How Carmel’s Only Korean Restaurant Jeju Kitchen Kicked Its Dining Scene Up a Notch | Eater SF

"The dining room hums with the sounds of sizzling stone bowls of bibimbap and the slurping of dark black, savory jajangmyeon noodles; it’s a casual, stylish spot in the heart of buzzy Carmel Plaza that infuses Korean flavors into bar bites and upscale dishes. Ashley Wolff opened the restaurant in December 2023 and, as the only Korean restaurant in Carmel, has become an ambassador of sorts for the cuisine—locals adopted it quickly and it has since been recommended by Michelin, the New York Times, and Forbes. Wolff’s menu features signature creations such as gochujang-loaded tater tots, Korean barbecue wings, and kimchi macaroni and cheese, while a fan favorite is the crispy arancini filled with kimchi fried rice and molten cheese; the review notes the “initial crunch from the exterior, the chewiness of the rice, and the gooeyness of the cheese,” with kimchi adding “some freshness and funkiness.” Several dishes highlight technical care and cross-cultural technique: kimchi is made from scratch (a lengthy process Wolff calls out), a forthcoming Korean smash burger is described as “the baby of kimchi mac and cheese and a Big Mac,” and fusion plates include a cloud-like, aromatic Thai tea tiramisu and a creamy miso cacio e pepe made with mafaldine, miso butter, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Reflecting her upbringing, Wolff—born in Seoul but raised in the U.S.—says, “I wanted to go hard on Korean,” and adds, “We’ve learned twice that people gravitate toward it.” She frames the concept as personal fusion: “I’m not a Korean restaurant, I’m Korean fusion. I really want [the restaurant] to mirror me.” The restaurant’s roots trace to Wolff’s mother, who ran Carmel Coffee and Cocoa Bar and later bought Grill on Ocean Avenue, adding Korean short ribs, kimchi stew, and glass noodles; Wolff recalls being surprised that dishes like kimchi stew sold well for breakfast and credits those family experiences with inspiring her own venture. Her mother helps at the restaurant—making the kimchi and tropical fruit drinks such as strawberry lemonade and mango pineapple punch—and imparts lessons about minimizing waste and hard work; Wolff reflects, “There’s so much food that’s on our menu that I got made fun of for as a kid,” says Wolff, “My mom would pack kimchi soup for my lunch. Now, everyone thinks it’s cool — everyone is eating kimchi because it’s a probiotic.” Still in its early stages—the sign just went up this April—Wolff says the project is deeply personal: “This is my kid,” says Wolff, “I tell people, ‘We have our two front teeth now.’” The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily." - Octavio Peña

The food was delicious and the portions were monstrous. I guess it was a very good value if you consider that there will be so many leftovers. Our party of four does not like to waste food, and just seeing these portions, while very tasty, felt quite daunting. My request to Jeju Kitchen is to offer both small and large portions on the menu, or downsize their portions & prices a bit. The "KFC" fried chicken was comically huge. Like 6 chicken breasts and two legs. This dish alone would have fed the four of us. The Poke bowl would have fed two people. I felt especially bad about wasting the last bits of the Poke bowl because it's a dish that won't keep very well as a leftover. Anyway, we did love this restaurant and the portion size was my only criticism.

Google
It's not an authentic Korean restaurant, but it's a great place to taste Korean food. You can taste representative ribs and bibimbap. Especially Korean pancake was delicious. Please note that bibimbap is really large. I especially liked the very clean and modern interior. There are not many tables prepared, but since it was weekday evening, I was able to enter right away without waiting. I recommend you to visit.

Off the hook place. The initial thought was each thing that we order was going to be tiny portions. They were not. We ordered the Tuna Poke Plate. It full of poke and full of flavor. It was a little spicy for the person who ordered it but not for me. We also ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and it was quite of few pieces that came with it. It was crispy and cooked to perfection. Then lastly I ordered the kimchi dolsot bibimbap which came in a clay pot. It was served with Kimchi on the side but in the clay pot there was glass noodles, kimchi, spinach, and the rice formed a nice little crust on the bottom of the clay pot that mad this dish special. Our experience here was very good and I will be suggesting this place to many others. Too many things on the menu looked desirable.

Great atmosphere with the outdoor fireplaces, wonderful quick service, and prices that beat the surrounding restaurants without compromising on quality of the food. Must try! Very unique dishes that made it extremely difficult to make a decision on exactly what we wanted, since everything sounded so good, but my wife and I both enjoyed our meals immensely. Hopefully we'll come back to Carmel some time so we can try other dishes!

Google
My boyfriend and I had a dinner reservation here and I was very excited to try this place out. However, the food was so bland. I’m not sure if the food is always this bland or if it’s because I didn’t order one of the popular dishes. I ordered black bean noodles (jajangmyeon noodles) and beef stone pot dolsot bibimbap. The appetizers we ordered were okay (chili oil wontons and korean pancakes). Overall, I had better Korean food elsewhere. Jeju kitchen was just okay. The pictures of the food look tasty though! Haha. On another note, the service was really good. Our server was very attentive. Atmosphere was also nice.

Google
This is the best Korean food I ever had! We got several plates for a party of 5, no kidding we all found it super delicious! My favorites are the spicy chicken, ribs, and dumpling soup. I'd give it 6 stars if I could!

We had an excellent meal at Jeju Kitchen in Carmel by the sea. We found it accidentally while walking around and wanted to try it out. We read the introduction at the entrance door and we're very intrigued by the menu and setting. We never saw a Korean restaurant in the mall and it was a fresh look to the multicultural restaurants in Carmel. We entered the restaurant and we were greeted by a friendly waiter. Looking at the menu we tried the Kimchi pancake, the Kalbi and Dolsot Bibimbap. All the dishes were nicely presented as you can see in the picture. The kimchi pancake in particular is very crispy, thin and without too much flower and the taste is excellent. Really something you would expect from a Korean restaurant in Korea. This place is a fusion between Korean and Italian flavor. Very unique and perfect location among the many different restaurants in the mall with Japanese, American, breakfast and lunch cafe style food, wine tasting and many more shops with their unique taste and flavors. Jeju Kitchen is also unique with their name as it reflects something like the flavors of Jeju island and relaxed atmosphere. They have outside patio seating with a fireplace, very cozy when it is cold or chilly weather in Carmel. Anyone who wishes to try Korean cuisine with a western influence should for sure try this unique restaurant. Very clean and pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant was pretty full even at the beginning of the week. It was a great experience and we will certainly be back on our next trip to Carmel by the Sea.

Love Korean food? This place is for you! Dumplings were steamed and tasty! Soup was hot and yummy! Inside is a little too loud, but they also have an outdoor seating with gas heaters.

Yelp
If there's one place you need to eat when you're in Carmel.... this is the one. After seeing multiple tik toks about this place, I had to see for myself what all the hype was about.... and the hype is real. From the service to the food itself, it had it all. Our server, Kenny, was awesome! He had great knowledge of the menu (i.e. knowing what drink would pair best with the dishes we were ordering), was super attentive, and overall made the experience great! Now... THE FOOD. To start, I thought the appeteizers we started out with were just OK. Solid, not life changing. We got the fried calamari and the chicken wings and both were okay, I wouldn't necessarily get either of them again. BUT THE PASTA???? The stars of the showwwwwww. 〰  Kimichi Mac 'N' Cheese (5/5): INCREDIBLE. I read another Yelp review saying they think of this mac n cheese often and I can also attest.... I still think about it. It is delicious. I opted to add pork belly to mine and it was *chef's kiss*. So incredibly flavorful and comforting. A MUST GET. 〰  Creamy Miso Cacio e Pepe (5/5): WOW! This pasta was so good that as soon as our waiter took the order, the people at the table next to us told us it was a good choice and we wouldn't be disappointed. Another must have. DELISH. I would 1000000% come here again. In fact, I would come to Carmel just to eat here.

Yelp
I came here on a Monday at 4pm and was seated immediately. The inside is spacious and clean. The menu features Asian fusion pastas and traditional korean food (galbi, tofu soup, etc.) I got pork belly with the pasta dishes, which is a must because it was so delicious! Kimchi mac and cheese: 5/5. So good!! The sauce had such a unique flavor. The sauce was creamy with a good spice level. I wish the pasta was more al dente since it was slightly overcooked. I would come back for this dish! $22 + $8 for pork belly Miso cacio e pepe: 3.7/5. Nothing special. I thought the sauce was bland. I got bored of it pretty fast. $28 + $8 for pork belly Spicy wonton: 4/5. Also nothing special to write about. It came after both of my entrees did even though it's listed as an appetizer. $14 Service: 5/5. The staff were attentive and quickly filled my water. Overall, a solid choice when you're in Carmel by the Sea. The portions for the pasta were large, making the price worth it. We were also going to order the ravioli initially, but the server said the portion size was small, so we opted for something else. I enjoyed their honesty! Parking is only available on the street, which can be difficult when it's busy. There is one unisex bathroom which I didn't use since there was a line.

Yelp
We came at 11:45 AM on a rainy Sunday and were seated right away. The restaurant filled up by noon. The place is trendy and nicely decorated. Our appetizer arrived by noon main entrées by 12:25. Love love, loved the mushroom tempura!! lions mane mushrooms are meaty & delicious. My vegetarian friends -- the vegetarian items are marked with a green leaf on the menu. The tempura was crunchy, but not oily and the sauce was so yummy. We were told the Gangnam tots were like In-N-Out animal style fries, but tots instead of fries. They also had four vegetarian starters edamame, fried kimchi dumplings. There are a lot of vegetarian Korean fusion options on the menu-- veggie grilled cheese, farmers market salad, Jeju garden salad, jajangmyeon noodles, korean glass noodles, creamy miso cacio e pepe, chili crunch primavera. It's not listed on the menu, but they said they could add tofu as an add-on protein. So I imagine some of the Korean items could be made vegetarian by switching the meat for tofu. My husband got the creamy miso. Got you a Pepe with pork belly and enjoyed it but he said my chili crunch Primavera was definitely even better. It came steaming hot. The sauce is velvety coding each noodle with a confetti of chili crunch that kicks it up a notch. After the tempura, I was pretty full, so was only able to eat about half of the pasta dish. The restaurant is inside a nice plaza that does have garage parking for eight dollars an hour, or you can do street parking.

Yelp
My sister has been here so often that the staff actually knows her, and it really showed. We were on vacation with all my sisters and chose to have dinner here one night, and we were treated like VIPs from the moment we sat down.. We ordered a few appetizers to share, with the dumplings and the kim chee pancake being my favorites. For mains, we shared several dishes, and the Korean fried chicken was a standout. The portions are very generous. Even with three of us sharing, we still had leftovers. To top it off, they surprised us by comping a couple of large desserts, which was such a nice touch. Just a note that tables of six have an automatic gratuity, which is pretty standard. Great food, warm service, and a memorable experience.

Yelp
Overall, not standout but not totally disappointing. Jeju gives an upscale feel + Columbian fusion twist to otherwise familiar Korean dishes. Maybe it was the fusion that threw me off, but I overall felt underwhelmed by most of what I tried, and the food unfortunately did feel quite heavy (but also, maybe it's just the combo of what my party ordered) If I had to choose a favorite dish of the night, it was the Creamy Miso Cacio Pepe, though that was ironically the least Korean dish on my table... The TLDR: not for me, but If you're curious about fusion flavors, this might be a novel place to try...

Yelp
The restaurant felt a little nostalgic like a diner when people dined in diners. Parking lot felt a little shady like I should go check on the car every few mins lol. We ordered chicken tenders for the kiddies and I ordered a chimichurri sandwich. Since we were at a Korean restaurant we better order something that represents so we got the KFC. Sandwich was better than I expected but the chicken was stripped of its juices like it had been practicing Tae Kwon Do all day in a hot dojo. What do you do when you order a steak at a steakhouse but it's super dry? You ask for A1. We asked for some sauce on the side to give it some hydration. Service was good tho I have to say. Would be willing to give it another try when in the area again.

Yelp
9.3/10 Absolutely amazing! Definitely a must-go spot! Started off with the Korean Short Ribs 9/10. Super appealing presentation and the flavor was on point: sweet, savory, and overall the best of both worlds. The Dolsot Bibimbap 9.5/10 was the star of the night. The steak was tender, the yolk perfectly runny, and the crispy rice at the bottom sealed the deal. A must-get and easily recommendable. The Kimchi Pork Belly Soup 7.5/10 had a very distinct kimchi-forward taste. If you love kimchi, you'll enjoy this one. The pork belly was definitely the highlight. Service was greatfast, attentive, and friendly. Ambiance was beautiful, modern, chill, and super CLEAN.

Yelp
We were craving Asian food in Carmel and we stumbled across Jeju Kitchen. We ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and Kimchi Mac and Cheese which was the perfect amount for 2 people. The hostess wasn't the friendliest but our server made up for it. Our server was super nice always checked up on us.

Yelp
First time and very popular restaurant! Saw their menu looked so good and it was hard for us to pick! We decided pick the popular and comfort dishes that fit for winter time! Their services are great and fast! We picked 2 dishes so we can easily share it! We ate outside, it was nice with cute plants around and have inside if you want to. They do have outdoor heaters and that helps! We would love eat there again whenever we visit!

Yelp
Lots of seating on a Wednesday afternoon. Korean fried chicken (KFC) and the radish was a bit bland, luckily they gave us some extra sauce on the side. Tater tots were nothing too special, in n out sauce with some cheese, I recommend skipping out next time. Creamy miso Cacio e Pepe with pork belly was the star of the show and super yummy and creamy. Would definitely come back for this dish and try out some of the others.

Yelp
This is a nice restaurant if you're feeling fusion. We enjoyed everything that was served to us, but given the price, I cannot full heartedly recommend this place. Kimchi Mac N Cheese 4/5: Our favorite dish. This is packed with flavor and super creamy. The added protein does help to break up the richness. Kimchi Dumplings and Chicken Wings were alright. They were executed perfectly, but it wasn't anything revolutionary. I feel you can find this in other restaurants with same level of quality for a lower price. Our servers were extremely attentive and the ambiance of the place was quite nice.

Yelp
Celebrated my friend's bday here on Sunday. So glad I made online reservations beforehand. We originally reserved it for 5:30pm but I called them at 4:20pm ish and asked if they were able accommodate us sooner and they did!! It's such a stunning spot! Both indoors and outdoors. Alina was a lovely server and very attentive. The food came out pretty fast. 5 girls feasted on so much food. What we ordered: Fried kimchi dumplings Korean pancake Creamy miso cacio e pepe Chili crunch primavera Korean short ribs Kimchi pork belly soup Won mae plum Arnold palmier Strawberry lemonade Thai tea Honestly everything hit the spot!! Wasn't a single dish I didn't like. Not really seeing the Korean/Italian fusion but the dishes were so so good. They were even nice enough to give a something sweet for my friend's bday! Thank you~ Great service all around. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great food, drinks, and service! I recommend making a reservation for dinner. You can't make a reservation for lunch, but we've gone before noon and there wasn't a wait. We loved all of the food but my favorite was the Creamy Miso Cacio E Pepe. Make sure to add a protein or get another protein dish to accompany it! I enjoyed the Short ribs but next time I wanna try the KFC. Also, they have amazing desserts! The staff was extremely nice and I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
Love the plaza this restaurant was in. It was beautifully decorated with lots of shops to walk around in to walk off your meal. Service was good and the food was pretty good for this area. Best Asian food you will find in the area. If you need something different from the all the seafood, this would be the place to go.

Yelp
A fun Korean fusion restaurant in Carmel! Mostly street parking here. The miso pasta had a great texture and the black bean noodle was good with the pork belly. I thought it did take awhile for the food to come put but overall a good experience. I did think food here was a little pricer than other Korean place but maybe its because of location.

Yelp
This was, unfortunately, a wholly frustrating experience. From the casually hostile hostess, whose very first words gruffly informed us that they "don't do strollers" (well, we do, so tough; do you treat wheelchair bound people with similar disdain?!), we were able to find a way to park our stroller to the side, out of the way, so that we could utilize one of the semi-damp patio tables outside. Once seated, I ended up ordering the kimchi smashburger, while my wife went with the jajangmyeon noodles, from our waitress, who was vastly superior in personality to the hostess. Sadly though, the food we received was another detractor: the smashburger was anything but smashed, being so tall as to be almost too big to bite into, and seemed woefully undercooked for its namesake; it was alright, but not great, and certainly not what it advertised itself to be. On a similar note, my wife complained that somehow, her noodles were almost completely flavorless, but even worse than that was the dry, tough, inedible pork belly that accompanied it. She managed to make it about a half dozen bites before giving up; we would end up finding her a meal at another restaurant later that night, to make up for her inedible entrée. Korean food is just about always a home run with us, so it was as surprising as it was disappointing, to leave with...well, I can't say BAD taste, so we'll say....such an absence of taste in our mouths. Combined with the aloof hostess and the poor seating, Jeju Kitchen, at least this location, is one place to which we will sadly not be returning.

Yelp
Food is mid. Never trust social media hype. I was already skeptical since so many influencers were raving about it, but was quite curious about the miso cacio e pepe. However, upon reading reviews, decided it would not have hit the spot. We decided to get the gangnam tots ($14), and the jajangmyeon ($24), and spicy bulgogi chicken ($38). Gangnam tots were whatever. Secret sauce is basically in-n-out animal style and it's a rather small portion for the price -better for my waist I suppose! The only thing Asian about it was the sprinkle of dried seaweed topping. My noodles were so bland. I expected more for black bean noodles! It seemed like spaghetti noodles and there was no flavor whatsoever. Better stick with the instant noodle version if you want more bang. I ate a few bites and decided I might as well take it home to fix myself. Chicken bulgogi wasn't very spicy. Rice was a little hard and the banchan was fishier than what I was accustomed to. At least there was some flavor I suppose? Either way, a pass if you're looking for good Korean food. It's just very Americanized and not my cup of tea.

Yelp
Such a cute date spot!!! Modern interior with a robut menu to compliment it. I recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekends. We were sat right away! Parking can be a bit tough. I definitely recommend the Miso Cacio E Pepe. Creamy and decadent. The pasta texture was perfect. A great chew to it. Portion was great for the price. Get this with the pork belly! My friends also really enjoyed the Korean Pancake! Again, huge portion. Crispy and flavorful! Well made. This is a solid appetizer for a group. Might be too much for two people. For dessert, they had an extensive menu. I got the Thai Tea Tiramisu, which was moist and had SO MUCH CREAM. I loved this! Considering the heavier dishes we had before, definitely share this :)

Yelp
This was a cute spot to go to celebrate a friends birthday. She wanted Korean food and suggested this spot since she hadn't been. We ordered the Fried Calamari, wings, spicy bulgogi chicken, beef stone bibimbap and the salmon rice bowl. The service was excellent. The dishes were good. We ate it all. We had a great time and would revisit to try some of the pastas as others have recommended.

Yelp
Yummy, yummy, yummy! My best friend and I went to Carmel for the first time ever for the popular hiking trails, but the star activity of that day was really going out to eat at this restaurant. We were quickly seated and waited on, the staff were really kind and attentive to our needs. They were happy to answer any questions we had about any dish or side, and offered a suggestion if we still felt unsure on if we wanted to order something or not. For example, we ordered the edamame, but was debating to get spicy or not since my friend is more sensitive to spice than I am. As a solution, they offered to plate it on the side, which was great because I don't think we would've been able to enjoy it fully if that sauce (I believe it was devil's paste) was smothered all over! We also ordered kimchi pork belly soup which was warm and flavorful. Probably wouldn't order this one again, but still pretty good! For our entree, my friend ordered the miso cacio e pepe, super creamy and savory. It was good, I felt like it would've gotten too repetitive for me, but she really enjoyed it and was able to eat it until she felt full. I ordered the kimchi mac n cheese with pork belly, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since (it's been months, this is a late review, I fear). I was so full, but I wanted to keep eating to stop myself from feeling super bloated later! The only thing that was meh was my strawberry lemonade drink. At first it's a bit sweet--not too bad--but the more you drink it, the more artificial it started to taste.

Yelp
Nice Korean fusion place with a Italian twist. The popular cacio e pepe like dish was good with a hefty portion with nicely done noodles. The kimchi stew was great for a cold rainy evening and large size. Bibimbap was traditional and nicely presented as well. Prices expected for Carmel. Attentive service.

Yelp
We went for the first time tonight and WOW! It was AMAZING. We got the spicy wontons and coconut shrimp as appetizers. The spicy wontons were spicy to me but to my husband they were mild. The coconut shrimp were absolutely to die for BUT they did have a very strong coconut flavor so if you don't like that then you most likely will want to steer away from those. But we loved it. They were perfectly golden brown and delicious. For entrees we ordered the Korean glass noodles and the spicy bulgogi chicken. They were both amazing and the portions were very generous. We tried each other's food and still have leftovers to take home. The chicken was really not spicy but the glass noodles did have an intense peppery flavor to them. For drinks it seemed like mostly beer/wine not hard liquor so I got bubbles and my husband got a fruity draft beer that he loved. The server was very friendly and took our order promptly. It did take a bit longer to get my glass noodles than my husband's dish but I do know that those take longer to cook so it was no big deal! The restaurant itself is pretty tight we were seated in a tight corner near the host stand/right next to other diners in a booth/table combo which I didn't love but it was fine. The decor is super cute and modern looking. They seem to have a lot outdoor seating but it was pretty chilly so I was glad we were inside! Overall we will one hundred percent be back and there are many more dishes I want to try!

Yelp
Very solid place to eat when in Carmel. But let me tell you what to order! Kimchi dumplings were tasty. The filling was very flavorful, no sauce needed. We got them fried but next time I want to try them steamed as well. Hawaiian burger was juicy, delicious and had good char taste. California smash burger double quarter pounder was huge and yummy. Cacio e Pepe was creamy, peppery and we liked the shape of the squiggly pasta noodles. But if you want more punch of flavor this is not it. But if you want creamy goodness with a good pasta chew this is your dish. KFC was solid, chicken was moist while crispy. So well executed from a fried chicken standpoint but a bit heavy on the batter and could use more flavor or better sauce. Hard to compare to our Bay Area options. Salmon rice bowl came with grilled salmon. The salmon was tasty. But perhaps we didn't read carefully because we thought it would be salmon poke. Regardless once we mixed everything together it had a fresh light taste. We also order two spritz. Grapefruit and blood orange. Both good but fyi the blood orange one was on the sweeter side compared to the grapefruit depending on your preferences. The restaurant vibes were high energy and friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor would've been nice but we did appreciate AC made indoors feel comfortable. We'll come back to order our favorites.

Yelp
Saw this place on social media and it looked really good. I was in the area and was excited to try it! I think I am usually somewhat wary/cautious about places raved about online. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I do think this place is worth the hype -- especially if you order the right dishes. They are known for their creamy miso cacio e pepe, so that is a must try dish. I haven't had cacio e Pepe before, but I will say that their creamy miso is a wonderful blend of the savory flavor from the miso, smooth texture from the cheese, and the chew from the noodles. I had a bite after I had the other pasta (which is more strongly flavored), so initially I thought it was almost a bit bland, but after eating more of it I was better able to appreciate the blend of flavors and thought it was quite delicious. We also ordered: jeju garden salad, Gangnam tots, Korean bbq chicken, and kimchi Mac n cheese. Hands down favorite amongst the 3 of us at the table: kimchi Mac n cheese. The kimchi flavors go so well with the cheese, and with the chew from the pasta --- mmmm, what a heavenly bite! I couldn't stop eating even though I was very full. I thought the other dishes were also really good, would order everything again. Service was very quick and attentive! We sat indoors (no wait at around 1:30pm on a Saturday), which was a bit loud but got better as more of the lunch crowd moved through. The outdoor seating looks wonderful: smack in the middle of Carmel Plaza, so you can enjoy the fresh air and the plants/flowers surrounding. Will be back when in the Carmel area!

Yelp
Lovely place with lots of options!! The menu was so clear with allergens, vegan/vegetarian options so it was great to see how many different options they have! The food was great! And the portions were huge!! I got the glass noodles and it was surprisingly filled with good portion of noodles and a surprise bowl of rice and banchan. Also tried the Gangnam tots which are a must have! So cheesy and flavorful. The spicy primavera pasta was also delicious!! Highly recommend reserving a table as they seem very popular. Overall a great place to come when in Carmel!

Yelp
First of all, I had high expectations upon entering. We ordered the poke bowl, dolsot bibimbap and Japchae. The poke was bland and not flavorful. While consuming, I felt like it was missing something. The dolsot bibimbap was okay. I've had better in other places. The Japchae was good and probably the only thing I enjoyed with our meal. Service was good and very attentive. We sat near the bar so they came around often to ask how we were doing. The place was quite lively and pretty easy to find if you're inside the shopping plaza.

Yelp
I'm so glad we decided to try out this little treasure! We were grabbing a late, mid-week lunch, before returning home. They were not too busy and we got seated right away. we tried the blood orange spritzer and it was really good. We ordered the coconut shrimp, Jeju salad and chili crunch alfredo. All were so yummy! The salad was no average salad. It had a mix of all my favorite things in an unexpected pallet of happiness. Hummus, fresh tangerine and avocado, kale and quinoa, roasted carrots and the yummiest pear dressing. The alfredo was comforting and unique and I would order it all again. The decor was clean and simple, comfortable and pleasant. The servers were friendly and helpful. I hope to get back to the area so I can come have another yummy meal!

Jeju may have a nice island but I would think twice before coming to its kitchen. Coming into Jeju kitchen, you are greeted by bright smiles from staff and ushered into an indoor or outdoor seating. The ambiance was very fitting for a Carmel restaurant. We ordered the miso cacio e pepe and tuna Poké bowl. Sadly, we were disappointed by the lack of flavor from the miso cacio e pepe. It lacked the oomph factor and flavor that we expected from a fusion dish. The plus was that the noodles were al dente. The tuna poke bowl was nothing special: decent flavor, lack of sauce, good portion size. As for bang for your buck, expect to spend a decent amount for a mediocre meal. Overall, likely won't return due to cost and lack of flavor from dishes :(

Yelp
I love going here, especially with my family. Great portions and great food, plus some of the desert options are unique and I don't see them sold anywhere else nearby (like the shaved ice desserts they'll have sometimes). Their thai tea is really good too when they have it. Every time me or my family gets food there we almost always got the arancini balls and the kimchi Mac and cheese. Every time my parents come home with food from here and no arencini balls I would cry a little inside lol. Then I found out my bf had never had arencini balls before so I had to take him here! Just to find out they aren't on the menu idk if it's just for a little bit or if they're off for good but they were a favorite with me, my family, and a good few of my friends too I'd say the ambiance of the restaurant is nice enough. The seating is nice and the costumer service is pretty good, though the art is a little lackluster in my opinion Some of the food is a little heavy but they have good light options, like I quite like their poke. It's a bit expensive, but that's kind of how the area it's in is

Yelp
Our waiter recommended the kimchi Mac and Cheese pasta and KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) which is made to order so the chicken does take about 20-25 min to come out. Mac and Cheese is not the traditional Mac and Cheese w the kimchi, but OMG!!!! Best thing I've put in my mouth to eat in Carmel. No lie. If you're craving mouthwatering, unique, buttery, rich, yet light pasta go here! I'm still thinking about this pasta now that I'm back home. I had a piece of the KFC it was sooooo juicy, piping HOT (that's how I like my food), lightly battered, I would say tempura battered. We had the sauce on the side, good thing because I was honestly not a huge fan of it. This place will always be a must for me when I return to Carmel. Friendly staff, a lot of seating indoor/outdoor, it's located in the heart of the shopping plaza downstairs, very clean. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of their menu.

Yelp
I will literally be craving the miso cacio e pepe from now on! The noodles & creamy sauce were delicious. The bulgogi spicy chicken was also good, and it came with sides of rice, kimchi, & cucumber kimchi. The staff was really friendly and attentive as well! We sat outside which was cute with the heaters & fire pit. They also have indoor seating which looked cute too!

Yelp
THEY DONT ALLOW STROLLERS - even outside - in the outside area. My baby was asleep and wasn't feeling well. I've never heard a restaurant turning people away cus they have a baby in the stroller. I even asked if I could park it outside of the outside area but still sitting next to us, they said no. So unless you can pack your stroller up, this restaurant ain't it. --So you're basically saying all the people who left the same review, we ALL DONT UNDERSTAND LOL. Right outside, ALL THE OTHER RESTAURANTS LET STROLLERS IN. And what a great way to tell your customers they're stupid cus we don't understand but NO ONE explained that and every other restaurant has a different policy than this wack restaurant . If you have special needs kids that aren't in wheelchairs and are in strollers, y'all not welcome either I suppose.. What a joke!

Yelp
Actually visited Jeju Kitchen twice in the same day the weekend we visited Carmel-by-the-Sea. There was just so much we wanted to try but couldn't fit it all in one meal so we decided to come back for dinner. We love the fusion and the flavor profiles were very unique not the kinds you'd get from a regular Korean restaurant. The service was fine and we appreciate the option to indoor or outdoor dine. Will be back!

Yelp
This meal was DELICIOUS! I've been following Jeju Kitchen on social media for some time and was super excited to finally visit! We were greeted by friendly staff with a nice big table. It was my birthday and my friend had sent us glasses of champagne by phone and they had it ready upon our arrival! I looked at this menu a few times before visiting and was stumped on what to order, it all sounded amazing. Here's where we went: Steamed Pork Dumpling & Juicy Dumpling - SO tasty, very hot, perfect start to the meal. Korean Pancake - delicious, light, not overcooked, I loved it. Korean Glass Noodles - I love japchae and this dish truly hit the spot. Korean Short Ribs - tender, perfectly seasoned, would 100% order again! Definitely ate these way past being full. Kimchi - fresh and delicious! Note - the portions are very, very generous! Next time would love to try the Kimchi Mac, Miso Cacio e Pepe, Chili Crunch Primavera, most of the burgers, Bibimbap! And the soups! They even sent us a complimentary dessert for my birthday - loved this restaurant!

Yelp
My friends and I came from san jose and lowkey this food was all mid. The chili wontons did not have the numbing spice or much flavors to it. We thought that it was similar to ones we can get in the stores. The cacio pepe was decent. The miso flavor was there but since we also got the kimchi mac and cheese my friends like that flavor more because it was stronger. I still like both. The fried chicken batter was unique but got old quickly and our party of five had the hardest time finishing that one. The galbi was also just decent, there was a hint of sweetness but not much else to it.

Yelp
We ate here on a Wednesday evening. We sat outside in the patio and the weather was fantastic. We got the chili oil wontons to start - they were just ok. Not bad, not fantastic. I got the salmon rice bowl and it was soooooo good. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and I loved all the veggies it came with. My husband got the bibimbop, and he enjoyed it. And then the restaurant gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary - very kind and yummy way to finish the meal!

Yelp
Okay I really wanted to love this place but everything lacked a lot of flavor. The service was super nice and welcoming and the restaurant itself is a fun vibe and tucked away in a cute plaza. We ordered the miso cacio e pepe and the noodles were cooked well, the saucy was creamy, however it didn't have much flavor and the sesame oil was a bit overpowering. We also got the beef stone pot and this entire thing was just really bland except for the kimchi. I would come back to try other dishes but definitely skip the beef stone pot!

Yelp
traveling from Los Angeles to Monterey for a conference. We came here for lunch on a Wednesday around 12pm. the place was empty so we got to pick our own seats. initially we chose patio, but it was a little windy/chilly so we went inside. I ordered bibimbap, the hot stone pot on a cold day. hubby ordered beef short ribs. food tasted good, similar to where we're familiar with. but there's only couple kim chi side dishes, unlike other Korean restaurants where they serve several different kinds of side dishes. price was much more expensive, like 30% more than SoCal, where we thought was already very pricey.

Yelp
Really great lunch option if you are in the area! Items Ordered: Jajangmyeon Noodles with Pork Belly Add On: The noodles were so good, had a beautiful coating of sauce and the pork belly was cooked perfectly crispy. Korean Glass Noodles: My friend enjoyed them and she cleared her whole plate! Side of House Fries: Super crispy. I would have liked a seasoning on them though to have them stand out. Service: Wait staff was friendly and professional. Ambiance: Modern style decor with warm tones and natural light during the day. There's an outdoor patio that offers both shaded and sun options. Overall: I really enjoyed this take on Asian Fusion and California flavors!

Yelp
We had the luck to grab a spot without a reservation on Friday night. Our party of 5 stayed warm outside thanks to effective heat lamps. We tried fried kimchi dumplings, egg dumpling soup, jajangmyeon noodles with tofu and without, beef stone pot and creamy miso cacio e pepe. Portions are very generous- consider sharing if you are not very hungry or can't save your leftovers. We had to leave a lot on the table which is always a little sad. Everyone enjoyed what they ate. Standouts were the kimchi dumplings and miso cacio e pepe. The fusions of Korean and American and Italian dishes were interesting to explore. Sadly we had no room for sweets but they looked tempting as they went by. This is a great place to try if you're in the mood for unique fusion. There is a lovely courtyard to wait in if the place is full.

Yelp
Was pretty intrigued by Korean fusion on our way through Carmel so we knew we had to snag a Jeju table at some point. The first day we were really unsuccessful aka insane wait even at an offset time, but then second day we were able to grab an outside table easily! This spot has me wishing I could give half stars because I think 3.5 is the valid rating. We had a heavy day of eating ahead so didn't try quite as much as we usually would, but the highlight for me was the kimchi pancake which was deeeelicious. Great flavor, good crisp, good dipping sauce. I have a hard time finding vegetarian black bean noodles aka jajangmyeon at spots so I hopped on the bandwagon when I saw it here. Our friends got the japchae (Korean glass noodles) and the dolsot bibimbap. We all grabbed some guava spirtzes as well. The portions are on the bigger side, but I will have to deduct points for the taste itself because the black bean noodles were lacking the depth and umami that I typically associate with them. There were a couple of so called "perfect bites" that did have the full on flavor, but the rest of it seemed bland. Our friends enjoyed their food and we definitely had leftovers for later. All in all, this is an interesting spot to check out once, though I would argue that camera eats won over delicious eats. Plan for a wait fi you go on busy weekends (and randomest note, there is 1 bathroom in here and the line is insane most of the time. Head to the 3rd floor to find more restrooms instead).

Yelp
I read in another review that the kimchi mac 'n' cheese would be a meal I'm left thinking about for months... I'm here to second that. The flavor was so unique, soooo umami, comforting, and warm. The ULTIMATE comfort food in my opinion, and I'm not even big on mac and cheese as it is. As I reflect on the past year, this dish was easily this best thing I ate all year (and maybe in my life???). My fiancé and I were here in October visiting from Texas and I'm already planning our next trip back to California for this meal! He ordered the short ribs, which were also amazing! Both dishes were magical in their own way, I don't believe you can go wrong with either. Not to mention the service was genuinely warm as well. Our waitress made excellent recommendations, especially on drinks! My fiancé said the Citrosa was one of the best IPAs he's ever had. I had the grapefruit sake spritz which was very good. Loved the location as well. We sat outside and were in heaven with the area. Thank you, Jeju Kitchen! And to the kimchi mac- hopefully we meet again in this lifetime

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing staff, 10/10, wait time was only 30 minutes as a walk-in on a Sunday afternoon

Yelp
was super excited to try this place off lots of tiktok recommendations but I thought the food was just ok ): it still might be a great place to try/korean restaurant in carmel if you're craving! everything was fine but every dish had something missing for me ie calamari was good but didn't like their sauce, miso carbonara tasted good and I liked the noodle texture but the sauce tasted more garlic creamy than miso carbonara, and my friend's smashburger was not smashburger-like at all (thick patty LOL) but he said it tasted good

Yelp
Saw some photos of the Korean fried chicken on their IG and made the trip to Carmel. It was busy but we were able to get a table outside despite the chilly night. There were plenty of heaters and a fire pit to keep us warm. We had soup dumplings and the Korean fried chicken. The service was prompt despite a busy night. This place definitely lives up to the hype. NOTE the place says Carmel Burger Bar on the sign. You're in the right place! So many people unfortunately walked by lost. We even stopped a couple leaving and informed them they were in the right place!!!

Yelp
We decided to stop in the area for a meal before heading to the beach since it was convenient. After reviewing our options and the menus, I thought Jeju Kitchen would be a solid pick. Two adults and two kiddos, we were offered a small booth or table, I mistakenly thought any booth but she said no, the others are for bigger parties. I chose the smaller booth anyway to be a bit more comfortable with the kids. We decided on the kids chicken tenders & fries, Korean fried chicken and chicken BLT sandwich. The kids' came out in a cute bento style stainless steel tray with a few slices of oranges which was a nice touch. However, the chicken tenders were soooo dry (the meat), my kids hardly ate them. The breading resembled katsu so think panko crusted. My husband enjoyed his sandwich. My Korean fried chicken was a more generous serving than I expected, about 8 pieces served with some radish (like bon chon). I was sad to see the soy garlic drizzle was like hardly anything. The chicken outside was super crunchy and light which was great but the meat inside was SO dry and bland, it tasted like it wasn't brined or seasoned, we had to ask for a side of the sauce so I could dip it. It was a pretty disappointing meal for me and my kids but at least my husband liked his sandwich. Also, they seated a party of 3 adults in one of the booths we were told we couldn't sit in so that irked me. Wish things were different bc this is such a cute area to stop by!

Yelp
Went here with our pup for lunch since they have a really lovely outdoor area with heaters and a firepit. They even have umbrellas to keep you in the shade. Service was excellent. We ordered the salmon burger with a side salad, the chili oil wontons and the caeser salad. The burger was excellent and plentiful. The salad was large, well dressed but rather under seasoned. The chili oil wontons were good. Prices are high but this is carmel so what can i expect. we actually over ordered. We could have shared two items instead of ordering the three. Bathroom was clean but always had a line..

Yelp
Such a good Korean spot! About a half-hour wait but worth it for that cheesy, comforting miso cacio e pepe, their huge and healthy farmer's salad, and massive platter of kalbi beef. In a town with very few good restaurants, this is actually a good one.

Yelp
We tried the jajangmyeon, beef stone pot, and the dumpling egg soup. I really enjoyed the noodle texture of the jajangmyeon, though the black bean sauce could have been more flavorful. The hot stone bibimbap came with a yummy sauce and crispy rice on the bottom. Lastly, the dumpling egg soup was comforting and similar to bone broth. The food is fusion and the interior is nice, which explains the price point, but I still think it was overpriced. Service was amazing, our waiter gave us great recommendations and was very attentive. It's also located in a cute shopping center with many small business shops next door. Overall, the food was tasty though I'm not sure I would come back given the price.
