fresh smell. The raw seafood for sale was fresh and bright and the food was delicious. I will be back when in the Charleston area.

On the way to The Angel Tree spotted this place and after visiting needed lunch asap. Hitting up seafood in the area boom Simply Seafood popped up. Pulling in was a unassuming building with a quiet area with 3-4 wooden tables outside. Fresh seafood is offered for sale as well as a menu for cooked food. After asking a few questions and letting the gal behind the counter know it was my first time she walked me through the menu. A Shimp boil was ordered that comes with corn, sausage and potatoes. Asking if sauces were wanted sure Garlic Cajun (extra dollar) total came to about twenty. At this point wasn't really sure what to expect? About fifteen minutes later watching people walking in/out for take out orders was presented with mine! The top was lifted and the words " come to mama" flew out of my mouth", she laughed. Purchase was placed in a large brown bag and was hitting that picknick table quick. Food was delicious a bit spicy but not over kill. Get extra napkins you will need them even with a fork. I was able to get two full meals out of this and would easily feed two. Will happily come back next time in the area.

This place is an absolute rip off. I ordered a 3 item platter of fried oysters. sauteed scallops, and sautéed flounder. Aside from forgetting the oysters the portion size was minuscule: 4 small scallops and a tiny thin flounder filet. $22.85 with tip.

Great place to grab some good lowcountry grub. We've gotten the platters for our family and for parties. You can grab food to go and eat outside at the picnic table too (just bring some bug spray!)

This place is delicious!! Hole in the wall fish market and take out lunch/dinner. We ordered take out & ate at the picnic tables. We had high expectations based on reviews and it exceeded them. The shrimp boil with garlic butter was out of this world. We also had fried clams, shrimp & scallops, fried flounder and the salmon salad. All perfection! Nice staff as well. Can't wait to go back.

We stopped in on our way home. First and last time dor me. I had the flounder poboy with fried okra . Yea, I know thats very bad for you but ill be exercising tomorrow AM. My wife had the platter with shrimp and flounder. The flounder was mushy ( I don't think thats's the way it's supposed to be. ). The flounder was also flavorless. Too many of the frozen okra. The fried shrimp was pretty good though bot very flavorful coating . Coleslaw was 7/10. Sorry wish I could say more but the food is was it is. NOT to my liking.

We are here on vacation and saw the good reviews. The Best fried clams I have ever had!!! They were so tender and fried to perfection! It's not a fancy place, and the only tables are picnic tables outside, but if you are a fan of seafood, you will not regret coming here. We loved the sides, too! Great fried okra, hushpuppies, greens, and more!

Me and my husband's favorite place to get fresh seafood and at the same time order something. Their food is always hot, fresh and delicious. I've been here a couple of times and never was I disappointed. My husband and I's go to order is their seafood boil. Oh gosh, their serving is a winner. Me and my husband would share one and we will still have some leftover which i use on pasta the next day. This is the best quantity and quality I get for my $27 and I loveee it!

Product and Attitude. I generally produce my own seafood, but when I'm in a tight, Simply is close to my home and presents a Good Product and a good attitude.

Great food. Seafood boils are wonderful! Mostly a take out restaurant but they do have some outdoor picnic tables you can enjoy your food at.

IF YOU ARE IN/NEAR THE CHARLESTON AREA YOU MUST STOP HERE!!! The food is absolutely incredible. We stayed in John's Island and found this place on Yelp and decided to stop in and check it out. We ended up leaving with a crawfish boil and shrimp/snow crab boil. We did one Cajun style and one with garlic. HOLY GUACAMOLE it was incredible. Not to mention the customer service was amazing. Joe Cheddar was so nice and made sure the food was perfect before we left. It was so good we went back again tonight!! Don't miss this absolute gem!!

Best food ever. Best people ever. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Both the cooked and fresh fish are absolutely amazing. Cant rave enough about this place , out of state or in state you have to come by!! Will definitely be back! Maybe a few times just this trip too :)

Doesn't get much better than fresh and delicious seafood that is perfectly seasoned. Great prices, super helpful and friendly staff. We all more than enjoyed every bite! Cannot wait to go back.

We stopped at Simply Seafood to grab a quick lunch before heading to the Tea Plantation. We didn't realize until we arrived that it has no inside seating but eating in the car is no problem if the food is good. The food was fantastic! Delicious and perfectly cooked shrimp, fish, oysters, and onion rings. Good coleslaw. Very nice, helpful owners. We will be back to buy raw seafood to take home for cooking. The selection was super fresh and plentiful. No fishy smell or questionable seafood. We'll be back!

We like their Bang Bang Shrimp Sandwich. I prefer to order ahead online because when you call in they ask for pre-payment over phone and want ALL the credit card information (zip code, CCV--everything--which doesn't seem very secure) rather than just pay when you get there.

This is a great local spot for seafood. I had a platter with fish, shrimp, onion rings and green beans. I also had a side of hush puppies. My favorite part was the shrimp. Everything tasted fresh and didn't feel greasy even though everything was fried. The customer service was also great. I will definitely be back to try to boil

Wow! This building is easy to miss but don't! Authentic low country boil. Absolutely delicious. The owners are so nice and gave great recommendations. Ordered the garlic shrimp and snow crab boil. Awesome! The potatoes and corn were cooked perfectly and so much yummy flavorful butter. Add on of fried oysters and a side of Mac and cheese. It was exceptional! Very casual place. Inside has a fish market to buy fish to bring home to cook and the menu to order food. No seats inside but rustic picnic tables outside. Great experience. We'll definitely return.

Simply Seafood on Maybank Highway on Johns Island is a great place to go for delicious and flavorful seafood in a relaxed space. I like being able to order everything and have it made fresh and having a nice outdoor area to enjoy everything. I have enjoyed all of the orders that I have made from here.

Amazing. The Garlic butter is so good but I cannot rave more about the Cajun sauce. Wow. I was licking my fingers and eating with my hands with joy. The owners are as kind as can be and were so helpful picking out our seafood. These two platters were perfect for 4 adults. The shrimp was sweet and the crab was yummy! The corn and potatoes were the perfect addition and in the sauce they are incredible.

Way better than the fancy restaurants in Charleston for a low country boil! Super fresh seafood that tastes amazing! We were so impressed by this unobtrusive little restaurant. Do yourself a favor and try it out!
