Sugar, spice, and everything nice - these are the ingredients chosen to make the perfect little ice cream shop on the edge of the Chagrin River. Chagrin Falls is a charming little village straight out of a movie set, and Jeni's is the epitome of exactly the type of boutique dessert shop you'd find in it, with a cute yet classy interior of marble, wood, and seasonal flower cuttings. What it lacks in the quirkiness of Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop, it makes up for in new school details like the cucumber water dispenser, little fairy lights across the ceiling, and paper napkins boasting about why Jeni's ice cream is different than any other ice cream you've tasted.
We went through quite a few little silver spoons trying flavors and felt sorry for whomever was responsible for washing them later. Finally we got the Brambleberry Crisp, Salted Peanut Butter, Brown Butter Almond Brittle, and Praline in a Taster's Flight (3 flavors + $1 for a 4th), which came in a little pulp fiber dish with a crispy waffle piece on top. While I will say these four flavors were absolutely delectable and smooth, perhaps even a par above Mitchell's, it is unfortunately not life-changing ice cream as the napkins may lead you to believe. I had a hard time picking a favorite flavor.
On the other hand, some of the flavors we tried - a Mexican hot chocolate type flavor and Lavender Honey flavor - didn't manage to land close to their namesake. My conclusion is that the flavors Jeni's does well, it lands a home run. Others are unfortunately foul balls.
The longer you let the ambience at Jeni's sink in though, the harder it is to leave. Maybe the winter chill outside had something to do with that as well... But with the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, I would be more than happy for Jeni to raid my wallet again.
