The trick is to find the line of cars parked by the brick building or the occasional person on the sidewalk toting a bag of styrofoam containers. You’re here for their Caribbean menu with options like spicy beef patties, jerk chicken egg rolls that work best when dunked fully in the thick pineapple sauce, and their standout sandwich, which made it onto our cheesesteak guide. "When you’re in the mood for a Jamaican beef patty, venture off Georgia Avenue to a residential side street to find JD’s. It’s part takeout joint, part convenience store, and fully worth a trip to sample Caribbean dishes like their patties and super delicious jerk chicken egg rolls. The corner store has changed ownership about as often as the neighborhood has gone through rebirths, but this newest version might be our favorite. We love to mosey through racks of chips and coolers stuffed with ice cream. "If you're a person who always asks for double cheese, JD's cheesesteak is for you. JD’s is part takeout joint and part convenience store hidden in the suburban streets of Summerhill. Their Caribbean-inspired dishes are all delicious, but one of our favorite items here is their sometimes on-, sometimes off-menu cheesesteak. Ask nicely and the guy behind the counter (usually the cheerful owner) will likely whip it up even when it’s not the special of the day. Their cheesesteak is loaded with an absurd amount of melted cheese and sprinkled with red and green peppers. It’s the ideal sandwich for our fellow cheese-obsessed brethren." - juli horsford
"You gotta cruise down the residential streets of Summerhill to find JD’s—a neighborhood secret that’s part takeout joint and part convenience store. Their menu is stacked with Caribbean-inspired dishes, but we gravitate towards their sandwiches because they're just too good to pass up. BLTs, tuna, and salmon sandwiches on toasted subs are touched with spicy jerk seasoning and are all amazing choices. But the best sandwich isn’t always on the menu.
