Great local bar. Came on a Saturday to watch football and it wasnt super busy. Only had a few things on the menu but they were all good. Would definitely come back.

Great fries! Tendies were solid. Great drinks! Heads up that they really won't give you water without charging for a bottle. Heads up for the lunch crowd that sometimes there is no chef and the yummy menu you saw online can't be done and it's only like movie theater food available. Definitely a neighborhood bar, so if you're not from the neighborhood it might be awkward. Heads up there is a cover charge for karaoke. Heads up their Touch Tunes machine will BLAST everyone with volume so don't use it lmao.

It's a nice down to earth neighborhood pub, conveniently located on a main street. Pretty good bar, decent food for a pub, at very reasonable prices. Comfortable seating, clean restrooms. We enjoyed a comedy show on a winter Saturday night. Yet I can't rate it 5 stars due to a few things. The interior decor is not as rich as in other pubs. They held our credit card thru the evening, which we never saw in other places. It made me uncomfortable thinking that they could take pictures of my card and use it as they wish. I understand they're afraid that people would run off without paying, but in this case they had all my info since I bought the comedy tickets online. After the comedy show, we couldn't stay much longer for more food, drinks and conversation, because they played very loud music, so we left. Good experience overall :-)

Had an incredible meal here! The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked just the way i ordered. Easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I also came in late when they were on "fried food only" but the owner made me a burger regardless. What really made the experience even better was the service. Crystal was amazing—super friendly, attentive, and had multiple check ins with me. Top notch service.

Their Chicken fingers and fries do not disappoint. Karaoke is a fun time. The drinks were lackluster but we didn't even arrive until after midnight. Staff was likely just trying to control overdrinking. Reasonable prices and fun history. All around good time.

Perfect place to unwind at the end of a long day! I've recently moved into the neighborhood and was taking a walk after a long afternoon of virtual meetings. Stopped for a glass of wine and a nibble. The bartenders were both attentive and wonderful, making sure I had what I needed and felt welcome in the space. The food was good--especially the sweet potato fries. I will definitely be back!

One of the best local pubs I’ve been to flying out of Logan stopped to visit. My niece came to Jeannie’s ordered some food but the grill was not on the owner. Hank said if you’ll be here a while, I’ll fire it up and cook for you. it doesn’t get any better, the food is fantastic as well as the selection of adult beverages Can’t wait to stop back gotta try the chili. Sep 2024: For bar food, it was great. The fried ravioli was delicious and perfectly crispy. The fries were evenly cut and fresh, and the burgers were decent for a bar. The local drinks were a nice touch as well.

Stopped by with some friends while visiting Boston, they have a ton of great options for pints and the general vibe is good. However we were really disappointed to be rejected when asking for tap water - apparently the only water available is paid bottled. I do want to give a huge shout out to Jessie who was excellent on the service side for the evening! But honestly, just surprised that there's still bars out there that won't serve you water free of charge.

My local bar, I've been going here a couple years and have loved the service, food, and overall vibe. Trivia on Wednesdays is a particular highlight. The service is great, and Jesse in particular is a fantastic bartender. However, on my most recent visit they wouldn't give us tap water, instead trying to charge us for bottled water as part of a new policy. This is during a 95 degree heat wave. I've never been to a bar or establishment that refused to serve me tap water. I find it to be so beyond greedy and honestly a bit dangerous to refuse hydration for people who are drinking, instead trying to get them to buy bottles. It's genuinely upsetting to be writing a negative review for this place because I went every week for trivia and did love going here, but their refusal to serve me water is a deal breaker for me and I won't be going back until this is fixed. If the owner Hank is reading this, please consider revising this policy.

I've lived in JP for 20 years... I stopped here on a Monday night recently for some wings and a beer. This place used to be ok. But I had bad wings, a poorly-socialized bartender, and generally sketchy-looking clientele

Ever want to go to a gay bar/ dart bar?/ Irish bar named after a boat? This is your spot. VERY LGBTQA+ clients. Bartenders can be typical for an Irish bar, but what do you expect from a bar named after a GD boat. Food is fried, buff chick wrap is our go to when we visit gram-papa at the forest hills cemetery. Just a quick walk from the orange/purple line. Don't look for frills, but look for your new best friend. Everyone there including the bartenders are ready for a quick chat. The day time is quiet but cute and the night can get as fun as a JP night can. Always a mix of people, genders, orientations, bikers, lesbians, and your a casual tourist meeting up with a local. Sure not to miss. If Julie is working, you're in luck 10/10. I don't bring my kids here except for the one that's been in me for 8 month. Can't wait to get this demon out of me so I can finally have one of Adams famous cocktails. God he's so sexy. Cheers to two more weeks of pregnancy.

I love this place. It's my new favorite bar! Mike was dancing to Britney Spears, which was very spicy. And Steve's drink the woo-woo is to die for! My only regret is that I didn't start coming here sooner!!

Love the JJ! My local. Friendly, efficient bartenders. Big complaint: Only bottled water. Why, when you're including safe on-tap water in some of your drinks? When so many folks care about sustainability, only offering bottled water is a terrible decision. Please offer tap water.

This place is da bomb. Steve and his woo woo are woooonderful. And Mike is so fun to talk to in his fireside chat. Karaoke is awesome. Highly recommend as a Boston native.

Great bartenders, and service, I typically have not ordered food. With COVID food is mandatory, no complaints, basic pub grub. The locals are very chill and they keep this place cleaner than I have ever seen it, nice work. I used to go here after work to meet friends.

The absolute best bar in Boston. Great beer list, great atmosphere, and there's no better bartenders than Gerrica, Dan, and Adam. Don't forget to come for the best karaoke in the COUNTRY hosted by Nicky K on Saturdays. And God Bless Mike - this boat's skipper.

I'd like to give this place a higher review since it's my local pub but they really don't do anything to deserve it. Their biggest sin is their flat skunky drafts. I mean I really don't care that the selection is minimal or that the lighting is bad or that it doesn't seem like they ever clean the place - whatever it's dive bar, BUT the beer SHOULD be fresh tasting and it's not, not now not (I'm assuming) ever.

Bartender was very nice but I ordered a burger and it took a little over an hour to come out. Beer selection is weak and overpriced. I recommend the Galway House.

This place is what you think of when you think of bar. Good music playing, sports on the TV's, a decent amount of seating at the bar, locals being a little rowdy, and bartenders keeping everyone in line. The food is good, the bartenders are nice and keep your drinks strong and regular. It's everything that this place should be. Pull up a chair, order a drink, food and play darts or watch the game. Get comfortable and get to know your neighbors.

Several months ago I again went into this place with some friends and it was the most awful experience I have ever had. I went to the bathroom got a call and was taking on my phone while in the stall. All of a sudden a hear a bang on the stall door and what I guess is the owner violently grabbed me by the neck and walked me all way out to the front door and kicked me out of the bar. Now I am not young douchebag, I am an established professional with graduate degrees and frankly I have never been treated with such disrespect. I was at an absolute loss as to why this happened. I kept asking why I was being escorted out and he was mumbling something about drugs. The owner had been there more of the night drinking with the patrons, he had even earlier stumbled into me spilling my beer all over the floor. He was clearly intoxicated and making no sense what so ever. After this episode, I came to the conclusion that he kicked me out because I was speaking Spanish on the phone in the stall. Being Puerto Rican, there is no doubt in my mind that this episode was racially motivated. This owner is a racist cockroach, which given the community in which it's located it was shocking and I feel terrible for the great staff who work there.

Smells like urinal cakes! Karaoke is good. Terrible music usually. Mediocre service especially if you are are non-white. Weird cramped layout. Draft beer tastes weird/unclean. Brendan Behan Pub down the street is much more inviting.

I moved in down the street, this has become my new favorite spot. Julie and Mike are the best :)

How is the staff here so nice? We rolled in at 9 on a Sat night, and everyone from the bartenders to waitresses were incredibly friendly and helpful, even as our group got bigger and louder (and drunker). Total surprise, and definitely worth mentioning (thank you, Jeanie staff!). Saturday night karaoke is also worth mentioning, as it's seriously awesome... great song selection, hilarious crowd (think less wasted college kids, and more hardcore middle-aged songsters who take their craft seriously), fabulous atmosphere (we basically took over an entire half of the pub, and still had plenty of room to move around/dance/sit/munch on apps). If I lived closer, I'd definitely be a regular here...

Super chill local pub. Went there alone after a long day of work just to grab a beer and left with a handful of new friends. It has that local community vibe which is exactly what we need sometimes as we try to scape from the big city. It's officially my number one bar now.

Mikey the bar tender sets the tone. They provide games. There are only posi vibes. Do you wanna have the best time ever? Come to this bar. You'll find it.

After the guys at my job kept raving about the 25 cent wings here, I finally tagged along and joined them! I think overall we ordered about 40 wings. Ridiculous, I am still trying to recover from the amount of wings I ate. Not to mention the Long Island I ordered was extremely light, usually when I get these they are a little on the dark side..resembling Iced Tea. I'm not exactly complaining, I just regret not eating before I came here because the Long Island was stronger than I'm used to. This was a decent experience, minus the guy who served us wings & drinks. He tried to make it seem like he didn't want us to order that many wings, according to the cook they wanted to "save some for people coming in later on." It was already 8pm, and there were 5 of us, plus one woman dining alone, on a snowy day! So I'm not sure what crowd he was waiting for, from what I hear it's usually not that busy in here, lol yikes.

I went here several years ago and really wasn't impressed. However, after James's Gate closed I noticed that they had revamped their menu and thought I'd check them out again. Their beer selection was better - and there were some entertaining characters at the bar - but I wouldn't go there again. I walked in and half the bar was empty. As I pulled out a chair the bartender said, "the boys are sitting there." Ok, doke... hello to you too! I took a look at the menu which was scaled back from their original over-haul. I ordered the "Home-made Veggie Burger" since it was the only vegetarian entree. "Oh, I didn't make those this morning," the bartender says... Eh, ok.... So, I order Zucchini Sticks. I regretted this as I saw the bartender scraping something off the sole of her boot with her fingernails. There was no hand-washing involved. My mozzarella sticks arrived (nope, not what I ordered) and I was so annoyed and grossed out that I just left. The end.

A solid, neighborhood pub that doesn't pretend to be more than it is. The JJ is a great place to watch sports games, or to have a quiet drink with a friend after work. I've never had an issue finding a seat, even during a Patriots game. The prices are reasonable for drinks and they don't skimp on the liquor. The bartender was nice to talk to. He seemed to be running outside every 10 minutes though for a smoke break. Fine as long as you have a drink, but try not to run out while he's outside. Food was good. We got the chicken wings and they were delicious. Because it was a game day, they had a 50cents/wing special. Buffalo sauce is certainly spicy so make sure you have some blue cheese sauce or water to negate the burn. Weekly events include trivia, darts, karaoke, and live music. Mixed feelings on this place. I've gone a few time for trivia, and the quiz master is one of the best I've ever had. The bar, however, is a shit hole and the staff all seem like they would rather be anywhere else. Every stool in the bar seems like it's about to collapse, the beer selection is something out of 1986, and the bartenders are always pissed off. In such a small bar it's a wonder that it takes at least 10-15 minutes hovering around the bar to get a drink. And the last time we were there the entire bar smelled like some chemical disinfectant. So, kind of a weird gross place, but one hell of a quiz master.

We went in and were told that my younger sister couldn't stay past 8:30, because of some vague law that says minors can't stay past 8:30. Not one person came to ask as what we wanted to eat. Eventually we just decided to pay for our drinks and go. Absolutely awful experience. I will never go back and strongly advise others to do the same.

Why are they so mean and thoughtless? The closing bartender on Thursday, June 25th was so unacceptably rude. I live on the same block as this bar but will never bring my friends here again. I brought a bunch of friends to Jeannie Johnston and their terrible service made me look like a crappy host. I brought a group of 8 girls here to celebrate one of our last nights together in Boston after three years. We ordered tons of drinks and then at exactly one AM she starts yelling at us to "get the F*CK out of my bar" and demanded that we not even finish our drinks. We weren't drunk or rowdy, and were honestly confused why she was acting so hostile. There was no last call, no warning, no friendly reminders. We had been her only customers in an otherwise empty bar and she thanked us by ruining our night. Despite a fun night with some great friends, all we will remember is being made to feel sh*tty by a mean woman for no reason. We want our tips back! AAAAAaand, earlier that night, they had forgotten to place our food order for over half an hour and then declared that the kitchen was closed after we asked, hungrily, how our tater tots were coming along.

Food is excellent. Well put together and tastes great. Service is very slow on off-days so don't expect to get in and out quickly. Good for watching sports and there's a dartboard if watching isn't your thing. Altogether the food is much better than other pubs in the area. Beer is what you'd expect, around 13 on tap.

Holy crap, this place has food? I didn't know that. I also didn't know there wasn't karaoke here every night. Every time I'm here there's karaoke. Maybe they never have karaoke and I just like to sing Lionel Richie songs real loud. Either way, everyone near me wins all the time. I suggest going here when there's karaoke, which is either whenever I'm there or on Saturday nights, depending on whether you want to believe me or everyone else who reviewed this place. The line's not too bad and they have a good songbook. (Caveat: I don't really go there to "sing karaoke" - I want to scream one song, try to get the skanks nearest me to sing "all niiight" on the chorus (unsurprisingly easy) and then go to the next bar. And by "good songbook" I mean they have Lionel Richie. If you're one of those hardcore karaoke singers, your mileage may vary.)

OK...Let's talk about the Jeanie Johnston Pub in JP. Mostly because Chris (my housemate) just wrote a review of it and it brought back some fond memories. It's a great place to get in a bar fight, and their mac and cheese, albeit a little salty, is a great value. Did you know that I start all my reviews with "OK," then briefly mention the place I'm reviewing, go on a personal tangent and eventually get back onto the topic? That's my formula. Now you know! Being a Cultural Anthropologist, I quite enjoy watching people as if they were animals in cages. This suggests that I might have Antisocial Personality Disorder, but the diagnosis was inconclusive. After about 9 pm, the JJ crowd seems to devolve into monsters, like when Captain Janeway on Star Trek Voyager turned into a space iguana. I watched a young couple show up, have some drinks and proceed to act all lovey dovey. The girl went to the bathroom, the guy called another girl on his cell phone and said: "I'll to get over there soon..." The original girl reappeared. Guy got angry and asked her where the fuck she had been. She told him he was a psycho, and she went across the bar to another guy, a stranger to her, and asksed him for a smoke. They went outside. The first guy looked out the window, waited for the other two to return, and splashed his PBR in the girl's face. The smoking guy's girlfriend appeared and attacked the first girl from the side. The two girls were tossed out and the guys bought each other a beer. Then the smoking guy left. The other one picked on a disabled guy and another bar fight started but it ended quickly when the disabled guy started having a seizure. Really interesting. I thought I was going to get into a bar fight there before. This guy was staring at me, spitting a bit when he chomped at the air, saying some slurred stuff about fags and kicking ass, or something. But, I think I might have misinterpreted him, as it became apparent that he wanted to have sex with me. Straight guys wanting to experiment are so funny. It's amazing they can drive or hold jobs, never mind get laid. Anyway, after I told him to kindly fuck off he suggested that we go to the bathroom, and mentioned something about how he wasn't a fag but that he wouldn't kick Marky Mark out of bed. Then he started hugging me and calling me "bro." Later he sang "Good Vibrations" (not the Beach Boys version, by the way) on the Karaoke machine while undressing me with his eyes! If you think I judge, you misread me, dear reader. I should note that the bar staff are laid back good guys, the beer is good, varied and cheap. It smells a little like barf in there, but all JP bars do, except the dbag expensive ones. I love the JJ. Plus they are open until 2am!!!! Super bonus! Anyway, you seriously need to get the $3 mac and cheese, a pint of PBR, kick back and take it all in. Karaoke is especially fantastic. Also, the drunk men in uniform provide some fun twists and turns. Let's just hope there aren't any emergencies in Center-South JP on a Saturday night! Oh, no wait: BAR FIGHT!

Great place to go with friends or if you want to be left alone. Cheap drinks and the bartenders aren't sleazy, unlike some other places in the neighborhood where you'll find trouble you won't want. Wish I could give 10 stars. Wouldn't have found it if I hadn't needed to stop going to other bars because I was afraid of their staff.

I ignored the Jeanie for a long time because of one bad time there like 4 or 5 years ago. That night I was there with a friend and we put about $5 in the juke box and were ready to slide into a scotch bender over some Johnny Cash and Hank Williams when all of a sudden after about 2 songs the bar tender turned off the juke box and put on some crappy house music. When we asked for our money back she just said 'no'. Needless to say, that sucked and I didnt feel like giving the place a shot again for some time. So, time goes on and last Saturday I checked out the Jeanie with a bunch of friends on Karaoke night. Holy JP new favorite bar for fun with a big group. The place went from dead to packed in about 30 minutes as karaoke started and some serious hard core singers lined up to fire off Journey covers for the rest of the night. Seriously fun to watch. The drinks are really cheap (there is nothing too special on the drink menu, a few specials), the service is awesome and the late night food menu is doable as well. If you're into that sort of thing, they have a dart board and they even sport pretty darn clean rest rooms. I suggest hitting the Jeanie on a Saturday night if you want to see the good times side of JP and meet some vocally talented townies.

Be aware that the Saturday night karaoke DJ is a dictator who shuffles/removes song requests. My friends and I waited almost 2 hrs and our songs (from their karaoke list) never showed up. We realized that some people that arrived after us were already singing. I confronted him (because this was not the first night he neglected our songs for some reason), he got very defensive and literally yelled in my face that we "came to his establishment and disrespected him" only because my friend asked when our song was coming.. I had to tell him to calm down. The security guard was standing next to us and didn't kick us out because we obviously didn't do anything wrong.

The JJ is one of the guilty pleasures in my life. Back before my doctor told me I had high cholesterol that needed addressing, I used to go to the JJ to chow down on a plate of jalapeno poppers and a Caeser salad and call it dinner. These days, I try to do that a bit less, but I still love stopping by for a Magner's and some people watching. If you go to the JJ on a busy night, you can usually sit back and watch at least one or two messy booze-induced relationship meltdowns. There's more bad karaoke than you can shake a stick at on the weekends, and I've seen some real creative dancing the one or two times I've caught a band there. The whole scene reminds me a lot of the kinds of bars I go to when I visit family and friends down in RI. In a good way, you know?

A friend and I were planning on a trip to the Arboretum, so I researched pubs in the area, and found this place. We got here at 2:30 PM on a Monday, and they didn't open until 3:00 -- D'OH! However, it was worth the wait. They have Sierra Nevada on tap, a friendly owner/bartenter, and delicious sandwiches. I also enjoyed the other friendly patrons who came in . . . there's nothing like a good Irish pub! I'll definitely be back.

Definitely an awesome dive bar and yes I can describe some dive bars as completely awesome and mean it. I went last night for trivia night and it was above average compared to other bar trivias that I've been to. Not only did the trivia lady person come up with some creative questions but she also provided a killer soundtrack for the evening! I was introduced to some great new bands. As far as the bar itself, it really is a small hole-in-the-wall type place but I'd choose one of these establishments over some dance club any day! The beer on tap was cold and delicious and though I did not try the food it looked pretty good. Too bad I don't live near JP or I would probably go to Jeanie Johnston's more often. Definitely a good place for groups of friends to hang out, get a drink, and have some conversation.

For some reason I always get this place confused with the Brendan Behan. Alliterated names syndrome maybe? In any case, these bars are night and day. This place has food, though not any worth eating. A pretty short beer list, so stick to the Harpoon. No dogs are allowed, though fratty and close-suburban type guys are. The reason I'm still giving this place stars? I had the best karaoke night of my life there. It's weird. I've been there when the dj is stingy and won't let anyone sing more than one song per table, even if you've been there all night. But my legend night, I got to sing a few, soul'd out with some Dream Girls 'I Am Tellin' You I Ain't Goin'', danced with some guys in cowboy hats and listed to Mr. Mark sing a dozen songs with the word 'Mom' in them. (It was Mother's Day.) Hot tip: If it's the regular DJ, only request one song at a time or else he gets cranky.

2003 was a terrible year. Not just for me personally, but for the whole country. George W. Bush launched his pointless and idiotic invasion of Iraq. The United States' international standing tanked. And the Jeanie Johnston, the pub that I lived across the street from and often visited, renamed "French fries" to "freedom fries." Seriously, guys? Really? For those of you that have forgotten, there was some kind of weird right-wing attempt by the Bush administration's apologists to "punish" the government of France for daring to question our wisdom in invading Iraq, WMDs or (as turned out to be the case) no WMDs. And part of that "punishment" was official encouragement to rename foods that happened to have the word "French" in them. Tres bizarre, non? Well, France was right all along, believe it or not. France 1, USA 0. In 2003, I was sick about the invasion, sick about the general approval of the war, and sick about the Jeanie Johnston's right-wing-pandering menu. (I mean, come on.) I never went back. I don't know if they still have "freedom fries" on the menu seven years later, so I've awarded them an extra star. But for those who like their beer and burgers with a side of sanctimoniousness, this might be the place for you.

Great karaoke night and decently priced drinks. Easily accessible on public transportation because there is little to no parking

Do you think all those Patriots players who have signed "Best bar!" have actually been in there? Maybe Larry Izzo has (they have his jersey hanging up), but Vinatieri too? It's a townie bar with a few staunch characters in there most nights. But nothing too bad. They pour a pretty good pint of Guinness and their food is um...not very good. Jury's still out on trivia because they seem to have a rotating trivia jockey, but every one of them really take their sweet time with everything and even take breaks. Like it's that daunting.
